Framed (Black Swann Investigations #1) by Wayne A.D. Kerr

Blurb:
Toronto’s newest homicide detective, Reggie Swann, seemed to have it all: great career, handsome husband and plans to start a family, until she was framed for murder…

A cop has very few friends in prison. After surviving ten brutal years behind bars, Reggie’s conviction is finally overturned thanks to her tenacious mother, a new forensic test and a very clever lawyer. She quickly discovers that getting her old life back won’t be as easy as she hoped. To many, she was still as the media had dubbed her: ‘Black Swann – murderer and cop-gone-bad’. The Toronto Police Department still considers her to be a suspect, Reggie’s husband has remarried and the real killer is still on the loose.

Before Reggie can return to Toronto and solve the crime that ruined her life, she reluctantly agrees to investigate a murder in her home town of Penticton, only to discover the two cases which are separated by ten years and five provinces might somehow be connected. Will anyone believe the wild theories of the disgraced detective?

The real murderer does!

He framed her once, this time Reggie Swann must die!

My review:
Framed takes you into the heart and mind of wrongly convicted homicide detective Reggie Swann. She has been in prison for ten long years when her lawyer has her case overturned and she is released. But overturned isn’t proven innocent and now Reggie is living with her mother trying to wrap her mind around freedom. She’d really like to find the jackhole who framed her but first she is asked by the lawyer who got her freed for a favor. Can she help a hometown lawyer prove her client is innocent. She is used to being on the other side of the equation but an investigation is something she is very good at.
Despite some unfortunate pacing issues I really liked Reggie and enjoyed this story. I look forward to future Black Swann Investigations.

My review:

We met Jack & Lindi in Show Me The Honey. Christmas Honey is a short story detailing an important moment in their lives but like the rest of their relationship they need to fight to be together. Misunderstandings, mischief and mistletoe. A fun peek in on one of my favorite couples.

Savage Kiss (Savage Shifters #2) by Milly Taiden

Blurb:
Sage Primrose dreams of the day she meets the man who will sweep her off her feet. She didn't expect him to abduct her while she wore nothing but a towel. Why did bad men have to look oh, so good?

Feral Kincaid will do anything to protect his family. When a human female supposedly kidnaps his niece, he goes to get her, claws blazing. But the abductor turns into the abductee and suddenly he has to figure out how to apologize to the one woman he needs to forgive him: his mate.

This tiger isn't used to romance in his life; he's too busy protecting his pride from a rival determined to take his land. But Feral would gladly take on bad guys instead of trying to figure out how to romance a human female. Sage needs to watch out. Feral is hellbent on romance and his target is her.

My review:
What woman hasn’t wanted a tiger in her bed? Lucky Sage gets the sexy tiger alpha Feral wanting her for his mate. He is barely housebroken and has no idea how to woo a human but he is a wild man in the sack and that may get him in the door then he can only hope that Sage has a forgiving nature. Feral was a bit raw for me but he was perfect for house mouse Sage. This is a steamy and fun story.

Better Dead (A B&B Spirits Mystery #1) by Pamela Kopfler

Blurb:
As the owner of a charming Louisiana bed and breakfast, Holly Davis believes in Southern hospitality--but she draws the line at welcoming the ghost of her cheating husband . . .

Burl Davis checked out of this life a little earlier than expected--before Holly could serve him with divorce papers over his extramarital flings. Unfortunately, it was not before he nearly bankrupted her beloved B&B, Holly Grove, a converted plantation that has been in her family for generations. Holly would never wish anyone dead, but three months later she's feeling a lot more relief than grief.
Until Burl's ghost appears as an unwelcome guest. Before his spirit can move on, her not-so-dearly departed needs Holly's human help to bust up the drug smuggling ring he was involved with. She has reservations, to say the least, but agrees to assist him if he'll make a show of haunting the B&B to draw in visitors. But when Holly's former love, Jack McCann, mysteriously resurfaces in town and checks in, she has to wonder if her B&B is big enough for the ghost of her husband and the very real physical presence of her old flame . . .

