Her Alien Cyborgs (The Drift: Haven Colony #10) by Susan Hayes

Blurb:

The only thing that ever came easy for her was trouble.

After a lifetime of busting her ass and bending the law just to scrape by, Hezza is running on fumes. Her ship is even older than she is, and both are feeling their age. Is she ready to retire? Hell no. Hanging up her flight suit is the last thing she wants, even if it’s the smart thing to do.

Before she can make that choice, though, trouble finds her again… and this time it comes with a double order of hard muscles, sinful smiles, and alpha attitude.

They had nothing. No past. No future. No names. Then she appeared… and everything changed.

Subjects Six and Seven are failed experiments. Created in secret using banned technology and stolen DNA, they were crafted as weapons for a not-so-distant war. Too stubborn to be controlled and too valuable to terminate, they exist only to serve… and to dream of freedom.

Fate brought three battered hearts together, but it will take more than luck to survive the coming storm. Hezza is their key to happiness, and the cyborgs are her first rays of hope in a life spent in the shadows. Together, they’re going to change the galaxy… or die trying.

My review:

Hezza has been co-opted into helping two hunky cyborgs escape captivity and help them being recaptured and put into captivity by the IVF. What neither Hezza nor the cyborgs expect is to find their soul mates. I love that this features an older heroine who can still kick butt and take names but is kind of vulnerable when it comes to the opposite sex and feelings. I really enjoyed the theme of freedom and choices.

Colorado K-9 Rescue by Kathleen Donnelly

Blurb:

A kidnapper’s twisted game is on.

And a trusty K-9 won’t let him succeed.

Years after being abducted, Mckenna Parker’s worst nightmare has come true—her kidnapper is out on parole. And he’s after her again. Now an FBI victim specialist, she and her crisis canine, Mocha, have been assigned to a case with FBI agent Evan Knox. Together they must find two local girls who disappeared. As passionate as Mckenna is about helping others, Evan is ambitious about his career. Both have sworn off love. But when Mckenna vanishes into the mountain wilderness, it’s Evan—with Mocha’s amazing help—who braves danger at all costs.

My review:

As a young woman Mckenna escaped her kidnapper and survived. Now 12 years later she uses that experience as an FBI victim specialist. Now there is a kidnapping that eerily echoes hers.  Hunky FBI agent Evan Knox is on the case and they need to work together to find the kidnapper and his victims.

Mckenna is incredibly strong. She has to revisit her mindset after her kidnapping again and again to help victims and assist the FBI get information from victims after trauma.  Her adorable lab is a natural at helping people cope with the trauma. This case hits close to home. Having Evan believe in her heals a part of her she didn’t know needed healing. I really enjoyed this fast paced mystery.

Crimson Faded by Caerys Callaghan

Blurb:

Hazel Bridget is a firm believer in coincidences.

Having grown up in a small British town, where the only thing to ever happen was the odd shoplifting scandal, she’s used to living a quiet, uncomplicated life.

That is, until the hunter who’s been haunting her dreams turns up, and starts hunting something else.

Oddly familiar, and with a tendency to carry around small hunting daggers, Lucas thinks he’s being discreet. He isn’t. But as Hazel tries to figure him out, she realises he isn't the only one acting strangely. There's something off about her ex-best-friend, Ophelia Thorn, and it’s not just her snide comments.

Caleb, Ophelia’s sweet, distractingly handsome older brother, seems to be the only one willing to give Hazel the answers she’s after.

Unfortunately, she's not the only one searching for the truth…

My review:

Teenage vampires, vampire hunters and a battle as old as time. This book deals with change and overcoming unreasonable hate and indoctrination. This story had me hooked from the very first page and kept me thinking long past the last page.

Dog Days and Killer Nights (Pupcakes and Peril Book 3) by Paige Tyler

Dog Days and Killer Nights (Pupcakes and Peril Book 3) by Paige Tyler

Blurb:

Pupcakes Bakery owner (and amateur sleuth) Tassie Drake must admit, things have been almost doggone perfect around Bluewater Bay. The warm summer weather has brought plenty of tourists to town (and to her bakery!), the Dog Days Festival is in full swing, and there hasn’t been a murder for almost three months!

