Excerpt:

CHAPTER ONE

“Sorry, but sucking off a narcissistic asshole who’s so damn drunk he can’t recall the words to his own song is not my idea of a good time.”
His bark of laughter echoed in the empty hall. “You really are a ray of sunshine, aren’t you?”
God, what a terrible idea this had been. Hoping to put some distance between them, Emma Travers quickened her pace, only to stumble over the uncustomary height of the heels her best friend Alison had convinced her to wear. Her ankle screamed in protest, forcing her to skid to a halt. Balancing precariously so she didn’t face plant on the concrete, she struggled against the zippers, finally succeeding in pulling the rhinestone studded stilettos from her swollen feet. She barely resisted the urge to turn around and throw them at the head of the man who’d pissed her off faster than a Bugatti Veyron went from zero to sixty, and instead tossed them aside and continued her escape in bare feet.
“Come back and see me sometime, Emma,” Joe Campbell, lead singer of the British alternative metal band Blind Man's Alibi, called out to her.
Fat chance!
“I could use a bit of sunshine in my life.” The murmur hit her ears like a shout, and stopped her in her tracks.
Well, shit.
Emma remained rooted in place, unable to decide if he was for real or filling her with pretty words in order to get her to stay and sleep with him. He sounded sincere enough, but the only way to know for certain was to face him. Something she really didn’t want to do.
Not that he was painful to look at. Oh no, Joe Campbell was extremely pleasing to the eye, a fact he knew too well. One, she was certain, he used to his advantage whenever an occasion presented itself. Like tonight, when she’d gone against character and accepted his invitation backstage after the show.
One glimpse of the man who stood alone in the room she’d been unceremoniously delivered to and Emma went hot all over. Unable to speak, she’d allowed her gaze to take a long, slow journey over his body. His torso was bare, giving her an unobstructed view of hardened pecs, a flat washboard stomach and muscles that rippled and shifted, making the Chinese dragon wrapped around his left upper arm and onto his chest seem alive as he slipped his left hand into the front pocket of his jeans. Dear God, those jeans! The way they hung on his lean hips, the top button undone like he’d just pulled them on. They rode so low there was no mistaking that underneath them he was commando. Her gaze had locked on the obvious bulge behind his fly and, for a moment, she’d actually considered dropping to her knees before him and taking a taste.
Then he’d opened his mouth. What was that saying? Elvis has left the building. She was outta there.
With a deep breath for courage, Emma turned around and was greeted by the same image of the man as before. Except that the whiskey bottle he’d held in his right hand and lifted to those delectable lips too many times to count, was nowhere to be seen. Oh great, and the hulking brute who’d brought her backstage stood leaning against the wall to Joe’s right.
Gary, she was pretty certain he’d introduced himself as Gary, held his arms crossed before him, head tipped toward the floor in a pseudo relaxed pose designed to give the impression he hadn’t just heard every damn word they’d said. He blew the image to shit when he lifted his head and winked at her. Winked! Was everyone in the music industry completely bonkers?
Emma did her best to ignore the brute and focused on the singer. “You’re a real piece of work, you know that?”
“What did you expect?”
Good question.
“I guess I hoped the stage show was just that, a show, and that there was a decent guy behind all of that. Maybe I wanted to believe the ‘I’m too sexy for my own good’ attitude was just publicity.”
“Sorry to disappoint.” His tone didn’t sound regretful at all. He strode toward her, moved with such a fluid grace Emma’s heart thumped in response. His long legs closed the distance in half the time it had taken her to get this far. She made herself stand her ground as he stepped in close, closer than she’d yet allowed him to get. Close enough she caught the subtle hint of soap on his skin and whiskey on his breath.  “You’re right about one thing, I’m an asshole. But it wasn’t the alcohol that caused me to lose my words tonight, Emma Travers. It was you.”
His chin-length brown hair was nearly dry now and hung over his eyes as if windblown, though nary a wisp of air blew from the vents above. Eyes she was surprised to learn were two different colors—one brown, the other a mix of brown and green. “You excel at telling a girl what she wants to hear, I’ll give you that.”
His gaze didn’t flinch. “How can you doubt the truth? You were there, front row center. Close enough to touch me.” The soft timbre of his voice warmed her even more than the heat radiating off his skin. He fell silent, unmoving, as if he were waiting for something. What, she wasn’t certain. Unable to meet his gaze, she lowered hers and found herself transfixed by the movement of his Adam’s apple as he spoke. “All you had to do was reach out.”
An image of hands pawing and clutching at him whenever he’d trekked too close to the edge of the stage flashed through her mind. She swallowed hard, her mouth going dry, and shook her head. “Is that what you wanted me to do? Grope you like the other women in the audience? Do you actually enjoy that?”
“Not particularly.”
“Yet you expect me to believe that, for some unknown reason, you wanted me to touch you?”
“You stood out from the crowd. Not singing, not screaming, just standing in the front row. It was impossible not to notice you. I wondered why you were at the show, You didn’t seem to be having a good time. Then you smiled at me…my mind blanked.”
What the hell was she supposed to say to that? Thanks for noticing me?
“I was feeding you lines and you just stood there, staring.” Much the same way as she was doing now. Christ, he was beautiful. Her fingers itched with the need to trace his lips, his mustache, the little hairless spots on the outside of his bottom lip and that sexy as hell strip of facial hair that went from the center of his full lower lip down, to blend into his short trimmed beard.
Her throat went dry as dust. “Why me? I’m not actually supposed to believe you saw me and lost your place, am I?”
“That’s what happened.” His words were matter-of-fact, meant to be believed. “You know it’s true, you were there.”
Emma shook her head.
“Contrary to what you think, I was not too drunk to remember the lyrics. You see, I’m an accomplished drinker. I’ve been at it a long time. Long enough to know that forgetting the words to one of my songs is about as never-going-to-happen as forgetting how to please a woman.”
“Why?”
“Why what, Sunshine?”
“Why are you a practiced drunk? Is that all you do, spend your free time partying?”
“Interesting. You don’t question my forgetting how to please a woman?”

