Wolf Rising (SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team #8) by Paige Tyler

Blurb:
Werewolf SWAT Officer Jayden Brooks has yet to meet The One—but when he rescues teacher Selena Rosa from a hostage situation at her high school, he knows he’s in trouble. Her scent is irresistible.

There’s a reason for that powerful scent—and it isn’t an expensive perfume. Thanks to the traumatizing events at the school, the werewolf gene flipped on and Selena’s going through the change. Even scarier, she’s on track to become an omega—an out-of-control and violent breed. It’s going to take everything Brooks has if he wants any chance to pull her back from the edge…and ultimately win her heart.

My review:
Strap yourself in for a fast paced read filled with action, adventure and romance. Werewolf SWAT Officer Jayden Brooks is smoking hot! Selena Rosa teaches at a high school in a bad part of town. She is caring and committed to her students. The gangs have stolen her family she will be damned if she gives up on her students. This inevitably leads to Selena and Jayden meeting and it is pure adrenaline after that. A terrific addition to the series.

The Long Paw of the Law (Paw Enforcement #7) by Diane Kelly

Blurb:
Texas police officer Megan Luz and her K-9 partner Brigit have come a long way, baby.

A BUNDLE OF JOY. A DOG-EAT-DOG WORLD. . .

One night, while on duty with her four-legged crime-fighting companion, Meg gets an urgent call from her boyfriend Seth, who works for the Fort Worth fire department. A baby girl has turned up at the station with only two clues to her identity: One is a peace-sign symbol stitched into her blanket. The other is a word, written in string: help.

Megan follows every loose thread and, along with Brigit, ends up on a twisted path that leads to the People of Peace compound, the site of a religious sect on the outskirts of the city. Its leader, Father Emmanuel, keeps his followers on a short leash—and his enemies even closer. Could this be the abandoned baby’s original home? And if so, why was she cast out? Now that Megan and Brigit are on the case, the secrets of this reclusive cult are bound to be dug up. . .

My review:
Texas police officer Megan Luz and her K-9 partner Brigit are back in one of my favorite cozy mystery series. In this installment Megan and Brigit are dealing with two cases. One is a string of burglaries and the other is a baby dropped off at the fire station.  Megan is determined to find out why the baby’s blanket had the word help stitched on it. This story takes us on a twisted path and leads us to some dangerous places but Megan and Brigit are on the case.
I really love this series and eagerly await each new installment. The Long Paw of the Law does not disappoint.

Black Hollow: Finding Her Fire (The Drakki Chronicles Book 1) by Gracen Miller

Blurb:
Marked for death…

Ashe wanted more from life than a simple existence of sunbathing and luring seamen to their island to mate. The monotony of that scenario wasn’t for her, so once she left the haven of those sandy shores, she put all her effort into becoming a legend… a fable to be feared. The monster in the dark, the ghoul that’ll snap your neck before you feel her breath on your ear. She’s no saint and doesn’t want to be one. In fact, breathing fear into others is a powerful aphrodisiac.

…Tobias should’ve been an easy kill.

Tobias Drakki is the head of the Drakki empire, specializing in rare ice-blue diamonds. Everyone wants a cut of his diamond mine, but few know he’s crucial to its success. His word is law. His commands followed with swift speed. His wealth so large all of the Drakki family enjoys prosperity and he’s doesn’t doubt their loyalty. But with that type of fortune and power comes envy, greed, and enemies.

With his forehead in the crosshairs of her scope…

Tobias Drakki is as guilty as all her other hits, so when Ashe is offered millions to assassinate him, she takes the job. This assignment should be a piece of cake, in and out, no one will notice she was ever there. But getting too cocky is the first crack in an assassin’s foundation.

…renowned assassin Asherah Stone wavered.

Ashe didn’t count on the way he made her feel from two miles out, or that she would hesitate to take the killing shot. The glint of her lens alerts Tobias to her position. That one mistake cost Ashe her freedom. This time the payout may be more than she bargained for.

It’s a costly oversight.

My review:
It doesn’t get much hotter than a dragon. In this sexy and fun read we get to see a sizzling dragon find his mate in the Siren sent to assassinate him. The fiery redhead may just be a perfect foil for the workaholic dragon. I really enjoyed watching these two find each other.

Blurb:
Welcome to TSU After Dark...

As a new student at Turnskin University, she looked forward to her classes and a chance to join the new Co-ed Greek house she’d learned so much about while trying to find the right college for her.

Natasha isn’t royalty—she’d know if she was.

Yet, three men are about to rock her world and prove to her there is royal blood in her system. Whoever said college would be the best years of her life, obviously never met Natasha Nemescu.

