Fuel for Fire (Black Knights Inc. #10) by Julie Ann Walker

Blurb:

A brooding covert operative and a spunky CIA agent discover a burning passion in the next installment of Julie Ann Walker's red-hot BKI seriesDagan Zoelner has made three huge mistakesThe first two left blood on his hands. The third left him wondering...what if? What if he had told the woman of his dreams how he felt before his world fell apart?Spitfire CIA agent Chelsea Duvall has always had a thing for bossy, brooding Dagan. It's just as well that he's never given her a second look, since she carries a combustible secret about his past that threatens to torch their lives...

My review:

Fuel for Fire is the latest addition to the Black Nights series and like the rest is a whole lot of action, adventure and love. I like Chelsea she is strong, smart and sweet. She has a secret that is keeping her from being totally honest with the man, Dagan “Z” Zoelner she has lusted after for years. Now on an operation in England she finds out under fire that he lusts after her too. When they act upon it it is explosive. Will her secret keep them from making it work long term? Find out in this exciting story.

Jump Cut (Ellie Foreman #5) by Libby Fischer Hellmann

Blurb:
Chicago video producer Ellie Foreman has been absent from thriller author Libby Fischer Hellmann s repertoire for almost a decade. Now, in Jump Cut, she s back...and is soon to find herself entangled in a web of espionage, murder, and suspicion that threatens to destroy what she holds most dear. Hired to produce a candy-floss profile of Chicago-based aviation giant Delcroft, Ellie is dismayed when company VP Charlotte Hollander trashes the production and cancels the project. Ellie believes Hollander was spooked by shots of a specific man in the video footage. But when Ellie arranges to meet the man to find out why, he is killed by a subway train before they can talk. In the confusion, she finds a seemingly abandoned pack of cigarettes with a flash drive inside that belonged to the now-dead man. Ellie gets the drive’s contents decrypted, but before long discovers she’s under surveillance. Suspecting Delcroft and the ambitious Hollander are behind it, she’s unconvinced when Hollander tells her the dead man was a Chinese spy. Ellie and her boyfriend, Luke, try to find answers, but they don t realize how far they have ventured into the dangerous echelons of hidden power. When Ellie s daughter is kidnapped and Charlotte Hollander disappears, it becomes terrifyingly clear that Ellie is in way over her head, and more lives are on the line including her own."

My review:
Jump Cut is a smart, sharply written, intense modern day thriller. I listened to the audio and was on the edge of my seat. My husband passing by stopped to listen. A totally engaging story.  Recommend.

The Way You Bite by Zoe Forward

Blurb:

When King Werewolf shows up in veterinarian Vee Scarpa's ER, she's livid.

Her father, North American head honcho vampire, has threatened a chilling or else if she "accidentally" helped a wolf again, especially since they're at war. But she's tempted by the sexy wolf. And his deadly blood calls to her in a way that should set off warning bells...

A promise to his brother in arms obliges Lexan Dimitrov to rescue the aristocrat vampire before her family discovers her secret—a secret Vee herself isn't even aware of. What he didn't expect was to find her sexy-as-hell. He's not into vamps, yet the inescapable heat building between them is a delicious temptation guaranteed to end in total disaster.

My review:

The Way You Bite is an inventive, exciting, adventurous vampire v. werewolf tale. I really enjoyed Velvet as a smart, stand up, take no crap kind of gal. Lexan Dimitrov is sexy as heck in a Neanderthal kind of way and the bad guys made you want to destroy something. Strap in for a terrific read.

His to Protect by L.K. Shaw

Blurb:

The daughter of a drug addict always looking for her next fix, Katherine Marsh grew up learning how to fend for herself. Her only saving grace: neighbor, Emmett Jackson. Emmett’s house was Katie’s refuge when things got tough. He also became the father she never had. Until one fateful night when Katie witnesses his murder. She runs to the police, not realizing that someone knows what she saw.

Daniel Webber always dreamed of being a police officer. Graduating from the academy at the top of his class, he quickly moved up the ranks from beat cop to lead detective. He was well respected in the precinct until he made costly mistakes. His life is in a downward spiral and he’s days away from suspension when she walks through the door. Instinctively, he knows Katie will either be his downfall or his redemption.

What happens when a cop, whose career is on the line, falls for the key witness in a murder? Can he protect her before she becomes the killer’s next victim?

