Absolute Power Exchange – Twenty Years Later by Candace Blevins

Blurb:
What happens to a kinky couple after twenty years of marriage, with kids in the house and two active careers? Can they keep the magic alive? Will he still own her, or will they have relaxed into something comfortable?

When the rules, protocols, and constant reminders of his ownership slide away and get lost in the daily shuffle of life, can they get the magic back?

Warning: Intense kink, not for the faint of heart. If you’ve read Candace Blevins’ contemporary Safeword series and enjoyed it, you’ll be fine. If you’re here because you’ve read her paranormal titles, please proceed with caution.

My review:
Not being in the kink life doesn’t stop my curiosity nor enjoyment of kinky books. I usually go into it with the “Your kink is not my kink, but your kink is okay” mindset. The premise of this book is one that had intrigued me for a while. Can a kinky lifestyle survive kids? This short intense novella describes a couple recommitting themselves after twenty years. I’ll admit at times this was hard for me to read. If not for the authors sympathy toward the characters and patience in explaining why the characters felt the way they did I might have been more upset. There is one scene that bothered me more than others and I would have felt more comfortable if it had happened in one of the authors paranormal books. All in all a good story but like the disclaimer states not for the faint of heart.

Diminished (Winter's Wrath #2) by Bianca Sommerland

Blurb:
When Shiori Ayase comes across a casting call to dance on stage for Winter’s Wrath with a model she idolizes, she jumps on the chance. She needs this opportunity to break free from the control of her step-father, and she made her sister a promise on her deathbed. One that involves learning if the Trousseau brothers are the type of men that can be trusted. What better way to find out than by spending a few weeks with them on the road?

Brave Trousseau has to face the damage he’s done to the band in his efforts to push his younger brother away. But then his goddess, a young woman with a sharp wit and moves that drive him crazy, joins the band on tour to take over the sexy performance meant to entice the crowd, Brave ends up more than motivated to be on his best behavior.

Unfortunately, he’s not the only one enchanted with the girl. Malakai Noble, the band’s bassist, has always been a strong, steady presence at the core of Winter’s Wrath, but he’s now become Brave’s most bitter rival. How can Brave show he’s changed with Malakai's constant reminders of every mistake he’s made? With the band on the line, and Shiori stealing her way into his heart, maybe there’s only one way to prove he’s the better man. And that’s by letting her go.

My review:
m/m/f
Diminished (Winter's Wrath #2) by Bianca Sommerland picks up shortly after where the first book Backlash(Winter's Wrath #1) left off. The band is back together but Brave is not in charge. The guys are just starting to forgive him and he is trying to be a better man and bandmate.  Diminished is several stories bound into one terrific tale. We find out more about Braves dysfunctional relationship with his older (now deceased) brother Valor, we meet the innocent seeming Shiori Ayase who is the new dancer for Winter's Wrath and a temptation for Brave and the band’s bassist Malakai Noble. Alder is still dealing with the trauma of getting stabbed. And we get a new bandmate. Mix it all up and you have one hell of a tale. This is more than rock and roll romance this is a tale of love and redemption. There is love, music and some steamy sex and I loved it all.  Can’t wait for more.

Trouble Walks In (The McGuire Brothers #2) by Sara Humphreys

Blurb:
Big city K-9 cop Ronan McGuire loves women, loves his dog, loves his job - but when old flame Maddy Morgan moves into his jurisdiction, he can’t think about anyone else.
Ronan knows she’s way out of his league, but he’s determined to help Maddy live life to the fullest.
Maddy has immersed herself in work and swiftly made a name for herself in the hot New York City real estate market. She’s looking for safety, not love, but Ronan McGuire is as persistent as he is sexy, and his crooked smile is hard to resist. But all other concerns are wiped away when Maddy goes missing and Ronan and his bloodhound K-9 partner are tasked with finding her and bringing her home.

My review:
Trouble Walks In is a fun contemporary romance with a bit of suspense thrown in. Although it’s the second in the series it can be read stand alone.  I loved that the characters weren’t twenty somethings but a bit older. K-9 cop Ronan McGuire and Real Estate agent Maddy Morgan both come from the same small town and have ended up in New York. She is escaping the death of her lover of 10 years. It’s been a year and a half and Maddie has buried herself in her work and she is damn good at it. Her best friend has asked Ronan to look after her which he doesn’t find a chore. He wants her but has to respect her grieving process. Now there is someone killing real estate agents and Maddy could be at risk. Can Ronan breakthrough Maddies self-imposed shell in time? This was a sweet escape.

Night Shift (Midnight, Texas #3) by Charlaine Harris

Blurb:

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Sookie Stackhouse novels—“the Mark Twain of things that live under your bed”*—comes a new novel of Midnight, Texas, the town where some secrets will never see the light of day...

At Midnight’s local pawnshop, weapons are flying off the shelves—only to be used in sudden and dramatic suicides right at the main crossroads in town.

Who better to figure out why blood is being spilled than the vampire Lemuel, who, while translating mysterious texts, discovers what makes Midnight the town it is. There’s a reason why witches and werewolves, killers and psychics, have been drawn to this place.

