Playing with Fire (Magical Romantic Comedies #1) by R.J. Blain

Blurb:

Warning: This novel contains excessive humor, a fire-breathing unicorn on a mission of destruction, magic, romance, and bodies. Proceed with caution.

Catering to the magical is a tough gig on a good day, but Bailey has few other options. Spiking drinks with pixie dust keeps the locals happy and beats cleaning up the world’s nastiest magical substances. She could live without serving Police Chief Samuel Quinn most days of the week, especially after destroying his marriage.

But when she’s targeted with a cell phone bomb containing gorgon dust capable of transforming her beloved home into a stone tomb, she’s tossed head first into a mess with her sexiest enemy. Add in his ex-wife angling for revenge, and Bailey must use every trick up her sleeve to survive.

The last thing she needs is to fall in love with Manhattan’s Most Wanted Bachelor.

Saving Manhattan will be tough enough.

My review:

Fast-paced laugh out loud. This book had me rolling on the floor. New to me author R.J. Blain created a totally warped rom com that had me from page one. Bailey and Quinn will steal your heart and break your brain. The first for me from this author but definitely not the last.

Featuring an enemies-to-lovers romance and a savvy female P.I., this giddy sexy detective series will keep you up all night. Perfect for fans of Hidden Legacy, Lizzie Grace, Blood Vice, Mist Riders, and the Sam Quinn series.

Includes the titles:

Blood & Ash

Death & Desire

Shadows & Surrender

Revenge & Rapture

My review:

I bought this off the authors web site after reading the ad on Facebook. This was the first thing I’d read by this author but I’m sure it won’t be the last.

Ash has issues. Daddy issues. Trust issues. She is a Sherlock Holmes fan extraordinaire. Her bestie Pria is hacker without peer. Her nemesis from summer camp is now the head of the magic house, a billionaire and hot af. And then there’s her new neighbor who may or may not be a plant.

These four books introduce us to these characters and some of their adventures. This brain twisting, laugh out loud series kept me up way past my bedtime.

Gibson (The Daddies of River Gorge #3) by Jacki James

Blurb:

Tristan Aguilar is keeping a big secret. But there’s one man he can’t hide from any longer…

“Thank you, Daddy.” Three little words uttered in a moment of weakness that have the power to undo all the years of progress Tristan has made as the mayor of River Gorge.

“Thank you, Daddy.” Three little words Gibson Carr had never dreamed he would hear come from his best friend’s gorgeous mouth.

But once the words are out there, Tristan can’t take them back or laugh them off as a joke, because Gibson isn’t having it. He’s wanted Tristan since he was old enough to know what wanting was, and he has no intention of letting fear keep them apart.

Mayor Tristan may have big plans for their small town, but Daddy Gibson has big plans for the mayor.

Come along with Gibson and Tristan as they learn how to navigate a transition from a forty-year friendship to love… all with the added pressure of an election year.

My review:

I really enjoyed this story. Mayor Tristan Aguilar is out as gay but he has been hiding something from the town and his best friend large animal veterinarian Gibson Carr. In vino veritas when Tristan, feeling sorry for himself gets drunk he lets his secret out and Gibson is going to take advantage of it and claim his boy.

Two long time friends, fear and lack of communication turn this love story into a cautionary tale for living your best life. I enjoyed watching Gibson find his happiness. I worried right along with Tristan about how the town would respond.

This book made my heart smile.

Bad Luck Vampire (Argeneau #36) by Lynsay Sands

Blurb:

New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands returns in this latest chapter of the Argeneau series with an immortal who is having a bit of bad luck while trying to woo his life mate…

Alasdair MacKenzie has never once considered himself unlucky in all the centuries he’s been an immortal rogue enforcer. Not until he meets Sophie. Finding the beautiful, smart, and funny woman who is his life mate is great luck, actually. But meeting her at a wedding full of Argeneaus, not to mention his own busybody uncles determined to “help him claim his woman,” is bad luck. And the fact that Sophie is someone else’s date? Well that’s just the next level of unlucky.

From the way her gaze travels over his body like a caress to the electric zing whenever they innocently touch…he wants her for all eternity! He’ll keep his hands off Sophie until her date is over. After that all bets are off and he’ll pull out all the stops to win her. Great plan—until he gets hit by a car. And then he’s poisoned. Is his luck that bad, or is someone out to stop this immortal from claiming Sophie as his life mate?

My review:

This is a laugh out loud addition to the series. Alasdair is a quiet kind of guy but still waters run deep. What’s a guy to do when he finds his life mate as a cousins date at a wedding filled with nosy relatives. Laugh along and find out.

Marked in Flames (Aspen Pack #5) by Carrie Ann Ryan

Blurb:

My mate rejected me, leaving me broken. I refuse to let that happen again—even if Steele is the one for me.

I hold the power of flame and future in my hands, but I know the world is watching. Waiting for us to fall.

