Blood Vows (The Arsenal Book 3) by Cara Carnes

Blurb:
He’s sworn to find his son.

Dallas Mason did whatever was necessary to survive his stint in black ops. While in the Collective, there was no line he wouldn’t cross, and no mission he wouldn’t take. He bedded the enemy to secure his freedom and return to his brothers and build a new life, where the lines between right and wrong are sometimes blurred, but never erased. Now he and everyone at The Arsenal has one mission: find his son. His family and team will stop at nothing to achieve the goal—including sidelining Dallas from the hunt.

She’s sworn to find her father’s killer.

Kamren Garrett learned to rely on no one long ago. Surrounded by enemies, and surviving in hostile territory is nothing new for her. She can outshoot, outhunt, and out track anyone. She doesn’t need a Mason dictating what she can and can’t do to uncover the secrets of her father’s death. Dallas thinks she’s the problem. She doesn’t have time to handle him. She’s close to identifying her quarry. Unfortunately, she discovers she’s over her head and in need of help and she turns to the last person she ever wanted to ask—Dallas Mason.

Forced to take a step back from his true objective, Dallas sets his sights on fixing the problems threatening his son’s future home. Teamed with Kamren, he’ll uncover more than they expected. Failure isn’t an option when it comes to blood vows.

My review:
Blood Vows is an emotional rollercoaster guaranteed to make you laugh, cry and sigh. Dallas Mason recently found out he had a son. But the person who told him died before giving him a precise location and he and the folks at Arsenal are determined to find him. Meanwhile things in the next town over are heating up and baby sister Riley is being harassed which will never do. And last but not least Kamren Garrett pulls a super hero move right outside the gates of Arsenal and intrigues them all especially Dallas.
Kamren”s story will tear you up as will DJ & TJ’s. You have been warned. But it makes for a happier ending. This book can be read standalone but will be better if you’ve read Jagged Edge (The Arsenal #1) and Sight Lines (The Arsenal Book 2). This one kept me up reading way past my bedtime.

Cocky Shot ~ An Off Ice Novella by Bianca Sommerland

Blurb:
Scott Demyan, one of the most polarizing players on the Dartmouth Cobras hockey team, has grown a lot over the past few years. He’s a family man. A father. A dedicated player. He’s become someone to look up to…
But he’s still part of the Trouble Triplets. And behaving can get boring.
What better way to spice up the summer than to take the rivalry developing with the team ‘rookies’ to the next level. A few harmless pranks should keep things interesting.
Until what started as a joke gets a bit…cocky.
In the most literal sense of the word.
When the conflict draws the attention of not only upper management, but the media, the consequences could impact the coming season. And the life he’s worked so hard to build. Can he take the lead and remind the men the games they play off the ice don’t change where they stand as a team? Prove to those he loves that he hasn’t forgotten what’s really important?
He has one chance to repair the damage he’s done.
And it’s going to leave a mark.

My review:
Here hold my beer… how many pranks is too many? When one summertime prank goes over the line the team isn’t the only one getting hurt.
When you use bad judgement punishment follows. Scott isn’t a submissive but he takes his punishment and he is going to remember it for a long time.
I really enjoyed exploring this side of the Trouble Triplets. As with the others in this series this book is so hot you would think the ice would melt.

Hex U: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy (Tales from the Paranormal Plantation Book 3) by Melanie James

Hex U: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy (Tales from the Paranormal Plantation Book 3) by Melanie James

Blurb:
What does the Witches Union do with underperforming, socially awkward and mistake-prone young witches like Gertie and her friends? Send them away to college, of course.
Leaving the Paranormal Plantation, Gertie finds herself living in a strange new world—college. With two witchy classmates stumbling along with her, the trio learns about football players, fraternity parties, social activists, and even a few new spells.
After investigating a mysterious campus legend, it turns out that writing papers and staying awake through lectures aren’t the only challenges college life brings. Vampires, devil worshipping cronies, and a hungry dragon are just a few of the complications Gertie and her friends must face.
Meanwhile, Gertie has to come to grips with the dilemma created by her unrequited love for her best friend, along with her love for her boyfriend. It seems decisions of the heart are more difficult than any college exam.

