In a Badger Way (Honey Badger Chronicles #2) by Shelly Laurenston

Blurb:
Petite, kind, brilliant, and young, Stevie is nothing like the usual women bodyguard Shen Li is interested in. Even more surprising, the youngest of the lethal, ball-busting, and beautiful MacKilligan sisters is terrified of bears. But she’s not terrified of pandas. She loves pandas.

Which means that whether Shen wants her to or not, she simply won’t stop cuddling him. He isn’t some stuffed Giant Panda, ya know! He is a Giant Panda shifter. He deserves respect and personal space. Something that little hybrid is completely ignoring.

But Stevie has a way of finding trouble. Like going undercover to take down a scientist experimenting on other shifters. For what, Shen doesn’t want to know, but they’d better find out. And fast. Stevie might be the least violent of the honey badger sisters, but she’s the most dangerous to Shen’s peace of mind. Because she has absolutely no idea how much trouble they’re in . . . or just how damn adorable she is.

My review:
Manic! Hilarious! Shelly Laurenston does it again. In a Badger Way is the crazy wonderful tale of genius tiger/honey badger hybrid Stevie MacKilligan falling in love with cute panda shifter Shen Li. I love the MacKilligan sisters and their insane brand of love but Shen never sees it coming. This story will leave your sides hurt from laughing and your heart filled with love. A must read.

Surrendering to Her Mate (My Wicked Mates) by Erzabet Bishop

Blurb:
A new beginning…

Fleeing from a relationship gone horribly wrong, bunny shifter Clover Frazier makes the choice to start a new life. If only her car had gotten the memo. Stranded in the parking lot of what seemed to be a nightclub, she walks into a world she never knew existed. A new job with room and board are the answer to her prayers, but can she really outrun the ghosts of her past or will they come back to claim her?

A cat with a broken heart might just learn to love again.

Master Richard has just come out of a five-year Master/sub arrangement after a bitter breakup. He spies the new barmaid instantly, dismissing her as just another pretty face. When circumstances put them in close proximity, his resolve to stay at a distance is put to the test when his prickly panther responds to the luscious bunny shifter. Finding himself enamored by the curvaceous blonde, the teacher becomes the student and this alpha male learns that the gift of trust might just be the greatest surrender of all.

My review:
Can a bunny shifter find a new start away from her abusive coyote shifter boyfriend? Can a Panther shifter learn to trust again? Find out the answers to these and other questions in this sweet BDSM tale of love and redemption. A bunny shifter and her blind Chihuahua are running from a bad situation when her car breaks down in the parking lot of a BDSM club. She finds that communication and trust are very sexy.

Her Damaged Guardian: Federal Paranormal Unit (The League of Wolf Protectors Book 1) by Terri A. Wilson

Blurb:
Lincoln Talbert lived by two rules; get the money up front and kids were off limits. That’s what made him a standout enforcer for the Mikhailov family. But when faced with the choice to break rule number two, they weren’t very happy with his choice, turned their back on him, and turned him into the FBI. Recruited by James Brock, head of the Federal Paranormal Unit to work with the U.S. Marshals, he now leads a powerhouse team specifically trained for witness protection and paranormal criminals.

Savanah Delacour hides her true identity to keep herself and her family safe. But when she witnesses a murder she must risk persecution in order to save her grandmother and stay alive. Protected by a man who views personal connections as a weakness, she must breach the wall around his heart to save him, his team, and herself.

My review:
This is the type of story that leaves you saying aww isn’t that great at the end. This is paranormal romantic suspense that leaves you wanting more.  The ensemble cast is great and I look forward to their stories. A fun start to a new series.

Taming Her Mate (Grizzlies Gone Wild #6) by Kathy Lyons

Blurb:
Some men aren't meant to be tamed in the next book in USA Today bestselling author Kathy Lyons's Grizzlies Gone Wild series!

Detective Ryan Kennedy doesn't have time for distractions. As the only bear shifter on the police force, he's responsible for investigating the cause of the mysterious flu-like illness that's ravaging the citizens of Detroit. But when the beautiful daughter of a rival clan's alpha asks for his help, Ryan realizes that she may hold the key to stopping the virus. If only he can focus on the case and not on how much he wants to kiss the enemy.