Not to be selfish, but no murders mean more free time with her handsome boyfriend, detective Jack Sterling. Who would say no to that? Not Tassie, and not her Chiweenie, Baxter; he loves Jack as much as she––oops! (Love!? Was she ready for the “L” word?) Unfortunately, Tassie doesn’t have time to consider her romantic feelings. When one of her high school classmates is found strangled at the festival––with a dog leash, no less––half the town is a suspect. And that means it’s time to dust off her sleuthing shoes so she and Baxter can help Jack investigate.

But the deeper they dig, the more proverbial skeletons they uncover, and Tassie soon realizes Bluewater Bay may not be the quaint town she thought. More than one person she calls ‘neighbor’ is capable of murder…

My review:

Dog Days and Killer Nights is another adorable adventure with Tassie and Baxter.  Things are heating up between Tassie and Detective Jack Sterling. But while attending the Dog Days Festival one of Bluewater Bay’s less than stellar citizens is discovered dead and there are no shortage of suspects. Tassie and Baxter have their work cut out for them.

I love this series. Baxter once again steals the show. An adorable escape.

Aïdes The Unseen: A Hades and Persephone Romantasy by Heather Long

Blurb:

A love lost to time. A truth buried in myth. A goddess reborn.

For centuries, the Lord of the Dead has searched for her—his queen, his soul’s twin, scattered across mortal lives and fading memories. She is Irina now, unaware of who she was, haunted by dreams that aren't dreams, shadowed by gods who remember too much.

But something is waking.

Drawn together by fate, Irina and Graven—Aïdes, unseen ruler of the Underworld—find each other once more. But to reclaim her full self, Irina must walk through every life she’s lived, every truth she was denied, and confront the oldest lie of all: that she was ever a girl stolen.

From the twisted corridors of memory to the roots of the olive tree where her name was buried, Irina will unearth the keys to her power, her past, and her future. But some gods will stop at nothing to keep her bound—and Aïdes will burn the world before letting her be taken again.

This time, she chooses.

A mythic love story woven through time and shadow, Aïdes the Unseen is a lyrical, devastating reclamation of self, agency, and love that endures beyond death.

My review:

Aïdes the Unseen is a wonderful take on the Hades and Persephone story. This thoughtful tale follows Persephone on a journey through time as she struggles to find her way back to herself. Through many lives she becomes more but throughout her love for Hades prevails. But something is keeping them from being together. In her current life she finally feels strong enough to find the truth. But the obstacles of the past are still in play. Can she overcome and still choose love?

I ached for them and angered at the forces keeping them apart. But it wasn’t in vain as lessons learned along the way are never wasted. I truly enjoyed this saga.

Unholy Gambit: Checkmate in Blood (A Paranormal Halloween #5) by Candace Blevins

Unholy Gambit: Checkmate in Blood (A Paranormal Halloween #5) by Candace Blevins

Blurb:

He buried her memories to protect her. She was never meant to remember the vampire who saved her.

Aurélie de Saint Claire was five years old when she threw herself at a monster to save her mother’s life. She doesn’t remember the blood. Doesn’t remember the fangs. Just the fallout: bones that never healed right, a limp that became her identity, and a fear she could never explain.

Now twenty-three, she’s a rising star in the international chess circuit, with a brilliant mind, a body that never fully healed, and a past that’s beginning to unravel. When the truth begins to resurface, so does the dark, distant immortal who once silenced her pain with a thought and walked away without a trace. He’s cold, controlled, and undeniably inhuman — and he’s watched her grow from half a world away.

Axel was never supposed to interfere, but a single encounter changed everything. The tiny child was too fiercely brave, too brilliant, too intense. For the first time in his long life, he broke the rules to save a life. He’s never been the same.

She was brave before most children can tie their shoes, and now she’s a woman who tempts him in ways that have nothing to do with innocence.

He rewrote her memories and vanished, but she was his the moment she stood on shattered legs and faced a monster. Their bond should have died when he erased her memories. It didn’t.

Now that Aury is remembering, the bond is waking up, and it’s still alive. Still functional. Still binding them both.

As she digs into the scars left behind, she’s dragged into a world of vampire law, ancient debts, and a game more dangerous than she ever imagined.

