A Mate for the Christmas Dragon (A Mate for Christmas #1) by Zoe Chant

A Mate for the Christmas Dragon (A Mate for Christmas #1) by Zoe Chant

Blurb:

Jasper Heartwell has five days to win his mate's heart.

Jasper is a dragon on a mission. If he doesn’t find his mate by his twenty-fifth birthday, he’ll lose his ability to shift, and be stuck as either a human or a dragon forever. Luckily, his birthday is on Christmas Day. What woman could resist the spark of romance during the most wonderful time of the year?

Abigail George hates Christmas.

Most wonderful time of the year? Abigail knows that's a lie. She hates the fake snow, the cheesy carols, the hordes of shoppers that save their Christmas cheer for everyone except shop workers—and most of all, she hates going home to her empty apartment on Christmas Eve. Jasper knows Abigail’s the one for him the moment he sees her. But can the Christmas dragon win his mate’s heart, when Christmas is the one thing she hates the most?

My review:

A fast paced grumpy /sunshine Christmastime tale that will make you smile and leave you with a full heart.

Have a Bear-y Little Christmas by Roxie Ray

Blurb:

When a grizzly shifter and a human woman collide at the town ice rink, Christmas gets complicated—fast.

They’re both single parents. Both a little broken. And both about to find out that fate doesn’t care about timing—it only cares about love.

For readers who
single parents doing their best
grumpy-sweet shifters who cook breakfast and apologize when they’re wrong
and kids who steal the show...

My review:

This is a heartwarming tale of a single girl dad resigned to being alone after the passing of his wife and a strong single mother whose son has been battling cancer. A heavy load is best shared. This story is filled with moments that will make you laugh and sigh.

Wings and Fangs (Supernatural Legacies Book 1) by T.J. Deschamps

Blurb:

I never wanted to be a cop let alone work for an agency that used to hunt monsters like me. However, there seemed to be no place for me in my pack. Especially because I didn't take orders well from my dad or my aunt…and I have too much of my abjured mother’s looks to be accepted. Same went for working for mundane corporations. One little territorial growl, and I'd be in HR, explaining it was my culture.

So, I took up the International Supernatural Enforcement Agencies’ offer to be among the first supernaturals among them. Because they kept the hard cases for the experienced agents, my days of a rookie I.S.E.A. agent bordered on the ludicrous but were never boring.

However, when a rash of ritualistic wolf shifter murders spreads across the country and spans across the borders, Director Tan thinks my partner Jada and I would be perfect for the case.

Why two rookies? Because my I'm a wolf shifter of Fenrir's line through my mother. Which means my ancestors made a deal with the god to become what we are today. I have that in common with the murder victims.

Also, on a scary note? I have a crushing feeling Fenrir is calling me to cash in on my ancestor’s deal.

So, does my father, the son of the Archangel Gabriel, who passes down his sword from the angelic wars for protection. Igni can light with angelfire, and she also likes to spout her righteous opinion in my head, ad nauseum.

As Jada and I work the case, we discover there is a cult behind the murders and they’re not just any cult. They claim to be the group embodiment of Lif and Lifthrasir—the people who will live through Ragnarök. In case you haven’t heard, that’s when a giant snake devours our little third rock from the sun. The cult even has nifty leaders who want to be gods, and the sacrificial murders are leveling them up to take on the Aesir.

Lucky us, the Aesir have assigned a gorgeous Valkyrie named Bryn to help us out. Not sure if I can trust her. Jada certainly doesn’t. Especially since I've kissed Bryn before I knew who she was, and she appears whenever I’m in danger. Not complicated at all.

So, from wrangling giant multi-dimensional vermin frying pan into the stop the world from ending fire, I must jump. Maybe if I get burned to a crisp, Igni will shut up in my head.

My review:

Roxie and Jada are a total mismash of supernatural powers. We should be glad they are on the side of good. This tale is filled with a supernatural  conspiracy filled with those hungry for power and not too fussy about how they get it and the I.S.E.A agents sent to stop them. This is an exciting procedural that has you wondering if the end is near.

