Scales Of Honesty (The Apprentice Of Anubis #8.5) by Laura Greenwood

Scales Of Honesty (The Apprentice Of Anubis #8.5) by Laura Greenwood

Blurb:

Being a priestess for the goddess of truth and justice is not for the faint-hearted. Taia always thought she and fellow Ma'at Blessed priest, Metjen, were inseparable. When he starts avoiding her, she questions whether their bond is as strong as she thought it was. A big festival to celebrate the temples in London comes with a test of Taia's devotion and the goddess of truth and justice is not one to displease. Can Taia and Metjen figure out what's causing the problems between them before they risk losing the blessing of their goddess? - Scales Of Honesty is a standalone companion story to The Apprentice Of Anubis series, an urban fantasy set in an alternative version of London where the Egyptian Empire never fell. Scales Of Honesty can be read as a standalone. The events take place during the events of Festival Of The Blessed. If you love Egyptian mythology, alternative versions of the modern day, temple politics, and slow-burn workplace romance, then start the Apprentice Of Anubis series today with Apprentice Of The Dead.

My review:

I picked this up as free standalone in a series I haven’t read. Wow! I was blown away. Fantastic world building and intriguing characters.  I will definitely be checking this series out.

Doctoring Dolly (Submissives of Rawhide Ranch Book 5) by Cooper McKenzie

Blurb:

Turns out the biggest danger at Rawhide is the danger of falling…in love.

Dolly Carter has a tendency to be what some people would call “accident prone”.

She just calls herself a big ole’ klutz.

That isn’t stopping her from learning everything she can about kink, though, so she takes herself off to Rawhide Ranch, where she can learn in a safe, protected environment.

What she isn’t safe from, however, is the smoking hot doctor who commands her attention from her very first visit to the dungeon. Doctor Quincy Nelson is every woman’s fantasy come to life—and he has his sights set on Dolly.

But Dolly has a big secret. One so huge it threatens not just her relationship with Quincy, but her future at Rawhide Ranch. And even having her own personal doctor may not be enough to patch up her broken heart when her secret is finally discovered…

My review:

Dolly is a bit of a stumblebum. She needs a Doctor Daddy to take care of all her bumps and bruises.  Dr. Nelson is fresh out of the military and looking for his future. Can he find it in Dolly? I enjoyed the interaction between the characters from the first page to the very end.

Her Halloween Billionaire (Billionaire Brat Pack Book 1) by R.C. Wynne

Blurb:

A single mom who simply wants to make her son happy this Halloween, a frustrated figurehead for a company, and their chance to rescue each other from a mundane life. For the past four years, Candy Hollier has only had one priority—take care of her five-year-old son, Brandon, and she’s kept her life simple in pursuit of that goal—that is, until her boss, Jackson Blackburn, asks her out. Her life has never been grandiose, and she’s been all right with that. All she’s ever needed is the love of her son, the help of her mother on occasion, and her best friend to keep her from becoming stagnant. She goes to work, returns home, plays mom, and then slips into bed, perhaps reading a chapter or two before sleep claims her. Simple. Pragmatic. Predictable. But Jackson Blackburn is anything but predictable. Caught up in the adrenaline of being asked out by the most sought-after man in the company, Candy doesn’t even realize what’s happening until she hears the whispers behind her back. Now, faced with false accusations of being a gold digger and not wanting to see her son hurt in the wake of office busybodies, Candy has only one choice—she has to turn her back on happiness and quit her job. But will Jackson allow her to simply walk away?

My review:

Fun office romance. Jackson and Candy were adorable together. Fast paced romp.

Firefighter Griffin (Fire & Rescue Shifters #3) by Zoe Chant

Blurb:

Single mom Hayley Parker has always had to face every parenting challenge on her own - but when her five-year-old son unexpectedly turns into a lion cub, she finds herself with more than she can handle. With her little boy stuck up a tree and yowling for help, the only thing she can think to do is call the fire department....

Ex-firefighter Griffin MacCormick has the heart of a lion and the eyes of an eagle - literally. As a unique shifter with two inner animals, his battling beasts are slowly tearing his body and soul apart. Forced to retire from the elite all-shifter Alpha Team by his degenerative condition, he struggles to be content working as a dispatcher...until one day he takes a call that will change his life.

When Griff meets Hayley, both his lion and his eagle instantly recognize her as their one true mate. But how can he ask Hayley to risk her heart on a dying man, when she's already been abandoned once in the past? And when Hayley's arrogant lion shifter ex unexpectedly reappears on the scene with a horrifying demand, how can Griff protect his mate and her cub?

My review:

Firefighter Griffin is a multi-layered tale of love and acceptance. A seriously adorable meet-cute starts off the story of a single human mother, her ridiculously cute lion shifter son, his absent father and firefighter Griffin an eagle/lion hybrid shifter who is unable to shift. I was drawn in and couldn’t put this book down till after the very last page. Though this is part of a series it stands on its own just fine.

From Harlequin Intrigue: Seek thrills. Solve crimes. Justice served.

When she receives a letter from her former pack that threatens to upend her life, Hayley seeks help from the one woman who’s always been there for her—Willow K. Sprout.

My review:

Who says you can’t go home again? Hayley sure as heck doesn’t want to go. There’s nothing but bad memories and an inheritance. She needs to go and put the past behind her so she can move forward. This is the story of what happens when she does.

I loved this story.

A Wilder Wedding (The Wilder Brothers #7.5) by Carrie Ann Ryan

Blurb:

The Wilders know their weddings and this time it’s for one of their own.

Naomi and Amos have been the secret backbone to the Wilder Brothers’ Retreat and Winery for years.

They’ve also loved and hated each other along the way.

Their on and off again relationship has always worked for them, but now it’s getting in the way of the next Wilder Wedding.

If they don’t figure out what they want, one of them will have to do what they feared: leave the Wilders.

But if they take that leap, they might just break.

Or finally have what they’ve always wanted.

Each other.

My review:

Naomi and Amos are side characters that have hinted at an on again off again relationship throughout the series.  This book tells their tale and gives them their happy but boy the author makes them work for it.

I love Naomi but have long been frustrated that she didn’t value herself enough to insist on what she wanted for fear of losing what she had. Amos needed to see just what he had to lose.

I really enjoyed watching her fight for her happiness.

So when her cousin invites her to visit Axia—the hidden, magical hub their grandparents retired to—she agrees. Deandra doesn’t possess a stitch of magic herself, but a long weekend vacation in a strange new town might be just what she needs.

Her first day in Axia is so bizarre, though, she wonders if her bleak life in Los Angeles hasn’t been so bad after all. And, just when she thinks her day can’t get any stranger, she finds a baby dragon trapped in a dumpster. At a loss, she takes a trip to the vet, hoping they can help find the little guy’s owner.

The dragon, it turns out, only appears in its true form to her, while everyone else sees a dire wolf puppy. She and the vet discover that as long as the dragon wears his bespelled collar, his true identity is hidden. Someone went to great lengths to keep this supposed-to-be-extinct animal a secret.

Then the “dog” is accused of arson and is seized by authorities. Determined to help him, Deandra searches for the real arsonist. She catches wind of a thriving black market that’s populated by those who would stop at nothing to claim an animal this rare. She must work quickly to clear her dragon’s name, because if he falls into the wrong hands, she could lose him forever.

My review:

As a mundane daughter of a witch Dee has heard of the magical world but never visited till now. Her mind is blown from the very beginning in this adorable cozy mystery. The beings Dee meets along the way will make you believe. Along the way Dee is adopted by a baby dragon who is painfully cute. Dee has choices to make and a murder to solve. Enjoy the ride.