My review:
Better Dead is a quirky sometimes silly cozy mystery that will keep you guessing, laughing often and gritting your teeth on occasion. This is ultimately a story of second chances.
Holly is a young widow rather than divorcee because her despicable ex got himself blown up before she could serve him the papers. He was a lying, cheating scumbag and good riddance except he is still causing her problems even after death. He is back as a ghost and won’t leave Holly alone until she agrees to help him.
Holly's former love, Jack McCann, is back in town working at the newspaper such as it is. He has reparations to make with Holly and his father but that isn’t what brought him back.
I liked Holly, hated Burl her ex (what a slime job), and have reservations about Jack.
Can Holly help her ex move on, save her B&B, and heal old wounds? Read Better Dead and find out.

Hot SEALs: Guarded by a SEAL (Kindle Worlds Novella) by Julie Morgan

Blurb:
Andria Huffton led a quiet life in Virginia Beach. No worries. No baggage. No problems. She left all of that, and her past, behind in Colorado. Enjoying her life with her sister, Suzy, close by, everything calmed down and she could finally feel what it meant to be free. At least until she received a letter from the corrections facility where her past had been locked up, broke out.

Jax Masters finished his commitment to the military and the SEALs, but he knew he was not done with the fight. He found GAPS and joined their team. His first assignment was an attractive brunette who fought death, and survived.

When Jax met Andria, what he loved became a complicated mess with what he knew was right.

Andria’s worst fear was facing her past. Jax will protect her, no matter what. When protection may not be enough, Andria will be forced to find a strength inside herself she never knew she had.

My review:
Guarded by a SEAL is a fun, sweet and sexy read. The story is a bit predictable but that just leaves you more time to get to know the characters.
I liked girly girl Andria. She was much stronger than she knew. Jax knows better than to get involved with a client but the heart wants what the heart wants.
This story is a fun escape.

Purrfect Santa: Howls Romance by Jessie Lane

Blurb:
A woman afraid to love …

Nikki knows what it is to lose those you love. With her focus on her orphaned sister, she hasn’t given herself the chance to process her own grief over the loss of their parents. Life is chaos and the last complication she needs is a mate.

A lion alone for too long …

Joe Miller knows chaos. Being orphaned as a child, he’s never had a family to call his own. Crashing with a friend for the holidays, he’s hoodwinked into playing Santa Claus at a local mall. The last thing on his mind is finding a mate.

A love worth the risk …

With her baby sister on her hip, sadness in her eyes, and a longing in her heart, Nikki waits in line with her sister to see Santa. From the moment he scents her, Joe is in deep. It’s going to take everything he has to convince Nikki the love outweighs the risk to her heart. Luckily for Joe, he has fate and Nikki’s adorable baby sister on his side. After all, who can say no to the Purrfect Santa at Christmas?

My review:
Purrfect Santa is a feel good holiday quickie.
Joe Miller is fresh out of the military and hanging out with a friend while he makes plans. He didn’t expect to find his mate but now that he has he will do whatever is necessary.
Nikki has been through so much change in the last six months. Her parents were killed and she now has custody of her three year old sister. She doesn’t have time for a mate.
Maybe just maybe they can find a Christmas miracle together.
Not great art but a sweet read that will leave you with a smile and feeling good.

Private Eye (Tiger's Eye Mystery #2) by Alyssa Day

Blurb:
When Tess Callahan, new owner of Dead End Pawn, meets her grandmother the banshee, life is about to get complicated. When Tess’s partner Jack Shepherd, tiger shapeshifter and P.I., gets involved to help them investigate a banshee-kidnapping spree, life is about to get deadly. Because nothing is ever simple in Dead End, Florida, and sometimes it takes a tiger’s eye to see the truth.

My review:
Private Eye is a fun paranormal mystery. Tess doesn’t touch people because she sees how they are going to die. She meets the reason for that when her estranged grandmother shows up and is a banshee. She needs Tess & Jacks help discovering who is making banshees disappear. This is a fun mystery and I love how Tess and Jack are evolving.

Jury of One (Lindenshaw Mysteries #2) by Charlie Cochrane

Blurb:
Inspector Robin Bright is enjoying a quiet Saturday with his lover, Adam Matthews, when murder strikes in nearby Abbotston, and he’s called in to investigate. He hopes for a quick resolution, but as the case builds, he’s drawn into a tangled web of crimes, new and old, that threatens to ensnare him and destroy his fledgling relationship.

