Big Bad Boss: Midnight by Renee Rose, Lee Savino

Blurb:

I hate my boss.

The Wall Street tycoon is a jerk. A world-class alpha-hole.
Bitingly good-looking, but terribly flawed.
The kind of man you can never please with the manners of a knife blade
and the power and money to match.
I went to school with bullies like him, so I’m not afraid.
What scares me is my attraction to the man. How much I enjoy sparring with him.
The verbal dress-downs. His inscrutable expression afterward.
He’s danger wrapped up in power,
and he’s getting harder and harder to resist.

I hate my new assistant.

I’ve hated them all, but this is a different kind of hate. A tortuous one.
She’s whip-smart, overly-capable and talks back.
And the little human smells like temptation. The worst kind.
She dresses to kill, and I’m in danger of dying.
One of these days, she’s going to push me too far.
And she’s completely unprepared for what happens
when you unleash an alpha wolf on his quarry.

Midnight is book one in the Big Bad Boss trilogy. It features a billionaire boss-hole wolf shifter and his freakishly smart assistant.

My review:

I love Madi! She is smart, sassy and takes no crap from her boss-hole Brick. I loved the back and forth between them. I really enjoyed this book right up to the cliff hanger at the end. I can’t wait for the next installment.

Bosse: Wild Wolf Pack from the world of Gallize Shifters by Dianna Love

Blurb:

Can a gifted female on an impossible mission and a tortured wolf shifter doomed to die in a cage risk trust to save each other?

Bosse will never leave the cage he’s been locked in for over the past two years. Used as entertainment for a lion shifter pretending to be a king, he’s forced to battle other shifters daily where only one can survive thanks to his pack alpha who sold him. The minute he realized female pack members were coming to his bed only to breed, he refused to have a cub born by women unworthy of being mates only to be taken away. Then a chance for escape comes from a strange female servant who secretly gives him food better than his normal gruel, he’s immediately suspicious but … she also leaves him cookies. Who bakes cookies for a monster? The more he watches her, the more his numb heart begins to feel again, which is dangerous. What if she’s trying to trick him like others who betrayed him?

When an important female leader goes missing, Alifair is tasked with finding the woman. Why? Because Alifair inherited the duty to protect her clan of gifted beings, but her magic is flawed. Even her best asset of clairvoyant dreams has occasional hiccups. That’s how she ended up captured in Slovakia to toil as a servant where the female leader is being held. With no sight of the leader in weeks, Alifair is at the point of panic until a new dream shows points to the person who can aid her in succeeding at her duty. Her dream godmother must have been on a drinking binge because Alifair will first have to free the most dangerous wolf shifter locked in the basement cages. Then time runs out when Bosse infuriates the crazy lion shifter who decrees Bosse will die by the next morning, forcing her to gamble her life to make deal with the wolf shifter.

My review:

Grit, guts and determination. That describes both Bosse and Alifair. That is what they need for Bosse just to keep on living and Alifair to live up to her mothers legacy. When they team up there is nothing that can stop them except each other.

This story takes place in a richly described world filled with great characters. I can’t wait for more in the wild wolf pack.

Doc (Shadowridge Guardians MC #4) by Kate Oliver

Blurb:

“Kitten, you’re riding a fine line and once you cross it, you’re going to be very sorry…”

Harper has just gotten her life back. After barely escaping her abusive ex-boyfriend, she’s finally found a place she thinks she can call home. Shadowridge feels safe, and safe is what she needs more than anything right now.

Doc’s convinced he’ll never find the one for him. After all, no one wants to deal with a man who is as scarred and damaged as he is. No Little wants to deal with waking up to her Daddy having nightmares on the regular. But when he helps the timid Little girl with the scraped knee and empty ice cream cone, he isn’t so sure he can walk away, even if it is the best thing for her.

Harper might have vowed to cut all romance from her life, but Doc knows what she needs, and he’s going to be the one to give it to her.

My review:

This is a sweet story of two people with their own demons who may just be the perfect cure for each other. Doc suffers from PTSD nightmares and Harper is afraid of her own shadow. Watching Harper blossom and learn to be comfortable in her own skin once again was delightful. Another wonderful addition to the Shadowridge MC series.

Her Cyborg Lumberjack (The Drift: Haven Colony #7) by Susan Hayes

Blurb:

Birds were her only passion… until she met him.

Rin has dedicated her life to the study of birds. When the military uncovers a lost project that results in a new avian species, they hire Rin to investigate what they’ve created… and how to best use their newest assets.

Rin wants more for her subjects than a life of risk and servitude, but keeping secrets from the military is a dangerous game… especially when playing alone.

This cyborg thought he was better off on his own… then he found her.

Infantry scout. Prisoner. Unwilling test subject. Axe has been many things in his life, but most of it he spent alone. Freedom hasn’t changed that. He protects the colony from a distance—patrolling the wild places others avoid.

He thought he had everything he needed until a chance encounter changes everything. Now he’s got a psychic hawk in his head and a bright and cheerful scientist sneaking into his heart.

She needs his protection. The psy-hawks need his help. And Axe is about to discover that a life of solitude isn’t what he wants after all.

