Eye of the Storm: Tiger's Eye Mysteries by Alyssa Day

Blurb:
A monster hurricane, a long-lost father, the Irish mob, and a rogue vampire are all trying their darndest to smash Dead End, Florida into pieces -- and then another dead body shows up. What are a pawn shop owner and tiger shifter PI to do?

With Hurricane Elvis -- the "storm of the century" – bearing down on Dead End, Florida, Tess, Jack, and the gang have their hands full doing storm prep for themselves and the quirky paranormal residents of the town. They certainly don't have time for the discovery of yet another dead body. But in Dead End, you never know when magic, mayhem, and murder will combine to cause as much chaos as a rogue vampire let loose in a blood bank.

And when Tess, a pawn shop owner who can see how you'll die, and Jack, an ex-soldier and tiger shifter turned private eye, team up to solve another murder, the criminals had better watch out. Because a hurricane is no match for Hurricane Tess, and sometimes it takes a tiger's eye to see the truth.

Warning: This book contains a taxidermied alligator, shapeshifters, the mob, lucky lasagna, a hurricane, a dead body, magic, Elvis song titles, hideously bad singing, horrible puns, a slow-burning romance, mystery, mayhem, and "I laughed so hard I almost peed myself" laughter. Read at your own risk.

My review:
Eye of the Storm: Tiger's Eye Mysteries by Alyssa Day is laugh out loud funny. With Elvis puns, a sexy red dress an interrupted date and bad guys that you want to Return to Sender this book will have you giggle-snorting and flipping pages.

Busted by Diane Kelly

Blurb:
CRIME ISN’T A GAME

With a .38 on her hip and 38DD’s on her chest, motorcycle cop Marnie Muckleroy is fully equipped and ready for action. Having recently divorced and relocated to the small Texas town where she was born and raised, Marnie is also ready for romance. There’s no lack of eligible men in Jacksburg. Problem is, they’re eligible for social security, food stamps, or parole. After a mystery man on a Ninja motorbike rides into her town and into her fantasies, she’s determined to find out who he is. If only dispatch and fate would stop getting in her way . . .

When a scam artist steals the identities of local children to commit credit card fraud, Marnie’s underfunded police force lacks the high-tech skills necessary to pursue the perpetrator. In steps Trey, a video game programmer with mad technical skills, along with a hard drive and plenty of RAM to keep Marnie satisfied until she can track down the elusive guy who rides the kick-ass Ninja.

NEITHER IS LOVE

As Marnie closes in on the stealthy biker, and she and Trey close in on the con artist, a dirty secret comes to light and threatens to tear Marnie’s world apart. Will she be able to piece her life back together, or is it Game Over for her?

My review:
Busted by Diane Kelly is a terrific story featuring motorcycle cop Marnie Muckleroy who I just adore. Marnie is flawed but so much more likeable for those flaws. This story takes us through several crimes and Marnie’s courtship with video game programmer Trey an all-around good guy except… and that’s what makes this a sweet romp with serious undertones.

The Princess Beard: The Tales of Pell by Kevin Hearne and Delilah S Dawson

Blurb:
Shave the princess? Inconceivable! The hilarious bestselling authors of Kill the Farm Boy and No Country for Old Gnomes are back with a new adventure in the irreverent world of Pell.

Once upon a time, a princess slept in a magical tower cloaked in thorns and roses.

When she woke, she found no Prince Charming, only a surfeit of hair and grotesquely long fingernails--which was, honestly, better than some creep who acted without consent. She cut off her long braids and used them to escape. But she kept the beard because it made a great disguise.

This is not a story about finding true love's kiss--it's a story about finding yourself. On a pirate ship. Where you belong.

But these are no ordinary pirates aboard The Puffy Peach, serving under Filthy Lucre, the one-eyed parrot pirate captain. First there's Vic, a swole and misogynistic centaur on a mission to expunge himself of the magic that causes him to conjure tea and dainty cupcakes in response to stress. Then there's Tempest, who's determined to become the first dryad lawyer--preferably before she takes her ultimate form as a man-eating tree. They're joined by Alobartalus, an awkward and unelfly elf who longs to meet his hero, the Sn'archivist who is said to take dictation directly from the gods of Pell. Throw in some mystery meat and a dastardly capitalist plot, and you've got one Pell of an adventure on the high seas!

In this new escapade set in the magical land of Pell, Delilah S. Dawson and Kevin Hearne lovingly skewer the tropes of fairy tales and create a new kind of fantasy: generous, gently humorous, and inclusive. There might also be otters.

My review:
The Princess Beard is a puntastic laugh out loud gigglesnort of a good time read. This adventure of self-discovery is not without the occasional mishap but what doesn’t kill you … This tale is filled with epic wordplay and the occasional shout out to various adventurers past, present and future. I heartily recommend.

