Indecent Proposal (Boys of Bishop #4) by Molly O'Keefe Review & Giveaway

Blurb:

Perfect for readers of Susan Mallery and Rachel Gibson, Molly O’Keefe’s gritty and sensual tale of passion and politics features the brother of the heroine from the author’s beloved novel,Never Been Kissed. He’s a driven man who refuses to be distracted—until he meets a beautiful bartender who just may change his life.

With his chiseled jaw and his thick blond hair, Harrison Montgomery was born to lead. Four generations of Montgomery men have served the state of Georgia and now he’s next in line. Harrison, though, is driven to right wrongs: namely to clean up the political mess left by his father’s greed and corruption. But Harrison must first win his congressional bid, and nothing can get in his way—not even an angel who served him whiskey and gave him a shoulder to lean on and a body to love for a night. Problem is, she’s pregnant. Scandal is brewing and there is only one solution: marriage.

Damage control? Ryan Kaminski can’t believe that a cold, calculating political animal now inhabits the body of the emotionally vulnerable stranger who’d given her the most unforgettable night of her life. Really, she doesn’t want anything from Harrison, except to be left alone to have her baby in peace. But Ryan is broke, jobless, and essentially blackmailed by Harrison’s desperate family to accept this crazy marriage deal. For two years, she will have to act the role of caring, supportive wife. But what is Ryan supposed to do when she realizes that, deep in her heart, she’s falling in love.

My review:
We met Ashley Montgomery’s brother, Harrison in Never Been Kissed (Boys of Bishop #2). So even if he isn’t exactly from Bishop he has ties there through Ashley and Brody.  That being said this book can be read stand-alone.
After a one night stand Ryan ends up pregnant with Harrison’s baby.  She didn’t know he was running for congress and he didn’t know she was pregnant until her brother informed him.  Now he isn’t sure what to think.  To save his campaign he makes Ryan an indecent proposal. Marry him and he will provide for her and the baby and pay off her debts.  Love was never in the deal.  Indecent Proposal is a story that brings together two souls from disparate backgrounds that might just be perfect for each other.

Hell on Heels (Hot Damned #3) by Robyn Peterman

Blurb:
Where does a Demon go when she gets deported from Hell?

Kentucky. Eden, Kentucky to be more specific—where nothing is exactly as it seems.

My name is Dixie. I’m a Demon—a lousy Demon. I’m a twenty-one year old virgin and I have a battery operated boyfriend. My magic is iffy at best and downright dangerous at worst. Leaving Hell to represent my race is not high on my list of things to do.

Hell was exact. Hell was simple. All I want to do is get to home base with the hotter than Hades Demon of my dreams and work on my dark side so Satan, my dad, will get off my ass.

Instead I end up in Kentucky looking for the Balance of Chaos, avoiding pole dancing classes with Mother Nature and finding out my invisible friend is a silver skinned destructive weather pattern.

And if that isn’t craptastic enough, the damn Sword of Death is missing again and who ever has it wants the King of the Underworld dead. Seriously.

With new powers emerging daily, keeping my Demon side, horniness and general disgust under wraps doesn’t make it any easier to fit in with the humans. Thankfully my priorities are in line; get laid…save world…try not to blow up kitchen appliances…and get laid again. I was ready to rumble.
All I want to do is go back to Hell, but with the balance of good and evil in my hands, I’m stuck in the garden of Eden. Oh well, what the Hell. Someone has to save the world before there’s no world left to save. Might as well be me.

My review:
Hell on Heels is an irreverent, truly funny, escape from reality.  Be warned there is cursing, some sweet but totally hot sex, and the secondary characters will have you giggling uncontrollably.  I really hope Robyn Peterman will keep this series going I can’t wait to see where she will take us next.

Bones Never Lie (Temperance Brennan #17) by Kathy Reichs

Blurb:
In the acclaimed author’s thrilling new novel, Brennan is at the top of her game in a battle of wits against the most monstrous adversary she has ever encountered.

Unexpectedly called in to the Charlotte PD’s Cold Case Unit, Dr. Temperance Brennan wonders why she’s been asked to meet with a homicide cop who’s a long way from his own jurisdiction. The shocking answer: Two child murders, separated by thousands of miles, have one thing in common—the killer. Years ago, Anique Pomerleau kidnapped and murdered a string of girls in Canada, then narrowly eluded capture. It was a devastating defeat for her pursuers, Brennan and police detective Andrew Ryan. Now, as if summoned from their nightmares, Pomerleau has resurfaced in the United States, linked to victims in Vermont and North Carolina. When another child is snatched, the reign of terror promises to continue—unless Brennan can rise to the challenge and make good on her second chance to stop a psychopath.

But Brennan will have to draw her bitter ex-partner out of exile, keep the local police and feds from one another’s throats, and face more than just her own demons as she stalks the deadliest of predators into the darkest depths of madness.

