Her Sexy Skunk by Virginia Nelson

Blurb:
Christine Jarrods wants to be a writer of paranormal young adult fiction so she’s pursuing a degree in English. By day, she tackles Chaucer. By night, she stalks the streets looking for something magical to inspire her muse. Finding a thread that suggests one of her profs might be some flavor of shifter, she decides to dig…even though she’s been warned to let it go.

Oliver Standish has a secret. Like a lot of guys his age, he’s scraping by, delivering pizzas, trying to pay off loans from a failed attempt at school, and crushing on Chrissy—the one that got away in high school. Only his family knows he’s also trying to deal with being a shifter…he sure can’t tell Chrissy. With her fascination with magic, he knows she’d want to know more about it—but how do you tell a girl who wants to find a monster that you change into a skunk?

My review:
Got to love the idea of a skunk shifter right?  I mean the problems/possibilities are fun to think about and so I just had to read this.  This is a fast fun shifter story.   Oliver (our skunk shifter) and shy English lit major Chrissy have lusted after each other for a bit but neither did anything about it until Chrissy decides to explore a weird Facebook post regarding one of her professors. Oliver is her unlikely rescuer and they finally start to acknowledge each other.  It is almost painful to watch these two very shy individuals dance around their mutual attraction.
I got a real kick out of this book. I could wish it was a bit longer but really got a kick out of it.  It is never a bad thing when you end a story with a smile on your face.

The Werewolf Wears Prada Review & Giveaway

The Werewolf Wears Prada (San Francisco Wolf Pack #1) by Kristin Miller

Blurb:
Melina Rosenthal worships at the altar of all things fashion. Her dream is to work for the crème de la crème fashion magazine, Eclipse, and she'll do much anything to get there. Even fixing up the image of a gorgeous, sexy public figure who's all playboy, all the time. Even if he's the guy who broke her heart a year ago...

Even if Hayden Dean is a werewolf.

Since his father's death, Hayden's the heir apparent to the San Francisco Wolf Pack—well, once he settles down. Hayden isn't interested in giving up his partying ways, except he's pretty sure he's found his fated mate, and the fact that she's a non-shifter is bad news. Now he must find a compromise between the traditions of his wolf world and his certainty that Melina is his...before fate (or another werewolf) bites them both in the butt.

My review:
I received a copy of this story through NetGalley for an honest review.
I asked to read and review this story because I loved the title.  It painted a picture in my head of a really fun and snarky story.  This story has its moments and overall it is a good read but I really didn’t connect with either of the main characters and there is little to no snark.  My bad for the assumption going in.
Hayden is the rich playboy who needs to have his public image groomed.  Melina is the reporter who can get it done.  If only hadn’t stood her up a year earlier.  This story had all the right elements and a rockin good mystery.  If only I liked the characters a bit more.  Still a good read.

Wild Heat (Northern Fire #1) by Lucy Monroe

Blurb:

Sometimes old flames are the hottest of all . . .

In the quaint little town of Cailkirn, Alaska, it's impossible to keep a secret, especially one as juicy as the unexpected return of Kitty Grant. Tack MacKinnon remembers her wild red curls and even wilder spirit—and still feels the sting from when she shattered his heart in college. But there's a pain in Kitty's gorgeous eyes that guts him to the core, and Tack is determined to do whatever it takes to see the woman he still loves smile again—even if it means taking on her demons as his own.

After fleeing an abusive ex-husband, Kitty decides that the best way to heal her broken heart is to come back home. But she gets a whole new shock when she sees how undeniably sexy Tack has become. More handsome, more muscular, more charming—more everything—he's impossible to resist. Before she knows it, they're reigniting sparks that could set the whole state of Alaska on fire. Yet trust doesn't come easy to Kitty anymore, and as things heat up between her and Tack, she can't help but wonder if one of them is going to get burned . . .

My review:
Wild Heat will make you think.  This book is not only a second chance romance it deals with some very deep issues as well.  Kitty and Tack were best friends but he was a hometown boy and she wanted nothing more than to get away even if that means leaving the boy she loved.  Biggest mistake ever.  Now after eight years apart Kitty has come home.  She has been beaten and battered but she is on the mend. Now if Tank could only figure out what he wants…
This is a well written, fast moving, often heart wrenching love story that takes place in the great state of Alaska.  This is the first in the series and I look forward to the next.
My only real problem with this book is the cover.  Tank has a beard throughout the book.

