The Nightshade Guild: Mage You Look by Abigail Kade

Blurb:

A grumpy Mage, a cute delivery guy, and a baby Princess hide out from the entire paranormal world in a cabin high in the mountains. What could go wrong?

Turns out, I shouldn't have asked.

My name is Finnegan Padrick. You know, the grumpy Mage. A call has come from the Nightshade Guild for me to help protect the Elvin Princess after her parents were killed, and I'm completely lost. What the hell does a half Fae Mage hermit know about babies? When my adorable delivery guy, Henry, notices all the baby things I've ordered, he starts talking... and talking. His happy chatter about kids, and insistence I need his help should annoy me, but I'm feeling just the opposite. He's adorable, remember?

I want to get to know Henry better. To be honest, I don't know much about him at all. I have to keep the little Princess safe above all else, but I also need to keep Henry in the dark about our world and it's dangers. When we're ambushed by some Dark Fae trying to steal the baby, we have to run to survive. That's when I find out Henry isn't who... or what... I thought he was. One minute I'm wondering if I can trust him and the next he's the one keeping us all alive. Safety has to be our first priority, but once we're safe, I plan to get some answers, and maybe get a little up close and personal with the guy who's brought sunshine back into my gloomy world.

My review:

Mage You Look is a delightful tale of love and magic filled with sweet surprises. Finn and Henry are adorable together.

Captured by the Lion (Alpha Claimed #3) by Milly Taiden

Blurb:

Welcome to the world of the Alpha Claimed. Each story features a strong woman and the man or men that love her. Every book is standalone, but once you read one you'll want to read the others.

Leigh Hale is on the run from a dangerous ex-boyfriend after she turned him into the police for running a Ponzi scheme. Now, she’s back home and looking to start fresh. Of course, she doesn’t expect to find the one man she’s always been weak for at a coffee shop before she has a chance to shower or brush her hair.

Xander Caze has his hands full with his businesses and family. But when Leigh returns to town, he knows he needs to see her. He hadn’t expected for adult Leigh to be so beautiful, sassy and full of life. Not only that, she’s his mate. It boggles his mind to realize he’s known her most of his life and just realized the same woman who proposed to him at five years old was meant to be his future wife.

Leigh’s ex isn’t the only problem in her life. No longer interested in going back to work at a big city, Leigh needs to find a new job. When danger comes calling from all sides, she’ll get help from an unlikely person. Staying alive becomes a priority and Xander is doing his best to protect her. Too bad he might not get to her in time.

My review:

Alpha lion shifter Xander Caze has poured his energies into building his casino and hotel empire, tending to his pride and one night stands. Leigh is his best friends sister and she is in trouble. She is also his mate. These two tickled my funny bone and turned my heart to mush.

Flame (Galaxy Alien Mail Order Brides, #2) by Michelle M. Pillow

Blurb:

Vin (aka Flame) can’t believe he’s in yet another holding cell. Stupid Earthlings wouldn’t know fun if it bit them in the hindquarters. Speaking of fun, the hot little number who claims she’s a guard at the jail has been making his body respond in ways he’s very happy about. If only she’d get on board with the plan and help him escape back to his ship. First she’d have to believe he’s an alien. Right now she’s taken to thinking he’s crazy.

My review:

This is one of three books that run concurrently but can be read standalone. Vin was adorable. I loved that he was unaware of how good looking he was and how innocent he came across because his life experiences were so different. I read this in audio form and was thrilled to find I’ve been pronouncing most the terms and names correctly.  A fun escape.

Not that it matters to his Wyvern. His beast is more than willing to aid the tempting female, but will his desire outweigh his need for the truth?

Daeja crash lands on Earth after her Commander demands she retrieve four stasis pods that had been sent to earth decades ago. The male was as untruthful as he was unworthy. But she has no choice but to obey when he threatens her grandfather.

Imagine her surprise when she is caught by the Federal Paranormal Unit moments after she lands. Daeja is wary of her guard and has reason to be. The seven-foot-tall male threatens to send her into her heat cycle with just one of his thorough glances.

Can she trick her protector as the FPU demands, or will his relentless pursuit of the truth endanger them all?

*Fast-paced, insta-love Alien Shifter romance for lovers of paranormal romance

My review:

Scifi romance. Even super alien guys are still guys and manage to mess up. I loved watching Wyvern shifter Heliodore Wessex woo then grovel to pink haired Daeja. Sweet and steamy.