Because this isn’t just about what happened that night. It’s about the bond they forged, and buried obsessions can rise from the dark and crawl back. Fangs first.

Even erased memories leave scars.

Unholy Gambit is a standalone vanilla vampire paranormal holiday romance set around Halloween. Perfect for readers who crave slow burns with a big payoff, emotionally damaged possessive heroes, sexy vampires, smart heroines who happen to be virgin, high-stakes chess, trauma recovery, dark secrets, and a love worth bleeding for.

My review:

Unholy Gambit features complex characters and new beginnings. She is intelligent and self-aware. He is a vampire with a vicious past who has never felt love for another. These two may have been brought together by horrible circumstances but they now have a chance to explore a future together. I love Aury and her outlook on life.  Axel has made a lot of bad decisions in his long existence but they’ve led him to this moment in time and a chance at love and happiness.

Voluntary Pain by Irina Semikop

Blurb:

Some girls choose love.
Some choose pain.
Sophie and Caroline chose both.

They were strangers.
Different lives, different worlds, but the same mistake —
falling for men who were never truly theirs to begin with.

One week apart, both women were found dead.
No struggle. Just silence.

Detective Angelina von Stein wasn’t supposed to share this case.
But now she’s working alongside two men she never wanted on her team,
especially the one who’s made her feel too much for far too long.

The trail leads to one therapist’s office.
A place that promised safety… and delivered anything but.

The deeper they dig, the darker it gets.
Obsession, grief, control, and the quiet unraveling of someone no one thought capable.
Because the most dangerous kind of hurt… is the one that learns how to hide.

Voluntary Pain is a sharp, intimate psychological thriller about secrets, patterns,
and the kind of love we never admit out loud.

Enter for the murder.
Stay for the part that hits too close to home.

After all… haven’t we all, at least once,
chosen something we knew would hurt?

My review:

Voluntary Pain is a smart, mind-bending tale of murder and manipulation that will take you to unlikely places with twists of the imagination. I didn’t know what to expect when I picked up this book but no way could I have imagined what took place on the pages. I was instantly enthralled and found it hard to put down. This is the type of story that will stick with you way after the last page.

My review:

I’ll admit I almost didn’t get through the prologue. It hurt my heart to see a parent treat their child like Abby’s parents treated her. But I pushed through and got to watch Abby become the woman she was always meant to be. Her story is filled with love, laughs and mishaps but she pushes on.

All in all Psychic in Suburbia is an enjoyable adventure once you get past the prologue.

Sugar Plums and Death's Intern by D.C. Gomez

Blurb:

What’s the worst way to spend a weekend with your quirky, magical team?
A team-building retreat, of course.

When Constantine drags the crew to Hochatown, OK, for some "bonding," no one’s thrilled. Bob’s only focus is the bake-off, which is already shaping up to be a recipe for disaster. But when a group of thieves launches a high-stakes heist in the middle of their supposed downtime, things go south faster than you can say “sugar plums.”

Now, it’s not just about surviving each other’s company—it’s about surviving in a town where the dead have a nasty habit of showing up, and everyone has a secret. Between eccentric family reunions, a string of bodies dropping like flies, and a magical showdown that’s anything but ordinary, the team will have to navigate the chaos or risk becoming part of the mess themselves.

In this hilarious, fast-paced urban fantasy adventure, Sugar Plums and Death’s Intern proves that sometimes, the real danger comes from the family you never asked for—and the enemies you never saw coming.

Sugar Plums and Death’s Intern is book nine in The Enchanted Woods Cottagecore Series.

This book is set in the Reapers Universe. A stand-alone misadventure from the Intern Diaries. You don’t need the full files to survive this story. If you enjoy Supernatural and True Blood, the crew of Sugar Plums and Death’s Intern will keep you turning pages while wishing you were in your own cottage sipping tea.

My review:

Somebody really should keep Constantine away from the internet and YouTube. He’s got the interns in the middle of the woods in the middle of nowhere on a team building weekend. Wackiness ensues. I gigglesnorrted and guffawed my way through this adventure filled with quirky characters, adventure and love. A total winner.

Koa's Little Girl (Soldier Daddies) by Pepper North

Blurb:

"Are you a daddy?"