“Hah! You could probably pull that off if you were comatose.”

Review:

Wrecked is a rockstar romance that will leave you wrecked and crying your eyes out but I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I am not one of those whose reads the last page first (my husband does that and I hate it) but you go into this book and even knowing how it ends you have to turn the next page and keep on going. If Emma can keep on going and enjoying the time she has you must keep her company on her journey. This book is superbly written with a fabulous mix of angst, humor and hot sex that will enthrall you and stay with you long after you have finished the book. I can’t wait for the next installment to see how Joe and the guys are holding up.

Naughty Wishes Part I: Body (Naughty Wishes #1) by Joey W. Hill

Blurb:
In Naughty Wishes Part I, the fearlessly sensual author of Naughty Bits—and “one hell of a writer”*—now draws readers into the desires of one woman, and the two men who make her every fantasy come true.

Samantha and her roommates Geoff and Chris have always shared an innocent and casual intimacy, but for Sam it has cloaked a deeper desire that remains tantalizingly out of reach. The two men have been best friends since childhood, and that friendship keeps them frustratingly hands-off toward her and each other. She wants to respect their code of honor, but Sam craves something more primitive, and she knows they feel the same way. Maybe there’s a way to bring it out in both of them—one man at a time.

When Chris goes out of town for the week with his landscaping company, it’s time for her to initiate her adventurous goal. Her plan is to go toe-to-toe with Geoff, the alpha of their trio, and tease to life that Dominant side of him she’s waited so long for him to express. And Geoff is more than willing to claim her. But things don’t go exactly as planned. They’re even better.