My review:
Hex U or Gertie goes to college is a zany, sexy romp guaranteed to make you giggle and sweat. This fun story will keep you entertained from the first page until the last.

Then There Were Nun (Nun of Your Business Mysteries Book 1) by Dakota Cassidy

Blurb:
My name is Sister Trixie Lavender, and I was once a devoted nun. That is until I did something unspeakable and was banned from my convent forever. Something I had no control over. Something that incessantly haunts me—lives inside me to this day.

But everything’s mostly okay now.

I have an amazing friend named Coop, the demon who saved me from an ugly demise. And while she's not exactly gifted in the art of social graces, she’s loyal and her heart, despite her demon status, is pure. She’s also a gifted tattoo artist and together with my designs, we’re opening our tattoo shop, Inkerbelle’s, right in the heart of downtown Portland, Oregon.

And everything’s going to be fine. Just fine… Well, I guess it will be fine if we can just get rid of the evil spirit possessing me and figure out who killed our new landlord right under our very noses!

This new cozy mystery series from USA Today bestselling cozy mystery author Dakota Cassidy is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat as Trixie and Coop hunt for a killer. Then There Were Nun is book 1 in the all new, Nun of Your Business series.

My review:
Then There Were Nun is a sweet and funny start to a new cozy mystery series.  We met former nun Trixie Lavender and Coop in Good Witch Hunting (Witchless In Seattle #7) now they have landed in Oregon and are just trying to start over.  Sadly it seems they still have no luck when it comes to landlords on the other hand they pick up an assortment of quirky friends which comes in handy when you are dealing with a murder, possession and teaching demons to assimilate. I look forward to further adventures from the Inkerbelle’s crew.

SEAL with a Past (SEALs of Coronado Book 5) by Paige Tyler

Blurb:
His past came knocking…
The last person Navy SEAL Dalton Jennings standing at his door was the woman who dumped him five years ago without any explanation. Nothing! Now she’s back, and the secret she reveals is enough to bring Dalton to his knees. Someone has kidnapped their daughter—a child he never knew existed—and he will have to break every SEAL code he’s sworn to uphold and steal government property to find his little girl.

And offered a whole new future...
Kimber Grant has put off this meeting for five years. Cowardly, yes, but how do you tell the man you deserted he has a child? Not to mention Kimber never stopped loving Dalton. Now she’s desperate for his help. After all, who better to carry out a convert mission than a SEAL? The kidnappers want a computer chip developed by her boss for the Dept. of Defense, and they will kill anyone who gets in the way. Including Kimber.

When she's taken, Dalton realizes he’s got two girls who have his heart—Kimber always has. And he’ll be damned if greed is going to take either away from him now that he’s got them back.

My review:
A SEAL, a secret baby and a second chance at love if Dalton can keep them alive. Lots of action and fun. I will admit that as much as I liked Dalton and Kimber it was Werewolf SWAT loving, monkey naming Emma that stole my heart. SEAL with a Past isn’t rocket science but it is a fun, check your brain at the door, sweet and sexy read.

Magnolia Mystic (Sentinels of Savannah #1) by Lisa Kessler

Blurb:
Skye Olson is a psychic like her mother, and her grandmother before her, but a bad break up with the man she thought was her soulmate has left her confidence in her abilities shaken. While she's in crisis, a real estate tycoon from Atlanta swoops in with his eyes on her shop.

Colton Hayes spent his mortal life plundering royal ships with his pirate crew, but one holy relic changed everything. Now he and the rest of the crew protect the port of Savannah from their captain who traded his cutlass for a fountain pen.

When Colton discovers the captain wants to build a hotel in the heart of historic Savannah, he sets out to stop him, but nothing could prepare him for the violet eyes of the Magnolia Mystic.

Love is a dangerous game for a pirate.

My review:
Actions have consequences. Colton Hayes spent his mortal life plundering royal ships with his pirate crew until he and his crew steal an object that curses them with immortality. Sure it gives you time to build a fortune and learn new and wonderful things but what is life without love? When psychic Skye Olson becomes a bone of contention between Colton (he wants her as a woman) and the captain (he wants her property) maybe she will end up being their redemption. A sweet fun escape that will leave you longing for the high seas.