Francesca Wolf knows who's poisoning the city, and she has a plan to take him down, but it will only work if Ryan follows her lead. Frankie's strong, passionate spirit makes her slow to ask for help, but time is running out and the sexy-as-sin cop won't submit to her demands. Instead, he's giving her orders and firing up her passions just when she needs to stay calm. They'll have to work together-as equals-to save the city, to keep each other alive, and to contain a hunger that might just burn the whole city to the ground.

My review:
If you like stories with girrrrl power Taming Her Mate is for you. Francesca Wolf is a wolf shifter doing what she can to keep her alpha father and her brother from destroying their pack and the city. Grizzly shifter Detective Ryan Kennedy doesn’t trust anybody but he does admire Francesca. When they meet the chemistry is terrific and they are one of my favorite couples in this series.

Grounded by Narrelle M. Harris

Blurb:
In a world where wings gives everyone the freedom to fly, an artist born wingless uses her art to show the winged world the wonder of the ground. But when she meets a recently injured police officer who finds himself grounded, they will both learn that there is more than one way to soar.

My review:
Grounded by Narrelle M. Harris is a sweet, empowering tale of renewal. Benedick Sasaki has to learn to deal with his new reality. No longer can he fly. As he moves into an new flightless friendly building he meets his neighbor, artist/activist Clementine Torres. She helps him realize that there is beauty on the ground that those with wings never take the time to see.  She helps him realize that his new reality isn’t something to morn.
I really enjoyed this book. It made me feel for those marginalized by society because they don’t fit the “norm” but that doesn’t mean they aren’t valuable and can’t contribute. This book doesn’t preach but you get the message.

From Breath and Ruin (Elements of Five #1) by Carrie Ann Ryan

Blurb:
In her YA debut, New York Times bestselling author Carrie Ann Ryan dives into a world with magic and sacrifice with the Elements of Five.

Five hundred years ago, the Maison Realm was shattered, divided into warring kingdoms of elemental Wielders with fate and truth shadowed and uncertain. Now, factions of both the light and dark venture into the human realm in search of the prophesied Spirit Priestess who is said to Wield the Elements of Five to bring the two fractured kingdoms together.

Lyric has no idea that there's a realm outside the human one she lives in. When fate and circumstances are pulled from her hands after an accident, she finds out that nothing is as it seems.

War is raging around her, and when Lyric realizes that they are searching for her, she must rely on those she once trusted as she trains: a boy who isn't who she thought, and a new realm of warriors who have come to protect her.

For the darkness is coming, and the Queen of Obscurité wants to ensure that the King of Lumière can't get his hands on Lyric. And the only way to ensure that is if Lyric herself is no more...no matter the cost to prophecy.

My review:
From Breath and Ruin is a YA fantasy coming of age story. It starts out really slow but develops the world and characters along the way. I almost put it down as I really didn’t like Lyric but as our group moves along we get to see glimpses of the woman Lyric could become. I will be reading the next installment to see how she evolves. The character I really liked, Braelynn, has already evolved and I can’t wait to see how she handles it. Overall a good beginning.

Aversion (The Blood Court Book 3) by Dagmar Avery, K. Margaret, Stella Price

Blurb:
A new guard and a mystery to solve.

With Blutfeuer under fire, Nymea’s worries are not unfounded, and she needs to figure out just what Kendarla’s issues and plans are before someone gets hurt...namely someone from her Court. But with her enemies largely quiet, she's afraid of falling into a false sense of security.

Nymea and the guys are up to their ears in supposition, and with a new guard in the mix they all need to find where everyone fits. And as with any new addition, the aftermath of a bonding might prove more interesting than ever before.

Because Nymea has a full guard now, something that hasn’t happened in recent memory.

Things are changing, and the Blood Court with it. But Kendarla and her supporters are not finished with Nymea, and they kick it up a notch.