The truth and lies that bind the Aspen Pack together are crumbling and I am to bear witness to its fate.

I know the Enforcer of the Aspens is my mate.

Yet neither of us want what fate decrees.

So, we’ll fight side by side and ignore the burning attraction between us.

Only when a traitor rocks the foundation of all we know, we might not have a choice to who we cling to in despair.

The vampires were only the pawns in this war.

The demons are on their way.

And if we’re not careful, the Aspen Pack could lose someone that breaks them.

And I could lose my mate.

Again.

My review:

Marked in Flames is the exciting conclusion to the Aspen Pack arc but I hope not the end of Carrie Ann Ryan’s wolves as I have questions.

Back to Marked in Flames this book will have you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end as the author strives to answer several ongoing questions. This book features Jade and Steele (finally) but it truly takes on the whole Aspen pack along with several others. This is not for those who haven’t read the series but for those that have OMG! Fantastic!

Save the Drama for Your Mama

Blurb:

Forget meet-cute. This is a meet-disaster.

Melody
Cooper Galloway was my bookstore crush for all of five minutes. Then he opened his mouth and ruined my fantasy. Things go from bad to worse when I arrive for my new job and HE greets me at the door. Yet as Cooper stomps around like an ogre, his piercing gaze tracks my movements as I work, and I can’t tell if he wants to fire me or practice his bodice-ripping skills. Something is simmering beneath our bickering, and it ain’t pasta sauce.

Cooper
I have three weeks to finish writing my novel, and a peaceful summer at my late mother’s home is just the ticket. However, my plans are derailed when my brother arrives with a crew, ready to restore the property. Amidst the chaos is Melody, the restoration specialist who’s also an expert in pushing my buttons. Strong, confident women are usually my weakness, but I don’t have time for distractions. Trouble is, after a few days together, Melody appears to be my muse. Now, I just need to keep her from consuming my thoughts long enough to finish my book.

My review:

Rich Amooi writes fast paced, smart romantic comedy and this is no exception. Save the Drama for Your Mama had me laughing out loud, giggle-snorting and spit taking while watching the disaster that is Melody and Cooper fall in love. I can’t express how much I loved this story.

But as they present a united front to the runaway teen, will they find the desire they once had still burns inside? Can a divorced couple go home again?

My review:

A surprise baby and second chances add in modern day cattle rustling and you have Texas Bombshell in a nutshell. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Sheriff Marc Singer’s world get shaken up by finding out that he has a 15 going on 16 year old daughter that he never knew existed. The girl is smarter than he is and brings his ex back into his world.

I enjoyed watching Marc’s life getting shook up a bit and watching him repair his relationship with the only woman he’s ever truly loved.

This book is filled with family, friends and love.

Aidan (Dublin Kings #3) by L.K. Shaw

Blurb:

At twenty-eight, I’m not supposed to be raising my three orphaned siblings and trying to run our family’s pub alone.
When dangerous men come to collect on Da’s debt—one I can’t pay—I go to the only person who might be able to help. My closest friend, Aidan.

My review:

I LOVE Aidan.  As the younger brother Aidan doesn’t really have a specific title in the organization. He is restless. One of the few things he finds peace in is his friendship with Sorcha. But she doesn’t know who his family is. She only sees the side of himself that he allows her to. This has gone on for five years. But now it all changes. This friends to lovers will bring a smile to your face. I really enjoyed this one.

Rocco (Danger Bluff #1) by Becca Jameson & Pepper North

Blurb:

Rocco
A mysterious billionaire saved my life.
Now, I owe him.
My team’s job: Save Sadie at all costs.
My goal: Convince her she’s mine.

Sadie

I wish I’d never noticed that error.
Now, I’m jobless, homeless, and broke.
Thank goodness the resort at Danger Bluff is hiring.
If only that chiseled mountaineer didn’t ooze Daddy vibes.

My review:

Rocco is a wonderful start to what looks to be a series about six very protective guys and the women they find to love.

Rocco and Sadie are perfect for each other. Now if he and the guys can just keep her alive long enough to convince her. Instalove and a lot of action.

How to Fake-Date a Vampire (Charming Cove #2) by Linsey Hall

Blurb:

Faking it with a vampire duke should be simple, right?

I’ve got one chance to prove to my coven that I’m worth my wand. But to do it, I’m going to have to make a deal with a vampire duke. I get to use his gorgeous estate in Cornwall to host the Beltane Ball--and in exchange, I’ll pretend to be his girlfriend. But it’s all a show for his grandmother.

The rules of our fake relationship are simple:
No flirting. No emotion. No sex. Simple, right?

Except I can’t seem to ignore the allure of the infuriating and devastatingly sexy vampire. Falling for a duke isn’t an option, though. I would lose the anonymity that protects me and my coven, and that would ruin my life.
And the lives of those in my coven.

So yeah, totally simple, right?

