Staking Claim (Wolf Ranch Book 3) by Lia Davis

Blurb:

On the run from his past and hoping for a fresh start, lone wolf Noah Ramos takes a job as the Kelmount Ranch manager only to discover that the Alpha’s sister, sweet and sassy Bailey, is his fated mate.

Bailey Kelmount is hesitant to get involved with a new hire whose shadowy past is as mysterious as he is handsome. But the guiding hand of fate is irresistible, and Bailey has no choice but to slowly give Noah a chance.

As Noah and Bailey’s love blossoms, the power of their mutual attraction begins to burn hot. But Noah’s past isn’t as far behind him, and it isn’t long before his ex-girlfriend arrives at the ranch, determined to win him back. Ruthless and cunning, she’ll stop at nothing to get rid of Bailey and reclaim Noah for herself, even if it means putting the entire ranch in danger.

With lives and love on the line, Noah must free himself from his ex’s deadly scheme and unite with Bailey once and for all. Can he convince his fated mate that theirs is a love worth fighting for?

My review:

Bailey gets her chance at love. With two of her brothers happily mated Bailey isn’t looking for love but when the new guy shows up for work her wolf lets her know she’s met her mate. I love how strong Bailey is. I love that Noah is the one with a crazy ex. This was a terrific read.

Spell Over Troubled Water (Grimoires of a Middle-aged Witch #4) by Renee George

Spell Over Troubled Water (Grimoires of a Middle-aged Witch #4) by Renee George

Blurb:

Being a forty-something, newly divorced, single mom is getting easier every day. Thankfully, so is being a witch, you know, when monsters and power-hungry sorcerers aren’t trying to kill me. And they aren’t the only ones who want to take me down. Too bad for all of them. I don’t die easy.

Now that my nero-craft has been triggered, I’m off to the Iron Grove, along with my hot druid boyfriend and his violently awesome sister, to learn magic from the best of the best. Of course, not every druid or tru-craft witch is happy about me gaining another element. There is even talk of a test they want me to take that sounds about as much fun as alien probing.

No, thank you.

I’ll have to rely on allies, old and new, if I want to survive the incoming tide of enemies who want me to drown in my own magic.

My review:

As Iris grows more confident in her magic it seems that there are those in power who worry about how strong she is becoming. She now has to prove she is worthy and can control those gifts. This is a fast-paced page turner that will keep you glued to your seat. Just when you thought it was safe to go in the water…

A must read. Cannot wait for the next installment.

Problem Child (Blue Ivy Prep #1) by Heather Long

Blurb:

Enrollment begins this autumn.

Born into Hollywood royalty, I’ve been making the hot sheet and generating internet buzz since before I could even walk. Doesn’t matter that my parents divorced prior to my second birthday, I can’t escape the shadows—or scandals—of my movie star mother and my rock star father.

At least, I couldn’t until Aubrey, Yvette and I formed Torched and went double platinum as we made a name for ourselves. Four years after taking the world by storm, I’m exhausted. We all are. I’m also ready to try and be a regular kid. Only problem is I’ve never been normal. I don’t actually know what that feels like. Accepted into the prestigious Blue Ivy Prep, I have a lot to prove to the students, the faculty, our fans, but most of all to myself.

Despite my tabloid reputation or maybe because of it, I don’t intend for anything to get in my way. Especially not anyone who decided I’m an empty-headed pampered partying princess before I even showed up. If they want a fight, I’ll bring them a war.

*Please note this is a reverse harem and the author suggests you always read the forward in her books. Contains some bullying elements, mature situations, and is recommended for 17+. This is the first in a series and the story will continue through future books.

My review:
OMG!
KC just wanted to experience normal. She takes a sabbatical from her rocker life and enrolls in Blue Ivy Prep. But her life doesn’t lend itself to normal. I just wanted to hug her and wrap her heart in bubble wrap. And the ending left me gasping. Bring on the next book asap!