My review:
OH MY! Nymea has a sexy new guard who has managed to help her do something that hasn’t happened in a millennia. I really like Damari. Who wouldn’t like a man who brings you peace of mind plus has a split tongue. This is a fantastic action packed addition to The Blood Court series and I recommend reading the first two before reading this one. I am sitting on tenterhooks waiting for the next book.

On planet Daeria, she finds her two escorts are sexier than sin. She’s going to have problems keeping her hands off them and staying professional.

When Vanessa disappears, Madden and Kian learn they need to save more than her life alone. It’s a race against time to convince her they’re her perfect mates and creating a family isn’t impossible.

My review:
m/f/m
Dragons' Savior is a wonderful follow-up to Dragons' Jewel the first in this series. I recommend reading Dragons' Jewel first but Dragons' Savior can be read stand alone. Dr. Vanessa Bryant agrees to be relocated to Daeria not as a surrogate but as a healer. But fate will have her will she meets not one but two hot dragon shifters that make her want to burn up the sheets. Sadly someone is unhappy that she has found her future in Madden and Kian and is making attempts to ruin the future for all of them. Enjoy this sexy and exciting adventure, I did.

Beautiful One: An LGBT Historical Romance by Kerry Adrienne

Blurb:
In Athens, the Great Dionysia festival rouses citizens with wine, song, theater, and debauchery. Politics and scandal paint deep shadows across the portrait of the city, and wolves in sheep’s clothing roam the streets and the stage.

Shy Kallistos faces Sophocles in the theater competition, play for play against the celebrated master. Success beckons like a siren’s song, but the dark allure and smoldering desire for a new acquaintance rouse feelings Kallistos never imagined he’d feel.

Alexios spent many cold nights singing to the sheep and stars before traveling to Athens to help Sophocles. He longs to feel the breath of audience applause on his face and will do anything to become a famous actor. Now, losing his heart to the competition forces him to make difficult choices that may jeopardize his lifelong dreams.

Of Minotaur masks and men…where is life truly lived? On the stage or in the heart?

This book was first published in 2013. It has been significantly revised to release here

My review:
What would you do to succeed? Alexios is a shepherd who dreams of being an actor. Kallistos is a rising young playwright about to go up against the famous and popular Sophocles competition. Against this background these two young meet and fall in love. I adored this story. I felt like I was amid the madness of the Great Dionysia festival. These two guys have to choose what is most important to them.  I heartily recommend.

Hidden Powers (Superordinary Society #1) by Tara Lain

Blurb:
Superordinary Society: Book One

Jazz Vanessen is weird—and not just because he’s a werewolf. For most of his life, he’s felt different from his alpha male brothers and friends. Since he’s adopted, he can’t even blame it on family.

Now eighteen, Jazz meets his idol, the social activist Lysandra Mason, and her breathtaking nephew, Dash Mercury. Together with Dash and Jazz’s equally amazing friends—Carla, BeBop, Khadija, and Fatima—they discover the danger is even more lethal than they thought, and Jazz’s weirdness may save all their lives.

My review:
Hidden Powers is a fun sweet YA paranormal fantasy spin off from the author’s Harker Pack series. I love that there is a m/m love interest reminiscent of Vanyel from Mercedes Lackey’s Last Herald Mage series (which I absolutely adore). The heroes and heroines of the newly formed Superordinary Society are in their late teens early 20’s except BeBop he is 15 going on 40. These extraordinary young folks are going to change the world. I enjoyed watching them come together and can’t wait to see where they take us going forward. If you like paranormal YA this book is for you.

Taylor Brant is not only dangerous, he’s broken. He’s someone Jack should steer clear of. Yet Jack, bruised inside and out and needing to find absolution, tumbles into a series of dark, highly charged encounters with Brant which could shatter them both.

Graphic scenes of rough sex, BDSM, and heavy angst.

My review:

Operation Cobalt (Nova Force #2) by Susan Hayes

Blurb:
He’s looking for a fight. She’s looking for a hero.

Sergeant Dante Strak hasn’t always fought for the right side. Now that he’s part of Nova Force, he has a chance to make up for the mistakes of his past. After years of fighting, Dante believes he’s ready for anything the universe can throw at him…until a sexy, stubborn doctor crashes into his life and changes everything.