I enjoyed this but would have loved to know this was a spin-off before reading this as they kept referring back to things we haven’t read.

Unwanted (G.R.I.T.S., Love & The Paranormal) by Jan Mau Hill

Unwanted (G.R.I.T.S., Love & The Paranormal) by Jan Mau Hill

Blurb:

Christmas, Charity & Unwanted Celebrity

Ursula St. Germain, Omega of the Farouche Werebear pack, agrees to manage the Christmas pantry cook-off benefiting the New Orleans food bank. Unaware the event’s secret ingredient will be drama.

Recluse Vampire Ric Falco is both her new landlord and the cook-off sponsor. When a tabloid reports he and Ursula are romantically involved, Ric confesses that, while unplanned, it’ll be great to grow donations and event buzz.

Being thrust into celebrity status frustrates Ursula, and she agrees to host a non-corporeal entity housed within an enchanted tarot card deck. Temperance, gifts her the ability to find balance in life and love. It’s time for this bear to stop hibernating and pursue all of her dreams.

All this drama is an Unwanted gift she can’t return.

My review:

Sweet, fun and heartwarming. Ursula runs a food bank and cares for her community. She doesn’t have time for anything other than work and her adorable little dog Oreo. When Ric Falco, new landlord and benefactor for the food bank, enters her life everything gets a lot more exciting.

I loved Ursula. She’s smart, caring and funny. A wonderful read for the holidays or anytime.

Unwanted is part of a series but can be read standalone.

Something About Yule by Gia Stevens

Chasing Christmas (A Plain Daisy Ranch Romance) by Piper Rayne

My review:

I just got my hands on this and got to read Snowed in with my Best Friend by Carrie Ann Ryan and had to tell you that if the rest of the stories in this anthology are half as good as this story I am going to have a very sweet holiday season. In this story you have best friends who have grown to love each other but don’t want to ruin the friendship by bringing up messy feelings. A snowy night, a cabin with one bed and a bottle of vodka takes care of the rest.  A lot of fun.

Naughty Dreams by Joey W. Hill

Blurb:

"Roy, I need to be sure there’s not going to be any Kevin Costner, crushing-on-the-client nonsense from you. Because I’m pretty irresistible.”

World famous rockstar Dorian “DJ” James is a wiseass. He’s also stubborn, willful, talented—and a submissive.
While falling for his client is a dangerous conflict of interest, experienced bodyguard Roy Bloodwell realizes it will take an all-in, committed Master to keep this kid safe. Especially when a tragedy tears DJ’s world apart, and a nameless fan decides DJ is meant to be his.
Screw conflict of interest. Roy has a message for that fan, and anyone else who threatens DJ.
You aren’t taking what’s mine.

My review:

Naughty Dreams by Joey W. Hill is an emotional journey that takes place in the maelstrom of the rock and roll world of ego and artistry.

DJ may be the leader of Survivor but only because it allows him to take care of his “family”. When his life is threatened, he hires Roy Bloodwell an experienced bodyguard and a total dominant. The chemistry between the two is instant and off the charts.

This book tore my heart into little pieces and rebuilt it happier for Roy and Dory.  Another winner by Joey W. Hill

The Rebel with Broken Strings (Naked Moose #3) by Stacey Kennedy

Blurb:

Self-proclaimed good girl Aubrey Hale has too many secrets. Among them is missing the big-city life she left behind for small-town Montana—the life that included a one-night stand with country star Gunner Woods. But Aubrey and her friends have recently sworn off men. So when Gunner turns up in Timber Falls looking all kinds of sexy, she pretends she’s never met him.

Gunner is surprised to see Aubrey again and even more surprised by how she’s acting. The carefree woman he knew for one night is now jaded. After a failed record launch, Gunner can relate—and maybe they could even find solace in each other, if she’d stop treating him like a stranger.

