Shattering Dawn (The Lost Night Files Book 3) by Jayne Ann Krentz

Blurb:

An unsettling investigation teaches two deeply suspicious people how to trust in the next thrilling novel of the Lost Night Files trilogy by New York Times bestselling author Jayne Ann Krentz.

Amelia Rivers, a member of the Lost Night Files podcast team, hires private investigator Gideon Sweetwater to catch the stalker who has been watching her. Amelia suspects the stalker may be connected to the shadowy organization responsible for the night that she and her two friends lost to amnesia—a night that upended their lives and left them with paranormal talents.

Gideon suspects that Amelia is either paranoid or an outright con artist, but he can’t resist the chemistry between them. He takes the case despite his skepticism. For her part, Amelia has second thoughts about the wisdom of employing the mysterious Mr. Sweetwater. She is wary of the powerful attraction between them, and deeply uneasy about the nightmarish paintings on the walls of his home. She senses they were inspired by his own dreamscapes.

Amelia knows she doesn’t have time to find another investigator, and Gideon is forced to reckon with the truth when he disrupts what was intended to be Amelia’s kidnapping. Now the pair is on the run, with no choice but to return to the haunting ruins of the old hotel where Amelia’s lost night occurred. They are desperate to stop a killer and the people who are conducting illegal experiments with a dangerous drug that is designed to enhance psychic abilities. If they are to survive, they will have to trust each other and the passion that bonds them.

My review:

We finally find out what happened during the Lost Night in this thrilling adventure that wraps up the Lost Night mystery. Amelia is smart, sassy and empathetic. Gideon is grumpy and gifted. Between the two of them they manage to air the mystery that has plagued Amelia and her friends. I really enjoyed this exciting episode.

The Forever Rule (The Cage Family #1) by Carrie Ann Ryan

Blurb:

What happens when the man you’d thought could be the one turns out to be your new boss?

Blakely
The moment I met Aston Cage, I knew my life had changed. A single dance later, we’re both all in. Until he ghosted me.
Then my boss fires me for dancing with the enemy.
Three months later, working for the Cages is my last resort. Now I’ll work beside him day by day, trying not to let my feelings take control. It’s heaven and hell. Except I’m starting to think there’s a part of this story I’m missing…

Aston
I made myself walk away from Blakely after my family’s dirty laundry hit the news. My father’s secret family complicates everything. In order to keep our inheritance intact, we’re forced to do monthly dinners with both sides of the family—the brothers I grew up with and the new set of siblings we never knew about.
An additional obstacle: Blakely is my new sister’s best friend.
Meaning the moment I give into temptation, I not only risk the woman I’m falling for, but the family legacy just starting to reveal itself.
But Blakley is worth it. I just have to prove I am as well.

**The Forever Rule is a missed connection, workplace, big city meets small town romance featuring Aston and Blakely. Each book can be read as a complete standalone. An HEA is guaranteed!*

My review:

After the best “meet cute” Blakely gets ghosted and then slammed by her boss and fired. Now she’s been blacklisted in her field, and she must face her ghosts if she’s going to ever work again. This is a fun rom-com that I heartily recommend.

Pawfully Wedded by Diane Kelly

Blurb:

Fort Worth Police Officer Megan Luz and her fiancĂ©, firefighter Seth Rutledge, will soon be walking down the aisle—assuming they live to see their wedding day ...

WHEN A STRANGER CALLS, CHAOS ENSUES.

A series of bogus reports of active shooters has rattled the Fort Worth PD. The SWAT team has been repeatedly deployed to what turn out to be nonevents. When no connection can be made between the “swatting” calls, Megan’s mentor, Detective Bustamente, is at a loss. Are the phony calls being made by copycat criminals, or is there a link they haven’t yet been able to identify? Megan and Brigit join the investigation. But will they be able to stop the calls before the department’s reaction turns deadly?

THEN THINGS GET EVEN HOTTER.

If the bogus shooter calls aren’t enough to keep our favorite first responders on their toes and on edge, an elusive arsonist seems intent on pushing the city’s firefighters to their limits, with increasingly dangerous results. Who is setting the fires and why? The fire and police departments team up to track the sinister offender, whose offenses hit closer and closer to home. Can the felonious firebug be found before his efforts turn fatal?

My review:

Just because Megan and Seth are getting married, crime and fires don’t stop. This fun story tells the tale of fire and crime meshing not in a good way. This story had me guessing and left me with a big smile.

The Accidental Detectives: It's Called Murder, Brenda. Look It Up (Accidental Detective Mystery #1) by Dakota Cassidy

The Accidental Detectives: It's Called Murder, Brenda. Look It Up (Accidental Detective Mystery #1) by Dakota Cassidy

Blurb:

Welcome to my worst effin’ nightmare—The Accidental Detective Agency…

I’m Nina Statleon, a vampire (with a little bit of witch thrown in for good measure—a sucky, magic less one), for those interested. My best friends, Marty, a werewolf and and Wanda, a halfsie, have talked me into opening a detective agency for paranormals.

Let me be real clear, I do not want to be a detective and I think this idea is bananapants. Now the dungeon in my castle in Long Island is our new office, I call the murder basement, filled with watercolor landscapes, throw rugs and uncomfortable furniture—all in the name of making our clients comfortable.

That said, my partners in this new adventure don’t care about all my protests. That’s how we end up with our first client, Brenda Bronkowski, an older vampire the human police are hunting down for murder

Brenda fell for one of the oldest tricks in this new age of technology’s book—a romance scam. Lonely and sad with only her pets for companionship, Brenda hooked up—with a human—a much younger one. You guessed it, Brenda was catfished.

Now that much younger human, Owen Barker, is dead, leaving behind a wife and two kids. Brenda swears she’s never even met him, let alone murdered him and she’s come to us for help finding the person responsible for his murder.

Not only is the suspect list low (like, we only have two), there’s a glitch, and it’s a big one.

The clan.

They don’t like it when a vampire’s been accused of murdering a human. They take you out, ask questions later. Brenda’s technically a fugitive we’re harboring while we investigate. It’s bad enough the human police like her for Owen's murder, but if the clan finds out we’ve got her holed up in the murder basement, it won’t only be curtains for Brenda, our little private investigating gig could be over before it’s really begun.

Which wouldn’t exactly be the end of the world for me, but my overachieving BFFs would never let me hear the end of it. That means, we need to solve this pronto, so we can get the clan off our backs, but more importantly, so Brenda doesn’t end up expunged...

My review:
The OOPS gang has a spin off. The OOPS folks are branching out. Not only are they guiding accidental paranormals they are now investigating paranormal crimes. Their first case is a doozy as they fumble along to solve the case of the catfished vampire. I absolutely love these characters and am glad to see them stretch their wings.

My review:

A Witchin' Pitsgiving is a fun Barkside of the Moon Mystery-Witchin' Impossible Crossover. Lily and Parker invite their friends to a Thanksgiving dinner. They are determined to embrace the future among family and friends. Sadly they have an uninvited guest equally determined on preventing their happiness. Without giving it away I can only say … this is a fantastic story.