Dr. Tyra Li is on Bellex 3 to help combat the arrival of cobalt, a new designer drug that turned half the population into addicts almost overnight. When a brazen attack turns her mission of mercy into a fight for survival, a split-second decision leads to unexpected consequences, and a chance at a future she never imagined.

My review:
Sergeant Dante Strak is unapologetically male. He is a protector and good at it. He is sent to Bellex 3 to retrieve a sample of the designer drug Cobalt and to investigate what has happened to the Boundless medical crew that has mysteriously disappeared while investigating Cobalt overdoses on Bellex 3. His investigation leads him to Dr. Tyra Li and more than he was ready for. I really enjoyed this story. Tyra may be diminutive but she has a huge heart and takes no crap. This story poses a scary proposition for the future and it is good to know there will always be champions out there. This is the second in the series but can be read stand alone.

Defending Morgan (Mountain Mercenaries #3) by Susan Stoker

Blurb:
Protection leads to passion in New York Times bestselling author Susan Stoker’s dangerously hot Mountain Mercenaries adventure.

Dispatched to the Dominican Republic to rescue a kidnapped child, former Navy SEAL Archer “Arrow” Kane makes a startling discovery: another hostage—Morgan Byrd, a very beautiful and very well-known missing person who disappeared off the streets of Atlanta a year ago. She’s brave, resilient, and unbroken. All Arrow wants to know is why she ended up in a shack in Santo Domingo. All he feels is the desire to protect.

Morgan is done being the victim and is determined to find out who hates her so much that they want her gone—but not dead. Until then, she has Arrow, an alpha stranger who’s offering a warm and safe place to hide. But as the passion between them flares, so does the fear that whoever took Morgan will do anything to get her back. For Arrow, protecting this woman with a mysterious enemy is the most dangerous mission of his life. And it’s worth every beat of his heart.

My review:
Defending Morgan will break your heart and renew your faith in the healing power of love. Morgan is strong and smart and I love that Arrow saw that in her right away. I love that Arrow is patient and kind even though he is a fierce warrior. This story is a fabulous addition to the series. Make sure you have the tissues handy.

St. Nicholas Salvage & Wrecking by Dana Haynes

Blurb:
Michael Patrick Finnigan was a New York City cop and a US Marshal who figured out that following the rules doesn't always get the job done. Katalin Fiero Dahar was a soldier, spy, and assassin for Spain, who figured out that breaking the rules doesn't always get the job done.

Together, they created St. Nicholas Salvage & Wrecking, a largely illegal bounty hunting operation based in Cyprus and working throughout Europe. Operating under the radar for the presiding judge of the International Criminal Court, they track down the worst of the world's worst.

Someone is kidnapping Middle Eastern refugee children as they flee war-torn countries and selling them into prostitution around the world. Finnigan and Fiero get the assignment to track them down and save the refugees. But when they discover that the perpetrators are a Serbian mobster-with patronage at the highest levels of the United Nations-and a battalion of the Kosovo military, the partners reach out to their friends to find justice, including a corrupt banker, a cadre of mercenaries, and a crew of professional thieves.

The battle to stop the mass kidnappings ranges from Belgrade and Zagreb, to the Loire Valley and Milan, and to the plains of Kosovo. As Finnigan and Fiero close in, the conspirators realize that the judge of the ICC is the real threat and plan an assassination. Now the partners have to save their patron and the kidnapped refugees from a rogue military force with nothing left to lose.

My review:
St. Nicholas Salvage & Wrecking by Dana Haynes is a brilliantly crafted thriller. It has all the action, adventure and intrigue you would expect plus two incredible leading characters that make you want to see them succeed. Highly recommend. I’ve not read anything by this author before but you can be sure I will be checking them out now.

Blurb:
The end of the world as they knew it had come and gone, and the remnants of mankind struggle to survive in a barren landscape. Twenty-three-year-old Finn sets out on a desperate mission to scavenge for the much-needed medicine to help his sister. He knows better than to trust anyone, but when a total stranger saves him from a vicious gang, the unexpected act of kindness rekindles Finn’s lost faith in humanity.