Aubrey’s not ready to let her guard down, but she’s just fine with letting the sparks between them burn… But when Gunner’s career reignites, she’ll have to reckon with her discontent. Can you chase two separate dreams without burning everything to the ground?

My review:

The Rebel with Broken Strings is a gut-wrenching, heartwarming tale of second chances and redemption. Our hero is a country star who blew up his professional life and with help from his friends is trying to get his life back on track. One of the things he lost was a chance to love Aubrey the incredible chef in Atlanta. Now Aubrey is in his hometown in Montana creating magic at the Naked Moose. He’s a new man can he convince her to give him a second chance. I ached at Aubrey’s pain and respected Gunner’s path to redemption. This is a fantastic addition to the Naked Moose series.

Mom Said "I Do," But I Didn't! by Misti Renna

Blurb:

MOM SAID. "I DO... BUT I DIDN'TI
New house. New dad. New baby. New problem.
Ave-year-old Madison is not amused.
Her mom is marrying James (ew), which means moving to
a new house (double eww), and worst of all, being left with
Aunt Mary during the honeymoon (maximum ewww).
Aunt Mary is the worst!
Her older brother Scott? Totally fine with it.
Traitor.
And now ... there's a baby on the way? Seriously?
Madison's trying to keep it together, but it's hard when
everyone else is acting like this whole "new life" thing is normal. (Spoiler: it's not.)
Full of sass, snacks, and sibling side-eyes, MOM SAID, "I DO," BUT I DIDN'T!, is a laugh-out-loud look at big changes through the eyes of a tiny drama queen just trying to survive her so-called new normal.
MOM SAID, "I DO," BUT I DIDN'T!
Is the first book in a series starring Madison-
the queen of meltdowns, mismatched socks, and making things way more complicated than they need to be.

My review:

I picked up this book because of the absolutely adorable cover. And though this book deals with a serious subject, especially to a precocious five year old, Madison will steal your heart. I heartily recommend.

Grizzly's Grump by Delta James

Blurb:

I’ve spent years keeping to myself. Just me, the woods, and the quiet that helps me forget everything I’ve lost.

Then she showed up.

Cilla Morgan, sweet smile, sugar-scented skin, and a stubborn streak as wide as the forest. I didn’t want a mate. Didn’t deserve one. But the bear inside me roared the moment he saw her. Mine.

She doesn’t believe in magic. Doesn’t know what I am.
But that doesn’t matter.

Because I’ll protect her. I’ll claim her.
Even if she runs. Even if fate has other plans.

She’s mine. And I’m not letting her go.

Welcome to Redwood Rise, where the bears are grumpy, the mates are fated, and the only thing stronger than magic… is love.

My review:

Magic and love drive this grumpy/sunshine romance. Cilla is all sugar and sass and Calder is a total grumpy bear. Watching these two spar is a total hoot. You just know somethings gotta give. I totally enjoyed this story and look forward to the rest of the series.

Running with the Werewolf by Laurie London

Blurb:

Welcome to Darkaway Island: A destination resort for supernaturals.
Where Monsters Come to Play!

Daphne Dupree needed to get out of town after things at work got a little…complicated. The last thing she expected when she filled out a silly online quiz was winning a singles trip to paradise. Too good to be true? Probably.

Turns out, Darkaway Island is more than a little strange. People in costumes. Large dogs running around unleashed. And there’s a lot of crazy talk about monsters.

But the weirdest of all is that she seems to be part of a…dating contest.

The prize: a smoking-hot cowboy with an unhealthy fixation on the moon.

Travis Monroe wasn’t planning to stay long on the island. As the grumpy werewolf star of a supernatural soap opera, all he wants is to give his newly-inherited ranch to his sister then fly back to the set on his private plane.

Trouble is, if he isn’t mated by the White Wolf Moon, the ranch reverts to a half-brother he just met, and his sister loses everything.

Solution: Find a mate, sign over the property, break up. Falling in love isn’t in the script.