Adam is enjoying his final term teaching at Lindenshaw School, and is also delighted to be settling down with Robin at last. Only Robin doesn’t seem so thrilled. Then an old crush of Adam’s shows up in the murder investigation, and suddenly Adam is yet again fighting to stay out of one of Robin’s cases, to say nothing of trying to keep their relationship from falling apart.

Between murder, stabbings, robberies, and a suspect with a charming smile, the case threatens to ruin everything both Robin and Adam hold dear. What does it take to realise where your heart really lies, and can a big, black dog hold the key?

My review:
If you love the British mystery shows on PBS you will love this book.
Inspector Robin Bright is back with his trusty sidekick Sargent Anderson, his boyfriend Adam and the ever lovable Newfie Campbell and murder is on his agenda. This time it is in a nearby town that is short staffed investigating a serial killer. This is a really convoluted tale of several murders, robberies and plain old assault. This story played out in my mind like Masterpiece Theater. I really enjoyed trying to figure out who dunnit. I think you will too.
Even if you don’t like m/m you should enjoy this story as anything other than a kiss happens behind closed doors.

When A Lioness Growls (A Lion's Pride #7) by Eve Langlais

Blurb:
A trip to paradise. A mystery to solve. And a seriously uptight dude who doesn’t know how to smile.

Stacey’s been intrigued by Jean Francois since the moment she first saw his granite countenance. Then when she found out he could fly… She never was one to leave her four feet on the ground. While she might act like a princess, adventure is her middle name.

Under orders from her king, she drags poor JF along with her to an exotic location in search of answers. On the way, they find danger—fun—clues to unravel—stupendous—and a fiery lust that even he can’t resist.

But when it comes to getting the man to make a commitment, this fiery-haired lioness is ready to growl. What will it take to make him admit he cares? Handcuffs come to mind.

My review:
When A Lioness Growls is a wonderful addition to the series and like the others can be read standalone.
Opposites attract in this fun romp. Stacey is a petite firecracker and Jean Francois has been burned before. True it wasn’t the hot redhead but he refuses to get involved with another lioness. The last one changed his life irrevocably. Stacey has never backed down from a challenge and Jean Francois may be the most delicious challenge she has ever met. Resistance is futile.

The Chameleon (Elite Crimes Unit #3) by Michele Hauf

Blurb:
The Elite Crimes Unit is a covert team within Interpol that specializes in taking down the world’s top criminals—and then offering them a deal. Because sometimes a history of bad behavior can be a very good thing . . .

Jack Angelo is clearly off his game. First his wallet gets lifted—by a pregnant woman, no less—on the ferry to Finland. At his hotel, he’s seduced by a sexy redhead who takes him for a ride, too. And when he finally starts casing the bank he’s supposed to rob, yet another female fouls things up. All he wants is to complete this assignment for the ECU to save himself and his family. Little does he know that the women who keep interfering are actually one woman—who’s about to show him just how outmatched he really is . . .

Known as “The Chameleon” Saskia Petrovik is a mistress of disguise tasked with watching the new recruit as he meets up with his high-level crew of thieves. She has no problem getting under the covers to pull off an undercover job—especially with the man known as Gentleman Jack. But multiple identities can cause multiple problems, and in these dangerous circles, the temptation to show her true self could change a deceptive affair into a deadly one . . .

My review:
The Chameleon is a sexy and totally entertaining romantic suspense where both the hero and heroine are not exactly the good guys though they work for the good guys. I haven’t read the earlier books in this series (but will definitely go back and get them now) and had no problem following the story. Gentleman Jack Angelo is a thief from a family of thieves. He traded jail time for stealing for the ECU. Saskia Petrovik is a mistress of disguise charged with keeping an eye on Jack to keep him from going AWOL. The chemistry between these two is tangible. It is fun watching them fight the conflicts of interest as they arise. I really enjoyed this different story.

Propositioned by the Billionaire Moose by Eve Langlais

Blurb:
Get ready to indulge in an over the top romance with a paranormal twist on some favorite tropes.

Get married or you’re out of the will.
Blackmail pure and simple, but Bryce doesn’t have much of a choice if he wants to remain Grandfather’s heir. With the old man on his deathbed, the clock is ticking, so he’d better get cracking because a supposed cousin has just shown up looking for a pint of the maple syrup business.