My review:
m/m/m/f
Holy hotness! This book is sure to steam up your windows. Natasha is a little naïve for a 20 year old freshman but she gets up to speed quickly. If you offend easily this isn’t the book for you but if you don’t mind a bit of paranormal spice run don’t walk and get this book.

Expose (Club Phantasm book 3) by Dagmar Avery & K. Margaret

Blurb:
Harlow Athan knows it’s her turn when she locks eyes with her destiny over a bakery counter. Being the third demon to bond has its advantages as she has a clear-cut course to bonding and the eradication of the evil that is her sister.

Or does she?

Maddox Cooper is both enamored and enthralled by the sexy, curvy baker he sets eyes on at Reading Terminal Market. As a man living on borrowed time he has been frugal in his relationships, always keeping women at arm’s length for their own good, but this woman challenges all he’s ever known and makes him want a happily ever after.

But nothing is ever that simple. Not only is Harlow going to have to learn to trust and love, but Maddox is going to have to accept the world is bigger than South Philly. Or they might not make their forever a reality.

My review:
Expose may be my favorite in this series to date. The authors bend the rules in creative ways and I just love it. Harlow Athan is a water demon and as bad a$$ as they come. She is a fantastic baker. I think she is as surprised as we are to find her fated bond mate is a truly nice guy. I laughed out loud when I wasn’t sighing over Maddox. Truly a terrific read.

Shadow of the Coalition (The Omni Towers #2) by Jamie A. Waters

Blurb:
Only in the darkness can vengeance thrive…

It's been a month since Kayla, a headstrong ruin rat, and Carl, an OmniLab trader, returned to the surface. After she helped to restore control of the towers to those who would look after the best interests of the people, she'd found herself irrevocably bonded to Alec, the new co-leader of the High Council.

Caught between learning how to handle her new emerging abilities, mysterious earthquakes, and a strange group seemingly intent on targeting OmniLab, Kayla is once again swept up in events that threaten to change the entire future of the towers.

My review:
Sit down, strap in and enjoy the ride. Life has turned Kayla into a pinball bouncing from trouble to trouble. It’s a good thing she is smart and easy to love because it is all that’s keeping her alive. This exciting installment is even more intense than the first. I am off to get the next book as I need to know what is going to happen next.

Enter Hugh Donaldson who has reasons of his own for discovering the murderer. He’ll use everything in his power to achieve that, including lying to Andy about his past. Dangerous as he is attractive, his martial arts skills and his quirky ways raise Andy’s suspicions.

As clues disappear and the body count climbs, Andy and Hugh must trust each other and use their combined skills to bring the murderer to justice.

My review:
High energy suspense. This book takes you to dark places trying to solve a murder and a mystery. Andy is a kick butt investigative journalist but as bad a$$ as she is there are always folks bigger and badder. Enter an enigma of a man who fits the bill. He drives Andy nuts. Sometimes in a good way. This is the first I’ve read from this author but it won’t be the last. I truly enjoyed this exciting ride.

Loving a Santini (The Santinis, #11) by Melissa Schroeder

Blurb:
A Marine searching for serenity.
Fernando "Nando" Santini has a lot to live up to being the youngest in a family of Marines. He has only ever wanted to be a Marine, until his last deployment.  Since he returned, he's suffered from nightmares and sleeplessness that has him ready to try anything. When his cousin's wife suggests massage therapy, he jumps at the chance to try something new.

A woman who lives to heal others.
Sunshine Foster has always marched to the beat of her own drum.  Raised by a single mother, she's had her share of hardship and pain. She became a massage therapist and reiki master to help people heal, including quite a few military personnel suffering from PTSD.  Right from the start, she knows Nando is different from her other clients. She can't seem to keep a professional distance she's never had a problem with before him.

Almost immediately, Nando starts to realize that she is the woman for him. Sunshine has dealt with clients who fall in love with her before, but her feelings for Nando are far from normal. One kiss has her falling for him and soon, they are involved in a red hot affair. But Sunshine is keeping a big secret from Nando, one that could destroy their budding relationship. When it is revealed, he will just have to prove to her that once a Santini falls in love, there's no changing his mind...or his heart.

My review:
Hawaii seems to be very lucky for the Santini’s. Nando is the youngest of six and we’ve watched as his sister, brothers and cousins have found their soulmates. Now it’s his turn and this Marine has found his forever in Sunshine. She makes his days bright and his nights hot. I really love this series and was thrilled to see Nando find his happiness.

Single White Incubus (Supernatural Selection) by E.J. Russell

Blurb:
Does a bear shift in the woods?

Well, partially. That was what got grizzly shifter Ted Farnsworth into trouble. He wasn’t trying to break the Secrecy Pact. He just wants people to see the real him. So he signs up with the mate-matching service Supernatural Selection — which guarantees marriage to a perfect partner. Not only will Ted never be lonely again, but once his new beaver shifter husband arrives, they’ll build Ted’s dream wilderness retreat together. Win-win.