Blurb:
Deanna Oscar Paranormal Mysteries Book 11

Greg is still missing and possibly possessed by demons. Everyone in New Orleans, from police to the paranormal crowd, is trying to help. Deanna is invading every convent, monastery, and hideout she can think of but she can’t seem to track her old friend down.
The bad guy who started it all is contained, or so Deanna believes. She’s busy helping on a bizarre case on a college campus with the New Orleans PD. Tracking down Greg, she finds he’s been trying to help but the supernatural forces are being whipped up instead.
Trying to keep Greg safe and free from all of those infected by demons, Deanna needs a few clones of herself but her friends, brother, and new hubby will have to do!
Let’s just hope those demons don’t open a black hole or something serious…

My review:
I LOVE THIS SERIES! That being said I recommend you having read a few of the earlier books before this one so you will be familiar with the characters. In this installment science and the paranormal clash in a horrific way and it’s up to De and the gang to figure it out. This story is filled with surprises. This series just keeps on getting better.

Weakest Lynx (Lynx #1) by Fiona Quinn

Blurb:
Lexi Sobado is a young woman with a special gift: she's psychic. But even knowing things others don't, Lexi's unable to avoid genuine danger when a stalker focuses his evil on her. As the situation escalates, she must navigate through a sinister web of fear and danger to stay alive.

When the madman forces his way into Lexi's home, she sustains near-fatal injuries. Lexi's survival means she is the only one who can identify the stalker, and she becomes the critical witness who might hold the key to stopping the murderer terrifying the families of Washington's elite intelligence agencies.

Striker Rheas, an ex-Navy SEAL, and his team of expert operators are charged with protecting Lexi. The more time Striker spends on this security assignment, the more trouble he has maintaining the boundaries of professionalism. He knows Lexi is keeping secrets, and protecting her is not going to be an easy task if he's missing vital information... and losing his heart to her.

Somewhere between peril and resolve, Striker must find a way to help Lexi trust. What she hides, what she reveals, and what she uncovers will need to find the perfect balance if she's going to save her own life and stop the killer. And time is running out.

My review:
At first glance Weakest Lynx would appear to be a paramilitary thriller but it is so much more. Lexi Sobado is an intriguing character that has lived a lifetime in a very short time. I loved her strength and determination. This book is non-stop action. The only thing I didn’t like is that I can’t pronounce Iniquus and it drove me to distraction. I’ve purchased the rest of the series (to date) and plan on binge reading.

Queen of Monsters (The Dank Courts Book 4) by Dagmar Avery, K. Margaret, Stella Price

Queen of Monsters (The Dank Courts Book 4) by Dagmar Avery, K. Margaret,
Stella Price

Blurb:
The battle may be over, but the war is far from won.

Poseidon has emerged, and things are about to get crazy. With some new problems on the horizon for the entire Nightmare Courts, Gogo and Cetus are in a precarious position with their own Courts…and where they sit in the mess of all of it. The Hobgoblin queen is making a play for inclusion, the Light Courts are on the rise and the animosity between two gods, one dark, one ‘light,’ is overwhelming.

But surprises are cropping up, in the form of mythical treasure, and it’s up to the Nightmare Courts to find it, to help bring their respective houses to a glory they should have had since the beginning---because the light Courts are working against them overtime.

And with Poseidon still working behind the scenes, nothing is easy. Gobeth, Cetus and her guard have their work cut out for them, because by the end of this ordeal, gods will be dead, secrets will be revealed, and a queen will rise, along with her monsters.

My review:
EPIC! In Queen of Monsters, Gogo and her guys grow even closer. Faerie is changing and Gogo is part of that. In this installment there are battles, treasure, and most of all love. This is a fantastic addition to the series.

Tempt Me by Maddie James

Blurb:
Detective Jordan Cross has one thing on her mind—get the bastard killing kids in her small southern city; the person she thinks is also responsible for her niece’s disappearance.

Journalist Tate Walker has a similar goal—keep the people of his city informed about the serial killer, and perhaps write a Pulitzer-worthy story in the process.

When Jordan and Tate’s lives careen together around the case, they pick up the battles of their pasts and carry them forward—battles of trust and mistrust, lust and love, truths and misunderstandings. Determined to keep her focus on the case, Jordan finds it difficult to resist Tate’s sexual temptations. Tate uses every advantage to tempt her back into his bed. Then, thrust into a dangerous situation, those battles suddenly fall away—and the only battle left to fight is for their lives, and their love.

My review:
Tempt Me by Maddie James is an erotic thriller that will pull you in. Despite jumping back and forth in time this was a good story. I loved that the heroine was a cop and the hero was a journalist. The chemistry between them was hot, hot, hot! The passion between them was obvious even when they were at odds. I’m glad I didn’t give up on this story and we all get a happy ending.
