The Accidental Witch (Accidentals #16) by Dakota Cassidy

Blurb:

Who knew a silly game of Twister would turn into this?

After a spirited game of Twister with her fellow apartment mates, wherein the absence of the cardboard "spinny thing” forces them to use an old planchette from a Ouija board as a replacement, Roberta Tisdale’s left hand can, among other fun stuff, set things on fire—namely, her hair.

And right after meeting her, Nina’s hair, too.

Imagine how that conversation goes...

Just when Robbie was adjusting to her new life after turning her back on her wealthy family and their evil machinations, this happens, but she throws her whole body into this crazy magic she's happened upon, learning how to cast spells without taking out an entire country, and getting acquainted with her new ride, a talking broom named, Hervé (yep. Like the guy on Fantasy Island). All this in the hopes she can become a part of a community who’ll welcome her—a place where she can belong...

Greer Winthrop, a former male witch who’s lost his powers and placed a self-imposed isolation from his coven on himself, has an ugly past and an even uglier secret he’s carried with him for five years. Five painful years. When he gets wind of the scent of his dead grandmother’s magic, now lodged in Robbie’s hand, he’s all about teaching her how to use it while he waits to hear from his coven for advice.

Except, he never hears from his coven and he can’t figure out how his grandmother’s power is still floating around the universe when she’s supposed to be dead… Her magic should have died with her. Now, he’s got a fledgling witch on his hands with some mighty hefty power in her possession—power an insidious monster of a witch once owned. With his powers gone, Greer can only take Robbie so far without the help of his fellow witches.

But how can you do that when your coven members have literally disappeared and you can’t find them—anywhere?

As Robbie and Greer embark on her witch journey, and they find themselves fighting an undeniable attraction—an insidious evil lurks.

And that evil wants Robbie’s magic—no matter the cost!

My review:

Another laugh out loud adventure with the OOPS gang.  I love our accidental witch Robbie. She’s a poor little rich girl with a heart of gold that has the stones to go toe to toe with Nina. Hervé, Robbies newly acquired talking broom would give Lumière a run for his money.  A delightful escape.

Ask the Blood by K.G. Green

Blurb:

Joyce Randall is having a rough day.

Her teenage daughter failed her driver’s test again, extending Joyce’s chauffeur contract for at least another month; a horde of supercharged mean girls are bullying her middle child; her youngest was sent home from school for asking his teacher if her boobs were real; and her husband is gallivanting across the skies on another super-secret Air Force mission.

And, oh yeah, a misty entity that crossed over from the dark side is threatening to ravage the town she promised her dead mother she’d protect.

For the record, Joyce has no idea how to protect anything—she’s terrified of blood, guns, and snakes. But mist demons stalking kids with the intent to possess? That crosses too many lines.

Joyce wants to curl up with a good book and a box of her bestie’s homemade cannabis treats, but if the ancient magic in her veins has anything to say about it, this reluctant Bloodwitch will soon be forced to confront the invader with the power of her pedigree. Fingers crossed she can do it without barfing at the sight of her own blood.

My review:

I really enjoyed this story. I enjoyed watching Joyce deal with three very different children and her own burgeoning powers. Rikki was straight out of my nightmares. I do love how magic brought them closer. This story had some great laugh out loud moments.

A New Lease on Death (Supernatural Mysteries #1) by Olivia Blacke

Blurb:

Death is only the beginning in Olivia Blacke's A New Lease on Death, a darkly funny supernatural mystery that introduces an unlikely crime-solving duo.

Ruby Young's new Boston apartment comes with all the usual perks. Windows facing the brick wall of the next-door building. Heat that barely works. A malfunctioning buzzer. Noisy neighbors. A dead body on the sidewalk outside. And of course, a ghost.

Since Cordelia Graves died in her apartment a few months ago, she's kept up her residency, despite being bored out of her (non-tangible) skull and frustrated by her new roommate. When her across-the-hall neighbor, Jake Macintyre, is shot and killed in an apparent mugging gone wrong outside their building, Cordelia is convinced there’s more to it and is determined to bring his killer to justice.