Quentin Bertrand-Harrington, scion of an incubus dynasty, has abstained from sex since nearly killing his last lover. When his family declares it’s time for him to marry, Quentin decides the only way not to murder his partner is to pick someone who’s already dead. Supernatural Selection finds him the ideal vampire, and Quentin signs the marriage agreement sight unseen.

But a mix-up at Supernatural Selection contracts Quentin with Ted. What’s Ted supposed to do with an art historian who knows more about salad forks than screwdrivers? And how can Quentin resist Ted’s mouthwatering life force? Yet as they work together to untangle their inconvenient union, they begin to wonder if their unexpected match might be perfect after all.

My review:
m/m
Single White Incubus is a sweet arranged marriage mix up that I just adored. Ted is a grizzly shifter and a good ol country boy. Quentin is an incubus from a prominent Boston family. As different as day and night neither was expecting the other. Watching them grow together despite their differences was serious fun.
This book is filled with moments that will make you say aww.

Until...

We either choose to live life in the present or dwell in the depths of the past.

The Exchange is a smart romantic mystery with a paranormal twist. After a slow start this story picked up steam and blows you away at the end. I listened to the audio version of this as I was exercising and it made my workouts fly.

Finding Their Rhythm: Prequel 1 of the Back on Track Series by J.C. Layne

Blurb:

Two young boys. A friendship that lasts a lifetime. A dream that they refuse to give up on.

Who would’ve thought that matching band t-shirts would be the beginning of a multi-decade friendship? That’s exactly what happened with Brett Winters and Mitch Lansing. From the time they met in middle school, the two were inseparable, quickly becoming more like brothers.

Fast forward a few years and no one gets them in their haughty Atlanta high school, so they spend their time with a few carefully chosen friends, bonding over stolen beer and their love of music. The boys dream of a life in rock n’ roll and their band, Peanuts Envy, is going to be their ticket to the big time.

Finally in college, the bond gets tested, girls get in the way, and they find themselves on different paths. What began as a childhood dream in a greasy car garage could end up being the very thing that will force them to part.

My review:
Finding Their Rhythm is a delightful story that had me running the full gamut of emotions. I laughed out loud, cried ugly tears, growled out  in anger and sighed in delight. I haven’t read the books that this is the prequel to but went out and purchased them as soon as I finished. This book can be read standalone but you are going to want more I know I did.

Torel: Star-Crossed Alien Mail Order Brides (Star-Crossed Alien Mail Order Brides #5) by Susan Hayes

Torel: Star-Crossed Alien Mail Order Brides (Star-Crossed Alien Mail Order Brides #5) by Susan Hayes

Blurb:
What do you do when your planet runs out of women? Send for takeout, of course.

Torel is the best medical officer in the Pyrosian fleet, but being the best comes with a cost. When the queen orders him to apply to Star-Crossed Dating, he’s relieved when there’s no match for him among the human females of Earth. He doesn’t have time for that kind of distraction.

Mated or not, he’s on his way to Earth to help newly-mated females adjust to the life awaiting them on Pyros. All he has to do is keep them healthy and happy during the voyage home. It should be the easiest assignment of his career.

This book contains a widow determined to never fall in love again, and a doctor who is about to discover that when it comes to the heart, he’s still got a lot to learn.

My review:

Sometimes love is the best medicine. Haley lost her husband to cancer and is afraid of facing that hurt ever again. She isn’t against getting a little something in the bedroom but is determined not to allow her heart to get involved. She never counted on Torel, doctor to the Pyrosian royals. Torel is committed to his job and his people and has no time for love. He never counted on Haley. These two were bound to be and it was fun watching them figure that out.

Tarjen: Star-Crossed Alien Mail Order Brides (Star-Crossed Alien Mail Order Brides #4) by Susan Hayes

Tarjen: Star-Crossed Alien Mail Order Brides (Star-Crossed Alien Mail Order Brides #4) by Susan Hayes

Blurb:
What do you do when your planet runs out of women? Send for takeout, of course.

Tarjen never expected to go to Earth again. The first time, he was there to protect Crown Prince Joran as he claimed his mate and returned her to Pyros. This time, Tarjen is on his way to claim a mate of his own.

He’s studied human courtship behaviour, memorized his match’s file from the Star-Crossed Dating database, and prepared himself for the moment he’ll meet his mate. He’s planned everything perfectly so that nothing can go wrong. Not like the last time they were here…

This book contains a single mother who doesn’t believe in happy endings and a royal bodyguard who does everything by the book – until the universe blows up the book, his plans, and part of a city block.