**Publisher’s note: This story was previously released as part of the Pets In Space 8 Anthology. If you bought the anthology, you already own this romance story.

My review:

An awesome addition to The Drift: Haven Colony series by Susan Hayes. I love the idea of psy-hawks. Axe is a big, burly loner of a cyborg and is okay with that until he spies Rin working with the psy-hawks. Rin has tipped Axe off his axis and we get to watch as he will take on the world to make her his own. Though this is part of a series it can be read standalone.

Rolling in the Deep (Women of the Fold Book 5) by Terri A. Wilson

Blurb:

Evangeline Coral has a problem. She needs a boyfriend, stat. But it’s not like she can call dial-a-boy. So when a hot shark enters her life, her best friend talks her into taking him to the Deep Blue Seas Expo. It was supposed to be just for show and just for the weekend. But she gets way more than she bargained for when he forces her to deal with past issues she buried a long time ago.

Max Waters had a strong sense of protection, making him a good security officer for The Fold, but it’s also why he lost his job. Now, he has the perfect life as the owner of The Great White. And then a beautiful, distraught mermaid walked into his bar. She needs a boyfriend to introduce to her family, and Max eagerly volunteers as the gentleman he is. But this weekend will turn out to be way more than the casual friends-with-benefits relationships he’s used to.

My review:

This book had me empathizing with Evangeline a mermaid who can’t shift her legs. A work-a-holic perfectionist that has poured her heart into making it on land and in business. She is about to deal with her dysfunctional family and she wants to prove to them that despite her disability she is doing fantastically well.

Shark shifter Max is in his second career. From Fold security to coffee/bar owner. When Evangeline dumps her cheating boyfriend in front of his place of business, he is driven to see her smile again.

I really loved watching Evangeline’s world view shift and Max discover he can be a one woman man.

Though this is part of a series it can be read stand alone.

Black Bears of Independence: Oscar by K.R. Hall

Blurb:

Oscar places an ad for a receptionist, and Gabriella answers it. What could go wrong with this?

Oscar Dailey was ten when his life was turned upside down. His human father’s alcoholism altered their lives in a deadly way. His bear shifter mother couldn’t stay in their hometown; the memories were becoming too painful. So, Oscar’s mother packed up their life in Orange, Massachusetts, and moved to Drake, Colorado.

Gabriella Bonocchi lost her parents and siblings one fateful night when she was seven. A drunk driver crashed into her family vehicle, killing everyone but her. Child welfare services packed Gabriella up and moved her to live with her aunt in Denver, Colorado.

What will happen when they discover the drunk-driving was Oscar’s father and that the accident that changed his life also changed Gabbi’s?

Magic, mystery and love. Black Bears of Independence: Oscar has it all. Oscar and Gabbi are meant to be. I loved watching them and their supporting characters fight for their future.

An enthralling read.

FEAR: A Vampire & Slayer Opposites-Attract Romance by Candace Blevins

Blurb:

Enemies to lovers. Opposites attract. No matter how you say it, these two supernatural beings are a volatile, visceral mix right from the start.

Etta is a vampire, and she’s been forced to work for the Concilio for centuries. She feeds on fear — a rare and powerful talent, highly valued by the ruling vampires who rely on torture as a weapon against their enemies. But a Master Vampire friend of old is finally in a position to procure her release from the infamous institution.

Ryan is a slayer, responsible for protecting humankind from the supernaturals who prey on them, and he isn’t pleased when the former evildoer and most feared torturer of the Concilio moves into his city.

He’s even less pleased at his reaction to her. Slayers don’t date vampires, and even if they did, they wouldn’t date one more inclined towards evil than good.

My review:

Vampire & Slayer each should be wanting to kill the other but fate has a sense of humor and makes the attraction between Ryan (the Slayer known as Death to the monsters) and Etta the vampire with the (gift?) of feeding on fear and terror. I enjoyed the sparring and negotiating between Ryan and Etta and their associated factions. This book sucked me in and wouldn’t let me go.     Fantastic read.

Blurb:

She certainly isn’t looking for her fated mate.

It’s the life she always dreamed of. Until the demons of her past come calling, and threaten to destroy everything she’s come to cherish…

My review:

Another sweet addition to the Bratburg series. Tiger shifter and chef Marshall meets his mate in pastry chef and little Shaw.  Watching Shaw blossom in Marshall’s care made my heart sing.

Happily Ever Maybe (Montgomery Ink Legacy #4.5) by Carrie Ann Ryan

Blurb:

NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan’s Montgomery Ink Legacy continues with a workplace romance that started with a fling and ends with something more.

It was only supposed to be one job.

I know the rules.
Get in. Get out.
Protect the girl, then move on.
Only it never works out the way it should.
Now Jennifer and I work with each other and there’s no going back to normal.

Then it turned into something more.

Gus isn’t for me. I know that.
Only the chemistry that burns between us won’t fade away.
We promise it will only be one night.
Then another.
But when our actions have consequences that could mean the end of our future, we’ll have to figure out exactly what we want.
Even if it means walking away broken before it begins.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

My review:

Workplace romance with heart. In this delightful short story Gus and Jennifer have been flirting with each other for over a year but now Gus has caught feelings and it is interfering with his work. Watching him fumble through sharing his heart is at times cringeworthy and others downright hilarious. A warm and fun read.