Rune of Passing (Immortal Keeper) by Lia Davis

Blurb:

Natasha Spencer isn’t in a hurry to get another guardian. Her first, a vampire who raised her as his own daughter, is gone and it nearly broke her when he was killed. She isn’t ready to put her trust and life in someone else’s hands. She’s just fine on her own, working a normal job and living a semi-normal life.

However, Nat is anything but normal. Having a gift that allows her to see into other dimensions and create portals doesn’t mean she needs a vampire to look out for her. She can take care of herself.

Just like she took care of the demon who killed her father. Or so she thought.

Her world takes a deadly turn when the murderer comes after her and almost succeeds in killing her. But an immortal savior comes to her rescue.

Zakariya Hawkins isn’t a random hero saving Nat from a demon attack. He’s her new guardian, and the only man that makes her blood run hot. If he thinks she’ll just hand her heart over to him, he has another thing coming.

But she needs him to help find out the truth behind her father’s murder. Doing so tears down her defenses and opens her heart. But will the truth destroy them both?

My review:

Rune of Passing (Immortal Keeper) by Lia Davis is a tale of a young woman coming into her own. Her own power and discovering what she wants and needs out of life. Nat is smart and strong and I really liked that she stood up for herself in more ways than one. This is a feisty woman and a hot vampire and demon hunting rolled into a delightful package.

The Bounty (Fox and O'Hare #7) by Janet Evanovich & Steve Hamilton

Blurb:

FBI agent Kate O’Hare and charming con man Nick Fox race against time to uncover a buried train filled with Nazi gold.

Straight as an arrow special agent Kate O’Hare and international con man Nick Fox have brought down some of the biggest criminals out there. But now they face their most dangerous foe yet—a vast, shadowy international organization known only as the Brotherhood.

Directly descended from the Vatican Bank priests who served Hitler during World War II, the Brotherhood is on a frantic search for a lost train loaded with $30 billion in Nazi gold, untouched for over seventy-five years somewhere in the mountains of Eastern Europe.

Kate and Nick know that there is only one man who can find the fortune and bring down the Brotherhood—the same man who taught Nick everything he knows—his father, Quentin. As the stakes get higher, they must also rely on Kate’s own father, Jake, who shares his daughter’s grit and stubbornness. Too bad they can never agree on anything.

From a remote monastery in the Swiss Alps to the lawless desert of the Western Sahara, Kate, Nick, and the two men who made them who they are today must crisscross the world in a desperate scramble to stop their deadliest foe in the biggest adventure of their lives.

My review:

A straight up non-stop action thrill ride of a treasure hunt. This installment has Nick and Kate and their dads hunting Nazi gold all over Europe. It has everything from a treasure map, nerdy professor to wondrously evil bad guys. This story is a total romp!

The biggest drug bust of my career just turned into an unexpected rescue mission. Women, each battered and bruised, found chained in a basement. One of them clings to me like I’m her knight in shining armor.

At least until the men who hurt her track her down. Now, I’ll do everything I can to make sure she stays safe. I never imagined that included falling in love.

My review:

This may be the best thing I’ve read by this author. This story features an incredibly strong young woman who has overcome horror after horror and still comes back fighting. This story is filled with twists, turns and love.  I loved this story.

A Cursed Midlife (Witching After Forty, #2) by Lia Davis & L.A. Boruff

Blurb:

Necromancer trainee, book seller, novel writer Ava Harper is settling into her new life with friends and her houseguests. And she definitely isn’t thinking about a certain hunky sheriff who pops in unannounced at every turn. And mostly ignoring her devilish new neighbor, a lingering Christmas present from herself.

She has bigger things to worry about. Like learning her newly woken powers. And convincing her house that she isn’t selling it so it will stop scaring off any visitors. Plus, she’s teaching a ghoul to use a computer. Why shouldn’t he? He can’t talk, he might as well be able to use social media.

Her life gets more complicated when the local coven decides Ava has dodged them for long enough. She doesn’t have any interest in joining the coven. She’s everything they turn their nose up at. A necromancer with a weird ability to heal people.

But they want her.

When a member of the coven is severely injured in a freak accident, the coven calls Ava in to heal her. And the more Ava learns about the so-called accident the more her past haunts her.