Beloved Ink (Inked in the Steel City, #8) by Ranae Rose

Blurb:
Loneliness. Lust. Longing. They say bad things come in threes, and for Ben Blair, tattoo artist Hannah Nakamura is a triple-threat. Her beauty goes beyond ink, and beyond words, but it’s easy to see that she’s hurting. He’d have to be crazy to think she’d surrender a broken heart to him and his demons.

He’d have to be even crazier not to try like hell to make her his, despite the pain of her past … and his.

Book 8 in the Inked in the Steel City Series

My review:
I adore this series and this book. I recommend reading them all. But I especially encourage you to read Alluring Ink (Inked in the Steel City #7) before reading this book. In Alluring Ink we met Dylan and his brother Ben. We found out that both Dylan and Ben are bi-polar.  Dylan is farther along in his acceptance and ability to deal with it.  Beloved Ink takes place some months after and deals with Bens story.  He is working hard and going to the gym.  He meets the new Hot Ink artist by shear accident and is instantly attracted. Hannah is starting over after a bad break up.  Their relationship develops in spite of that and as it grows so do the problems.    Can these two deal with the stigma attached to mental health issues and issues from the past?
Break out the Kleenex. I think this is a fabulous story and an important one.

Wolf on a Leash (Black Hills Wolves Book 15) by Virginia Nelson

Blurb:
Longtime submissive, Patch Williams, never quite finds the release she seeks. When a new Dom comes to town, offering play she’s never tried before, it’s a battle to give into the pleasure he offers while keeping her wolf nature a secret.

Home from overseas service, Kennedy Laurie realizes a few things about himself—he only gets off when a little sadism is involved, and he’s terrified of going too far, getting lost in the play. Patch might be just the submissive he’s been dreaming of.

Patch recognizes the call to mate…but with an out-of-towner? Her body demands for her to submit, to tell him everything, but can her Dom tame the Wolf on a Leash?

My review:
This story takes place in the world of Black Hills Wolves but can be read stand alone.  This is a short sweet story with BDSM elements.  Patch is a submissive wolf but still suffered under the former regime do she has learned to take care of herself.  She avoids everyone socially and goes to a small fet club to get her other needs met.  It is there that she meets the very human Dom Kennedy Laurie.  He has his own issues but there is a connection between the two.  Can Patch continue to keep her worlds separate?  Will Kennedy allow her too?  Read this short sassy book and find out.
I got a total kick out of Patch.  I really enjoyed this story.

Unraveled (Mastered #3) by Lorelei James

Blurb:
In this sizzling continuation of the Mastered series by New York Times bestselling author Lorelei James, a man will find the domination he’s always craved…

Shiori Hirano and Knox Lofgren are left to run the martial arts program at Black Arts while Ronin Black travels. On the surface, the two highest ranked belts appear to cooperate—but in private, they butt heads constantly, despite the undeniable attraction between them. Soon their power exchanges start to make for a sweltering dynamic in the bedroom…

At first Knox is shocked to be living out his submissive desires, but Shiori sets out to prove that embracing his true sexual nature doesn’t make him a weak man. But even while their sexual relationship grants him a power and fulfillment he finds surprising, there’s no training regimen for the fight that comes with loving a strong woman…

My review:
Lorelei James is known for her smoking HOT cowboy books.  She has moved on to the world of martial arts and MMA. Unraveled is Shiori Hirano and Knox Lofgren’s story.  The first 2½ books feature Shiori’s brother Ronin Black but this book can be read standalone.
Knox is an Alpha male; not who you think of as submissive but Shiori aka Mistress B proves otherwise.  Submissive doesn’t mean weak. This is a terrific, well told story.  I fell for Knox right along with Shiori.  This is the story of Knox’s submission and their growth as a couple.
I am so thrilled that Lorelei James is going to continue this series and am really looking forward to seeing Deacon fall.