Blurb:

The mystery of three missing teens and a traumatizing murder unearths decades of buried secrets in a shocking novel of suspense by a Wall Street Journal and Amazon Charts bestselling author.

Twenty years ago, five teenage campers disappeared. Two eventually turned up, bound and left for dead on the Columbia River’s rocky shore. Only Devin Bonner miraculously survived, but with no memories of what happened in the Oregon forest.

Redemption's Edge (Vampire Motorcycle Club #3) by Alyssa Day

Blurb:

Tempting love can be fatal--even for the most dangerous vampire in Savannah--in New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Alyssa Day’s tantalizingly sexy romance...

Meara Delacourt loves being underestimated, especially when it comes to her enemies. Few know that the wealthy socialite and philanthropist is a 300-year-old master vampire--or the horror that rains down when her emotions spiral out of control. The consequences are nothing short of devastating. Which is why she can’t risk an attraction to the irritating, arrogant, and unbelievably hot Edge...even if she wanted to. And oh, she does.

Scientist-turned-vamp Edge knows exactly what it’s like to fear emotions. He keeps a tight rein on his, knowing that--thanks to being the subject of a cruel experiment--falling in love is an instant trigger for his death. Fortunately, he can control himself...he has no choice. But the golden, sexy-as-hell Meara is one temptation he can’t find a cure for.

Now they’re forced to fight the pull of their attraction, knowing that every moment of surrender brings them closer to the edge of disaster. But as the Chamber--a sinister organization of ancient warlocks--decides to seize control of Savannah, they’ll have no choice but to fight together, knowing it could spell doom for them all. Especially when the Chamber reveals the one secret that could end it all...

The Vampire Motorcycle Club series is best enjoyed in order.

Reading Order:

Book #1 Bane’s Choice

Book #2 Hunter’s Hope

Book #3 Redemption’s Edge

My review:

Oh the angst, the agony. Edge finds himself falling in love just like the others around him. Except it could be fatal for him. Meara is afraid of losing control so she avoids feelings but oh how she might want to risk it for Edge. Watching Edge and Meara fight their feelings was as frustrating for me as it was for them. Thankfully they had plenty to do to keep themselves busy.

Redemption’s Edge is a fantastic finale to this series. High powered energy with a fun love story.

Magic After Midlife series by Deborah Wilde

I spent my weekend binge reading the Magic After Midlife series by Deborah Wilde. Nothing got done because I couldn’t put it down. Action, adventure, magic, mischief and wonderfully quirky characters this series has it all.

MAGIC AFTER MIDLIFE

Middle-aged. Divorced. Hormonally imbalanced. Then she got magic.
Underestimate her. That’ll be fun.

Featuring a slow burn shifter romance and a smart older heroine with zero effs left to give, this clever, laugh-out-loud urban fantasy will take you on a wild ride.

When Aria Martin volunteers to pick up the dessert for her best friend’s bachelorette party, she never expects to uncover a whole new world in her own town. Fueled by the caffeine-laden treats, she’s energized to explore her hidden desires.

Cameron Ferguson is intrigued by Aria the moment she steps into Blaze. He immediately guesses she is Little and volunteers to show her around. By the time she finishes asking him a million questions about the adult club, he’s certain she is his. Now, all he has to do is convince her.

Little Cakes is a sweet and satisfying series, but dare to taste only if you like delicious Daddies, luscious Littles, and guaranteed happily-ever-afters.

My review:

This installment will leave you with a sigh. Aria and Cameron are as sweet (with a touch of bite) as a Mocha Latte. These two have their work cut out for them as Cameron introduces Aria to her little side. A sweet and fun addition to the series.

Cutter: Devils' Spawn Daddies by Victoria Saccenti

Blurb:

The cops label him “trouble” on sight. But it’s the kind of trouble she dreams about.

Between the Devils' Spawn MC cut on his back and the blood on his hands, Cutter isn’t surprised he’s landed in police custody for doing the right thing—again. But then the pretty cop who slapped cuffs on him years ago walks into the interrogation room. Only now she’s a detective, and still the brunette bombshell who lives in his Daddy Dominant fantasies.

Emily Mayhew knew Cutter was innocent back then, but as a rookie she could only watch him be railroaded straight to jail. Now she needs his help. The Sons of Chaos MC is running guns, drugs, and humans—and they can smell “cop” a mile away. Infiltrating this gang requires the real deal. It also requires a tight perimeter of secrecy to keep her jealous colleagues’ dirty fingers out of it. Working with Cutter, the man who fuels her most sensuous submissive dreams, will be the adrenaline rush of Emily’s life.

But if he discovers she’s Middle, will he accept her? Or will it be the distraction that brings the entire investigation, and her dreams, crashing down?

My review:

Don’t judge a book by its cover. Cutter may look big and bad and he can be but he is also a total softy.  Cutter and Emily will make your heart squishy.  I really wanted to Gibbs smack Emily a couple of times but Cutter made her see the error of her ways.  A fun escape.