Includes a teaser for Naughty Wishes II: Heart

My review:
I am not a fan of serials but I love Joey W. Hill’s work. I was pleasantly surprised that although this story left me wanting more it didn’t upset me that it broke off where it did. Yes there is a cliff-hanger ending as all good serials are wont to do but there is enough story in this book to satisfy me until I can get my grubby paws on the next installment. Naughty Wishes Part I: Body is a wonderfully crafted tale where the author takes you into the heart and mind of a new relationship between friends. I am waiting on tenterhooks for the next installment.

Scent of Madness (Black Hills Wolves #40) by Heather Long

Blurb:
While their Alpha fights to survive, an elusive killer hunts among their pack, slaying humans and the wolves who mated them. The Enforcer’s rigid rule and terse attitude have everyone uneasy. On the hunt for madness, he may lose everything…

Ryker continues to hunt for the elusive murderer. The others have eliminated several suspects, but tensions in the Black Hills have never been higher. For all of his experience in hunting and dealing with the wolves, Ryker has never found himself torn between two loves before—to be the killer he is, means he has to turn off the softer side Saja awoke in him.

Saja’s life with the wolves is nothing she would ever have imagined. Being the center of Ryker’s attention is both a blessing and a curse, but her mate’s gentle, indulgent nature seems to be a thing of the past. While she understands his remoteness comes from a place where caring and fear collide, she doesn’t want to lose Ryker to the madness creeping through the pack.

Clashes with Colt and several other dominants heighten the danger, and Ryker refuses to allow her out of his sight unless she is with Gee. When the killer sets his sights on her, will the Enforcer drive his mate away rather than lose her?

My review:
Scent of Madness is the amazing finale to the four book series with in a series.  Scent of Murder by Cara Carnes, Scent of the by Cam Cassidy, Scent of His Woman by Rebecca Royce and Scent of Madness by Heather Long. They can technically be read standalone but are really each a part of a whole story arc.
In Scent of Madness we find out who is killing the human mates and why. We also get to take a peek into Ryker and Saja’s life. Ryker has been doing the best he can under trying circumstances as he has always done. And despite being a hardass I can’t say I found a wolf I admire more. This is a heart wrenching tale that will leave you with hope and a smile.

Turning Payne (Therian Agents, #2) by Chantel Seabrook

Blurb:
Agent Turner Payne, lion shifter, has dedicated his career to bringing down the man responsible for the deaths of hundreds of metamorphs. His world is turned upside-down when he crosses paths with his mortal enemy’s daughter, Riley, and she becomes the victim of her own father's latest experiment. Riley has to decide whom she can trust—if anyone, and Turner must go against Therian law to protect her. But at what cost?

My review:
Turning Payne is a terrific follow up to the first book in the series, Chasing Payne. This book can be read standalone but you will get so much more out of it if you read Chasing Payne first. Lion shifter Turner Payne is driven and obsessed and he is on the very edge of losing everything he has worked for because of it. This book is filled with twists and surprises not the least of which is finding out that the fates have decreed that his mate is the daughter of his mortal enemy. Will she accept him if she finds out he was responsible for her fathers’ death? Oh the fun you will have reading this. I am so looking forward to the next installment because although Turner uncovered a lot of answers he also gave us bunches of new questions. Turning Payne is a PNR romantic suspense that will keep you enthralled to the very last page.

Scent of His Woman (Black Hills Wolves #39) by Rebecca Royce

Blurb:
Magnolia Holden fled the Black Hills Wolves with her family during the reign of Magnum, terrified for her life and for that of her older sister Betty, who she had to leave behind. She has never wanted to go back to Los Lobos and face her terror of the enforcer, Ryker. Instead she lives happily in Sioux Falls helping her parents run their dress shop and dreaming of Clayton Davies, the human mystery writer who she loves but believes she can never have.

But there is murder happening in the Black Hills and when Betty’s mate, the Alpha Drew, lies at death’s door, Mags will have to return and face her worst nightmares over and over again.

Only this time she won’t be alone. Clayton loves Mags, and he is a man who knows how to look into the darkness and come out the other side. Together, they will help Ryker seek a killer who wants humans dead. If they can both live through the night...