Untamed Wolf (Wolves of Willow Bend #6) by Heather Long

Untamed Wolf (Wolves of Willow Bend #6) by Heather Long

Blurb:
Willow Bend Hunter, Dylan Royce, is a natural flirt and courted his fair share of she-wolves, but he’s never found the woman who makes his heart beat. With the new pack’s borders verging on Willow Bend territory, he’s tasked with keeping an eye on them. His job grows more challenging daily, especially since one seductive female keeps crossing the line.

Chrystal Landros knows she’s supposed to keep to her side of the Three Rivers-Willow Bend line. But she loves to explore, and Willow Bend is home to some spectacular sites. As a former Lone Wolf, she hasn’t always been certain of her welcome, but her new home in Three Rivers opens a wonderful world of unfamiliar opportunities. Too bad the wolf who makes her blood heat is tasked with keeping her away from the places she wants to visit.

While Dylan and Chrystal clash repeatedly over her border incursions, the game between them threatens to turn deadly. Tensions between Willow Bend and Three Rivers continue to rise. Could their forbidden dalliance be the spark to ignite a war?

My review:
I love the Wolves of Willow Bend and this may one of my favorites of the series.  This story isn’t a sniff and know that the other wolf is your mate kind of deal.  It takes bachelor wolf Dylan a while to figure out and admit to himself that the flighty wolf from 3 Rivers pack that keeps trespassing on Willow Bend territory in search of the pretty may just be his mate.
I truly enjoyed watching these two find out about each other and themselves.  I also enjoyed the peek we got of a kinder gentler Julian the uber scary enforcer.
This book can be read standalone but is better if you’ve read the earlier books in the series.

Craving Cameo: The Pullman Shifters (ROAR) by TL Reeve

Blurb:
The daughter of the Sentinels pack and MC Alpha, Cameo Cruz moved across country to escape her pack—and the wolf she can never have. Making a new life, she embraced her freedom and went to school. One partying night with her best friend shatters her bubble of safety, and she’s forced to do the one thing she swore she never would…ask for help.

Quade Rainwater lives for his pack and the life the Sentinels Alpha gave him when he took him in. He’d do anything for them, even cut himself off from the she-wolf he’s loved for as long as he’s known her. When all hell breaks loose and someone puts a bounty on his girl, Quade will cross the country to protect her. Unfortunately for him, he’s the last person she wants to see.

All he has to do is keep her safe from the bounty hunters, the locals, and himself….

My review:
I am not usually a fan of MC books but I am a fan of the ROAR series of loosely connected stories of young shifters coming into their own so I decided to give this installment a chance.
This was a really good read by a new to me author.  The characters were real and the story despite having shifters was believable.  Being married to a man 14 years my senior I was in a place to commiserate with the 12 year age difference between Quade and Cameo.  And unlike some of the others in this series I didn’t feel like everything was rushed to meet the size limitations.  I truly got a kick out of it and look forward to Fe & Cougars story.

Helena Goes to Hollywood: A Helena Morris Mystery by CC Dragon

Blurb:
Helena Morris Mystery Book 1

Martial arts instructor Helena Morris has a few weaknesses. One is her FBI agent ex-husband who she avoids. The other is her superstar sister Sonia who is divorcing a soap star hunk of a husband. When Sonia needs protection from a stalker, Helena finds herself playing bodyguard and investigator. Glitz and glamour aren't her style but she must gain full entry into her sister’s world to keep her safe!

It’s hard to know who to trust when half the suspects are professional actors with out of control egos. A murder too close for comfort stuns everyone and Hel knows her sister is probably next. Working the case with a little help from her still interested ex, a hunky LAPD detective, and other helpful friends, she has to track down rabid fans and clear jealous co-stars to get at the killer. With so many suspects, she’ll have to outsmart them all while not pissing off the LAPD to get a step ahead of the killer.

My review:
This is a fabulous cozy mystery. Helena is strong, motivated and herself.  I love that she is pushing forty and fantastic.  In this book she comes to the rescue of her baby sister 10 years her junior and a Hollywood up and comer.  The characters jump off the page and you have no trouble watching them play in your mind. The mystery kept me guessing right up to the end.  I am looking forward to more fun with Helena.

Forever Devoted (Tempting Signs #2) by Virginia Nelson

Blurb:
12 Authors. 12 Zodiac Signs. 1 Explosive Series. What seductive, contemporary romance will you find today? TAURUS.

