Reckless Honor (HORNET #5) by Tonya Burrows

Blurb:
Jean-Luc Cavalier has only ever cared about three things: sex, booze, and the dangerous missions he undertakes with HORNET. Laissez les bons temps rouler is more than a Mardi Gras motto—it’s the way he lives his life. But all that changes the night he rescues Dr. Claire Oliver from deadly mercenaries.

Now he can’t get the gorgeous blond virologist out of his head.

Claire is running for her life. Someone wants her antiviral research and they’re willing to kill anyone and everyone to get it. She has no one to turn to except a womanizing Cajun with a silver tongue and devastating smile.

But when an ultra-deadly virus decimates the Niger Delta, saving Claire and her research becomes the least of HORNET’s concerns. The virus has all the markings of a bioweapon and Nigeria is only the testing grounds…

My review:
I loved everything about this book but the cover. But that’s okay because I have been waiting for the Ragin’ Cajun Jean-Luc to get his story and now he has. Jean-Luc has always intrigued me. He is so smart and acts happy go lucky but believes he has been cursed by a Voodoo queen. But sick on his death bed the curse is apparently broken. I love that Dr. Claire Oliver sees through his bull and into the heart of him. These two go through hell and come out the other side. This story is sure to get your heartbeat racing.

When Bruce Met Cyn (Visitation, North Carolina #3) by Lori Foster

Blurb:
WHEN OPPOSITES ATTRACT . . .
Bruce Kelly has spent most of his life helping people who are down on their luck, guiding them toward making better lives. He understands that everyone makes mistakes, even if he's never actually done anything but color inside the lines. Nobody's perfect, but Bruce is about to meet a woman who's perfect for him, even though she's everything he's not. He's determined to show her he can be trusted. If that means being an absolute gentleman at all times, so be it. No matter how many cold showers it takes . . .

JUST GET OUT OF THE WAY
Cyn Potter is a survivor, with a sassy, gallows wit and a fierce independent streak to show for it. She's used to men wanting only one thing, and she's done with big bad wolves in sheep's clothing. But Bruce is different. Totally hands off. Sometimes she sees a hint of fire in his eyes, but he treats her with the respect she's always wanted. Yet, truthfully, he's a guy worth letting down a few defenses for . . . along with a few other things. Maybe somebody needs to help Bruce discover just how perfect being imperfect can be . . .

My review:
Small town romance big city problems. When Bruce Met Cyn is a sweet good guy/bad girl romance that I really enjoyed. Cyn has had it rough and is ready for a new start she puts a pin in the map and chooses Visitation, North Carolina. She meets Bruce on her way to Visitation when he saves her from being roughed up by the trucker she’d hitched a ride from. Bruce has to convince Cyn to leave the past in the past and to give him a shot at her future. I liked that Bruce was a good guy but not perfect. This is a total feel good story I highly recommend. Though part of a series it can be read standalone.

Don't Call Me Cupcake (The Holloway Girls #1) by Tara Sheets

Blurb:
There's a very special kind of sweetness to life on Pine Cove Island . . .

Most families have a favorite recipe or two, handed down through generations. The Holloway women are a little different. Emma Holloway, like her grandmother before her, bakes wishes into her delicious cupcakes, granting the recipient comfort, sweet dreams, or any number of good things. It's a strange gift, but it brings only happiness. Until gorgeous, smooth-talking newcomer Hunter Kane strolls into her shop, Fairy Cakes--and Emma makes the mistake of selling him not one, but three Sweet Success cupcakes.

Hunter, it turns out, is opening a fancy new restaurant and bakery right on the waterfront--Emma's competition. To make matters worse, the town committee has decided to split the upcoming summer festival contract between the two, forcing Emma to work with her nemesis. But she can't afford to split her profits. The solution: create a recipe that will make Hunter leave town permanently.

The Holloway charms are powerful. But there are other kinds of magic in the world--like red-hot first kisses, secret glances, and the feeling that comes with falling truly, madly, inconveniently in love . . .

My review:
Don't Call Me Cupcake is as sweet and magical as the icing on a cupcake. Emma Holloway is struggling to make ends meet. She bakes a little magic into every cupcake she makes but she needs a little magic in her life. When hunky Hunter Kane walks into her shop she thinks he may just be the magic her heart needs. That is until she finds out that he is opening a competing business. Will the Holloway magic be enough to keep her in business? Fans of Angie Fox and Jill Shalvis will love Don't Call Me Cupcake. Looking forward to Juliettes story.

Midnight Wolf (Shifters Unbound #11) by Jennifer Ashley

Blurb:
The eleventh novel in the New York Times bestselling paranormal romance series, Shifters Unbound.