My review:
Scent of His Woman is a fantastic addition to this series! Most of the human mates to this point have been women. In this book we are treated to all kinds of surprises not the least of which is Clayton Davies, human, former cop and now a mystery writer. Clayton looks at life from a different angle and might just be able to help the pack find out who is killing their humans.
I absolutely loved this addition to the 4 book sub series, Scent, and can hardly wait for the last one. The Scent books, of which there are four are connected by a murderer and in my opinion need to be read in order, Scent of Murder (Black Hills Wolves, #37) by Cara Carnes, this book Scent of the Hunt (Black Hills Wolves #38) by Cam Cassidy, Scent of His Woman (Black Hills Wolves #39) by Rebecca Royce and Scent of Madness (Black Hills Wolves #40) by Heather Long. They can technically be read standalone but are really each a part of a whole story arc.

The Alpha's Saving Grace (Lonestar Wolf Pack Book 1) by Melissa Schroeder

Blurb:
Formerly part of the Romancing the Wolf bundle. This new edition will include expanded scenes never seen before.

As Alpha of the Lonestar Wolf Pack and Mayor of their small Texas town, Jacob Sanderson has more than enough on his plate to handle. When women from his pack start getting killed, he knows his best resource for solving the murders is Sheriff Alexandra Littlefoot. Now, if he can keep his hands off her, everything will be fine.

A bad shooting and the loss of a partner caused Alex to leave San Antonio. She sees being sheriff of the small town as penance for her sins. Working with Jake isn't exactly what she would call ideal, but he insists on helping with the investigation. Close working conditions make it impossible to ignore their attraction, and one kiss leads to more than either of them expected.

After one night together, he knows this is no casual encounter, and walking away is impossible. He knows she's his mate, and while she isn't a wolf, he knows she has some connection to the pack.

As secrets rise to the surface, the killer’s violence escalates and threatens to destroy not only their fragile new love, but the entire Lonestar Pack.

My review:
I have come to the opinion that there isn’t a genre that Melissa Schroeder can’t write. This is a fun and sexy tale of murder, mayhem and romance told with humor and grace. I got a total kick out of Jacob and Alex. I love that Alex is a strong enough woman to deal with a pushy Alpha yet woman enough to let him into her heart. I so hope that the author continues this series with Caleb & Fi or maybe Dillon’s story.

But someone desperate enough to kill doesn’t want Lyn working with Atlas. Now only teamwork, trust, and courage can save two troubled hearts and the dog who loves them both.

My review:
Hunky men, dogs and a good mystery. This book rocked! Hope’s Crossing kennel provides a second chance for abused working dogs and the former military guys that run it. Atlas is a special case. He is a hero dog who is suffering because his handler was killed by “friendly fire” as requested Atlas is sent to Hope’s Crossing with secrets on his shoulder, David is determined to find out what happened to Atlas and his handler. The last thing he needs is a pretty subcontractor distracting him. But Atlas responds well to her and well so does David but the closer they get to the truth the more danger they are in. I really enjoyed this fast paced romantic suspense. The characters are multi-dimensional and hard not to like. The author makes you feel for them and for Atlas. The story is loaded with surprises and keeps you enthralled.

My review:
Fatal Truth is the first in an exciting new series. Action, adventure and romance all in equal measure Fatal Truth mixes just enough reality into the story to make it believable. The characters are strong and likeable. The bad guys make you want to scream and shout. Fatal Truth is a well written, fast paced romantic suspense that will keep you up past your bedtime. I can’t wait for the next adventure.

This book had all the right ingredients angst, hot sex and cute guys. This is a good story that kept me wanting  to see how things turn out. Warning there are some real tear jerker moments, some super sexy moments and then there are moments when you will want to throw the book at the wall but all in all a good read.