My review:
Another terrific addition to the Temperance Brennan series by Kathy Reichs. These books are always intelligent suspenseful and mind boggling.  Bones Never Lie continues this tradition.  A case from the past rises to haunt Tempe.  She is pushed to find Andrew Ryan and bring him back to the land of the living so they find the killer or killers before they can strike again.
I never fail to learn something new whenever I read this series.  These books are fast paced and addictive and always worth a read.

In Your Dreams (Blue Heron #4) by Kristan Higgins

Blurb:
Emmaline Neal needs a date. Just a date—someone to help her get through her ex-fiancĂ©'s wedding without losing her mind. But pickings are slim in Manningsport, New York, population 715. In fact, there's really only one option: local heartthrob Jack Holland. Everyone loves Jack, and he won't get the wrong idea…. After all, Jack Holland would never actually be interested in a woman like Em. Especially not with his beautiful ex-wife creeping around, angling to reunite ever since he rescued a group of teens and became a local hero.

But when the wedding festivities take an unexpectedly passionate turn, Em figures it was just one crazy night. Jack is too gorgeous, too popular, to ever end up with her. So why is she the one he can talk to about his deep, dark feelings? If Em is going to get her dream man, she'll have to start by believing in him…

My review:
Another incredibly sweet and fun read from Kristan Higgins. I so want a Jack of my own.
Jack Holland is genuinely nice guy.  He isn’t perfect but he is about as close to it as you can humanly be.  So why is he divorced and single?
Police Officer Emmaline Neal is a lot like me so I can truly identify.  Emmaline lost the man she had loved since she was in fifth grade.  Now 3 years later he has invited her to his wedding.  Jack needs to get away and if the hot hockey girl (Emmaline) needs his help as her date, why he is happy to oblige. Neither of them expected to like the other quite so much.  Now if only Jack’s ex could go away.
This is a fantastic addition to the Blue Heron series.  Sweet with some truly funny laugh out loud moments.

Winners

The biggest winner from the Hometown Heroes: Hotter Ever After (Pets for Vets Charity Bundle) review and giveaway was me.  I got to read 16 terrific stories, find some “new to me” authors and get some input as to what folks think a hero truly is all the while supporting a great cause. I've noticed that most of your definitions include humility.  My question is this: If an asshole does a heroic deed is he/she still a hero?

In my humble opinion the authors that donated their work to this box set are real heroes.  They gave of themselves, their time and their work all to help out those that have sacrificed to keep us safe.

That being said the winners are:

He's So Fine (Lucky Harbor #11) by Jill Shalvis review & giveaway

Blurb:
For Olivia Bentley, Lucky Harbor is more than the town where she runs her new vintage shop. It's the place where folks are friendly to strangers-and nobody knows her real name. Olivia does a good job of keeping her past buried, not getting too cozy with anyone . . . until she sees a man drowning. Suddenly she's rushing into the surf, getting up close and personal with the hottest guy she's ever laid hands on.

Charter boat captain Cole Donovan has no problem with a gorgeous woman throwing her arms around his neck in an effort to "save" him. In fact, he'd like to spend a lot more time skin-to-skin with Olivia. He's just not expecting that real trouble is about to come her way. Will it bring her deeper into Cole's heart, or will it be the end of Olivia's days in little Lucky Harbor?

My review:
Fans of Lucky Harbor are going to love this latest addition! I know I did.  We met Olivia and Cole in It's in His Kiss (Lucky Harbor #10) and you just knew that although Olivia was hiding something she was nobody’s fool.  Olivia has a past and it means that she needs to protect her heart.  Cole has somehow managed to find a crack in the armor but he has issues off his own. Olivia isn’t as unapproachable as she seems and Cole isn’t as laid back as he’d like everyone to believe he is.  Will Olivia’s past keep them from having a future?  This is another laugh out loud tale from the funny folks from Lucky Harbor.

Generation 18 (Spook Squad #2) by Keri Arthur

Blurb:
COUNTDOWN TO CRISIS

A serial killer strikes every twelve hours. A vampire takes lives at random. At first glance, these tragic incidents seem unrelated. But Special Investigations Unit agents Sam Ryan and Gabriel Stern trace them both back to a military base known as Hopeworth. Is the murder spree part of a cover-up? And are the vampire killings less by chance and more methodical?

The investigation takes an eerie, personal turn when Sam discovers a connection between herself and the victims—and a clue to her own mysterious origins. With the violence escalating and the danger drawing closer to home, the stakes are raised and the mission changes from seeking justice to ensuring Sam and Gabriel’s own survival. And the one person who seems to hold all the answers—about Hopeworth, about Sam’s past—is a mystery man she isn’t sure she can trust. They share a psychic link through her dreams, and he once saved her life, but he may just be the greatest enemy humankind has ever known.

My review:
This is a re-release of one of the first series I’d read by Keri Arthur.

I love this series!  Special Investigations Unit agents Sam Ryan and Gabriel Stern are back.  All is not well with their partnership.  Sam is a good cop being held back by Gabriel’s fear of losing another partner.  Even so they stumble on connected cases and are beginning to find out some frightening things about Sam’s past.  Action, adventure, and mystery, another terrific read from Keri Arthur.
