Has-Beens and Hocus Pocus: Ley Line Protectors, Book 1 by Terri A. Wilson

Blurb:
Hollywood can kiss Marilyn Bordeaux's has-been-diva butt. At least that's what she'd like to tell everyone. But acting was her passion. Now when a death in the family forces her to return home. She'll have to make a choice between a passion that sees her as outdated or a family commitment she walked away from a lifetime before.

My review:

Marilyn Bordeaux aka Mimi Patin is an aging Hollywood star.  Hollywood is not a kind place and acting is a tough gig but she’s been doing well at it for years. When her grandmother dies she goes home and has to deal with the past she ran from.

This is a sweet and funny tale of going home again and finding that you can’t run from yourself. With some fabulous supporting characters Mimi finds herself and Hollywood can kiss her perfectly toned butt.

I really look forward to future books in this world.

When the Spell Blows (Grimoires of a Middle-aged Witch Book 3) by Renee George

Blurb:

Being a forty-something, newly divorced, single mom can have it’s up and downs, but discovering that I possess elemental witch magic has turned the downs deadly. As a new practitioner of tru-craft, I’ve been told that every witch is called to a single element, and they are sent down one of two paths, the Fade or the Bright.

In my case, that’s simply not true. I’ve mastered Fire and Earth, almost at the cost of my life, and I can’t help but wonder what what lethal path Air will blow me down.

My review:

When the Spell Blows is a terrific addition to this series. I recommend reading the earlier books first.

Iris has come to her magic later in life. She was adopted as a child and not raised in the craft. She is winging it with the help of a gnarly gnome with an attitude, a guy who claims to be her soul mate and her own wit and wisdom she’s garnered through life. Unlike most Tru-craft witches Iris has been gifted with multiple elements to call. She’s survived fire and earth but air might just kill her unless she can let go and go with the flow. Not something she’s good at.

I really enjoy this series and this is a fantastic addition. I can identify with Iris’s struggles and was thrilled when she finds support in unexpected places.

Must Love Cats (Cat’s Paw Cove) by Wynter Daniels

Blurb:

Politics—and cats—make strange bedfellows!

Mayor Laura Lancaster never wanted to be a single mom, but that was preferable to staying married to a swindler, and a man who hated her cats. Between a demanding job, raising her infant son, Jet, and caring for her four kitties, there’s no room in Laura’s life for a man. Well, except for jousting with the sheriff at work, which she enjoys way more than she should.

Sheriff RJ Higgins rarely sees eye to eye with the town’s attractive mayor, even though he’s spent the last dozen years carrying a torch for her. But after losing his pregnant fiancĂ©, he has no desire for love or a kid.

Laura is Cat’s Paw Cove’s most powerful citizen, but when someone abducts Jet, she feels completely helpless. The fact that Jet has magical powers might put her precious baby in even more peril.

RJ is desperate to find the boy and return him to his terrified mother. Despite their differences at work, RJ and Laura must put their faith in each other to rescue a child and maybe find unexpected love in the process.

My review:

This is a sweet second chance romance that proves love is magical. I just adored this story and little Jet stole my heart. Though this is part of a series it can be read standalone just fine.

Alpha Geek: Fox by Milly Taiden

Blurb:

A bat shifter working to overcome the ghosts of her past, and an Alpha Geek who’s discovered a terrorist plot, team up to save the world.

Fox Redman, a billionaire game designer, discovers a terrorist using his game as a means for mass destruction in real life. When he goes to the FBI, Fox sits at the top of the hit list. Who’s he gonna call? Nick, of course, which gets him the most beautiful bodyguard ever.

Bat shifter Vella Marlowe has a past worse than Dracula’s. So when her mate walks into Nick’s office, she’s not sure if she can take his rejection. Asked to be his bodyguard, she can’t help but want to curl up with his big bear body. If only she could focus on the job and not how cute he is.