Giana felt brave as she left the note with that simple question at the base for special forces officer Koa Lokela, but the moment he gave her his answer she was soaking wet and blushing crimson.

Now he's undressing her and carrying her to his bed to claim her as his not just in her naughtiest fantasies but for real.

And soon he'll be spanking her bare bottom when she's been a bad girl, bathing her and tucking her in with a kiss after a hard day, and sometimes even putting her in diapers, taking her temperature, or bringing her to the squad medic for a thorough examination while he watches.

Because his answer was yes.

My review:

Koa's Little Girl is an adorable age play romance. Giana is in a high stress job with real responsibility when she’s not at work she likes to let it all go and just be little and let Daddy take care of her. Can the hot special forces officer Koa Lokela be the Daddy she’s been looking for? Can she trust him with her little? I had so much fun from their meet cute to the very last page.

Blurb:

Perfect for fans of quirky small towns, canine sidekicks, and paranormal mysteries with bite, A Wedding Pit-astrophy proves that in Moonrise, true love might be forever—but so is murder.

My review:

In this fun episode The Moonrise murder mystery club runs side by side with wedding preparations. Lily and Parker and Buzz and Nadine are planning a double wedding! Nerves are to be expected. A dead body is not. But it’s not the first time Lily’s stumbled over a body. She is not going to let anything ruin her wedding. "Der mentsh trakht un got lakht" ("Man plans and God laughs").

I laughed and sighed my way through this terrific addition to the series.

Bottoms Up (Mythic Beast #4) by Candace Blevins

Blurb:

Book Two of the Rock Bottom Duet

When a magical necklace chooses you, surviving supernatural society becomes the least of your problems.

Silver thought learning about vampires, werewolves, and dragons was challenging enough. Then a freaking magical artifact decided to make her its new owner — and suddenly she's caught in the crossfire of Julian's fight for freedom.

Julian has been owned for nearly three centuries. First by an opera company, then by his vampire maker. His current owner, the local Master Vampire, devises a path to his freedom — but the price is steeper than either he or Silver could have imagined.

Silver has survived everything supernatural society could throw at her, and she's navigated a world of fangs and claws on her own terms. But when Julian's quest for freedom demands she participate in the trial-by-fire, she discovers that loving someone means being willing to fight battles you never saw coming.

The road to Julian's independence demands sacrifices that will test them both. Silver must provide control far beyond anything she's ever been asked to give. Julian must prove he can become a man worthy of freedom — and of Silver's love — even when it means enduring punishments that push him far past his breaking point.

In a world where vampires play by different rules and demons make tempting offers, some relationships are forged in fire. Silver and Julian's love will either emerge stronger than ever, or be destroyed along the route they are required to travel.

The hurdles seem insurmountable, but both are determined to walk this path together.

Happily ever after was never going to come easy.

Warning: Contains explicit scenes, BDSM elements, supernatural power dynamics, and the kind of love worth fighting Hell itself to claim.

My review:

Bottoms Up is a brutal, dark continuation of Julian and Silver’s story. In this installment we find out more about the magical necklace that has claimed Silver. We also witness Julians efforts to be come a freed man. We also learn more about Silver’s brother Benji. And just as things start to settle we meet Atlas a masochistic jaguar shifter.  This book is not for the faint of heart. Vampire society is cruel and to get through the tests Julian and Silver make Gavin look soft.

Last Chance Seduction (Montgomery Ink Legacy #9) by Carrie Ann Ryan

Last Chance Seduction (Montgomery Ink Legacy #9) by Carrie Ann Ryan

Blurb:

The last time I saw Lexington Montgomery, he held my sister in his arms as my fiancé left me at the altar.

Neither one of us knew it would be two years until we saw each other again. Or that it would be the last time my sister was part of our core group.

Grieving, I’m back in Colorado trying to start over. I have no family and have no intention of dating ever again.

Only fate has other plans because Lexington Montgomery is my new neighbor.

I want to stay away from him, but there’s no chance of that now. Especially when his ex shows up to rub her new husband—and the chance at his dream job—in his face.

I didn’t mean to do it, but now I’m Lex’s fake girlfriend over the holidays and there’s nothing fake about the attraction between us.