Angus Murray, bouncer for a New Orleans Shifter bar, is sent to round up an elusive, Collar-less Shifter woman, Tamsin Calloway, who is causing trouble for Shifter Bureau, and possesses information they want. If Angus refuses, he risks losing his cub. He finds Tamsin but she's slippery and not about to be rounded up quietly.

In fact, quiet is nothing Tamsin will ever be. She leads Angus on a wild chase, but he's determined to bring her in to save his son.

Can Tamsin convince Angus she's worth helping before she's locked away by Shifter Bureau, Collared, or perhaps killed?

My review:
I loved single dad and wolf shifter Angus Murray but fox shifter Tamsin Calloway made this story sing for me. She is chipper even when the world is going to hell in a handbasket she creates her own happiness. You can’t help but love her and neither can Angus.
A fantastic addition to this terrific series.

But when the kidnappers make their move, he's got to turn that slow-burning passion into hard-hitting action - and save the life of the woman he loves.

My review:

Total Bravery takes us to a new crew in a new place and a new beginning for Raul and his K9 partner Taz. Like the others in this series there is action, adventure and love but this book ramps it up another notch. I love reading these books because it is obvious that the author has done her research. I love being transported to new places and cultures. A total vacation for the mind. Romantic suspense at it's very best.

Eyes of the Tiger by Patricia Rosemoor

Blurb:
Jewelry designer Gemma Hewitt has a gift. Gems and jewelry speak to her, which inspires her designs, and also sends her on dark adventures across the globe as she seeks out historic pieces. After her mother is brutally murdered, Gemma inherits her famed jeweled collar, which she hopes will lead her to see the face of her mother’s killer and bring him to justice. Instead, she's thrown back to 1901 India where she sees the young woman about to be married with a pendant that matches her jeweled collar. When she's hired to find the entire bridal suite, she hopes she can use the jewels to save her family's fortune. Can she trust the handsome, enigmatic man who promises to help her on her quest, or is he the one she should be running from?

British reporter/photographer Raj Sinclair wants the bridal suite for his own reasons. Attracted to Gemma, he senses a connection with her as if he’s known her for a very long time. When danger stalks her, he will do anything to protect her.

The treasure hunt takes them to cities from the US to Britain to France, ending in India where the bridal suite is finally rejoined... and three reincarnated souls get another chance to make things right.

My review:
Eyes of the Tiger is a different type of story than I usually read. Yes there is romance and mystery but there is also history. This is a reincarnation tale that takes us globetrotting to solve a wrong done over a hundred years ago to save a love and future in the present. It was all done very skillfully by the author and I loved taking the journey with Gemma and Raj. For something a little different with just a touch of spice I recommend Eyes of the Tiger.

Her Wicked Hero (Black Dawn Book 4) by Caitlyn O'Leary

Blurb:
ONE LOOK AND HE WAS HOOKED
A photograph. A feeling. A knowing. That’s all it took for Dante “Zed” Zaragoza to realize his fate was intertwined with a woman he’d never met. Now it was up to him to find Marcia Price and bring her home safely. Thankfully for Marcia he’s temporarily part of the Black Dawn SEAL team, who are on the hunt to locate eleven people whose yacht had gone missing in the South China Sea. A photograph means she’s alive…for now.

SHE NEEDED A HERO
Marcia Price realized she was in the hands of a monster as she was dragged deeper and deeper into the jungle. She wanted to give up so many times but dammit, no matter what, she would survive this even if it almost killed her. And maybe, just maybe, the universe would send her a hero.

HE’LL MOVE HEAVEN & EARTH
Zed’s blood turned to ice the moment he found out the history of the man who had Marcia in his grip. He wasn’t just a sociopath, he’d been trained as a SEAL. And that was only the beginning. Zed would need more than his standard bag of tricks if he and Marcia were going to get out of there alive…

My review:
Her Wicked Hero starts with a bang and goes from there to a rollercoaster ride of action, adventure and love. Marcia is smart and funny and stronger than she knows. She takes a licking and keeps on ticking. I would have been a blubbering pile of goo if I’d have gone through half of what this young woman did. This story was supposed to be about Navy SEAL Dante “Zed” Zaragoza but to me the real star was Marcia. The bad guy was a real shit and deserves everything he gets in the end. I really enjoyed this story.
This is part of a series but read fine standalone.

What to Expect When Your Demon Slayer is Expecting by Angie Fox

Blurb:
They say you can’t go home again, but demon slayer Lizzie Brown sure is going to try. However, when she rolls into town with her friends in tow, Lizzie finds her mom in the clutches of a demonic entity they accidentally left behind all those years ago. Now, it’s up to Lizzie, her talking dog, and the Red Skull biker witches to make things right.

With one tiny complication…

Lizzie is pregnant with Dimitri Kallinikos’ baby, and the shapeshifting griffin is hell bent on keeping her safe—at the risk of life, limb, and Lizzie’s sanity. Lizzie must fight for her child and her family, while battling dark spirits, demons, and morning sickness. And when a rival witch offers her unorthodox help, it opens up a whole new world of trouble.