This time, though, Fox’s transformation into an alpha isn’t enough to stop a monster bigger than he is. A monster determined to rid the world of a particular bat and bear shifter. If Fox can’t save his batgirl, he’s going to be a bear to live with.

My review:

Vella Marlowe is a vampire bat shifter with an attitude. Her past and her diminutive size have left her with a chip on her shoulder the size of Plymouth rock. But she has a huge heart and a lot of love to give if someone can scale the wall she’s built.

Game designer Fox Redman doesn’t have time for a woman in his life. Gamer girls and gold diggers are all he meets and he has more important things to do. Like find out who has hacked his game world and is recreating disasters there in the real world.

When he reaches out to Nick for protection Vella volunteers for the job. The heat between them is immediate and intense. They have to fight their attraction as they fight to find out who is doing the dirty deeds and why. Lots of action and heat in this fun addition to the series.

Only for Him: A Harmless Novella by Melissa Schroeder

Blurb:

You met Addy and Vic in Surrender, now read their story.

I’ve always known to avoid powerful men. I’m not afraid of them. I was raised by one, and while I love my father, I don’t like being told what to do. So there is no way I would want a man like Vic Walton.

At least, I shouldn’t.

But Vic wants me, and when he wants something, he does everything he can to get it. He’s beyond gorgeous and charming…and okay, I give in for one night.

Big mistake.

Because once he’s been in my bed, I don’t want to give him up. He asks for only one thing from me: my surrender.

And guess what? I discover that I want to. Crazy, right?

Once I do, I’m pulled into his world, and one person bent on revenge realizes that hurting me might be the best way to get back at Vic.

Author Warning: This book contains a determined man, a spunky heroine, and lots of flowers. There’s also meddling friends, a delicious seduction scene, and well, more of those scenes. Oh, and a bit of danger. There is even a trip to Hawaii involved for our DC lovebirds. This is a Harmless book, so make sure you have a little ice water hand. Okay, a lot of ice water.

My review:

Addy and Vic remind me of why I love this series so. On paper they shouldn’t work. He is a dominant lawyer and she a successful business woman. They should butt heads and they do but in the bedroom they are hot, hot, hot. This is a sweet, sexy romp that will toast your eyes. Though this is part of a series it can be read standalone.

Werewolves Like Pink Too by D.N. Hoxa

Blurb:

What’s worse than a pink pixie living all alone in the Big City, eight thousand miles away from home?

A pink pixie who’s stuck behind a desk all day, taking calls and managing monster-fighting crews without ever seeing the light of day herself. That’s what.

For two years, I worked my ass off to prove myself to my boss, and prayed for a chance to do thework I left my family behind for.

And I’m finally about to catch my break. I’ve got a mission, a real mission, and an undercover one at that. It’s like the gates of Haven have opened for me—right before I’m pushed off the clouds and thrown all the way down to Hell again.

Because Dominic Dane is going to be my partner. That self absorbed, narcissistic werewolf who humiliated me in front of all my coworkers on day one, and loves to pretend that I don’t even exist.

It’s bad enough that he tried to kick me out of my mission. It’s even worse that he’s sinfully hot and fries braincells with a single look of those gorgeous green eyes. Such a waste of beauty on that guy.

Now, on top of having to kick ass on my first mission, I have to pretend to be his girlfriend for three days, and keep my ridiculous attraction to him under control, too. So much for catching a break.

Lucky for me, I’ve got a secret weapon that’s going to help me handle Dominic Dane, and it’s God’s best gift to mankind: chocolate. Armed with as many bars as my purse can fit, and with my wits about me, I’m going to survive the gorgeous wolf-ass one way or the other—and win.

My review:

I loved Teddy, a pixie who just didn’t fit in making her own way in the big city. She is used to being under appreciated but when she is needed for a job she is going to use it to get what she wants too bad she has to deal with a good looking jerk of a werewolf to succeed.