Robbie Jacobs is content being just one of the guys. For years, she’s run with her ‘Pack,’ a group of rowdy boys she went to high school with, used to party with, and now leans on in times of trouble. She has a couple gal pals, sure, but none of them are as close as the Pack…

Gray Smythe has been the unchallenged leader of their group of friends for years. Stoic, determined, he’s managed to be there for them all through some crazy shit. But when Robbie, the only girl in their group, gets into a car accident, the line between friendship and lover suddenly gets a hell of a lot thinner.

One stubborn Taurus man who’s sure he knows what’s right and wrong and one woman fighting to win back her body and a chance at love… Will Robbie believe Gray is actually Forever Devoted?

My review:
This is a wonderful friends to lovers story.  Robbie & Gray became best friends as kids and formed their own little pack.  Now years later they are still best friends with a massive crush on each other that neither knows of or is willing to risk their friendship over.  That is until Robbie is nearly killed in a car accident and Gray takes over her care forcing them closer and further apart.
It is so much fun watching these two circle around each other and if Robbie doesn’t want Gray I do.  These two Taurus are as bull headed as their sign.  Forever Devoted is a quick sweet read.

Love Beyond Sanity (The Outsiders #2) by Rebecca Royce

Blurb:
LOVE BEYOND SANITY by Rebecca Royce

The Outsiders Book Two

Eighteen years earlier, Charma lost her destined soul mate. Convinced he must be dead, she kept her fears to herself so as not to destroy the morale of the Outsiders who already live with a shaky prophecy as their only guide.
Dr. Jason Randall is a man used to getting what he wants. There has never been a problem he couldn't out think or a situation he wasn't capable of handling.

Now they are both hunted by not one but two demons as they lead the slowly forming group of Outsiders out of the darkness and back into the light. The two strong souls will have to decide if prophecy alone is enough reason to stay together through insane odds...or if love is their true fate.

My review:

I want more!  This is a middle book. You really should read Love Beyond Time (The Outsiders #1) before reading this.
Love Beyond Sanity has Charma (pronounced Karma but spelled with a ch) one of the more intriguing Outsiders finding the soul mate she thought was dead. Charma actually leaves home to do it!  Something that is really tough for her to do as there are so many clamoring for her help.  And where does she have to go? An insane asylum.  The interplay between Charma and Jason is a lot of fun.  Jason once he gets his head out of his ass looks to be a terrific character.  I think Charma will get his head on straight in no time.  I have a small problem with the ending (besides wanting it to go on) where did Eden go?  I know that Gabriel and Drew took off but did Eden?  Please hurry with the next book and the answers to all the new questions raised in this book.

Tempting the Wolf (Black Hills Wolves #13) by Lia Davis

Blurb:
Tao Pack Tracker, Alanna Kemp possesses the rare gift of mind control. She allows nothing to stand in her way of keeping the existence of shifters a secret from humans—until she meets a sexy human doctor who stirs emotions long buried and puts her Wolf on a lethal edge.

Bastian Storm wants to start a new life in a new place where no one knows about his failures as a doctor. But when his past catches up to him, threatening the life of an innocent, he must place his trust in the hands of a woman with a deadly secret in order to save more lives than his own.

My review:
A strong single mother wolf shifter and a human doctor.  When Alanna’s son get shot and brought to a human hospital it shouldn’t have been a problem.  Go in get the kid and wipe everyone’s memory of your existence.  Big problem the sexy doctors mind can’t be wiped.  What is a wolf to do?
I love this series of loosely connected books by different authors.  It means I can visit the Black Hills Wolves dysfunctional pack more often.  In this installment you have a strong young woman placed in a difficult circumstance.  The doctor is smart, handsome and tenacious.  She is afraid to enlighten him as to the reality of wolf shifters because if he rejects it he rejects her, his mate.

Rescued by the Rancher by Victoria James

Blurb:
Starting over and starting a whole lotta trouble…

Meredith Anderson left her difficult past behind to create a new life for herself in Tall Pines—where she can be the independent, confident woman she always dreamed of being. Now she's a partner in her sister's wedding planning business, helping brides realize their happily-ever-afters…even as she promises herself to never fall in love.