One Wedding, Two Brides (Fairy Tale Bride) by Heidi Betts

Blurb:
Jilted bride Monica Blair can’t believe it when she wakes up next to a blue-eyed, smooth-talking cowboy in the middle of nowhere and with a ring on her finger. It had sounded like a great plan at the time. Get married, get revenge, and get her money back. So why is she cleaning out stables and trying to keep her hands off the hot cowboy helping her?
Ryder Nash would have bet his best Stetson that you’d never see him walk down the aisle. But when the city girl with pink-streaked hair and a frog tattoo hatches a plan to expose the conman who married his sister, no idea is too crazy. And even though Monica might be the worst rancher’s wife he’s ever seen, he can’t stop thinking about the wedding night they never had.
What was supposed to be a temporary marriage for revenge is starting to feel a little too real...

My review:
Sweet, silly and sexy this story hits all the right notes. Jilted bride, country mouse/city mouse fake husband and still there are surprises. I thoroughly enjoyed this romantic romp.

Full House (The Drift #4.5) by Susan Hayes

Blurb:
Opportunity doesn’t always knock. Sometimes, it crash lands.

A veteran of the Resource Wars, Raze is a cyborg with a simple plan. He wants to be left alone, forever.

Planetary scout Sevda Rem is light-years from civilization when her ship is damaged, forcing an emergency landing on an unoccupied planet. At least, it was supposed to be unoccupied …

He’s trespassing on a corporate-owned planet. She’s duty bound to report him. The deck is stacked against them, but if they play their cards right, they might discover that together they hold a winning hand.

My review:
Raze is a cyborg, a veteran, and a survivor. He just wants to be left alone. He is the sole inhabitant of his little planet and he likes it that way…until she comes. She is a scout trying to buy her way out of debt and the corporation is going to want Raze’s little planet almost as much as she wants him.
Full House is a fun story of two souls perfect for each other if they could only stop fighting long enough to figure it out. I felt so much for these characters.

Untamed (Feral Bonds Book 1) by Bianca Sommerland

The struggle to save the man who claims Zaire’s heart tests their newly formed bond. And proves there’s nothing Zaire won’t do for him.

Only, sharing him might be an issue.

While on a mission to retrieve a runaway wolf cub, Zaire and Lathan come across a beautiful, fierce young woman, Embry CaelitÄ“s, who watches over the child with all the instincts of a mare guarding her foal. Separating the two is impossible, and Embry possesses powers that can help Lathan tame his beast. Unfortunately, Zaire and Embry are like oil and water, clashing at every turn. All they have in common is how much they’re willing to sacrifice for the ones they love.

Surrendering to the wild passion of the animal within, Zaire’s tempered connection with Embry grows, but will it be enough as Lathan’s very existence proves too great a risk for any peaceful pack to take? As Embry’s past closes in on her, and their little cub faces the danger she tried to escape, will love be enough to keep them all alive?

My review:
Fantastic!  I adore Ms. Sommerland’s hockey books and was tickled to see her spread her wings with this paranormal.  I think that werepanther or goalie the author gets into the characters mindset and makes you feel what they do. I know for certain that was the case with this story. I love how she doesn’t make the ménage an instant success.  I truly love the little alpha cub Livvie. Sometimes kids see truth easier than adults. Like much of my favorite sf/fantasy there is so much substance and substory in this story that I know I will be reading this again and again to get it all.

Blurb:
Following the USA Today bestselling author of Lost and Found Sisters comes Jill Shalvis' moving story of heart, loss, betrayal, and friendship

Six months after Lanie Jacobs’ husband’s death, it’s hard to imagine anything could deepen her sense of pain and loss. But then Lanie discovers she isn’t the only one grieving his sudden passing. A serial adulterer, he left behind several other women who, like Lanie, each believe she was his legally wedded wife.

Rocked by the infidelity, Lanie is left to grapple with searing questions. How could she be so wrong about a man she thought she knew better than anyone? Will she ever be able to trust another person?  Can she even trust herself?

Everything is finally going well for her, but the arrival of River Brown changes all that. The fresh-faced twenty-one-year old seems as sweet as they come…until her dark secrets come to light—secrets that could destroy the new life Lanie’s only just begun to build.