The story sucked me in and kept me there until the very last page upon which I threw my kindle across the room. I cannot wait for the next installment.

Law and Disorder (Masters of Marquis Book 3) by Golden Angel

Blurb:

She’s a wild child. He’s assigned to be her Watch Dom. It’s youth and mischief vs age and experience.

Iris is new to the lifestyle and when her inexperience and troublemaking disrupt everyone’s pleasure at Marquis, someone has to lay down the law. Unfortunately for Iris, that someone is Master Law. In the courtroom and the playroom, Lawrence is a by-the-book kind of guy, and while he doesn’t suffer fools he certainly doesn’t mind keeping brats in line.

Teaching Iris the importance of following the rules for her own safety as well as everyone else’s comes naturally to Master Law. To his surprise, an attraction to the young and rebellious newbie quickly begins to feel just as genuine. But when Iris tests the limits of the law both inside and outside of the club, Lawrence will have to choose between the black-and-white world he loves to live in and the growing feelings he has for Iris.

My review:

Opposites attract in this installment. He is older and likes order. She is more of the go with the flow type. These two go head to head and heart to heart in this sweet and sassy addition to the series. (It can be read standalone). I loved seeing a different side to Master Law. I enjoyed this story right up until the ticking bomb at the end.

I’m too dangerous. I should stay away. But when I discover she’s the hacker who nearly took down my company, I demand she submit to my punishment. And she will.

Kylie belongs to me.

Publisher’s Note: Alpha’s Temptation is a stand-alone book in the Bad Boy Alphas series. HEA guaranteed, no cheating. This book contains a hot, demanding alpha wolf with a penchant for protecting and dominating his female. If such material offends you, do not buy this book.

My review:

Temptation is the theme throughout the book. He is thoroughly tempted by his new employee. She is thoroughly tempted by her boss. The both have their secrets. Both know there are so many reasons why it would be wrong but oh the temptation.

Smoking hot and a really good mystery.

Magic Betrays (The Randi Sanderson Series Book 2) by Lia Davis

Blurb:

War is brewing. One rogue outfit inspires fear in both Heaven and Hell alike. The Shade. A group of half-angel, half-demon malcontents bent on domination over the middle. But first, they’ll have to deal with Jacksonville’s lead detective, Randi Sanderson. A hybrid herself, Randi distanced herself from the magical world, content to live and work among humans. However, after she barely managed to save her own son from the grip of Shade operatives, she’s prepared to dive back into the supernatural underbelly — and tear it apart. Hell’s no place for a kid, but without safer alternatives, Randi lets her father take her son into hiding while she deals with the Shade threat to her family. Rage fuels her vengeance, but it’s gotten her into trouble before. Helping keep her cool, partner Cash Bennett, a fallen angel, provides a healing touch to soothe her tumultuous anger. Together, they face growing upheaval in Jacksonville’s paranormal community. Another murder bears the tell-tale signs of Shade interference. A young man is beaten to death. His twin sister barely survives, and what’s left of her psyche is fractured by malicious, infernal magic, causing her to act out. When she runs, Randi and Cash race against time to uncover a Shade plot that seems to grow in scope at every turn. Corruption, spies, assassins, and tight-lipped witnesses plague their investigation, but Randi and Cash face off against all comers. As Cash helps Randi tap into her angelic abilities, their partnership blossoms, as well as a simmering romance threatening to boil over — much to the chagrin of a distant observer poised to return…

My review:

Randi and Cash are back and things are going frustratingly slow in their search for the Shade and Randi is missing her son. A new case gives them new leads and new enemies.

This is a fast paced thrilling addition to the series but watch out for the bombshell ending.

Blurb:

This Montgomery finds his match in this touching second chance romance from NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan.

I thought I was moving on from my divorce, but now my ex is marrying someone else. I shouldn’t be this broken up, but it’s hard to put on a brave face when my family is basically an inked up Hallmark movie.