Meredith's sweetness and vulnerability brings out the protective side of rancher Gage McAllister—even though their worlds are miles apart. All it takes is one night for desire to take hold of them both, a sizzling encounter that can only lead to the promise of more. But Meredith isn't looking for more, and even if she was, Gage is set to leave Tall Pines behind him…

My review:
This is a sweet story of finding yourself.  Meredith Anderson has grown in the year that she has been at Tall Pines and now she want to live again.  The man she wants to help her is Gage McAllister.  Problem 1 Gage doesn’t do relationships and Meredith has relationship type of gal all over her.  Problem 2 Gage and Meredith are from different sides of the tracks and Problem 3 is Gage is getting ready to strike out on his own 300 miles away.
It is so much fun watching these two find their way to each other.  This is a sweet book where the sex is fade to black but enjoyable none the less.  This book is part of a series but can be read standalone.  Enjoy; I sure did.

Touch of Amber (Hot Rods #7) by Jayne Rylon

Blurb:
As the planner for the Hot Rods’ quadruple wedding—one of which involves her sister, Nola—Amber Brown needs every ounce of her formidable attention to detail. Which is just fine with her.

She’s a teensy bit envious of the raw sexual power contained within Hot Rods’ polyamorous circle. But after watching her mother suffer the heartache of her father’s death, Amber won’t risk her heart, not even for the super-sexy lawyer on the guest list.

Gavyn has handled enough divorce cases to witness the horrors people who supposedly loved each other can inflict. Yet when he assists Amber with the wedding prep in exchange for her advice on his new venture, it’s hard to ignore the steam rising between them.

Finally, they agree to a single night of strings-free sex. Except one taste isn’t enough to curb their hunger. Until Amber makes a shocking discovery that sours her appetite for the man she thought could satisfy her for a lifetime. And leaves Gavyn negotiating desperately for a future he never thought he craved.

My review:
Break out the tissues and ice water.  This book had me at times laughing and crying and true to Jayne Rylon there was also a lot of sighing as she proved that a relationship without all the others can be just as hot.  Plus there is a quadruple wedding because Jayne likes to have her characters do things in groups.
This book stars two of the secondary characters from previous books, Nola’s sister Amber and Kayla’s brother Gavyn. Amber is a control freak event planner and Gavyn is an alcoholic former lawyer planning to open a bike customizing shop.  He has given up the stress of his former life and is trying to stay sober.  The chemistry between the two is off the charts.  He makes her want to loosen up and she makes him want things he has never had.  Will a wedding hookup be enough for them?
I sat down and ignored the world as I read this in one sitting.  The Hot Rods have twisted me up and played with my emotions before but Touch of Amber took me on a roller coaster ride and left me smiling and exhausted.

Triple the Taste (Savor #2) by Cassandra Carr

Blurb:
Josh and Aubrey become a couple after meeting at work. The job is on a mac-n-cheese food truck, and their boss, Seth, has offered both of them the chance of a lifetime at their age—to manage his new, second truck. As they begin to work together more, their feelings deepen.
But Josh has a secret; one he feels he must tell Aubrey before their relationship gets more serious. He’s bisexual, and has ex’s of both sexes. One of those is Kristoff,
Josh’s most long-standing relationship to date, who left Austin and Josh behind to answer the call of duty at his parents’ business.
Now Kristoff is back and wants to reconnect with Josh. Seeing the only person he’s ever loved, just as he’s falling for Aubrey, completely throws Josh. Just when he thought he could finally forget the man and be happy with someone else; old feeling resurface. Aubrey’s confused, too, since she feels a strange pull to this man she should regard as competition for Josh’s heart.
As the three navigate a possible ménage situation, they each have doubts about its viability. But in the end, will they be left with nothing, or will the three get a taste and be hooked?

My review:
Ménage
We met Josh and Aubrey peripherally in the first book of this series Melting Into You (Savor #1).  Seth had set them up in the second truck and knew they were becoming attached but as long as it didn’t interfere with work he was okay with it. Josh and Aubrey have been dating and growing closer.  Before they take it to the next level Josh has to come clean about being bi and having exes of both sexes. Aubrey is okay with it until Josh’s first real love comes back.  Kristoff is a tall sexy drink of water and both Josh and Aubrey are attracted to him and he too them.
This book left me wanting more.  Josh and Aubrey are good together with Kristoff in the mix they are better.  A lot of this book was Aubrey wondering what other people would think.  When they finally get together it is practically a relief.