My review:
A soldier plans for all contingencies so when Tarjen finds his match in a human woman he plans to woo and win her. He no sooner lands on Earth when all his plans go up in smoke and he will have to win Aria the old fashioned way. This is a fun addition to the series.

The Last Sword Maker (The Course of Empire Series) by Brian Nelson

Blurb:
In the high mountains of Tibet, rumors are spreading. People whisper of an outbreak, of thousands of dead, of bodies pushed into mass graves. It is some strange new disease … a disease, they say, that can kill in minutes.

The Chinese government says the rumors aren’t true, but no one is allowed in or out of Tibet.

At the Pentagon, Admiral James Curtiss is called to an emergency meeting. Satellite images prove that a massive genocide is underway, and an American spy has made a startling discovery. This is no disease. It’s a weapons test. Chinese scientists have developed a way to kill based on a person’s genetic traits. But that is only the tip of the iceberg. The success of their new weapon proves that the Chinese are nearing “Replication”—a revolutionary breakthrough that will tip the global balance of power and change the way wars are waged.

Now the US must scramble to catch up before it is too late. Admiral Curtiss gathers the nation’s top scientists, including a promising young graduate student named Eric Hill who just might hold the missing piece to the replication puzzle. Soon Hill and his colleague Jane Hunter are caught up in a deadly game of sabotage as the two nations strive to be the first to reach the coveted goal. But in their headlong race, they create something unexpected … something the world has never seen and something more powerful than they had ever imagined.

The Last Sword Maker is an exciting globe-trotting thriller with unforgettable characters that depicts a haunting vision of the future of warfare.

My review:
The Last Sword Maker is a terrific techno-thriller that will keep you thinking long after the last page. With today’s ever increasing dependency on technology to keep us safe Brian Nelson asks the question what happens when nanotechnology becomes independent of man? The Last Sword Maker gives us a scary possible scenario that will keep you flipping pages and up long past your bedtime.

Unhallowed Murder: A Murder-Mystery Romance (Chattanooga Supernaturals #8) by Candace Blevins

Blurb:
It’s Halloween night and the Haunted Corn Maze is a madhouse. However, no one knows one of the zombies in the diorama is a dead body. There’s a reason it looks so real.

Lieutenant Veronica Woods is dressed as a Power Ranger, as are her four friends, enjoying the frights and scares in the chill autumn air. Ronnie is a tiger-shifter, and her sense of smell points her to the body, but there’s no logical reason for her to climb the small hill and traipse through the display. At least, not until she scents a group of vampires, and she bullies and coerces one of them into helping her report the crime so she can begin her investigation.

Josef is an ancient vampire with a military mindset. He was a general in his human life, and now he’s head of security for one of the most powerful vampires alive. He hasn’t had a personal relationship in decades, and has no interest in one, but the adorable little tiger shifter walks like a sex kitten and issues orders like a military general. Her people obviously respect her, and he finds he doesn’t want to leave her side when she’s ready to turn him loose.

NOTE: Unhallowed Murder can be read as a stand-alone.

My review:
I LOVED THIS STORY! This may be the most vanilla thing I’ve read from this author but that doesn’t make it any less sexy or fun to read. We have an interesting murder, an ancient vampire and a were tiger police lieutenant. This story is terrific and I can’t say much without spoilers but if you like strong women and smart men you will totally enjoy this. This story deals with the worst type of humans but the author adds in enough comic relief to keep it from being too dark.

Beneath the Fallen City (The Omni Towers #1) by Jamie A. Waters

Blurb:
In the shadows of the towers, your only hope is to scavenge for the truth...

One hundred and fifty years after the earth was ravaged by war, the two self-sustaining towers built by OmniLab continue to offer a safe haven for those who paid the hefty price to assure their family's survival. But on the surface, there are others who have survived over the years struggling to barter and trade artifacts found within the ruins of the crumbling cities in exchange for critical supplies.

When Kayla, a ruin rat skilled in computer hacking and scavenging, discovers a strange artifact known as The Aurelia Data Cube, she finds herself inadvertently caught up in a series of events that threatens the lives of the mysterious and elusive people within OmniLab.

Carl, an unorthodox trader with a head for business, is determined to eradicate the corruption amongst his OmniLab brethren and has no qualms about using Kayla to do it. Unfortunately, he wasn't counting on the vastness of the corruption or his own feelings for the headstrong woman who turns his life upside down.

Caught between the life she knew and a dangerous world that's claimed her as their own, Kayla learns the fearful truth behind just how far one man will go to obtain power and how far she'll go to survive.

My review:
Beneath the Fallen City is the first in what looks to be a terrific series. The author has created a vivid dystopian world with a class system, a strong heroine and a love triangle. I really liked Kayla she is smart, spunky and strong. I really enjoyed this story and am ready to dive into the next book.