Protecting His Claim (Wolf Ranch Book 2) by Lia Davis

Blurb:

When wolf shifter Carson Kelmount first lays eyes on Grace Watson, he knows she is his fated mate. There is an instant connection between them that is undeniable and hard to fight. He wants nothing more than to keep Grace safe. But she is guarded and stubbornly refuses his help.

Though Grace tries to fight the mating urge, she can’t help but be drawn to Carson. He seems to be everything she’s ever wanted in a mate. A cowboy with a heart of gold with an alpha wolf inside him.

However, Grace has a secret. She can’t stay in one place for more than a few weeks before she has to leave again. It’s become a way of life for her. Always looking over her shoulder, never knowing who to trust. But Carson makes her question everything she thought she knew about survival.

Time is running out. And she needs to find a way to come up with the money to pay her mom’s debt--fast.

Can Carson convince Grace to let him in? And will they be able to overcome the challenges that stand in their way?

My review:

Wolf shifter cowboy and a gal in trouble. Carson may not be the Alpha but he definitely has alpha tendencies. Especially when he finds his mate nearly starving and working at a bar. Grace is down but not out. She is strong but even the strongest need help every now and again. Carson is determined to make Grace his and will take on the world to make it happen. Sweet and sassy this book will leave you happy.

Reconcilable Claim (Wolf Ranch Book 1) by Lia Davis

Blurb:

Sawyer Kelmount’s destiny is at the head of the pack, but becoming Alpha was supposed to happen much later in his life. Grieving the loss of his father forces him to slowly accept his new responsibilities, but as he steps up to lead the others on Wolf Ranch, he’s haunted by his loneliness and the mistakes of his past. Surely this would all be easier to accept if his mate were still here.

Erika Morrison is happy with her life in L.A., but when she learns that Sawyer’s father has passed away, she dutifully makes the trip home to Wolf Ranch to attend the funeral. Expecting Sawyer to be as distant and aloof as always, Erika is surprised that the new pack Alpha wants her help with the ranch’s finances. And being near him again sparks the embers of an old flame that never really burned out.

As Erika sorts through the books for Sawyer to figure out what’s really going on, one phone call forces her to make a difficult decision: return to L.A. or stay on Wolf Ranch and work things out with Sawyer once and for all.

My review:

Wolf shifting cowboys. Sawyer is about to become Alpha of his pack due to the sudden tragic death of his father. When Erika comes home Sawyers wolf goes nuts. He let her get away when they were younger but they need her more than ever now. This is his shot and he is going to take it. This is a fast paced mystery with a sweet couple finding each other. Really enjoyable.

Imperfect Gifts (Pleasure Times Four Holiday Series #4) by Candace Blevins

Blurb:

Pleasure times four…

Genie is a traveling nurse doing a stint in Birmingham. She’s a shifter, but her animal is a tiny owl. She’s much safer in human form than in animal form, but she has the protection of the dominant motorcycle club in the city, and they help provide a safe place for her to shift and fly.

Dev is an extinct snake shifter, his head half the size of a small sports car when he shifts into his largest size. He helps Brooke, Alabama’s diminutive Master Vampire, run her empire, and whether he does so with kindness or cruelty is entirely up to the subjects he’s responsible for.

Elijah and Ezra are cougar shifters, born in cougar form. Their very existence breaks all the rules, so they were raised by the Concilio, but Brooke has agreed to take them on and try to humanize them, to add to her little island of misfits.

What happens when these four shifters collide into unexpected circumstances?

Chaos.

My review:

I had a little trouble getting into this one but stuck with it as I trust this author and it was worth it in the end. The sadism is heavy handed in this installment, but it is balanced by a strong female lead and the good they are trying to do for the twins.

The Serpent in Heaven (Gunnie Rose #4) by Charlaine Harris

Blurb:

#1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Charlaine Harris returns to her alternate history of the United States where magic is an acknowledged but despised power in this fourth installment of the Gunnie Rose series.

