Death in the Desert: Target Practice Mysteries 7 by Nikki Haverstock

Blurb:
Di arrives at her first outdoor tournament of the year determined to focus on shooting and avoid dead bodies. But before the competitive archer and occasional amateur sleuth can even practice, she finds out that two acquaintances have received death threats. Thrust into yet another investigation, she soon realizes the list of suspects is industrywide—and then a body shows up. Di only has a single day to sort out who is responsible for what, or the killer might get away with the perfect crime.

My review:
Di, Moo and the gang are back in Death in the Desert. Join them at their first outdoor tournament of the year and of course the first murder. Our intrepid amateur sleuths have only a day to find a killer in what is essentially a locked room scenario. This is a quick and dirty who dunnit that will still manage to leave you with a smile.

Alpha Geek: Bennett by Milly Taiden

Blurb:
Tiger shifter Dakota Alcott’s entire life is one series of adventures. She calls them adventures to feel better about all of her failures. The truth is, she is looking for her place. Her people. Herself. When she interviews for Nick Milan’s protection company, she has hope that this might be it.
Awkward genius Bennett Huxx has more degrees and Ph.Ds than he has had girlfriends — and sexual experiences, but he isn’t going to think about that just now. He needs to focus on the shifter serum his friend Gray needs help with. He won’t be distracted by the beautiful bodyguard Gray hired to keep an eye on him. Or so he thinks. But Dakota is way too enticing to be resisted.
When a mysterious band of men attacks Bennett and Dakota to get to the serum, a decision has to be made to save his life. Gawky Bennett is replaced by one sexy shifter. He wants to protect Dakota, but as it turns out? The feisty tigress just might save him.

My review:

Welcome back to the sexy mad world of the Alpha Geek. Brainiac Bennett Huxx is socially awkward, slight of frame and wears oversized glasses. Tiger shifter Dakota Alcott may be searching for the right path but she thinks Bennett is adorkable. Her tiger thinks he’s her mate. This book ups the Alpha insanity up to mega. This is hot and hilarious.

Their Wild Sea (Wintervale Packs #3) by Milly Taiden

Blurb:
Book 3 of the Wintervale Packs
***Another sexy reverse harem for you to keep warm***

Shaylin Daniels feels an intense pull toward Daeria. The more she learns about the planet and the alien shifter races who lives there, the more she knows she needs to go. It was like a calling—a knowing that she needs to do this. To help a dying planet rebuild. So she signs up for their surrogate program. When she arrives, a power awakens inside her and suddenly a lot of things makes sense to her. Mainly why she loves the ocean and swore it spoke to her.

Expecting to be paired with two wolf shifters, she is shocked when four potential mates shower her with attention. Drex, her protective dragon, grounds her. Her wolves, Quil and Nash, give her a playful escape from reality. Storm, the leopard shifter from Silvermoon, offers her warmth and friendship. Each of them knew the instant they saw her that she belonged to them. Sharing her isn’t a problem. Keeping her alive is.

Insane and determined to rule the planet, Xaxhin is building an army with the goal to take out the descendants before they come into their full powers. He’s failed three times already. When Xaxhin uncovers relics that could make him powerful enough to destroy all life as they know it, Shaylin with her mates and their friends work together to stop the evil sorcerer no matter the cost.

My review:
Their Wild Sea is a smoking hot addition to the Wintervale Packs series by Milly Taiden. I recommend reading Their Rising Sun and Their Perfect Storm before reading this. You’ll need the set up before joining Shaylin and her guys on their steamy and dangerous journey. I love that Shaylin is confident and doesn’t let her alpha males push her around. Grab a glass of wine and a comfy chair and dive in.

Whispers and Wishes (Untouchable #4) by Heather Long

Blurb:
Everything changes. Even the things we didn’t ask for. Jake, Archie, Coop, and Ian were my best friends and three of them still are and they’re also now my lovers, my boyfriends, and pretty much the anchors keeping me from getting washed away.

I’ve had great moments and I’ve had horrible ones. One thing is for sure, I’ll never forget my senior year.

It’s the year everything changed.

*Please note this is a reverse harem and the author suggests you always read the forward in her books. This is the fourth in a series and the story will continue through future books.

My review:
Whispers and Wishes continues Frankies story. She has a lot of healing to do. Ian has a lot of groveling to do. And then there is the Frankies mom and Archies dad situation. This book much like Frankies life is an emotional rollercoaster that will leave you dizzy. The ending will leave you gasping and desperate for the next installment.