And now they must come together to stop the bloodshed in the heart of Midnight. For if all hell breaks loose—which just might happen—it will put the secretive town on the map, where no one wants it to be...

My review:

I love this quirky series! I purchased this book when it came out and somehow it got put to the bottom of my TBR. I am so glad I found it. I stayed up way too late reading it. We find out a lot more about the residents of Midnight when they all have to pitch in to stop the trouble brewing at the crossroads. We even get a new resident. This series isn’t for everyone but if you like things a little off center I suggest you give this series a shot.

Wanted and Wired (Tether #1) by Vivien Jackson

Blurb:
A rip-roarin' new snarky, sexy sci-fi paranormal romance series with the perfect balance of humor, heat, and heart. Now that Texas has seceded and the world is spiraling into chaos, good guys come in unlikely packages and love sprouts in the most inconvenient places...

Rogue scientist • technologically enhanced • deliciously attractive
Heron Farad should be dead. But technology has made him the man he is today. Now he heads a crew of uniquely skilled outsiders who fight to salvage what's left of humanity: art, artifacts, books, ideas-sometimes even people. People like Mari Vallejo.

Gun for hire • Texan rebel • always hits her mark
Mari has been lusting after her mysterious handler for months. But when a by-the-book hit goes horribly sideways, she and Heron land on the universal most wanted list. Someone set them up. Desperate and on the run, they must trust each other to survive, while hiding devastating secrets. As their explosive chemistry heats up, it's the perfect storm...

My review:
Wanted and Wired is a fireball of a scifi romance. The chemistry between Heron and Mari is off the charts. I loved the role reversal with Mari being rough and tough and stuff and Heron being the brainy one. The story started out a little slow with world building but when that was done it took off like a bull from a chute complete with twists and turns that will leave you breathless. This story has several sub plots that will keep you guessing and wanting more.

Say Goodbye to Hollywood by Jenny Trout

Blurb:
When she’s hired to adapt the blockbuster novel, Beautiful Darkness, for film, screenwriter Jessica Yates sees an opportunity she can’t pass up. The only thing standing between her and a guaranteed hit movie is the author. Lynn Baldwin’s rise from Midwestern housewife to literary superstardom has gone straight to her head, and she’s not willing to see her creation hit the screen without her total approval.
As the entire creative team struggles with the hard-to-please author, Jessica’s personal life spins out of control. When there’s more relationship drama and kinky sex off the page than on, she’s forced to reevaluate what she really wants—before Beautiful Darkness destroys her Hollywood dreams forever.

My review:
If you are one of those that gets butt hurt when anyone disses 50 Shades don’t read this book! Say Goodbye to Hollywood is a wonderful farce that exposes Hollywood and the crap storm that surrounded the making of the movie. The relationship between Jessica and Jack was fun to watch in all of its iterations. Watching Jessica deal with the ego of newbie author Lynn Baldwin’s ego had me in stitches. I loved the character of Jessica. She thought she had it all together until she didn’t. This book was fantastic!

He Sphinx I'm Sexy (1Night Stand) by D.L. Jackson

Blurb:
One night. One party of a lifetime. One deadly secret that could end it all.

All hybrids must die.
Not your average alien visitor, Lucas Saar has lived on earth for years, and there is only one reason he relocated to the green planet, to hunt down hybrids. These half-Terran, half-Saarian men and women could expose the existence of his world and his people, something that must never happen. He’s never failed a mission until Alaska, a year before, and now he’s determined to get back in his leader’s good graces by taking down a woman he’s tracked halfway across the globe.

When he discovers his target has signed up for the same dating service he tried to use in Alaska, he decides to use it again as cover to get closer to his prey. After all, the archeologist isn’t hard to look at, and there is something about her he can’t resist. Too bad he has to kill her when the date is over.

No more dating within my profession.
Doctor Nadia Crane is in Egypt, guiding her final class through a dig. She’s had bad luck with men and worse with her health. After a recent physical, her physician has determined her cells are mutating and she could be dying. Nadia signs up for Madame Eve’s 1Night Stand service, in hopes she may experience one night of bliss before she dies. A prearranged evening might get her what she desires, except, Lucas Saar isn’t what she asked for on her application. He’s an archeologist, and exactly the kind of man she didn’t want to date. Worse, her gut is sending up all kinds of red flags.

Now Doctor Nadia Crane isn’t sure if she should jump him or dump him. Only one night will tell.

My review:
He Sphinx I'm Sexy is a fun and sexy follow up to This Endris Night (1Night Stand #61) but can be read standalone. Lucas Saar is just doing his job. Protecting the home planet. To do that he needs to eliminate the half-Terran, half-Saarian hybrids so their existence doesn’t out the visitors from afar. Doctor Nadia Crane thinks she is dying but plans to go out with a bang. She’s asked Madame Eve to find her a hot date to show up her ex at the company party. Lucas can help her out before he has to kill her can’t he? I love the title and the cover. I really got a kick out of Nadia. This story may be short but it packs a punch.