Felicia, Lizbeth Rose’s half-sister and a student at the Grigori Rasputin school in San Diego—capital of the Holy Russian Empire—is caught between her own secrets and powerful family struggles. As a granddaughter of Rasputin, she provides an essential service to the hemophiliac Tsar Alexei, providing him the blood transfusions that keep him alive. Felicia is treated like a nonentity at the bedside of the tsar, and at the school she's seen as a charity case with no magical ability. But when Felicia is snatched outside the school, the facts of her heritage begin to surface. Felicia turns out to be far more than the Russian-Mexican Lizbeth rescued. As Felicia’s history unravels and her true abilities become known, she becomes under attack from all directions. Only her courage will keep her alive.

My review:

FANTASTIC!!! This may take place in the world of Gunnie Rose but can be read standalone. In this book we get to know Felicia, Gunnie Rose’s half-sister. She may be small but she is as deadly as her sister (in a totally different way). This book has her growing into herself and uncovering secrets from different corners of her life. This book sucked me in and swallowed my existence from the first page till the very last. Just amazing.

No Rescue Required by Maggie Kelley

Blurb:

Sports agent Ryan Callahan’s trip is a complete disaster. Not only did he fail to sign a promising young ballplayer, but now he’s stranded in a Kentucky town no bigger than a bourbon ball. His plane’s been canceled, there’s not a cab to be found, and getting back to New York City is gonna take a miracle. Like a quirky, strawberry-blonde florist with a big van and a craving for late-night, deep-fried hotdogs…

With her best friend’s wedding and her business on the line, Sabrina Hayes needs to be in New York like yesterday. But with her flight canceled and her bank account almost as empty as her gas tank, an extra passenger might just be the long-overdue lucky charm Sabrina needs…especially now that she knows he’s definitely not a serial killer disguised as a scrumptious Thor look-alike.

Somewhere between a roadside stand that serves food as fast as it serves weddings, a motel room haunted by a lovesick ghost, and a car race known as the Snowball 500, Sabrina and Ryan are about to discover that anything that can go wrong will go hilariously wrong. But even they are not prepared for what’s in store on the road ahead…

My review:

No Rescue Required by Maggie Kelley is a fun romantic comedy that will have you giggling and flipping pages. It is filled with a series of comedic errors and Murphy’s Law is in full swing. This is a delightful escape.

Taking on a criminal case for a cafeteria worker is not in his job description. Dirk’s ready to object until he realizes just how much he wants to protect the special Little who has turned to him for help.

My review:

This story tells the tale of culinary artist Cynthia Grant as a young woman in trouble. She needs the help of a good lawyer. Upon meeting her Dirk O’Roarke decides he is the man for the job. These two are made for each other if he can just keep her out of prison. This story features the ABC Towers community. I will be sad to see the end of the ABC Towers but cannot complain about the way it ended.

A Newly-Webs Midlife (Witching After Forty #9) by Lia Davis & L.A. Boruff

Blurb:

Mr. and Mrs. Walker are off on their honeymoon! You’d think they’d get a break from solving supernatural mysteries while vacationing in the Scottish Highlands, but not Drew and Ava. They’re thrown into a mystery when one of the guests at their resort is found dead. Not helping the locals isn’t an option. How could they live with themselves if they ignored all the problems and let someone else die?

My review:

Poor Drew and Ava can’t catch a break even on their honeymoon. Of course if they wanted a break from ghosts maybe going to a haunted castle in the Scottish Highlands was a bad idea. But since they were there maybe they could solve a ghostly mystery.

This is a fun romp that will have you gigglesnorting.

Saving the Bellydancer (Green Brotherhood: SEAL Team XII) by Debra Parmley

Blurb:

Navy SEAL Antonius (Tony) “Cutter” Cuttino is an Italian American male who has a thing for dancers. He loves their grace and athleticism. He’s been dating strippers, but his grandmother keeps asking when he will marry and give her grandbabies. When he attends a belly dance show and sees Zarifah he is smitten.

“Zarifah” is an American belly dancer, who as child gymnast Edith Smith, was training for the Olympics, before her coaches dashed water on her dream. Her dance style is a unique blend of graceful dance and athleticism. Moments after her fiancé puts an engagement ring on her finger, he changes, demanding she stop dancing in public. She breaks the engagement, but he refuses to accept the ring or the breakup. When he hits her, the police arrest him. She never wants to see him again.