I’ll gore him with my rack first!
Lucky for Bryce, he sniffs out the perfect woman and makes her a deal. What he doesn’t expect is to lose his heart in the process.

My review:
Fast, fun and over the top. Even the heroine laughs at the hero after all she reads romance. The Get married or you’re out of the will trope has been done to death so she laughs at the guy trying to use it on her. After that I was sold. If you want a fun, sweet and sexy escape check out the guy with a heck of a rack.

Dead Eye (Tiger's Eye Mystery #1) by Alyssa Day

Blurb:
For Jack Shepherd, tiger shape-shifter and former soldier, life is heading for a dead end. Dead End, Florida, to be exact. When he learns that he inherited a combination pawn shop/private investigation agency from his favorite uncle, Jack’s first job is to solve his uncle’s murder. Because sometimes it takes a tiger’s eye to see the truth.

My review:
If you like your mysteries with humor and a bit of magic this is the story for you. This is a spin-off from another series but can be read stand alone with no issues.
Who says you can’t go home again. You can but things will be very different as tiger shape-shifter Jack Shepherd finds out when he comes home after the war. His uncle was murdered and little Tess Callahan is all grown up and now your partner. Things are always strange in Dead Eye but things have gotten weirder than usual and Jack and Tess are determined to get to the bottom of it hopefully before it kills them.
I really got a kick out of this. Fans of Charlaine Harris will enjoy this book.

Pure Irish (Suit Romance) by Cara North

Blurb:
Ophelia Peters is a military veteran, a thrill seeker, and aspiring clothing designer living in NYC. Niall Gallagher is the marketing director for his family's Irish Whiskey brand. He needs a date for his brother's wedding back in Ireland and nothing would irritate them all more than if he brought home an American beauty. Ophelia isn't afraid of taking a trip to Ireland and acting like Niall's girlfriend for a weekend. She is afraid of how easy the Irishman seems to fit into her heart. It could just be the suit, but the man wears it well.

My review:
The only thing better than a good looking Irishman in a suit is one out of it. Ophelia Peters has been living her life for everyone else and is trying to find herself in NYC when she literally runs into hunky Niall Gallagher who invites her to be his date while his brother marries his ex-fiancé.
Pure Irish is a short, sweet and sexy escape that I really enjoyed.

Together they discover the lengths this evil enterprise will go to keep their dirty secrets hidden, but what the powers didn’t count on was what happens when assets go rogue and take justice into their own hands.

My review:
James Bond has got nothing on the sexy CIA Asset, Devlin Law. He and British strategist Jessica Banning are hot from the start and incendiary by the end of this short and sexy tale of intrigue. Break out the ice water and strap in for a heck of a ride.

A Hero for Sale: Suit Romance (Wounded Soldiers #3) by Milly Taiden & Contest

Blurb:
Captain Nick Gates isn't looking for love. He's also not interested in being sold in a bachelor auction. Unfortunately for him, it's happening. The auction, that is. Love, that's another story. He was severely burned when his fiancée dumped him right after he was hurt during the war. Love? He doesn't do that. No matter how cute he thinks Addy is, his heart is off limits.

Addilyn Walton did something she's never done before for Nick Gates and he doesn't even know it. The one thing she does know is that Nick will hate her guts once he finds out who she is. Still, Addy is nothing like her sister, the evil spawn from hell. She has feelings and she really likes Nick. Enough to buy him at an auction for an outrageous amount of money. It's for charity, so it's okay, right?

Nick and Addy can't fight their attraction. They also can't fight the fact she's related to someone he despises. Maybe, if they focus on falling in love, things will work themselves out? Soon, they're going to find out that in love and war, anything goes.

My review:
Captain Nick Gates is conned into being sold in a Bachelor auction for the organization that helped him when he was wounded in action. He has the scars inside and out to prove it. He never counted on Addilyn Walton. A Hero for Sale is a sweet and sexy short that will tug the heart strings and leave you with a smile.

Hold Me Harder by Renee Dominick & Contest

Blurb:
PR exec Natalie Lindgren is all business…until it comes to dealing with her craving for sexual submission. Two years ago, she walked away from the lifestyle—and her Dom, Javier. Now she’s back at his luxury guest ranch, not as his sub, but as a member of her sister’s wedding party.

But Javier’s not her only problem. Her ex, Ryan—who she left because his ideas to kink up their sex life veered too closely to Natalie’s former lifestyle—is the best man.