For Whom the Smell Tolls: A Paranormal Women's Fiction Novel (A Nora Black Midlife Psychic Mystery Book 2) by Renee George.

For Whom the Smell Tolls: A Paranormal Women's Fiction Novel (A Nora Black Midlife Psychic Mystery Book 2) by Renee George

Blurb:
My name is Nora Black. I'm over fifty and enjoying my life to the fullest. That is, when I'm not worried about graying hair, low back pain, allergies, and a psychic gift that sometimes stinks.

After solving a murder with the help of my new scent-induced psychic ability, I’m thrilled to report that everything is finally getting back to normal. Better than normal, actually. My BFFs work with me at my Scents & Scentsability shop, I’m dating a young, hot detective, and the upcoming Memorial Day weekend promises to bring in lots of tourists to Garden Cove.

There’s not a thing in this world that could spoil my great mood…

Nothing except a suspicious death. When police officer Reese McKay asks me to use my aroma-mojo to look into the “accidental drowning” of her black-sheep cousin, I can’t turn her away. Especially now that she’s become a friend.

With help from my besties Gilly and Pippa, along with an unofficial assist from Detective Hot Stuff, I’m determined to crack the case of the drowned girl and sniff out the killer before he or she can strike again.

My review:
How I love this series let me count the ways:
1.      Nora may be in her fifties but she is tough as nails.
2.    Detective hottie doesn’t let Nora’s age get in the way of his feelings and is there for her when she needs/wants him.
3.    Gillie and Pippa are a terrific BFF brigade.
4.    The mystery is engaging.
I’m loving this series and can’t wait for more.

Conventionally Yours (True Colors, #1) by Annabeth Albert

Blurb:
When two "big name fans" go head-to-head at a convention, love isn't the only thing at stake.

Charming, charismatic, and effortlessly popular, Conrad Stewart seems to have it all...but in reality, he's scrambling to keep his life from tumbling out of control.

Brilliant, guarded, and endlessly driven, Alden Roth may as well be the poster boy for perfection...but even he can't help but feel a little broken inside.

When these mortal enemies are stuck together on a cross-country road trip to the biggest fan convention of their lives, their infamous rivalry takes a backseat as an unexpected connection is forged. Yet each has a reason why they have to win the upcoming Odyssey gaming tournament and neither is willing to let emotion get in the way―even if it means giving up their one chance at something truly magical.

My review:
Conventionally Yours is a delightful road trip romance. Conrad thinks Alden has a stick up his nethers. Alden thinks Conrad is floating through life without a care. When a chance of a lifetime has them driving cross country together the close quarters force them to reconsider previous notions. This is a read that will fill your heart with happy.

The Van Birch Incident (The Incident Series, #1) by Marla Holt

Blurb:
Van Birch: Pop Star. A-list starlet. Off-limits.

Clay Noble has spent the better part of a decade avoiding his taboo obsession: His stepsister Van. In love with her since the first time he’d heard her sing, even shipping himself off to the army couldn’t stop thoughts of her. Now that he’s lost everything in a tornado, he’s forced to move back in with the only family he has left, Van and her dad. Sleeping down the hall from her is forcing every unwanted impulse back to the surface.

Clay Noble: Gorgeous. Infuriating. Untouchable.

Everything Van touches turns to gold with a side of outrageous. When she accuses her manager of sexual assault, the public thinks it's just another one of her publicity stunts and the backlash is brutal. Wounded, she dashes home to a tornado-devastated Wellville, Kansas to heal and help rebuild, even though the constant stream of social media doubts and threats won't let her rest. But there’s another reason for her sleepless nights and fevered dreams. Clay is back, hotter than ever, and his lingering glances and stolen moments have her convinced the feelings she’s fought for so long may not be one sided after all.

******
The Van Birch Incident marries forbidden romance, bordering on taboo with a little danger and a guaranteed happily ever after, while exploring how social media and real life collide in a post #metoo world where the internet never sleeps.

My review:
The Van Birch Incident by “new to me author” Marla Holt was billed as a rock and roll romance but it is more of a celebrity romance type of story. This story may have triggers for you: rape, forbidden romance, stalkers, incels and trolling.  Still with me?
The heroine is a young pop singer who trusts the wrong guy and gets hurt for it. We get to watch as she goes through the trauma and comes out the other side stronger and with a chance at real happiness. This book will have you clutching tissues and drinking wine but will leave you with a smile.