Growl (Feral Passions #1) by Eve Langlais, Kate Douglas & A.C. Arthur

Blurb:
In Legal Wolf's Mate by Eve Langlais, taking on a pro bono murder case isn't a problem for a lawyer who enjoys a challenge. Discovering that his new client is his mate? A tad more complicated. Gavin has no intention of settling down, especially not with a woman accused of murder, but once he sets eyes on Megan, his fate is sealed.

In Feral Passions by
Kate Douglas, what better place for an adventurous woman to explore her wild side than a luxurious resort in Northern California's beautiful Trinity Alps? Especially when that resort is run by sexy werewolves looking for mates.

In The Alpha's Woman by
A.C. Arthur, Kira Radney has no desire to be a subservient mate. When a member of her father's pack attempts to make her his mate by force, Kira has no choice but to flee. The last thing she wants is to submit to any male and their pack. But when her escape attempt leads her straight into the arms of an alpha wolf-a sexy, dangerous, protective alpha - Kira must fight against her need to be free and her secret desire to be controlled.

Contains mature themes.

My review:
Three sexy full length werewolf romances in one fantastic book each hotter than the last.
Legal Wolf's Mate by Eve Langlais is sweet, sexy and full of surprises.
Feral Passions by Kate Douglas shows that big girls are worthy of not one but two hot werewolves . I loved this story because the heroine is a bbw and a braniac and Brad and Cain treat her like a queen. Warning this is a sweet and smoking hot read where boundaries are willingly crossed for everyones enjoyment.
The Alpha's Woman by A.C. Arthur was a surprise.  A.C. Arthur is a “new to me” author and I was intrigued by the mythos of her world. The characters are strong and believable. The story was filled with delightful twists and turns. I will be checking out her backlist.

Scent of the Hunt (Black Hills Wolves #38) by Cam Cassidy

Blurb:
Brogan James came to Los Lobos for a quick, simple meeting with Ryker, but things get complicated when the town is rocked by their Alpha being shot and the human mate of one of their pack members murdered. One of three wolves cleared of the crime, with Ryker at the time of the murder, Brogan sets out using his skills as a tracker to catch the killer.

Natalie Gabbin accepted her destiny when her one true mate chose to walk away years ago. Now that he’s back in town, will she have the strength to turn away from him or give in to the desires of one more night in his arms?

With Brogan close by, a murderer on the loose, and tensions in the pack rising, will Brogan forget the past and claim the other half of his soul?

My review:
Once upon a time a couple of fantastic authors created the world of the Black Hills Wolves and invited their friends to come and play in it. What followed was thirty some odd terrific loosely connected standalone werewolf stories. Then there came the Winter Solstice books where the authors had the stories all include certain events at the Solstice celebration. Now they have taken it a step further. In the previous book Scent of Murder we discovered that there was a murderer targeting Los Lobos. In this book we find that the murderer is targeting the human members of the pack and is a total psycho. Among the angst of a murder investigation Brogan a returned wolf finds he can’t resist the pull of his mate any longer now he just has to convince her to give him another chance and though I think Gabby should have made him squirm more it was fun watching them get together. I can’t wait for the next installment.

Hell on Heels (Hotel Rodeo #1) by Victoria Vane

Blurb:
Some Odds are Meant to be Played...

PLACE YOUR BET

The Hotel Rodeo in Las Vegas has seen better days, but managing partner Ty Morgan has come up with a way to return it to its former glory. His plan looks promising until the unthinkable happens. Suddenly Ty is working for the boss’s daughter. And Miss Monica Brandt, hot as she may be, doesn’t share his vision…

ROLL THE DICE

She left a fabulous career and a frustrated fiancé in New York to move to Vegas and save her father’s investment. But now Monica is locking horns with a sexy cowboy-turned-businessman. What does Ty think he can do that she can’t? All Monica knows is that she doesn’t dare trust him—or is it herself she doesn’t trust...