Unrequited (Woodlands #4) by Jen Frederick

Blurb:
Winter Donovan loves two things: her sister and her sister's ex boyfriend. She's spent her whole life doing the right thing except that one time, that night when Finn O'Malley looked hollowed out by his father's death. Then she did something very wrong that felt terribly right.

Finn can't stop thinking about Winter and the night and he'll do anything to make her a permanent part of his life, even if it means separating Winter from the only family she has.

Their love was supposed to be unrequited but one grief stricken guy and one girl with too big of a heart results in disastrous consequences.

My review:
I fell in love with Winter Donovan.  She is an adopted daughter who lost her parents when she was only 16.  Her older sister, Ivy, is an alcoholic and substance abuser and Winter has done all she can to help.  Winter crushed on Ivy’s high school boyfriend, Finn, big time.  So it is only natural that now years later when she runs into Finn and he is hurting she tries to make him feel better.  When he wants more Winter has to figure out how to juggle all the things and people in her life.
I haven’t read the other books in this series and had no problems reading this stand alone.  This is a fast paced, well written story that will tear out your heart and then put it back better than ever.

Fierce Enchantment (Dante's Circle #5) by Carrie Ann Ryan

Blurb:
Humans aren’t as alone as they choose to believe. Every human possesses a trait of supernatural that lays dormant within their genetic make-up. Centuries of diluting and breeding have allowed humans to think they are alone and untouched by magic. But what happens when something changes?

Faith Sanders sacrificed her life to save her best friend—only to find herself trapped in an endless sleep. When she awakens, a year has passed and everything has changed. Her friends have not only moved on with their lives, but now she’s forever bound to a man she’s never met.

When Levi Hughes created a mating bond with the raven-haired, fiery woman, he knew he’d have to face the consequences. Not only does the woman in question bring with her a new battle he might not be ready for, but his past has finally caught up with him. It will take more than the strength of their bond to not only survive their new worlds…but each other.

Warning: Contains a drop-dead sexy wizard with more than simple magic tricks up his sleeve, a lightning-struck, fierce woman who finds her paranormal half more shocking than she’d dreamed, an ex-wife who wants nothing but pain and death, and a mating bond so combustible that the world will be speaking of their seduction for an eternity.

My review:
I have waited for this book.  Faith may have been one of the seven lightning struck women but she had an attitude and stood alone even among her friends.  I had no idea how Carrie Ann Ryan was going to find a mate for her.  Especially after the events of the previous book (Tangled Innocence) that had Faith in a coma after receiving a mortal wound in battle which then forced the wizard, Levi Hughes, to bond with her to save her life even if she wasn’t aware to give consent.  Boy is he in for it.
Like the other books in this series Fierce Enchantment is a fun sexy romp wrapped up in a fairy tale. I thoroughly enjoyed it.  Although you could read this as a standalone, it is better to read the series in order.

Bound in Paradise by Tilly Greene

Blurb:
Mike Kane is a multiple world champion surfer who everyone watched get chomped by a shark. He rides big waves and is a well tattooed hunk into BDSM, so why did the love of his life leave him high and dry?

Mary Miller is a beloved television star who takes what’s going to be thrown away and makes them new and useful again. Unfortunately, she’s an emotional mess after breaking up with him, immediately regrets her decision and tries to make things right again.

The tattooed retired surfer and daytime TV star are superficial opposites, yet perfect for each other. They live in paradise and it isn’t easy on them. Their love must stand up to the strain of a public-relations nightmare if they have any hope of making their relationship work.

Mistakes are made and they need privacy to fix things, but what about the media?

Note from Author: Bound in Paradise, previously titled Missing in Paradise, is a contemporary erotic romance + bondage, toys and jewelry, is 27,000 words and this is its second release.