As Travis and Daphne spend time together on group dates and one-on-ones, his feelings for her grow, extending far beyond duty to his family. And she learns he’s more—much more—than just fangs and fur.

But a rival pack is stirring up trouble, and Daphne is hiding a secret of her own.

Do Travis and Daphne find love in paradise only to lose it in the end?

Live your life like there’s no tomorrow because you’re Running with the Werewolf.

My review:

Running with the Werewolf by Laurie London is a fun human/werewolf romance.  Daphne is a human hiding out on paranormal getaway Darkaway Island. She thinks she’s won a vacation getaway but discovers a whole new reality. Travis is a werewolf superstar trying to save the family ranch and his role of Alpha which demands he be mated. A bachelor type dating show and a reluctant human contender leads to laughter and love. This was an enjoyable escape.

An Alien Affair: Amaya's Legacy Book One by Fiona Forbes

Blurb:

FEAR FIGHTS FURY…
when anthropologist Lee Barry is “invited” to upgrade her lecturing skills at an alien facility. A few TV broadcasts by white-coated extraterrestrials, and humans had embraced the alien invasion of Earth with open arms. Lee wondered if she really was insane. The aliens couldn’t control the minds of everyone else on the planet, could they?

Zhan, alien Director of the Arizona Adult Education Centre, also had moments when he doubted his sanity. He’d taken this post because he knew his government was wrong. Humans were too independent to forgive mind control, despite all the wonders his people had bestowed upon them. But if they didn’t vote for his people in the Intergalactic Federation elections, war would soak the galaxies with innocent blood!

When Zhan and Lee meet, passion flames, legendary symbionts awaken, and the truth is stranger and far more dangerous than anyone expected. Hunted by resistance fighters, bloodthirsty priests, and rival empires, they must persist. But can love born of cosmic destiny survive political betrayal, primal instincts, and a war for the soul of humanity?

This isn’t just a love story. It’s a rebellion written in blood and memory – a sizzling, high-stakes sci-fi romance with teeth!

My review:

An Alien Affair is an intelligent sci-fi fantasy that engages mind and imagination. Part political thriller, part intellectual exercise and part love story this book thoroughly engages the reader. I enjoyed this but was occasionally thrown from the story by the authors continued use of an alien language that required me to leave the story to decipher it. One of the downsides of sci-fi I guess.

Razor (Devil Daddies MC Book 3) by Pepper North

Blurb:

If you think you’re teetering on the edge, you haven’t met Razor.

Razor knows too much about everything. With all the information rattling around in his brain, it’s no wonder he’s the MCs doctor and shrink. When he suspects something is wrong with an Inferno regular, he has to intercede. Why is she risking so much by failing to act?

Honey Rhoades loves Inferno. It’s the one place she can go to get away from it all. Stress, a crappy car, and the worst job ever can make a woman stumble through life, right? At least here, she can sit pretty and flirt with hot bikers, even if she also gets bossed around by the one with Doctor Daddy vibes.
The members of the Devil Daddies MC will risk all to secure two things: special acquisitions and women with a Little side.

My review:

Razor is scary smart, an MD with a PHD. Not the type of guy you expect to find living and working for a morally grey MC. Honey is smart too, not in Razors class but she gets by. Honey is living with a chronic condition but refuses to let it slow her more than necessary, She meets Razer when she goes to Inferno to watch others dance. I loved the way Razor goes out of his way to make Honey feel included. He isn’t going to let Honey deny them the chance to be together because of her condition. This one made my heart happy.

The King's Ransom (Gabriela Rose #2) by Janet Evanovich

Blurb:

Gabriela Rose, recovery agent extraordinaire, can find just about anything. Too bad she can’t seem to lose her gorgeous-but-infuriating ex-husband Rafer Jones. And now he needs her help. His cousin, Harley, is in trouble…big trouble.