When other coven members fall victim to freak accidents, Ava is sure something dark is at play.

Once again, she puts her trust in her friends—and the deliciously mysterious man in charge of the local law enforcement—to get to the bottom of whoever is targeting witches.

My review:

Woo hoo! This is a fast paced in your face magical mystery romp. I love Ava and her menagerie of friends.  I hope she never finds a spell to send Luci home.

Blurb:

Years later, Jacob doesn’t know that the beauty he’s about to seduce in a small town bar is the woman he held in his arms all those years ago… and that she’s on the run from her past.

Even when secrets are revealed that threaten everything between them, he will lay everything on the line to keep her in his arms.

My review:

Smoking hot! This sexy second chance romance is off the charts steamy. Jacob is a bit of an alphahole and Sallie is a bit of a pushover when it comes to him but when the two get together the chemistry is palpable.  Cowboy loving and romantic suspense what’s not to love?

Dead Cat, Run by Annabelle Lewis

Blurb:

You’re where you’re meant to be. Run if you can.

High school senior Jenny Gallagher’s psychic abilities have made life in her small New England town a rocky one. Her premonitions and déjà vu have given her a reputation, but not one she’s happy with. Tragedy is about to strike again however, and this time she oddly doesn’t see it coming. Is her gift betraying her? Now what’s happening?

Not far from Jenny, Wellesley Professor Maximus Dyer also has a gift. To his thinking, a painful and useless one. Able to see the past, his ability has brought him insight into the field of history, but other than that, he’s never known what to make of it. Overwhelmed by the physic shocks his unprotected hands receive through touch, he’s frustrated that his secrets have made any deeply real, human relationships literally beyond his grasp. But someone new enters his life who doesn’t trigger a vision. A dog?

Sidrah Keeling runs determinedly optimistic through her life trying hard not to ask the big questions. Her foresight, her ability to see glimpses of the future in her dreams, often drive her to follow a path she doesn’t understand, but she listens to them. Recognizing that the guardrails of security she’s erected around her doesn’t mean she’s in control, she reluctantly stays alert, waiting for answers, uncertain if she’ll ever find them.

Lurking deep in his sensory deprivation tank, Turner Black sees it all. Born out of the great chaos of time, he once again feels the forces of good gathering to move against him. Not in this life. This time, his darkness would reign supreme. The hunt for his antithesis would begin again now. He couldn’t wait to feel his opponent in destiny bleed.

My review:

Dead Cat, Run is a brilliantly thrilling mind twist. The introduction to the main characters takes a bit but when you finally get into the meat of the tale you’ll be riveted to your seat. I’ll admit I picked this for the fabulous cover and the dog was my favorite character. I don’t think I’ve read this author before but I do hope we will see these characters again.

Drown Her Sorrows (Bree Taggert #3) by Melinda Leigh

Blurb:

Sheriff Bree Taggert is blindsided by a killer’s devious plan in number one Amazon Charts and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Melinda Leigh’s novel of escalating shock and suspense.

When Sheriff Bree Taggert discovers the body of a young woman floating near the bank of the Scarlet River, a note in her abandoned car suggests suicide. The autopsy reveals a different story. Holly Thorpe was dead long before she dropped off the bridge and hit the water.

As Bree and her investigator Matt Flynn delve into the case, secrets in Holly’s personal life complicate their efforts to solve the murder. Holly left behind a volatile marriage, an equally divisive relationship with her sister, and an employer whose intimate involvement with Holly was no secret. Each one has a motive for murder.

When Holly’s sister is terrorized by a stalker’s sick prank, and the prime suspect turns up dead, everything Bree was sure of is upended and her case goes off the rails. When the killer strikes close to home, Bree and Matt must race to solve the murders before one of their own becomes the next victim.

My review:

This is a thrilling mystery that hits close to home for Bree and Matt. The suspense is kept simmering throughout with twists and turns I surely didn’t see coming. I love that Bree is finally becoming more comfortable with her new role in the family and her slowly developing relationship with Matt. I truly enjoy this series and though this is the third in the series it can be read standalone just fine.

Coaching the Nerd (Nerds Vs Jocks #2) by Eli Easton & Tara Lain

Blurb:

Super-bod meets super-brain

What happens when marshmallow-bodied supernerd Sean volunteers to be on the jocks’ flag-football team? It screws Bubba’s fraternity’s chances at the coveted flag football title, that’s what.