Except once we finally give in, it turns out the past I ran from wasn’t so far away after all. And the dangers we never saw coming might end what we have—fake or not—before we even have a chance.

**Last Chance Seduction is a fake relationship, forced proximity, holiday romance in the Montgomery Ink Legacy series featuring Lexington and Mercy. Each book can be read as a complete standalone. An HEA is guaranteed!**

My review:

Sweet, heartwarming and sexy. Last Chance Seduction features Lex and Mercy and all the fun that comes with fake dating that turns into so much more. Lex is suffering from last man standing syndrome and wants to join the rest of the happily in loves. He’s the guy that girls date just before their happily ever after but they don’t seem to find it with him. Then there’s Mercy the girl he crushed on before his buddy called dibs. But they’re both free now and just maybe they can fake their way to a happy ever after of their own. Another fun Montgomery romance.

As a Last Resort by Kristin Wollett

Blurb:

Opposites attract when a real estate developer's quest for a promotion returns her to the coastal hometown she loathes—where she's reunited with her teenage crush turned town golden boy.

There’s no place like home…and that’s exactly how real estate developer Samantha Leigh plans to keep it. When she ditched Rock Island, Florida for New York City, Sam left everything behind—her alcoholic mother, the high school bullies, her ex-best friend, and her first crush, Austin Marcs. She’s never looked back—until her boss ambushes her with an extended assignment on Rock Island, where promotion will be on the line. Sam has no choice but to book a flight home . . .

. . . to where nothing has changed. Her mom still drinks, the mean girls became mean-girl mommies, and Austin? The town’s golden boy is now its favorite ferryboat captain—still smoking hot, inexplicably devoted to the island, and Sam’s total opposite in every way. He insists Rock Island is perfect as is, without her big corporate ideas, and he’s determined to prove it. Before long, Austin’s personal tours of sandy beaches and swoony sunsets almost make Sam forget her hometown hate. But is falling for the guy—and the town—she left behind worth the risk?

My review:

As a Last Resort by Kristin Wollett is a delightful rom-com by an exciting new author.

This story has our leading lady struggling against the good old boys club at work and just trying to get by. When a job assignment has her going back to Florida and the small town she grew up in. Sam is less than thrilled.

Austin is Sam’s former BFF’s older brother and the boy she had a crush on throughout her teens. Austin is a thoroughly nice guy and unlike the guys Sam knows in New York.

I truly enjoyed getting to know Sam and Austin and watching them discover what was really important in life.

Shift of Morals (Shifter Lords Book 2) by S.E. Babin

Blurb:

What do you get when you mix one hot shifter, one angry god, and an absolutely zero chance of keeping things low-key?

A whole bunch of trouble, that's what.

Life was so much simpler when Evie's problems consisted of picking the perfect peony. Now she's got the gods on her tail and shifters trying to sniff out her secrets.

Then there's the smoking hot Shifter Lord who has never once thrown a party, hiring her for all kinds of pack events and doing his best to convince her to trust him. But he has an agenda of his own, and Evie is far too smart to let her guard down.
On top of that, there's a new god in town, one who's way too good at identifying bloodlines and scenting out lies. She'll have to dig deep and muster up some of her rusty acting skills to escape his notice, while trying to keep her identity hidden from the rest of the world so intent on finding her.

And if that wasn't enough, someone is trying to kill her, and they're getting close to succeeding.

Surviving will require placing her trust in the unlikeliest of allies and deciding just how long she can keep pretending she's only a demure little florist who has an unfortunate black thumb for drama.

Evie is still a florist. Still a fraud. And still trying to pretend she's not falling in love.

My review:

Have you read Shift of Heart (Shifter Lords Book 1)? No? Go read that then come and read this EPIC second installment. Filled with magic, really bad guys, gods and politics poor Evie has her hands full in this fast-paced tale. As many answers as we get there are two more questions to take their place. I can’t wait for the next book. Folks I can’t recommend this series enough.

Will their love break centuries-old divisions, or will their forbidden romance lead to their undoing? Find out in this epic tale of magic, betrayal, and destiny.

My review:

Rivals of Sea and Sky (The Avalon Courts, 1) by Marianne Morea is an enthralling tale filled with danger, political intrigue and love. Our heroine is the smart twin a good girl thanks to the guards her mother the queen has set upon her and her own nature.  Our hero is the heir to the throne of a rival court.