My review:
You have to watch out for the quiet ones.  Good girl workaholic TV star Mary Miller enjoys her kink with bad boy former surfing champion Mike Kane.  They have been seeing each other secretly (her choice) for a year when the stress gets to her and she breaks up with him over the phone while he is stuck in NY due to a blizzard.  She doesn’t take his calls and he has no idea why.  After being apart for a week or two Mary is a mess and realizes she made a mistake she needs to go to Mike and explain.
And then this book gets smoking so if you aren’t into a long weekend with lots of kinky sex, making love and sexy body jewelry don’t read this book because getting back together has never been this hot.  But will they be able to take their relationship into the future?
I didn’t like Mary at first but she grew on me.  This was a totally fun/super hot Hollywood read.

One Night of Pleasure (Take a Chance Book 5) by Caridad Piñeiro

Blurb:
Number 5 in the Take a Chance Erotic Military Romance series

She wasn’t the kind of woman who wore fancy dresses or did one night stands . . .

Bridget Sullivan preferred her Army uniform and work boots to elegant evening gowns. Getting all done up for some fancy Memorial Day gala wasn’t in her plans, but it’s hard to resist the thought of seeing handsome retired Navy Captain Mark Smith again. It also means spending time with the cadre of ex-military friends who have made her return to civilian life a little easier to handle. But when Mark presses for more, will she break her rigid rules for one sexy night?

The only thing he likes better than a woman in uniform is seeing her out of it . . .

Especially if it’s sexy Staff Sergeant Bridget Sullivan. Since meeting Bridget a month earlier, Mark Smith has been attracted to the gorgeous woman who seems intent on hiding her beauty and her courage. Bridget’s determination to make it in a usually male world, from her choice of the Army to her current construction job, intrigues Mark. When Bridget sheds her muddy jeans and sneakers for sexy high heels and a slit-to-there dress, Mark is more than willing to help her explore her new feminine side. But can one night of pleasure lead to more?

My review:
Caridad Piñeiro does it again!  Each book in this series can be read standalone and has its own HEA with no cliff hangers.  Each book is hotter than the last.  In One Night of Pleasure we meet two former military trying to make a go of it after serving.  Helping folks recently separated from the military is retired Navy Captain Mark Smith’s avocation. When he meets Staff Sergeant Bridget Sullivan again at a fund raising gala he is determined to give her One Night of Pleasure that he hopes will turn into many many more.  This is a quick read that is a lot of fun but touches on some serious issues.  Totally worth the read.

If she can remain unBound, Leila's curse will soon be over. But Ozan Sawyer, a Magi with the ability to See, Call, and Bind jinn has other plans.
Oz needs Leila to help him penetrate Pittsburgh's steel-soaked magic, a juice potent but poisonous to supernatural creatures, in order to find a missing girl with her own mysterious connection to Kouros. Unfortunately for Leila, becoming Bound to Oz may risk more than just her chance to be human once more—it could risk her very soul...

My review:
I am always looking for something different. This is a different kind of love story.  Jinn and Juice introduces you to a whole world of paranormal characters including those that are misfits like Leila a human cursed to be a Jinni for a thousand years unless she is bound when the time is up then she will be cursed for another thousand years etc.  Needless to say Leila doesn’t have the best attitude but she is unbound and her sentence is up in 35 days.  Or is she?  Enter our hero Ozan Sawyer, a Magi with the ability to See, Call, and Bind jinn, who is on a quest and needs Leila’s help willing or not.
I had a bit of trouble getting started (mostly because of Leila’s attitude) but then got sucked in and couldn’t put it down.  This is a terrifically scary and wonderful world.  I was a little put out by the ending but will race to buy the next book if only to see what happens next.

Big Bad Billionaire (The Woolven Secret Book 1) by Saranna DeWylde

Blurb:
Blake Woolven is the bad boy CEO of Woolven Industries, but he’s badder than the luscious, BBW Randi Rutger would’ve guessed. After Woolven took down her father’s company and devoured it like a shaking rabbit, she’s determined to get close to him and make all the Woolvens pay for destroying her father. Blake knows Randi’s agenda, but the wolf inside him will do anything to have her. Even expose the Woolven family secret. When Randi sees Blake and his brothers shed their skins beneath the moon, she’s terrified. But it’s just what she needed to bring him low—that and the silver nitrate plasma gun her father designed. With her loyalties torn, Randi must choose between avenging her father and the big bad wolf who clawed his way into her heart.