Bubba is drafted to be Sean’s personal trainer. He has to whip Sean into shape and make sure he doesn’t F up their team.

Sean may be a supernerd, but to Bubba he’s funny, and wise, and kinda cute. He’s also the one person on campus who doesn’t see Bubba as a big, stupid jock.

One BIG problem. Sean’s motivation for getting into shape is to lose his virginity -- and Bubba isn’t happy when guys start sniffing around.

But Bubba’s straight. Isn’t he?

Can a big, dumb jock from Nowhere, Wisconsin change his whole life for a genius who just wants to get laid?

COACHING THE NERD is a total makeover, opposites attract, My Fair Lady trope, bi awakening, campus romance – that grabs your flag

My review:

Coaching the Nerd is a brilliant opposites attract story of discovery, expectations and love. Sean is an academic all-star whose parents expect great things from. Sean is also a 90 pound weakling who couldn’t get a guy to look at him through a microscope. When is fraternity needs someone to volunteer to join the ALA flag football team Sean sees it as a way to get in shape so he can get rid of his pesky virginity.

Bubba is a big guy who has dreams of being more than an auto mechanic like his father. People assume that because he’s a jock that he’s dumb. Sean believes in him and that makes all the difference. Bubba is done playing to stereotypes.

I adored this delightful tale and laughed and cried with the boys. I can hardly wait for the next installment.

Cold Feet (Largo Ridge #1) by Samantha A. Cole

Blurb:

The last thing Buck Thompson expects a few days after retiring from the military is to inherit a share of a ski resort. That solves his problem of trying to decide what to do now that he’s a civilian again. But he’s not the only one to return to Largo Ridge after a long absence.

When Regina Vaughn calls off her wedding at the last minute, her brother brings her back to their childhood home. She couldn’t marry a man she loved but wasn’t in love with. Only one man fell into that category—Buck. However, after their one and only kiss, when she’d been nineteen, he’d turned tail and run, leaving her confused and heartbroken.

For six years, Regina had been out of sight but not quite out of Buck’s mind. He’d made a big mistake back then, giving into the urge to kiss her. But she’d been sweet and naive, and he’d already had his heart hardened by the things he’d done and seen in combat, so he’d backed away from her for her own good. Since then, he’d been able to avoid her as much as possible during mutual visits to their hometown. With his PTSD, and guilt about lusting over his best friend’s sister, it’d been best to leave her alone.

Now, with them both living in Largo Ridge again, it’s getting harder to ignore the attraction growing stronger between them. Does Buck have the courage to stand up and love the woman his heart knows is his? And will Regina let him?

My review:

Runaway bride, best friends little sister. Yep and yep and yet this is still a delightful story of two souls who can heal each other and share the kind of love they’ve only dreamed of. This is a tale of love and hope that will leave you smiling.

Blurb:

Furio Lo Duca is a Stallion Shifter with serious problem. With Loyalists threatening to disrupt the balance of magic, the Guardians must pull together. They need to be at their strongest. Can this Jersey boy claim the sassy, smart-mouthed Jessenia, taking his rightful place among his team? Or will self-doubt destroy all he’s worked for?

My review:

Stallion Shifter Furio, met his mate kitchen witch Jessenia under less than stellar conditions. It seems that the former man-whore can’t do or say the right thing when it comes to the curvy witch and it’s driving them both nuts. This is a delightful tale of groveling and love.

Savage Vandal (82 Street Vandals #1) by Heather Long

Blurb:

Emersyn Sharpe doesn’t belong in our world

In fact, the very last place she should be is with us. But someone is hurting her. We’ve all seen it.

We tried to ignore the warning signs. We tried to trust the people around her.

We tried to believe in her world.

Too late.

When she nearly died in front of us, we had to act.

We took her.

She doesn’t belong in our world, but I’ll be damned if someone lays a finger on her under my watch.

I’ll kill them first.
Now that she’s here… I don’t know if I can let her leave.

I’m Jasper Horan, anyone who tries to take her will have to go through me and my boys.

You’ve been warned.

SAVAGE VANDAL is a full length mature college/new adult romance with enemies-to-lovers/love-hate themes. This is a reverse harem novel, meaning the main character has more than one love interest. This is book one in the series
.