My review:
Full disclosure – I LOVE THIS SERIES!
What to Expect When Your Demon Slayer is Expecting is the newest installment and does not disappoint. As I was reading this I kept thinking how much Lizzie has changed from the timorous pre-school teacher we met in The Accidental Demon Slayer but her good heart remains and she has grown in so many ways. This installment includes all our favorite biker witches, Pirate, Flappy, Lizzies parental units (well most of them) and the ever hunky Dimitri. Lizzie learns a new face of love in this hilarious episode and takes us along for the ride.

Mercy by Michelle Larkin

Blurb:
FBI Special Agent Mercy Parker has never shied away from a difficult case. But finding and stopping the man who plans on single-handedly annihilating the human race—armed only with her 9mm, integrity, and sense of humor—is definitely not in her job description. Perhaps it’s time to ask for some help.

Psychic ex-profiler Piper Vasey keeps everyone at arm’s length, but Mercy’s wit and selfless dedication to the greater good slowly break down Piper’s defenses. As their attraction for one another grows, they’re joined by an unlikely team of extraordinary people. Together, they embark on a race against time to recover a journal, a dog, and a kidnapped girl with unique psychic abilities.

There’s a slim chance they’ll succeed in saving the human race, but will it be enough to restore the balance between unseen forces of light and darkness that have plagued humankind for centuries?

My review:
Mercy by Michelle Larkin takes on the battle between good and evil with a twist. This story had a great cast of characters and keeps you wanting to know more. The pacing was spot on and I enjoyed every moment.  The bad guy was really bad and although the good guys had flaws they gave you hope. A terrific read.

Fallen Ink (Montgomery Ink: Colorado Springs #1) by Carrie Ann Ryan

Blurb:
The Montgomery Ink series continues with a spin-off in Colorado Springs, where a familiar Montgomery finds her place in a new tattoo shop, and in the arms of her best friend.

Adrienne Montgomery is finally living her dreams. She’s opened a tattoo shop with her brother, Shep, and two of her cousins from Denver and she’s ready to take the city by storm with her art—as long as she can handle the pressure. When her new neighbors decide her shop isn’t a great fit for the community, however, she’ll have to lean on the one person she didn’t expect to fall for along the way…her best friend.

Mace Knight takes pride in two things: his art and his daughter. He knows he’s taking a risk by starting over in a new shop with the Montgomerys, but the stakes are even higher when he finds himself wanting Adrienne more than he thought possible.

The two fall fast and hard but they know the rules; they can’t risk their friendship, no matter how hot it is between the sheets and how many people try to stand in their way.

My review:
Fallen Ink is a friends to lovers story that made my head spin. I sometimes wonder if authors delight in torturing their characters. Carrie Ann Ryan puts Mace and Adrienne through a whole bunch while working their way to their happily ever after. I really enjoyed this read even if I got whiplash from one thing happening after another. A wonderful beginning to this Montgomery Ink spin off.

Fearless Mating (A.L.F.A. #4) by Milly Taiden

Blurb:

Their jobs have set them at odds, but the attraction brewing between them is too strong to resist in this all-new paranormal romance from the author of Dangerous Mating.

Sergeant Major Candace Obermier has arrived at Alpha League Federal Agency headquarters with one task in mind--shutting it down. While A.L.F.A.'s pledge to protect humans from paranormal threats is noble, they've caused nothing but mayhem as far as Candy can tell. And their director? He's the worst of the lot.

Director Josh Tumbel has finally found his mate. And she's doing everything she can to shut down operations, while he struggles to control his mating instincts. But when A.L.F.A. headquarters is taken in a hostage situation, Josh has a chance to demonstrate the critical nature of the agency's existence, and prove his worth to Candy as a protector and lover.

My review:

Fearless Mating (A.L.F.A. #4) by Milly Taiden is the best in the series to date. Told with humor and female empowerment this paranormal romantic suspense kept me enthralled from the first page till the last. Josh and Candy are fun together. Though this is part of a series it can be read stand alone.

Locked in Stone (Phoenix Pack #2) by Sheri Lyn

Blurb:
Baine’s a survivor. First, his pack threw him out when he was barely old enough to fend for himself. Then he was thrown into some of the worst undercover assignments he could imagine. Just when he thought things were going well, he was kidnapped by a black magic witch. Now, he has to survive one last hurdle, but never would he ever thought it would come in the form of his mate.

Soren’s never known what it’s like to feel love. He was raised with the belief that his gargoyle was a monster. He’d locked himself away from the pain and humiliation he suffered as a child. He knew he could never be what his mate needed him to be, no matter what the town thought. His mate was better off alone, then shackled to his stone heart.

