Midnight Action (Killer Instincts #5) by Elle Kennedy

Blurb:

She’s got a broken heart...
and a fully loaded arsenal....

Ex–army ranger Jim Morgan leads a team of elite mercenaries, but eighteen years ago in Paris, he was part of a black ops unit whose mission was to hunt down a rogue operative. In order to trap the criminal, Jim seduced Noelle, the man’s daughter—a ruthless act that cost him the love of his life and turned her into a mortal enemy. Now he can’t trust her, but he still desires her. He also needs her help....

Older, wiser, and unwilling to play the fool again, Noelle runs a group of highly skilled assassins. And she’s just been offered the hit of the century: Eliminate Jim Morgan. History gives them no reason to trust each other, but with their lives in jeopardy at the hands of a common enemy, the lines between love and hate are soon blurred. Now Noelle and Jim must face the past if they want to have a future—let alone a future together.

My review:

FINALLY! This was the book that we have been teased with through 4 books and a novella.  We finally get the low down on the love/hate relationship between Jim & Noelle.  You can read this book standalone but it won’t be half as much fun.  I loved this book!  Filled with action adventure and some off the charts sex this is a page turner that will keep you up past your bedtime.  There are a whole lot of surprises I never saw coming.  Go buy this book.

Horse (The Bloody Bucket #1) by Tilly Greene

Blurb:
While living in Ireland farming peat, Jack Murphy knew there was no way he’d follow the time honored tradition for second sons to dedicate themselves to the church. He liked women too much, so with the blessing of his parents, he left for a new life in America. New York City held his attention for a couple years but he grew tired of the violent side of life he took on and boarded a train south and west to Cowler Texas. His first night in town he finds himself sitting at a poker table with the saloon in the pot. No way did he think he’d win, but if he did, well, it was worth a chance.

After gaining the name Horse, two gun fights and a sexy woman wearing spectacles collide, he finds the life he always wanted.

My review:
This is one hot historical. It has been a while since I’ve read a western historical but I really got a kick out of Horse.  It reads like an hour long episode of a television western (with a bit more sex). That is both what I liked and didn’t like about the book.  I liked the characters and the fact that it was fast paced with some snappy dialogue. But it really felt too short. I feel like there should be a commercial for coming attractions.  Overall this is a fun read and I hope we can revisit Cowler, TX in the future.

Elusive Hero by Joey W. Hill

Blurb:
Vampires drink blood, they’re superior to humans, and they’re sexual Dominants. Every vampire knows those truths. A vampire’s human servant is property, plaything, pawn--and the only living being a vampire can trust. Though she may own him, body, heart and soul, a human servant keeps a vampire from feeling alone in her dangerous, political world. But Kaela has a secret. She’s a vampire with a burning need to submit, to belong to a Master, and definitely not a vampire Master, who will use the advantage for political or emotional domination. But what kind of human male will consent to becoming a vampire’s servant, a 300 year life of utter servitude, to be her Master behind closed doors? An invitation to Eden offers her the chance to discover her elusive hero…and indulge the bliss of surrender.
Elusive Hero is part of the Invitation to Eden series and a book of the Vampire Queen series.

My review:
Elusive Hero will take you on an intimate sensual adventure.  It asks if a born submissive can perform like a dominant outside of the bedroom.  The answer is yes.  Lady Kaela is a made vampire who was born a natural service submissive but to survive in her new life as a vampire she has had act like a dominant for her safety and those she has charge of.  It’s worked for 175 years.  But it has taken its toll.  When the opportunity to explore her submissive fantasies arises can she indulge? More importantly will she be able to give it up when it is over?
Garron Rand has been through hell on earth and has the scars to prove it.  He has healed while working on Eden Island and has become one of their best professional Dominants. When he hears of Kaela’s predicament he is intrigued and volunteers to help her rediscover her submissive side.
90 percent of this book is interaction between only Garron & Kaela.  There is a lot of mind play as well as some kinky release.  But it isn’t until they interact with others that the real question of the book comes into play.  Can Master Garron be a Master in the bedroom but a servant out of it? Will Kaela be able to protect him? Should they even try?
Once again Joey W. Hill takes you places you never thought you would go and makes you enjoy the ride.  Though this takes place in the world of the Vampire Queen series it can be read standalone.  Although if you really want to know what Kaela and Garron are up against you should really read this series.

Shifted Plans (ROAR) by Brandy Walker

Blurb:
Avery Hillman has one year of college left. Once it’s over, she has plans. BIG plans. A job managing her family’s medical practice, an apartment of her own, and a new life where she’s the one in charge. No hovering family, no annoying siblings, and no mate to distract her.

Declan Weller is about to cross one more thing off his ten-year plan. One more class and he can transfer to the sheriff’s job and new life waiting for him. He isn’t looking for his mate and, as far as he’s concerned, finding her can wait another two years.

The Fates have a plan of their own. One that includes throwing Avery and Declan together. It’s high time those two found each other and learn the most important thing of all…. Sometimes, plans need to shift.

My review:
I LOVE THIS BOOK!  I love reading shifter stories but sometimes the authors get lazy with the biologic imperative of mating and use it to explain away some really crappy behavior.  Not so in this book.  The author acknowledges the mating heat but calls out the crappy behavior when warranted.  I like that the students are seniors and have a chance to get through the mating heat and still succeed with their ambitions.  Avery is strong and soft at the same time.  She knows who she is and what she wants but is plagued with the same insecurities any young woman has.