As the president of a too-big-to-fail bank, he invested an astronomical amount of money in insuring some of the world’s most priceless artifacts at the urging of his board. It seemed like a low-risk, high-reward business move, so he jumped in with both feet. But recently, these insured pieces started going missing and worse, there’s no paper trail of Harley being directed to make these risky investments. Unless the artwork can be recovered soon, it looks like Harley is going to be heading to jail as the fall guy for an ingenious crime.

Gabriela knows what she must do: travel around the world with Rafer to find the missing works of art, keep Harley out of jail, and save both his skin and his bank. Along the way, she’ll encounter corruption, threats, murder, mysterious dark forces behind a global conspiracy to destroy the world’s wealth, and a nefarious villain who will stop at nothing to bring the world to the brink of ruin.

My review:

Non-stop action, witty banter and a great mystery The King’s Ransom has us traveling the world while ducking and weaving, avoiding the bad guys. This thrilling romp has me laughing and gasping at turns. Gabriela is my hero. Well worth the wait.

Careless (Ashford Creek #.5) by Carrie Ann Ryan

Blurb:

On my 21st birthday, I know there's only one wish I'm making when I blow out my candles.
A chance with him.
Only I'm his best friend's little sister, so that means I'm beyond off limits.
And did I mention he's older?
I'm ready to be seen as my own person and to take the next step.
But I know it can't be with him.
Yet when I'm backed in a corner, there's only one person I can call for help.
Him.

Careless is the prequel to the Ashford Creek series. Learn how Callum Ashford and Felicity Carter fall into a careless mistake before their full story in Legacy.

My review:

Callum Ashford is Felicity Carter’s brothers best friend and younger than him. She’s just turned legal and he shouldn’t want her so, He’s not in a position to get involved with anyone let alone Felicity. The heart wants what it wants but can’t have.

Careless is the prequel to the Ashford Creek series focusing on the Ashford family. This was an exciting peek into Callum’s mind and heart. I look forward to their story.

Bewitched by the Fruit Bat King: The Bewitching Hour by Jamie Dalton

Blurb:

Love at first bite? Not quite.

All Willow wanted was to find her true love. But when her "foolproof" matchmaking spell leads her straight to Kane Drake—the absurdly attractive CEO of Drake Produce and definitely a vampire—she does what any sensible witch would do: magically yeets him across town before he can even say hello. No way is she letting destiny saddle her with a vampire, thank you very much.

Too bad the universe (and Kane) didn't get the memo.

My review:

Bewitched by the Fruit Bat King is a delightful escape. A different take of the vampire myth and an enchanting mystery. Willow and her friends had me rolling and Kane had me swooning.

The Case of the Talking Tabby by Donna Michaels and Jestina Michaels

Blurb:

The cat says he’s a detective. The case is twenty-seven years cold, and this mother-daughter duo is about to trade lattes for late-night stakeouts.

Former cop Delaney “Dee” Shaw and her daughter, former forensic scientist Emerson “Em” Shaw, just opened The Claw & Order Cat Café, next to the police station. They were expecting foam art and cat adoptions—until a grumpy red tabby walked in and started talking.

Marlowe insists he’s the reincarnation of a homicide detective who once partnered with Dee’s father—and he’s here to solve the case that got away: a young woman strangled in her own home, a husband with an alibi, and no justice served.

With Dee’s police instincts, Em’s forensic smarts, and Marlowe’s old-school grit, they’ll dig into a murder the town has nearly forgotten. But the past never stays buried…especially when a detective with nine lives is on the hunt.

My review:

The Case of the Talking Tabby by Donna Michaels and Jestina Michaels is an delightful cozy mystery. I love the mother/daughter interaction. You can feel the love and respect between them. I adored Marlow the talking cat with the brains of cop and the escape artist skills of a cat. I do hope they continue to tell more stories from The Claw & Order Cat Café,

Contracts & Cats (Meow: Magical Emporium of Wares, Book 1) by Toni Binns

Contracts & Cats (Meow: Magical Emporium of Wares, Book 1) by Toni Binns

Blurb:

Welcome to the Magical Emporium of Wares, a bookshop that appears only to those who need to find it.