Unfortunately, Cordelia, being dead herself, can't solve the mystery alone. She has to enlist the help of the obnoxiously perky, living tenant of her apartment. Ruby is twenty, annoying, and has never met a houseplant she couldn't kill. But she also can do everything Cordelia can't, from interviewing suspects to researching Jake on the library computers that go up in a puff of smoke if Cordelia gets too close. As the roommates form an unlikely friendship and get closer to the truth about Jake's death, they also start to uncover other dangerous secrets.

My review:

A New Lease on Death is a new twist on the ghost as an investigative tool. I really enjoyed the camaraderie between Cordelia and Ruby. The mystery was intriguing and leaves us with more to learn. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Ruby and Cordelia’s relationship grow as they solve Jakes murder. Bring on the next installment.

Fletcher (Thornscore #2) by E.G. Manetti

Blurb:

A broken warrior. A woman's frozen heart. An adventure into the unknown.

FLETCHER

Once a galaxy-renowned Moon Racer, Fletcher’s competitive career ended in the battle for the Thirteenth System. Shot down over Bright Star Deuce, he was fortunate to survive, his left arm and leg replaced with state-of-the-art prosthetics.
Now only half a warrior, he is relegated to testing new technologies for Serengeti.

The first step is the Fourth System, where the technology will be tested before being deployed to the Thirteenth System. However, there are forces in the Thirteen Systems that do not want the colonization to succeed and will do anything to ensure the expedition’s failure.

When chance places Clarice on the same transport to the Fourth System, he discovers the former apprentice has developed into a beguiling woman. Torn between duty and desire, he must forge a new path into the future.

CLARICE

Once a lowly apprentice, her skill, courage, and honor promoted Clarice to legalistics protégé. Through years of deprivation, she learned to value every success. Years of humiliation have conditioned her to weigh every relationship for benefit and never risk her heart.

Handsome, charismatic, and a warrior of impeccable lineage, Fletcher Detrenti has been on the periphery of her life for half a decade. She admired his bravery, respected his honor, and enjoyed his easygoing nature. She was shocked by the withdrawn and taciturn man who returned from war. Bound for a distant system in his company, she cannot resist the pull between them.

My review:

Fantastic! For those who haven’t read the authors previous books (do go back and enjoy) in this world it might be a little daunting getting started but if you concentrate on the characters the world will fall into place for a terrific adventure.

Eye of the Buyer: A Night To Remember Auction by K.R. Hall

Blurb:

Callie Foster is at a loss for how to care for her twin daughters. She needs to come up with her copay so her girls can get new kidneys. Life of a single mom doesn’t leave much wiggle room in the budget for costly buys. Knowing her girls need life-saving care means she will do just about anything to help them.

Dewayne Doyle is a computer genius. His dealings with women, on the other hand, are greatly lacking. He is absolutely clueless when it comes to female interactions. So he enlists his three buddies to help him out. Their plan, on the other hand, is to attend the auctions at Club Lust.

Is Callie open-minded enough to be someone’s merchandise from Friday till Sunday at midnight? Is this just what Dewayne needs?

My review:

A sweet and smexy tale of a single mother doing what she must to provide for her daughters and finding happiness along the way.  I loved how strong Callie was and fell for Dewayne along with her.

Ultimate Justice (K-9 Special Ops Book 3) by Tee O'Fallon

Blurb:

Some truths are worth dying for.

While tracking down an escaped felon, FBI Special Agent Evan McGarry and his K-9, Blue, uncover a smoking hot lead on the location of dozens of missing children―including Evan's own sister. The shocking discovery reopens cold cases throughout Colorado, along with painful wounds and the heartbreaking guilt Evan's kept buried for decades.

Three years ago, hospital custodian Marlie Foxe's world imploded, causing her to cut herself off from the world. But when one of the missing boys turns up at her hospital, he only allows Marlie to get close. Now, Evan needs her help with the boy―and he won't take no for an answer. When she finally agrees to work with him, Evan suspects there's more to the woman than she's letting on. She's hiding something. The question is what.

As Evan and Marlie unearth a cult targeting runaways, they're forced to confront not only dangerous criminals but the truths they've both been avoiding―including the blistering passion they can no longer deny. But when more children disappear, they'll have to risk more than just their hearts.

My review:

This story tore me up. Evan and Marlie each have a tragedy in their past that they have pushed aside to get through the day to day of life. A new event brings them together to save a boy’s life and perhaps save more children. Watching these two heal was like watching a rainbow come out from behind a cloud. This story left me with a happy heart,