Reckoning (Fallen Siren #2) by S.J. Harper

Blurb:
Join Agents Emma Monroe and Zack Armstrong.
She’s sacrificed. He’s suffered. They’ve both been betrayed.
Now it’s time for a reckoning.

Special Agent Emma Monroe has a secret. She’s a Fallen Siren, cursed by the gods and banished to Earth for her failure to prevent the kidnapping of Persephone. As an FBI agent she saves the lives of others believing redemption could be one rescue away.

Her partner Zack is a werewolf and former Black Ops sniper who once carried out a string of questionable assignments. Now he’s determined to atone for his past. Ironically, there’s a portion of his past Zack doesn’t remember—an affair with Emma. Giving into their attraction for one another almost led to their undoing. Now it’s back to business as usual.

While trying to unravel the mystery behind a series of kidnappings in Southern California, Emma and Zack become entangled with political tensions in the vampire and Were worlds. Not to mention the struggles they face in their relationship with one another. With so much uncertainty, they come to realize the only thing they can really count on is one another…or can they?

My review:
The team of Samantha Sommersby and Jeanne C. Stein aka S.J. Harper have done it again.  They’ve mixed magic, mystery and a bit of sexual tension and turned out another terrific tale.  This is one of those books that will have you rooting for the werewolf or the vamp but Emma is no emo shrinking violet and her mantra “Redemption could be one rescue away” is what gets her through the day.  This is a fast paced read that will keep you turning pages and wanting more.

Hot Ink (Montgomery Ink #1.5) by Carrie Ann Ryan, Cari Quinn and Sidney Bristol

Blurb:

Forever Ink by NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan
A Montgomery Ink Novella
The idea of a May-December romance has never looked so hot when it comes to broody lawyer, Morgan and sizzling tattoo artist, Callie. Between conniving family members, blondes with too much time on their hands, and their own misgivings, trust in the bedroom and out of it won't come easy.

Takedown by USA Today Bestselling Author Cari Quinn
A Tapped Out Bonus Novella
After honorably discharged Navy SEAL Liam Walsh discovers his estranged brother, Slater, is living platonically with Abby, the only woman Liam ever loved, he vows to remind her of their scorching history. But Abby has changed since Liam left, and he only has one long weekend to stake his claim...

Bound Memories by Sidney Bristol
A Bayou Bound Novella
Kit Carson is back in his home town to do more than promote his latest reality TV win on Tattoo King. He's returned to win over the woman who kinked up his world, but Renee LeBlanc isn't the girl he remembers. Ten years can go in a blink of an eye and he won't let her walk away from him again.

My review:

Three smoking HOT stories.

Forever Ink – Morgan is hitting the big 40 and is tired of playing by the rules.  He has taken over the family business and done as he should for everyone else.  Now he wants to do something for himself.  He goes to get a tattoo at Montgomery Ink and is taken with Callie, the young woman who is assigned to do his ink.  They have obstacles to overcome like the 15 year age difference, his mother and the fact that they come from two very different worlds.  But nothing worth having comes easy.  This is a sassy, sexy story that will have you rooting for these two to get together. I loved it.
Takedown –Liam took the easy way out walking away from Abby and his family not realizing how much they needed him.  Now he has been medically discharged from the Navy and he needs them and needs to make amends. This second chance romance will leave you breathless.  Not only is the sex super-hot the action never slows.
Bound Memories – The hottest and kinkiest of these three stories Bound Memories is also a second chance romance.  Kit and Renee were lovers when Kit got an opportunity to leave town and he did.  He walked away without saying goodbye and broke both their hearts in doing so.  Now he is back and wants to try again. Renee can risk her body but is not so sure about her heart.  Break out the fan and the ice water this is habanero hot!

The Eskimo Slugger by Brad Boney and Brad Boney giveaway

Thanks to my friend Betty I was introduced to the works of Brad Boney.  I've read and really enjoyed these three interconnected books and am happy to share them with you.  These are m/m romance so if you aren't into that don't enter.  If you've never read m/m romance you couldn't do better than these.

My favorite cover

Blurb:
It’s the summer of 1983, and Trent Days is Major League Baseball’s rookie sensation. Born in Alaska to an Inupiat mother, the press have dubbed him the Eskimo Slugger, but a midseason collision at home plate temporarily halts his meteoric rise to the top.

Sent back to Austin to recuperate, Trent visits his favorite record store, Inner Sanctum, where he meets amiable law student Brendan Baxter. A skip in the vinyl of New Order’s “Blue Monday” drives Trent back to Brendan, and their romance takes them into uncharted territory.

As Trent’s feelings move from casual to serious, he’s faced with an impossible dilemma. Does he abandon any hope of a future with Brendan and return to the shadows and secrets of professional sports? Or does he embrace the possibility of real love and leave baseball behind him forever? As he struggles with his decision, Trent embarks on a journey of self-discovery—to figure out who he really is and what matters most.

My review:
Please read The Nothingness of Ben AND The Return before reading this book.
If you’ve read The Return you go into this book knowing how it ends.  But even so it is well worth the read.  Just knowing the end doesn’t diminish the journey. I don’t know if I would have enjoyed it as much if I hadn’t read the two previous books.  This book left me sad and happy at the same time.  I loved the story and the characters even if they did leave me in the intellectual dust at times.  This story like any great tale left me thinking and that makes it all worthwhile.