She’d thought she could resist the two dominant men, but with one touch Natalie is back under Javier’s influence, and one whisper has her aching for Ryan’s fingers tight around her wrist. How is she going to get through the weekend? Especially once the two of them join forces to remind her exactly what she’s been missing…

My review:
m/f/m
Natalie Lindgren is conflicted. By day she is a high powered PR executive. By night she fights her submissive side in the bedroom. In Hold Me Harder Natalie is put in a position where she is away from home and work where her former Dom and her kinky ex put her in a position where she has to think things through. She misses the sex and feels like half a person. Can she have it all? Can these two men provide what she needs in her life?
I liked this book but I think it was too short to fully explore Natalie’s conundrum. But it wasn’t too short to enjoy some really hot sex and a fun holiday.

My review:

WOW! Killman Creek is a high energy, intense, psychological thriller that will take you through a maze and keep you guessing. Poor Gwen can’t catch a break. As You Were, Cowboy (Lone Star Leathernecks #2) by Heather Long & Contest

Blurb:
Mateo Lopez is on medical discharge from the United States Marine Corps after receiving a severe spinal cord injury. He doesn’t believe his life can get back to normal, but a sexy, feisty new horse trainer has other ideas.

Mateo Lopez, honorably discharged from the Marine Corps on medical leave, is struggling to rebuild his life. The spinal cord injury that left him feeling like a broken man resulted in his inability to ride the horses he loves and works with on Round Top Ranch.

The new horse trainer at the ranch, however, has decided that this isn’t acceptable. Claire Windsor, a spirited, London-born spitfire of a woman, has come to begin a new program to turn the horses into therapy animals. She turns Mateo’s world upside-down, and try as he might to avoid her, she keeps inserting herself into his life. As their plans for the ranch clash, so too do their hearts...making all things fair in love and war.

My review:
As You Were, Cowboy tells the tale of Mateo Lopez a medically discharged Marine living with chronic pain and the author makes you feel it. You have to wonder how she is going to give this guy his HEA because how can you be happy when you are in various stages of agony every minute of the day. You’ll have to read to find out but I will give you a hint. You have to find happiness when and where you can.

Restraint: Suit Romance (A Dark side Fey Story) by S.A. Price

Blurb:
For years I wanted her, a fey lady of worth and standing. I stood by as her friend, was her shoulder to cry on, and the person she told her secrets to. She was perfect for me. Beautiful, sexy, and her powers complimented mine. She never figured out my need of her. And we said goodbye once upon a time, not by any choice of mine.

Now she’s back, and we are both older, wiser, and different. Not children anymore. She needs my help so she can achieve her dreams. And I plan to give it, for a price.

Because I am not the guy she knew, not anymore. Older, influential and… confident. Everything I lacked back then is exactly what she needs now. And I plan to give it to her…
In exchange for one night.

Because it’s only going to take one night to make her mine.

Authors Note: This book takes place in the Eververse Universe. Characters mentioned are from other books, and it is tied to them.

My review:
There is something totally sexy about a man in a well-crafted suit. Osgood has learned this in the time since his best friend cut ties now Sutton has come back into his life and he is going to show her how to embrace the dark side. Restraint is a sexy short story that takes place in the Eververse Universe but can be read standalone.

Rugged Texas Cowboy (Cowboys and Captives #1-2) by Lora Leigh

Blurb:
COWBOY AND THE CAPTIVE
Melina is one of two gorgeous twin daughters, the clever and considerate one who always spared her parents the humiliation of what her sister Maria had wrought. But now, Melina is finally ready to stand up for herself and seize control of her life—until she is kidnapped by a cowboy, named Jardin, who is dead-set on settling the score with her family. There’s only one catch: In capturing Melina, this tough, rough, hunk of a man has actually found a way to unleash her greatest fantasies, body and soul. . .

COWBOY AND THE THIEF
Beautiful, spirited Angel Manning has always longed to experience the power of her ancestors’ most precious heirloom. Her mother once told her that the legendary Irish torque would lead Angel to the one man worthy of possessing her heart. But when Angel learns that her father, now a widower, has sold the torque to the notorious two-timer Jack Riley, she is furious. Of course she plans to take back what is rightfully hers, by whatever means necessary. But the fate of the ancient Druids works in mysterious ways. . .Could it be that this slick, smooth-talking cowboy was destined to satisfy Angel’s deepest desires all along?