AND WIN

The battle lines are drawn. The stakes are high. And the attraction can’t be denied—especially the more closely Ty and Monica have to work together. Some odds are just meant to be played, and with chemistry this electric, it may be time to grab life by the horns…

My review:
City woman and country man clash in Las Vegas. Monica grew up with nannies and believes that success is the best revenge. Ty grew up in Oklahoma with a rodeo dad who died an early death. He almost followed in his father’s steps until he took over the Hotel Rodeo in Las Vegas. When these two meet it is animosity from the first.
Watching them fight, flirt and find common ground is a blast. I really like each of these deeply flawed characters. I loved the story and then I threw my kindle at the wall. I am so not a fan of cliff-hanger endings. This book leaves you with a whole lot of unanswered questions that we won’t get until the next book Two to Wrangle. Fortunately that comes out next month.

Fatal Intentions by Julie Morgan Review & Giveaway

A bit from the author:
So for about four years, give or take, I had the story of Deadly Alchemy in my head. The characters constantly chattered but never really did anything. That is until I thought, hmm... gothic fiction? Then BOOM! Explosion happened and Deadly Alchemy was on paper in a matter of 3 months time.
I thought I was finished there.

Amazon    B&N

Well, I was wrong! The characters decided they had another story to tell, but around a different set.

Book one told the story of Michel, John and Amelia. Book two tells the story of Marcus and Sarah.

Blurb:

After the destruction of Michel, fellow Alchemist, Sarah, remained behind with Amelia. Marcus, a vampire who has risen through the ranks, is plotting a hunting exposition; hunt down and destroy all other supernatural creatures in the world. Along the way, Marcus inadvertently meets Sarah and discovers through her, he has a way into her world...a way to Amelia and the pack. He plans to use Sarah to his advantage, but what he didn't count on, what he did not see coming, was Sarah capturing more than just his attention.

With the test of wills, can Marcus hold true to his plans and keep his intentions with Sarah?

Will Sarah be able to tell truth from lies and keep herself, and her friends, safe?

When intentions become fatal, death could follow around any turn.

My review:

I both loved and hated this book. I totally got a kick out of the continuation of John and Amelia’s story and was thrilled to see Sarah come out of her shell. I was upset about the schism between Sophie and Amelia. I loved Sophie in the first book Deadly Alchemy. If there is to be another book I want to know what happens to her. Fatal Intentions is filled with surprises and is a terrific read.

Between Blood and Beast: A Paranormal Shifter and Vampire Erotica by Ashlei Hawley

Blurb:
Mariah Sloan is just about to turn twenty. No birthday could be more impacting on her life. At twenty, she’s allowed to make a choice between staying human or becoming a were-panther like her father and his Pardus. The man she’s loved for years, Justin, was welcomed into the shifter fold four years ago. Ever since then, her decision has been a no-brainer.
She can’t wait to be a were-panther.
Endre is a vampire who hunts the corrupt among his own kind, such as the slave-maker, Silver. On the night of her change, Mariah is attacked by Silver and Endre is forced to change her into a vampire to save her. While Mariah undergoes her transformation and the loss of her desired future, the supernatural forces in the town must hunt Silver down.
Can Endre risk his beautiful new youngling’s immortal life for a chance to track down his ancient enemy? Will Mariah be able to accept a life in which she’s lost everything she’s ever wanted, but gained more than she could have dreamed?

My review:
Between Blood and Beast is a short, hot PNR by “new to me” author Ashlei Hawley. Mariah Sloan is a young woman on the cusp of a major life change. She gets one; just not exactly the one she had planned. Mariah was about to claim her heritage as a were-panther and the man she has always loved. Her dreams are taken away by psycho sexual sadist vampire who had planned to add her to his harem of slaves. She is saved and turned by the vampire on the hunt for the crazy one. Endre has never changed anyone and is not ready for the intense feelings it engenders. He has to work with the panthers to bring Mariah into her new world. I liked that Mariah is not the weepy angsty type. The sex is smoking and inventive. I will be checking out more by this author.