She signs up for the first Shimmy Mob event, a belly dance event held on international belly dance day all around the world, which raises awareness and money for local domestic abuse shelters. Like many women, she never thought she would be a victim of domestic violence. Now she wants to help other women and she takes part, with her troupe, in the Shimmy Mob event.

Cutter and Zarifah start dating. She might be the woman of his dreams, the one he will take home to meet his grandmother.

Her ex fiancé decides if he cannot have her, no one will. The troupe has just finished their Shimmy Mob performance when the live shooter fires. He has no idea a Navy SEAL is there to protect Zarifa,

My review:

Cutter is a SEAL who is watching his friends fall in love. He is tired of the strippers he has been dating but he has no idea how to find a good girl. Then he meets Zarifah and is smitten. Zarifah is an American belly dancer just out of an abusive relationship. She isn’t ready for a new man in her life. She hasn’t met a SEAL’s determination before. Cutter has surprises up his sleeve. He woos her and shows her that not all men are abusive. This will leave you with a smile.

Pete Wilmoth is as sharp as he is powerful, and his instincts are rarely wrong. When the attractive young man in the battered truck rolls up to his station, Pete can tell there’s something very special about him. In fact, he’d bet all he has that Alan is the Little he’s been waiting for.

Welcome to the ABC Towers series. If you’re tempted by hot Daddies who will risk everything to keep their Littles safe, this adventure is for you.

This story was originally released in the Dirty Daddies PArty Romm Pride 2022 anthology.

My review:

Alan Phillips has been one of my favorite secondary characters and in Daddy's Guarding we get his story. This is a fast-paced tale of a country boy daring to be his true self in the big city and the man to make his dreams come true. The thing I love most about ABC Towers is that it provides a safe space for folks to be themselves.

Stage Fright (Bewitching Midlife Crisis Mystery #1) by Dakota Cassidy

Blurb:

If you want to know who unalived you, I'm your girl. Evanora Lavinia Dark at your service!

Heart attack/stroke/open-heart surgery survivor, new-lease-on-life starter, astral-projecting-ghost-talker.

And most importantly, a witch over fifty with bursitis, blood pressure meds, and zero effs to give.

I’m done with corporate life—or maybe it was done with me first— and after a life-changing stroke followed by a heart attack and a subsequent quadruple bypass. All this just before boarding a plane for my lifetime dream trip to Hawaii.

Clearly, it was time for a change.

So I moved back to my hometown and my passion. Interior design. I have no experience, no degrees in the field, but I jumped in with both feet and opened my own house staging business--Stage Right. Nowadays, you can find me happily decorating houses for my best friend, house flipper, and real estate agent, Fabiola Fabrizio.

Together, we’re determined to give our town, Buttermilk Bay, located in Massachusetts (not far from Salem) a facelift and bring in young families to stir up the economy. Little by little, people are beginning to take notice of my work and hiring me on the daily and that’s great for my bank account.

There’s only one problem. Ghosts. Sooo many ghosts. Ghosts I started to see after my bypass surgery (cliche, right?). Ghosts who were murdered and need my help to solve the mystery surrounding their deaths. Do you have any idea how hard it is to carry a fifty pound chandelier while a ghost is in your ear, hassling you to find their killer?

When a guy named Ferris Leopold is found dead at the house next door to the one I’m staging, it’s full steam ahead to solve his murder. Or is it? Ferris was a lowdown dirty, albeit petty thief in life and I’m struggling to set aside my morals in order to help him.

But as I dig deeper into Ferris’s past, meet a hot AF silver fox of a man, and explore my new powers in the process, I discover not everything is as it seems...

My review:

Stage Fright is the first in a delightful new paranormal cozy series. It features a fifty something single empty nester who is starting over. She’s left her soul sucking job behind and is doing what she loves. She has a wonderful BFF and a hunky contractor has made his interest known. Evan sees ghosts and helps them solve their murders like a clumsy Jessica Fletcher.

I really enjoyed meeting Evan and her quirky cortege of friends. I can’t wait to see where the author takes this series.