When Sable answers a too-good-to-be-true job posting—cozy bookshop, perfect espresso machine, adorable black cat, and an apartment upstairs—she thought she'd finally caught a break from her crushing student loans.

But the ink on the deal is barely dry when Sable realizes that the contract is very literal. She cannot leave. Also, her new feline companion talks, the bookstore itself is a sentient enigma with an excellent espresso machine, and magic isn’t just for storybooks–it’s woven into her new reality.

Bound to the shop as the mystical Cat's voice and hands in the human world, the bookstore's true purpose begins to unfold, and Sable must choose. Will she embrace the impossible magic blooming around her, or cling to the mundane life she thought she wanted, risking the fate of the shop and its curious inhabitants?

If you love the heartwarming charm of found family, the gentle unraveling of an enchanting mystery, and the quiet wonder of magic woven into everyday life, then this is your next favorite read.

Like Sable I fell into this world and did not want to leave. Wonderful characters whose quest takes them to alternate  worlds without ever leaving the shop. This truly wonderful tale kept me enthralled from page one and left me wanting more.

Tilly's Tutus (Crafty Littles Book 2) by Cooper McKenzie

Blurb:

Sometimes a “little" bit of luck and a chance encounter can change everything.

Tilly Smith dreams of the day when making Little clothes and selling her designs can be her full-time focus. When an opportunity presents itself, Tilly jumps at the chance to set up at Littlepalooza selling her homemade fashions with her sisters, and deep down, she secretly hopes to meet a protective Daddy of her own there.

When Police Captain Carter McGee volunteers to work security at Littlepalooza, he does so with an ulterior motive-- secretly hoping to find a precious Little for his inner Daddy Dom to care for.

After Carter steps in to save Tilly from a parking lot attack, he is instantly smitten by her porcelain freckled skin and carrot-red hair.

Their attraction grows quickly, but after an intense weekend, Tilly's sisters intrude. They see Carter as a threat, feel the relationship is moving too fast, and push Tilly to insist that she and Carter need to take a break.

With happiness hanging by a thread, can Carter and Tilly find the dynamic they both desperately desire?

My review:

Tilly's Tutus is the second in an adorable trilogy that has the Smith triplets finding love at Littlepalooza a convention for littles and their Bigs. This is Tilly’s tale. Tilly is the middle sister. The peacemaker. But this time her sisters may have gone too far.

Police Captain Carter McGee and Tilly are just too sweet for words.

Blind Date with a Werewolf by Patricia Briggs

Blurb:

When the deadly werewolf Asil is gifted five blind dates by some anonymous “friends,” his reclusive life will never be the same, in this enthralling novel in stories from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Mercy Thompson series.

Includes two all-new stories as well as three previously published stories.

Dear Asil:

We are worried about you. A werewolf alone is a sad thing, especially at Christmastime. So we have a challenge for you: five dates in three weeks. We have taken the work out of it and connected you with five people from online dating sites. You should also know that we have informed the whole pack and instigated a betting pool. Have fun!

Sincerely,
Your Concerned Friends

My review:

I loved this fun read. Asil is a very old, very dangerous werewolf. He’s moved to Montana to be near the one wolf who may be able to defeat him if his wolf becomes too unstable. As he’s become integrated into the Morrok’s pack he’s managed to make friends despite his curmudgeonly ways. They’re concerned that he spends too much time alone and have gifted him with five dates in three weeks. This is the most excitement he’s had in awhile.

Asil may be old but he’s a total b*da**. Enjoy the ride.

Diary of an Unauthorised Vampire: Burkenswood Mysteries 1 by Iris Beaglehole

Diary of an Unauthorised Vampire: Burkenswood Mysteries 1 by

Iris Beaglehole

Blurb:

Current status: Recently divorced. Recently deceased. Recently discovered vampirism requires forms in triplicate.