My review:

Savage Vandal is a mind bending roller coaster ride where nothing is as it seems. Emersyn Sharpe is a gifted dancer in a gilded cage who is being abused. She’s been kidnapped by a gang of tattooed bad boys who have done nothing but help her to heal. She’s traded one cage for another.

This story deals with right and wrong and the thin line between the two. There is violence and humor and an ending that will leave you screaming.

Guardian King: New Worlds (Crystal Kingdom #7) by Milly Taiden

Blurb:

To Daphne, marriage is loud arguing and slamming doors. Her divorced parents only showed her how to have an unhealthy relationship. Now that she's found a man (blue fae, really) who makes her feel loved, she doesn't know how to open up for fear of him leaving like her father. She has to learn how to communicate with her mate before he decides she’s not not worth the trouble.

Anodon Hydiox, king of the winged fae, and his people are losing their home to the dark magic quickly taking over the dimension. He doesn't know who this new powerful being is or how to stop them. But he's found his queen and there's nothing he won't do to provide for her and keep her safe. If that means he ventures into the realm of dark magic to battle forces stronger than him, then so be it.

Will love be enough to keep them together or will outside forces tear them apart?

My review:

Because this is a part of a series it will be better if you’ve read the others but this can be read standalone.

Daphne is a complex character. She is shy yet strong. She wants love but isn’t sure if it is meant for her. When love comes for her in this tale she must dig deep to claim it. This action packed love story was breathtaking and totally enthralling.

Book 1: From Breath and Ruin
Book 2: From Flame and Ash
Book 3: From Spirit and Binding
Book 4: From Shadow and Silence

My review:

From Shadow and Silence is the mind-blowing conclusion to the Elements of Five epic fantasy. Lyric goes through hell to save her adopted realm. Secrets are revealed, alliances are made, traitors discovered and the ugliness of war yet love exists and makes it all worthwhile.

This book had me ugly crying at several points but it made the ending so much better. I’m exhausted. A fantastic read.

Death Dancer (Dangerous Dancers #2) by Tara Lain

Blurb:

Who knew ballet could be so dangerous?

Val Aalto, a tattooed ballet dancer, stands primed for huge success -- and all he wants is to dance Romeo.

Andrew Preston, a by-the-book detective, chases a serial killer who’s murdering dancers -- and all he wants is to catch him.

When the premier dancer who hates Val’s guts turns up murdered, Val and Andrew meet and what they want gets way hotter!

But mounting evidence makes Val the lead suspect, the killer starts stalking him, and Val’s dance of love turns to a dance with death in the ego-fueled halls of ballet.

DEATH DANCER is a romantic suspense, total opposites attract, creepy serial killer, sexy tatted bad boy, men-in- tights, MM romance – with dessert.

My review:

Young, gorgeous, driven ballet dancer Val Aalto has sacrificed for his art and is on the precipice of success. Detective Andrew Preston is by the book and very good at his job. This story features the beauty of the ballet and the filth of murder and the healing power of love. Val is adorable and as fierce as any athlete. Andrew is drawn to Val as a moth to a flame but it shakes the control he hangs on to so tightly. This is a brilliant romantic suspense.

Wanting More (Tiger Bite Book 4) by Brandy Walker

Blurb:

Jessie Montgomery-Murphy is ready for more. Fun that is. Something along the lines of hot and intimate. The man she’s had a crush on for years and is staring at her at her brother’s wedding looks to be the perfect candidate. She wants a no-string-attached, no-plans-for-the-future good time, something Bodie fits to a T. She wants to take what she wants, when she wants and not have to worry he’ll want more. If she starts to feel the mating pull earlier than expected and its tugging her right to Bodie, then she’ll deal with that later.

Bodie Donalson likes to think of himself as the guy people can rely on. He gives his time to his friends when they need it and sometimes when they don’t. His always-be-there attitude has resulted in a bit of a no-plans, nomadic life. He’s fine with it. It’s difficult to put down roots when you’re still waiting for the pull of your mate. After an encounter with the sister of his good friend, he’s got a good idea who his mate is. But she’s young and driven and not nearly ready for the kind of commitment he wants. He’ll take what she gives him, no matter how much his inner animal wants more.

My review:

Have you read the other Tiger Bite stories? You might enjoy this more if you’ve got the background that came from reading them. In this installment laid back Bodie discovers his best friends super smart sister just might be his true mate. Jessie Montgomery-Murphy has been super focused on her goals.