Crimson Moon Hideaway: Lead To You by Jennifer Wedmore

Blurb:

Baylee was running from her life and drowning her sorrows in the bar at Crimson Moon Hideaway. She was looking for anything or anyone to use as a distraction. One glance across the hall, and she was intrigued. Who was that man going into the casino?

Cooper found himself at Crimson Moon Hideaway while they were hosting their first poker tournament. He was trying to avoid the temptation to pick up the cards and needed anything to distract him. Across the hall, he saw her. Salon… sure, because that's where she went.

When they find their lives were more entwined than they even suspected, they have to figure out a way to end both their problems and if a distraction can turn into something more.

My review:

Baylee is an author hiding out in the bar at Crimson Moon Hideaway for reasons. Cooper is self-employed and hiding out at Crimson Moon Hideaway for reasons. These two find each other and find out that their reasons are not so different. The magic of Crimson Moon Hideaway works in mysterious ways and finding out how it affects Baylee and Coop is lots of heartwarming fun.

Pink Lemonade (Little Cakes Book 5) by Pepper North

Blurb:

Welcome to Little Cakes, the bakery that plays Daddy matchmaker!

Could she dare to live her fantasies?

After meeting a handsome man in the park, Tori Reinhart flees back to the safety of Little Cakes. He couldn’t possibly be interested in anyone as shy and inexperienced as her, and she’s sure she’ll never see him again.

Evan Parker lives two lives. His public persona as a world-famous photographer keeps him busy, as does his private life as the back-up dungeon master of Blaze. When an adorable artist in the local park captures his full attention, her tender Little heart puts his Daddy side on full alert.

Little Cakes is a sweet and satisfying series, but dare to taste only if you like delicious Daddies, luscious Littles, and guaranteed happily-ever-afters.

My review:

Pink Lemonade is sweet and a little tart and so is this story. I loved the interplay between Evan and Tori. Tori is shy and sweet and Evan is forced to deal with the public in his work. I loved that he admits that “Daddies” aren’t perfect. It was wonderful watching Tori blossom.

Hot Pursuit (The Hot Cannolis #3)) by Eli Easton

Blurb:

Solving the case will be tricky. But keeping their hands off each other will be impossible.

Detective Rick Canali’s life is perfect the way it is. He loves his job with the Chico, CA police. He can get casual sex whenever he wants it, and for family vibes, he has his brother Angelo’s large family of hotheaded firefighters. He’s happy being a “perpetual bachelor.” But when he’s partnered up with a too-attractive newbie detective, all the neat boxes in his life threaten to collapse. Because the one thing this detective never saw coming—falling in love.

John Rivera always wanted to be a detective. He’s determined to succeed despite his ex trying to make his life hell and his new partner—the gorgeous Rick Canali—making it clear he’s not wanted. As a former foster care kid, he’s used to fighting his own battles and depending on no one.

When a firefighter dies under suspicious circumstances, Rick and John’s new partnership is tested. It turns out, they’re a pretty good team. But can they crack the case while dancing around their mutual attraction, dodging John’s ex, and trying to keep the Canali firefighters safe from a potential killer in the Cal Fire ranks?

HOT PURSUIT is a murder mystery wrapped in a romance with a big scoop of suspense, hurt-comfort, evil ex, and more Canali family feels.

My review:

Uncle Ricky gets his happy! Rick Canali is different from the others in his family. Younger than his older brother by fourteen years he is not old enough to hang with his brothers and older than his nephews. Also he is a cop in a family of firefighters.  Rick keeps his private life private until he comes out to his brother to assist his nephew to do the same. It’s tough to be gay in a family of studly Italians. In this story Rick gets a new partner who is openly gay and hits every note for Rick. But he doesn’t mess around on the job. He’s more of a hookup guy. New detective John Rivera transfers to homicide to get out of an abusive relationship and finds that Rick may be just what he needs.

I really enjoyed this fast paced romantic suspense. A terrific addition to the Hot Cannolis.