The tentative friendship with his rescuer, Spencer, gradually turns into something more, and for the first time in years, Finn lets himself yearn for joy and hope in the dead of nuclear winter—right until Spencer goes missing.

They say love is the greatest power of all, but it seems it would take nothing short of a miracle to overcome the dangers that threaten to destroy Finn’s only chance for happiness and the lives of his loved ones.

My review:
Frost tells the tale of Finn and Spencer in a post-apocalyptic world struggling to survive and find a reason to keep on going. I liked Finn and his relationship with his sister and I loved Spencer’s view on life. I felt like the world was really depressing and it was only the budding relationship between Finn and Spencer that kept me turning pages.

Let's Talk About Sext (Let's Talk About Sext #1) by Evie Claire

Blurb:
Her: Unstoppable, workaholic, driven force of nature. Him: The exact opposite of that.

Phebe Stark needs a punching bag. No, on second thought, she needs a donut. No, on third thought, she needs to escape into a dark bar with a strong drink. She’s just been harassed, for the umpteenth time, by the slimy supervisor standing between her and a shattered glass ceiling at her high-pressure Atlanta firm. But then a tall, bearded, sexy lumberjack of a bartender saunters over, and suddenly Phebe knows she doesn’t need gin . . . she needs him.

Brody Cantrell didn’t exactly intend to become a bartender. He planned to help out at his ailing uncle’s bar for a year, then get an advanced degree and rise to the top of his field. Instead, he got a Ph.D. in Real Life from his customers. Brody thinks he’s seen everything—until he meets Phebe Stark. And when he gets a load of her fearless sexting skills, he just has to see what’s under that power suit. Brody’s certain they’ll have a good time or two—nothing serious. Then again, all these steamy messages and breathless trysts have him seriously considering . . . Why not?

My review:
Let's Talk About Sext is terrific! It is a modern day tale of love and romance (or the lack there of). Phebe is smart driven and successful mostly because she hides her femininity behind power suits and brass. Brody is more than a bartender and I love the role reversal. Phebe makes assumptions about Brody based on his job just as others make assumptions about her. The chemistry between the two is off the charts. I really enjoyed watching these two get together.

Marty's Horrible, Terrible, Very Bad Day (Accidentally Paranormal Series) by Dakota Cassidy

Blurb:
Marty's in a coma and the Grim Reaper's literally banging down her door...

For Roxanne McNally, being a grim reaper has never been easy. Now she hates her job more than usual, because she’s been charged with reaping the soul of a legend—werewolf Marty Andrews Flaherty. Marty, together with her equally iconic friends Nina and Wanda, are Rocky’s idols. To say she’s an OOPs fangirl is putting it mildly. No way is she willing to deal with eons of hate Tweets for taking the soul of a paranormal superstar. Reaping supernaturals isn’t even her gig. She’s strictly human-only. No. There must be some mistake with the list, and she’ll get to the bottom of it…if she can just ignore the distracting reappearance of a certain hunky doctor in her life.

Hudson Kahlil—frequently known as Dr. Sexypants among besotted patients and staff—could swear he knows Roxanne from somewhere. As a phoenix who’s regularly reincarnated with no previous knowledge of his past lives, he’s not surprised he can’t place her. Though he’d love to reacquaint himself…and he may get the chance, since they’re both temporarily staying at Marty Flaherty’s home, protecting her while racing to find an unknown threat.

Nina, Wanda and their assorted framily may be able to save Marty’s immortal soul from an enemy who’s plan is still unclear…but they can’t save Rocky from the backlash when her secret past connection to Hudson is finally revealed.

My review:
Marty's Horrible, Terrible, Very Bad Day is a hilarious blast for the rest of us. In this “It’s A Wonderful Life” type knock off Marty's in a coma and Nina, Wanda and the gang are at a loss. Add in a Grim Reaper, a phoenix and a gargoyle and things get really interesting. It was a blast revisiting with old friends and finding new ones. Dakota Cassidy and this series hasn’t lost a step.