All hell breaks out when Gerri Wilder from the Paranormal Dating Agency decides to find Baine his mate. Now, Soren has to decide to step up to the plate or watch his mate find happiness with another.

My review:
Locked in Stone is an angsty m/m shifter romance that will have you wanting to beat in a certain gargoyles head that is when you aren’t wanting to cuddle him. Soren and Baine have each gone through their own separate hell. Soren thinks that makes him a bad bet for love. Baine needs his mate now more than ever. Can these two make each other whole again? I alternately wanted to laugh and cry at these guys but reading their story was well worth the ride.

Guarded Heart (Apocalypse Rising 3.5) by Dagmar Avery, K. Margaret

Guarded Heart (Apocalypse Rising 3.5) by Dagmar Avery, K. Margaret

Blurb:
Oliver Hopewell has it bad for Bailey Jameson, and the only cure is a commitment.

Dating for a little over two years, Oliver and Bailey have strict rules for their non- relationship. No sleepovers, no commitment and no catching feelings. What they share is something Oliver counts himself lucky to find, even if Bailey isn’t interested in saying to hell with the rules. Any time he can be with her, he is.

Bailey’s had a tough time of it though you would never know it. A woman with secrets, she’s content to be with Oliver, though things have been changing, and her rules aren’t as important as previously, that is until a vile part of her past comes calling.

And with that past comes changes, ones that are going to rock the foundations of their acquaintance, turning it into something eternal. Because secrets should be shared with the one you love.

My review:
Guarded Heart is about Oliver and Bailey two secondary characters in the Apocalypse Rising series. Both of these characters have stories we had no clue about and this book reveals that Oli is not just a young man with a horrible upbringing and Bailey is more than T&A and a smart assed bartender. This book may be short but it is packed with a hell of a story.

Destined for one another, Fiona, Gideon and Donovan succumb to their darkest desires and deepest needs. It’s going to take the three of them to keep the darkness at bay.

My review:

She knows it is doomed from the start.  Donovan has loved Fiona since they were kids and as her guard is determined to turn her visions around. These three get together and finally get it right.

What Are You Afraid Of? by Alexandra Ivy

Blurb:
SHE’S LEARNED ALL ABOUT KILLERS

They aren’t the kind of women anyone misses. Truck-stop hookers, runaways . . . no one would even notice they’d disappeared if the killer didn’t photograph their lifeless bodies, posed in the back of a semi-trailer. Exactly like the infamous Trucker murders. But this isn’t just a copycat. It’s a vendetta.

NOW HE’LL TEACH HER

Carmen Jacobs interviewed the world’s most terrifying serial killers for her bestselling book, The Heart of a Predator. The police might not believe her, but she knows there’s a monster out there, paying homage to other murderers. The only person who can predict where he’ll strike next is Griffin Archer—a reclusive software millionaire with ample reason not to help her.

HOW TO DIE . . .

Carmen has charmed her way past Griffin’s defenses before. He didn’t intend to let it happen again. But with a psycho sending her trophies of his kills, he has no choice but to get involved. The clues point to a killer obsessed with Carmen—someone who knows her work, her past, her secrets. Someone who won’t be satisfied until he has made all her deepest fears come true . . .

My review:
What Are You Afraid Of? Grabs you on the first page and doesn’t let you take a full breath till the last. This is an intense thriller that will keep you guessing. I really liked Carmen and Griff and had my fingers crossed the whole time praying they would make it out alive and with each other. This may be part of a series but can be read stand alone. I highly recommend this fast paced mystery.

Perfectly Pie-jacked: A Southern Witch novella by Kimberly Frost

Blurb:
Since Tammy Jo's last adventure in Casually Cursed, she's been living happily with no magical mishaps to speak of. Being held up on the side of the road and robbed of some freshly baked pies is the first indication that trouble is brewing again. If you're a Southern Witch fan, this short 10,000-word adventure will reveal how Tammy's life has changed. And how it's stayed the same.

My review:
This one is for the fans. Perfectly Pie-jacked is basically an epilog a short peak into Tammy Jo's life which is as zany as ever.  We get to see Tammy Jo, Bryn, Zach, Edie and others we have come to love throughout this series still having adventures. It was fun seeing my favorites again in this way to short story.

Bodhi and Emma aren’t the only ones in for a surprise. As the week’s events unfold, there is a pair of Rafertys ready to be introduced, and they have the ability to upstage them all.

My review:
Bearing It All is Bodhi and Emma’s story. I was thrilled when Bodhi finally got off his butt and did something about making Emma realize they were meant to be. I liked that Bodhi didn’t dismiss Emma’s self-esteem issues but rather tried to show her how fantastic she truly is. It was nice visiting Window Rock and seeing some of my favorite couples. The story was sweet and sexy fun.