Woke up dead. Rather inconvenient – and with no paperwork, I’m now an illegal vampire who can’t hug my children without wanting to eat them.

The gothic vampire matriarch who insists on keeping me in her castle finds everything deliciously dramatic. She swears I need a supernatural guardian or my powers might detonate. After my divorce, the last thing I want is to be bound to anyone.

My new job at a supernatural law firm seemed like a step in the right direction… until a magical artifact went missing and everyone started pointing fangs. Now I’m hunting for the Twilight Concordat with a purple-haired mage whose idea of fun is “light breaking and entering.” Meanwhile, Clara Blackwood, the Council’s Chief Investigator, looks at me like I’m a puzzle she can’t quite solve. I can’t decide if that makes her my worst enemy or something infinitely more dangerous.

My review:

This isn’t your normal recent divorcee turned vampire without consent type of story. Gillian is turned by an unknown vampire on her way home from celebrating her divorce. She is prevented from eating her children when she arises by a family of vampires who take her and her children in and assist her through the turn. She may live at night but even as an undead being she’s more alive now than throughout her disastrous marriage.  Gillian finds new friends and new problems in her new life.

I really enjoyed this mystery and new take on the newly undead, I cannot wait for the next installment. I’ve got questions.

What frightened her the most were the monsters living inside her head.
Living inside her.

In the mythical world of Tellus, Pax Silva awaits her Ortus day, when she will finally obtain her telekinetic powers. Shunned by her community for being too unpredictable, she longs for a life of adventure beyond her small forest home.

But when her village is attacked, and her Alchemist father and mother are taken, she is left with only cryptic clues and a mysterious golden amulet.

Convinced that the much-feared Supremo Gen are responsible for their capture, Pax and her childhood friend, Am, travel to Rubra to confront them, alongside Miles, a warrior with a bionic leg, and Venefica, an ancient witch Pax is uncertain she can trust.

With the Blood Moon due to rise, will Pax be able to save her parents before it’s too late?

My review:

A bold and exciting quest. Pax is troubled from the day of her birth. At fifteen she’s about to discover her power. But sadly before she comes into her full power her parents and her village have been kidnapped and she is determined to find and free them. With the aid of stalwart friends she finds along the way Pax must use everything she’s learned or dreamed of to save the town,

I enjoyed watching Pax struggle and grow along her dangerous quest and look forward to more adventures in her future.

Supernatural Crimes Unit: NYPD: The Thin Blue Ley-Line by Keith R.A. DeCandido

Supernatural Crimes Unit: NYPD: The Thin Blue Ley-Line by Keith R.A. DeCandido

Blurb:

When Detective Domenica Kiernan solved the murder of a mayor’s aide—killed by a vampire—she never imagined she’d find herself at the vanguard of the NYPD’s latest special squad: the Supernatural Crimes Unit.

Tasked with closing cases involving magic and monsters, the SCU has dealt with a shape-changing domovoy committing assault in Chelsea, the murder of a kappa on City Island, a thieving Taotie in Chinatown—and their latest, two murder victims whose corpses have been liquefied by a powerful spell.

Kiernan and the rest of the SCU must find the connection between the two victims and figure out who cast the spell that destroyed the corpses. Soon, their investigation leads to a malevolent magic-user who yearns for limitless power, whose plans go far beyond disposing of a dead body. He’ll stop at nothing to achieve his goals—including kidnapping Bobby, Kiernan’s ten-year-old son.

The SCU has no choice: they must go rogue to find Bobby and stop the wizard before he unleashes hell on Earth!

My review:

If you took Law & Order and made the SVU into SCU (Supernatural Crimes Unit) you would get an idea of the cast of the monster squad. A good many of the NYPD don’t believe the monsters exist and so are of little to no help. Dealing with the bureaucracy is almost as hard as dealing with the “monsters”. This is a police procedural with monsters and a mystery. I thoroughly enjoyed.