My review:
Rainy Day Friends is a sweet and heartwarming story of two women hurt by the same man in different ways and finding a new beginning. Lanie was raised in an emotionally closed home and then cheated on by her husband. She has convinced herself she gets love wrong so she isn’t going to go there again. Mark had his life turned upside down when his wife left him to raise twins on his own he between the girls and his job he refuses to love again. HAH! That is just a dare to the gods of love and when these two finally figure it out your heart will smile. Another hit from Jill Shalvis.

Strength Enduring (Talon Pack #8) by Carrie Ann Ryan

Blurb:
In the penultimate novel of the Talon Pack series from NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan, an Enforcer must make the ultimate choice when it comes to a human woman with a secret she doesn't know she holds.

Kameron Brentwood has only one thing on his mind: defeating the enemy. He doesn't have time for a human woman who sets his teeth on edge and makes his wolf prowl. It shouldn't matter that she's his mate because he's always thought that mating is a distraction. Yet as soon as he gets to know the woman, he figures out that there's no hiding from the attraction he feels for her.

Dhanielle Coburn has always been on the outside looking in when it comes to the Talon Pack, but she's not about to let fate and the moon goddess decide her path for her. If and when she takes Kameron as a mate, it will be her choice. Yet when she suddenly finds herself in the Pack's inner sanctum, deeper than she ever thought possible, she has to fight not only her need for the man in front of her but also a hidden secret about her family she didn't even know she had.

When the choice is pulled from both of their hands, the two will need to learn who they are apart, and who they can be together. Because there's more to mating than a mark and a prophecy that has come back to haunt them. And even though they may be fated, the ultimate sacrifice just might take them both in the end.

My review:
Wolf shifter and Pack enforcer Kameron Brentwood doesn’t want to want Dhanielle Coburn. A mate would be a distraction from his keeping the Pack secure. Schoolteacher Dhani knows she might be Kameron’s mate but isn’t thrilled with the idea of becoming a wolf. Circumstances keep throwing them together so they agree to take things slow until they are forced not to. The tension in this book will keep you on the edge of your seat. I loved Dhani being in her head was a trip. As with the others in this series this book is filled with action and love.

Kill The Farm Boy (The Tales of Pell #1) by Kevin Hearne

Blurb:

In an irreverent new series in the tradition of Terry Pratchett novels and The Princess Bride, the New York Times bestselling authors of the Iron Druid Chronicles and Star Wars: Phasmareinvent fantasy, fairy tales, and floridly written feast scenes.

Once upon a time, in a faraway kingdom, a hero, the Chosen One, was born . . . and so begins every fairy tale ever told.

This is not that fairy tale.

There is a Chosen One, but he is unlike any One who has ever been Chosened.

And there is a faraway kingdom, but you have never been to a magical world quite like the land of Pell.

There, a plucky farm boy will find more than he's bargained for on his quest to awaken the sleeping princess in her cursed tower. First there's the Dark Lord who wishes for the boy's untimely death . . . and also very fine cheese. Then there's a bard without a song in her heart but with a very adorable and fuzzy tail, an assassin who fears not the night but is terrified of chickens, and a mighty fighter more frightened of her sword than of her chain-mail bikini. This journey will lead to sinister umlauts, a trash-talking goat, the Dread Necromancer Steve, and a strange and wondrous journey to the most peculiar "happily ever after" that ever once-upon-a-timed.

My review:
FANTASTIC! This book had me laughing, giggle-snorting and just downright enjoying. If you took Shrek, Monty Python and Fractured Fairytales added copious amounts of alcohol and shook well this is what would have spewed out.
Many fantastic stories start with what if… The authors of Kill The Farm Boy started with what if instead of… and nailed each trope to the wall and remade it into a whole new image. No blonde haired, blue eyed, square jawed perfect hero in this tale; well okay there is one but…
If you are out for a good time, quirky characters, action, adventure, and a not-quite-dead wanna be hero, read this book.
Warning: You will laugh out loud possibly annoying neighbors and may accidentally douche your nose if you drink and read at the same time. You have been warned.

This story left me with the feel good awwws.