This story gave me all the feels. I loved that the sisters supported each other. I loved that Eden was willing to give up the throne for a love worthy of the sacrifice. I can’t wait to see where their adventures lead them next.

Justified Fear (TFH Team Bravo Book 2) by Melissa Schroeder

Justified Fear (TFH Team Bravo Book 2) by Melissa Schroeder

Blurb:

Fearing the bad dudes after her seems normal, but her real fear is trusting a man with her heart.

Keely Templeton has rotten luck. At least lately, everything seems to be going wrong. First, she finds her now ex screwing his secretary--in their bed. Then, she loses her job on the mainland. Now, she's running for her life in the jungles of Hawaii. It was supposed to be the night that her private chef business took off, instead, some bad dudes showed up and killed everyone in the house, except her. Climbing up a tree and hiding from bad dudes seems like a good plan, until it starts raining. But in one instant, everything changes when a hot guy shows up to rescue her.

Ryan Morrison joined TFH Team Bravo after years with the LAPD. He'd left there were scars--both physical and mental. But there is one thing he is certain about: his partner Maya. They have been together for years, and when they find Keely hanging from a tree, his whole world changes. Coaxing the gorgeous woman out of the tree takes a little work. Once he does, he is utterly and completely enchanted with her. Still, there's suspicion that she might have been in on the killing.

Once there are more attempts on her life, the team realizes that she had nothing to do with the attack and she might be the intended victim. Ryan takes on the job of protecting her, and their attraction goes from simmering to full on heatwave in the blink of an eye. As the danger ramps up, they must delve into her past to search out the stalker. But for Keely, facing her past is easier than admitting her love for man who could destroy her.

Author Note: We're back with TFH and they are up to their usual antics. There's snarky banter, bets flying around the office, and wedding plans in the making. There is also a lot of food talk (Keely IS a chef) and an adorable rescue dog who might be the love of Keely's life.

My review:

Justified Fear is an exciting romantic suspense that will have you flipping pages and holding your breath. Ryan and Keely are made for each other and Maya is just adorable. A fantastic addition to the TFH family.

Hero & Villain: Getting Revenge on my Billionaire Arch-Nemesis (Super Serum Billionaires Book 1) by Juliann Whicker

Hero & Villain: Getting Revenge on my Billionaire Arch-Nemesis

(Super Serum Billionaires Book 1) by Juliann Whicker

Blurb:

A Romantic Suspense Dark Comedy Duology.

In this dark romantic comedy, put away your notions of happily ever after because Daniela Delavigne's about to rewrite those rules—with an infuriating billionaire tech genius and a mountain of chaos. Also a mountain lion of chaos.

All Daniela wanted was to enjoy life as a fiercely independent heiress with a penchant for corporate take-overs and private cello lesson. Being betrayed by her fiancé, the obvious solution is to run away to Las Vegas to get revenge, seducing the monster, Dirk Dagger, who ruined her life and her business deal. Vegas wasn't on her five-year plan. But hey, as long as she can get her vengeance on the ground floor, the acrophobic has everything under control.

When a group of vigilantes take over her secret identity, Daniela finds herself swept into an impossibly chaotic existence filled with neon-lit Las Vegas escapades. Worst of all, away from her diabolical family, she starts to think that maybe she's not cut out for a life of villainy.

Dirk's on a mission of his own, duking it out with high-tech billionaires and evil family members, all while maintaining that perfect jawline and infuriating charm. He'll do everything he can to save Daniela whether she wants to be saved or not.

So what’s a girl to do when she’s stuck on a thrill ride with a man who might be her downfall or her destiny? Lean in, of course, especially when the stakes involve dancing on the edge of illicit romance and demolition-worthy fireworks.

Super Serum Billionaires is a dark comedy romantic suspense series with psychological issues, slow burn, and a side of paranormal. This is the first book in a duology in the Super Serum Billionaire world.

My review:

Whew! Getting Revenge on my Billionaire Arch-Nemesis is a rollercoaster ride that will have you laughing in no time. With a crazy supporting cast Dirk and Dani are terrific foils for each other. I absolutely loved this tale and can’t wait for the next installment.