My review:
What is hotter to Blake Woolven, CEO of Woolven Industries and Alpha to his pack than the hot Amazon that barges into his office and informs him she is going to bring him down?  Absolutely nothing.  That she is his future mate is just icing on the cake.  Now all he has to do is prove to Randi Rutger that he didn’t kill her father, keep her from killing him, and prove that they are meant to be together. Oh and stop a war if possible.
As you can see this book has a lot going on and it is a fun ride.  The characters leap off the page and into your heart.  I love that Randi didn’t just fall into Blake’s arms she made him work for it.  Also I think I may have drooled over the cover just a bit.  And what’s more is that the author has more coming in this series and I cannot wait.

Every Breath You Take (Jensen Murphy, Ghost for Hire #3) by Chris Marie Green

Blurb:

The author of the Vampire Babylon series and Only the Good Die Young presents another ghost story...

Ever wonder what happens after you die? Well, as a ghost, Jensen Murphy could tell you—and the truth is much stranger than anything you could imagine…

I never accomplished much when I was alive. As an average eighties California beach bum, I, Jensen Murphy, didn’t have any direction. But since I’ve joined Boo World, I’ve found a calling. Now, I’m a supernatural investigator, using my ghostly skills to spook confessions out of bad guys.

But being a paranormal PI is taking its toll. Spirits are hounding me for justice day and night, and, now, a ghost hunting TV show is digging up dirt on my unsavory demise that I’d rather keep buried. Worst of all, a seriously evil specter is making my afterlife hell by hurting the people and ghosts I care about. To stop him, I’ll need assistance from a higher power—only the price I’ll have to pay for that help could be my very soul…

My review:

Not your average ghost story.  In this book we are taken for a not stop ride filled with thrills, chills and huge surprises.  Jensen is going to finally solve her own murder but at what cost to her friends both human and spectral.  Plus we finally get to find out what/who fake Dean is.  This is a well written, fast paced, super fun read.  I recommend reading the first two books (Only The Good Die Young & Another One Bites the Dust) before reading this as you will better understand what is going on and who everybody is and because they are really good.

Lisa: April (Mystic Zodiac, #4) by Brandy Walker

Blurb:
A bet between Eros, the God of love & desire, and Chloe (Chlotho), the Fate of birth, leads to a year filled with matchmaking and passion.

~~~~~
For three years Lisa Cannon has been at Jack Morgan’s every beck and call. As his executive personal assistant it’s in the job description, except she’s beginning to think she’s gone above and beyond the call of duty. She hasn’t had time off in so long she’s pretty sure her nymph side is dying a slow death inside. After arranging for a week away, she’s set to feed her nymph with every sexual fantasy that comes to mind. If they happen to all revolve around the man who keeps her tied to her desk, that’s all for the better.
Jack knows he shouldn’t do it but does anyway. He cancels his assistant’s vacation…again. He can’t stand the thought of her unleashing her nymph side on anyone but him. Over the past three years he’s slowly fallen in love with the petite beauty that keeps his personal and professional life running smoothly.
When Lisa goes on vacation anyway, Jack knows there’s only one thing to do. He needs to find a way into the Mystic-only club and claim the woman who has stolen his heart.
NOTE: Mystic Zodiac is a 12 book series. Each book ends in a happily ever after for the main couple. However, the prologue and epilogue of each story follows the Gods that kick off the series, Eros and Chlotho (aka Chloe). At the end of the series the bet between the two will come to a conclusion.
My review:
April is the hottest month yet in Brandy Walker’s fun new story.  Lisa is a nymph.  She loves sex but that isn’t all she is.  She has been repressing her nymph side so folks will take her seriously.  It doesn’t hurt that she works and fantasizes about Jack Morgan but there is this pesky no fraternization rule.  But when he keeps canceling her vacations so she can work him out of her system she is about to go out of her mind.
This is the couple that Eros wants Chloe to put together.  Knowing that sex isn’t love means she may have to call in favors and pull out all the stops to get these two together.
There is a water scene you won’t soon forget.  It is fun watching these two get together.