My review:

His to Protect is a romantic suspense novel without the BDSM elements the other books in this series have had to date. I will have to admit that this is not my favorite of the series. Mostly because of the insta-love bit at the beginning. I mean a victim walks into the cop shop and the detective ends up kissing her when they have just met and the woman is traumatized. The rest of the story was really great but I just couldn’t get past that. This book can be read as a stand-alone but has characters from previous books appear.

Honey In The Rock (Sweet & Dirty BBW Romance Book 5) by Cathryn Cade

Blurb:

Her real world can be wilder than her fantasies… if she dares.

He’s a hot, dangerous biker who goes through women like whiskey. She’s a shy, BBW gamer who crushes on him from afar.

But when a threat on her life throws them together for a wild weekend, they go up in flames.

Now she can't keep her distance… until he pushes her away. Can’t get water from a rock, but can this BBW beauty spin honey from a rolling stone?

Don’t miss this dark, sexy ride through danger, as another man of the Devil's Flyers MC learns that love's sweetness is worth the sting!

My review:

A fantastic addition to the
Devil's Flyers!
Billie Boggs couldn’t be more different than her sister Lesa. Lesa is sexy and exciting and living with a hot biker. Billie is a gamer girl. A geek in a cardigan. A girly girl. But when she is threatened the Devil's Flyers MC consider her one of their own and nobody messes with theirs. If that protection comes in the sexy form of Rocker Hayes, the guy she has been crushing on from afar, well she can get behind that. Rocker doesn’t do repeats. He doesn’t do good girls but oh how he wants to do Billie.
I love how Billie stands up to Rocker and for herself. She may be a good girl but she is no pushover.

This is one of 22 stories in the Dark Desires box set and I will get around to reading and reviewing the rest but had to share the gooey goodness that is Honey In The Rock.

Play That Funky Music White Koi (Lemon Layne Mystery #2) by Dakota Cassidy

Blurb:

Welcome back to Fig Harbor, Washington home to amateur sleuth Lemon Layne, the best Sherlock Holmes wannabe west of the Mississippi!

No way. Vampires aren't real. Period! Or are they?

Find out in Play That Funky Music White Koi from USA Today bestselling cozy mystery author Dakota Cassidy. Play That Funky Music White Koi is packed with twists, turns, and suspects that will keep you guessing.

My tiny town of Fig Harbor's just recovering from our last tango with murder, only to be faced with yet another--and this time, it sure looks an awful lot like a vampire's on the loose in the PNW.

Vampires are just Twilight fiction, right?

I'm not so sure after a murder victim is found in my koi pond right next to my favorite fish, Koi George, (not good!) with bite marks on her neck, and a gothic antique chalice next to her body with blood residue.

By now, everyone knows I can't keep my nose out of a good mystery. But when I literally stumble upon an important clue linking a town official to the murder and what looks like a real live vampire cult, I decide it's time to gather up all the garlic I can buy and put my sleuthing shoes back on!”

This contemporary cozy mystery has it all, from the local doomsday prepper to an out of control pet monkey, a mother who would drive a saint to drink, and of course a dead body in the Koi pond.

My review:

Lemon Layne is back! You would have thought that her adventures in Prawn of the Dead would have put her off sleuthing but when a body is found in her koi pond she just has to find out what happened. There is a crazy mix of suspects and the usual bunch of crazies at Lemon’s back that guarantee this to be a fun mix of murder and mayhem. If you are looking for a clean, fun, cozy mystery I heartily recommend Lemon Layne.

Esteemed Vampire Cat (Colt Harper #1) by Tyrolin Puxty

Blurb:
Colt Harper hates it when you pat a cat the wrong way, or when you upload their faux pas to YouTube. In fact, he'll probably kill you for it.

As a self-proclaimed master vampire cat, Colt never imagined he'd be sent to community service at a revolting community theater. And for what? Killing humans who don't buy the expensive brand of cat food? Talk about unfair.

Still, working with a nervous werewolf and a monster addicted to tickling wasn't on his to-do list.

What's worse, is he's falling for a human. Sure, she has green eyes. Sure, she fosters stray cats. But she's still a disgusting human.

So why is he risking his own life to save her from the chasers?

My review:
Colt Harper: Esteemed Vampire Cat is a quirky, tongue in cheek paranormal work of art. Take a conflicted werewolf, Jax, a tickle fairy with control issues, Lexie, and an Esteemed Vampire Cat, Colt, who enjoys being evil and throw them together for community service and you are asking for trouble. Now add in some Chasers (humans who protect the world from the monsters) and a newbie vampire cat and you have a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat and rollicking with laughter. If you are looking for something different give Colt and the gang a try.