My review:
Two smoking hot kidnap fantasy books in one volume.
COWBOY AND THE CAPTIVE – Luc Jardin is out to punish the woman who keeps escaping the law even though she was responsible for his buddy and him getting shot. Too bad he kidnaps the wrong girl. This story is sizzling hot and kept me turning pages. I loved Melina and hated Maria and her parents with a vitriol I haven’t felt in a long while.
COWBOY AND THE THIEF – I loved the premise and the sex was super but I really didn’t like Jack. He was a complete ass and I had a hard time figuring out why Angel fell for him.

Not with her stepmother making every move a tug-of-war. Grace’s new app, Mirror-Mirror, can rebrand them as fresh and new for a younger generation. That’s only if she can keep her stepmother and her vindictiveness away from her plans. Good luck with that!

Wolf shifter, Adam Hunt, has been the company’s Head of Security since Grace was a teen. Hired to look after Gracie’s well-being, he’s crossed the evil stepmother one too many times and now she’s blackmailing him to do her bidding. What she doesn’t know is he’s the Omega of his pack, and together he and their Alpha, Zach Cassidy, will protect and defend Grace even at the cost of their own lives.

Grace is their mate. The one destined to complete their Triad. She has no idea that she’s about to become part of the sexiest relationship of her life. Jealousy and greed push her stepmother to get rid of Grace. Gracie might not be ready for what’s coming her way—not the two sexiest men she’ll ever want or the poison conjured by her stepmother, but she knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to fight.

My review:
m/f/m
Her Winter Wolves is a hot PNR mĂ©nage.  I adored Grace Snow a modern young woman trying to bring her deceased fathers company into the future while dealing with animosity and downright hate from her stepmother. And while Grace isn’t as pure as the driven snow wolf shifters Adam and Zach don’t seem to mind.
This is a sweet and sexy modern adult fairytale that will certainly bring sweet dreams.

Winnawarra by Elizabeth M. Darcy

Blurb:
Heart pounding suspense and feel good romance set in the Australian Outback.

Emily Perkins is over the moon to learn Jock Macgregor has left her a share in Winnawarra Station in the magnificent Kimberly region of Outback Australia. The bonus comes when she realises, his handsome grandson, Doug is the man of her dreams. She loves working beside him and every day is an adventure.
After receiving a letter from Jock, she discovers he was convinced the accident that killed his son and daughter-in-law was actually murder, and he included her in his will to investigate the deaths.

When accidents start happening to Emily, and she hears footsteps outside her room at night, she is convinced someone is stalking her.

Is she next on the killer’s list?
Isolated on an Outback cattle ranch, will strong, dependable Doug be able to keep her safe?

A murderer is loose at Winnawarra Station, and she must race against time to identify the killer before he strikes again.

My review:
Winnawarra is a sweet romantic suspense that takes place mostly on a cattle station in the Australian Outback. This story reads like a travelogue at times. The mystery was fun and I really liked the Macgregor men but it took me a bit longer to warm up to Emily. Still I enjoyed this story and look forward to further adventures of the Red Skies Detective Agency.

The Charmer's Gambit (Mershano Empire #2) by Lexi C. Foss

Blurb:
He set his sights on the wrong girl.
Me.

Law school taught me a lot of things, but nothing prepared me to deal with this determined, hotter-than-Hell millionaire. Don’t get me wrong, I’m flattered. But resisting Will Mershano is harder than passing the bar. He’s everything: sexy, confident, intelligent. And he wants me.

When he hires my firm to represent Mershano Vineyards, I’m left with no choice but to work right alongside him—or forfeit my job. There’s only one problem. He doesn’t know about my past or how it stalks me at every turn. All he wants is a little flirtatious fun, but Will’s playing a dangerous game.

And there’s more at stake than just my heart. . .

My review:
This book was a blast. I love Will Mershano! Will defies being pigeonholed.  He breaks through every preconception Rachel has of him. He is tenacious, patient and sexy as hell. Rachel is smart, driven and scared. But Will is determined to find out what Rachel is running from, fix it and make her his own. I believe he will do just that.
Although this is part of a series it can be read stand alone.