My review:

How to Fake-Date a Vampire is an adorable paranormal rom-com. It has some truly absurd laugh out loud moments. I loved Emma and her precious familiar Penelope. Aleric could have been human except for the blood drinking out of a glass. But even with that this was a fast paced romp that I truly enjoyed. Though this is part of a series it can be read stand alone just fine.

Catch Her Death (Bree Taggert #7) by Melinda Leigh

Blurb:

Sheriff Bree Taggert and those she loves become the target of a family’s deadly revenge in a chilling novel of suspense by #1 Amazon Charts and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Melinda Leigh.

After Sheriff Bree Taggert’s takedown of cold-blooded murderer Travis Ekin, his family vows revenge. Travis’s mother and brothers are every bit as violent, and Bree is in their crosshairs.

To complicate matters, Bree’s best friend, Dana Romano, walks into her date’s home and finds him shot in the chest. Dana tangles with an unidentified intruder, but he escapes through the back door. The crime scene is in another police department’s jurisdiction, and the lead investigator focuses on Dana as the prime suspect.

While Bree and investigator Matt Flynn work off the books to clear Dana, Bree’s family receives deadly threats. A second dead body and a shocking piece of evidence link the two cases. Bree and Matt must find the killer fast—before either case takes another deadly turn.

My review:

Sheriff Bree Taggert is back in another brain twisting case where Bree’s best friend, Dana Romano is the prime suspect. Bree knows that Dana wouldn’t have done it but can’t intrude on another cops case. But when the case she is working links to the case Dana is accused in she must find the killer before they kill again.

I love watching Bree grow as a person. She is the consummate cop but raising her sisters kids and her involvement with Matt have forced her to widen her life to more than the job. A fantastic addition to the series.

Wild As a Wolf (SWAT Book 15) by Paige Tyler

Blurb:

Nothing is more powerful than a werewolf—excerpt perhaps a mighty warrior.

Nothing surprises SWAT alpha Hale Delaney—he’s seen almost everything since he became a werewolf. But when he goes head-to-head with Dallas’s newest supernatural villain and is saved by the woman he loved and lost a decade ago, his world is turned upside down. Karissa Bonifay has always been fierce and capable, but now she’s a sword-wielding warrior in her own right.

The more time Hale and Karissa spend together hunting the dangerous supernaturals terrorizing the city, the closer they come to the truth about what really came between them all those years ago...

My review:

WOW! Wild As a Wolf is a fast paced second chance romance with bite. Hale and Karissa have survived dysfunctional families, turning super natural and 10 years apart but they have never stopped loving one another. Now once again they are in the same place, have resolved unanswered questions about their separation all they have to do is survive the big bad that is determined to kill them. This book kept me flipping pages and praying for them. I LOVED IT!

Wrench (Rolling Thunder MC Birmingham Book 6) by Candace Blevins

Blurb:

A motorcycle club kinky daddy paranormal romance…

Wrench
recently moved to the Birmingham RTMC chapter from Mobile after his sister went through a nasty breakup and needed him. He’s good friends with Khan, who has more house than he needs, and who welcomed both Wrench and his sister to live with him.

The nearest neighbor is two hundred yards away, but with the help of his werewolf hearing, Wrench hears a ruckus, goes to investigate, and finds an all-girls party happening with an unwelcome male guest. He runs the asshole off, and his neighbor invites him to hang out for the rest of the party.

Tori, short for Victoria, long ago stopped using her trust fund, and eschewed society and all forms of materialism. She lived without electricity for so long after the battle, now that it’s finally restored, she still doesn’t have it. Her small house is paid for, and she makes enough money finishing sheetrock a few weeks a year to pay for the food she can’t grow or kill. No attachments, no outside responsibilities, and that’s the way she likes it.

Until the biker from next door comes into her life and throws everything upside down. How does he know she’s always wanted a daddy, but is too scared to let one all the way into her life? And how does he manage to do just that before she even realizes he has?

My review:

This is not your fluffy, sweet occasional otk spanking DD/lg age play romance.

Once again Candace Blevins takes a trope and sets it on its ear.

Wrench is not your typical DD. Besides being a bitten werewolf he has a bit of a sadist in him that I wasn’t prepared for. It hit me harder than the brutality of Khan and Tempe. I loved Tori she is learning who she is and who she wants to be. Watching her on her journey made this book worth the read.

Witches Get Stuff Done (Starfall Point #1) by Molly Harper

Blurb:

Juggling newfound witchy powers, a house full of ghosts, and verbal battles with the handsome local librarian is almost too much for a new witch to manage. A new witch with a coven, however, can get so much more done...

From the moment Riley Everett set foot in Starfall Point, magic bubbled inside of her. But with only her late aunt's journals and a cantankerous live-in ghost butler to instruct her on all things witchy—including her newly inherited Victorian haunted house—Riley seeks out a coven for sisterhood and support. The last person she expects to be drawn to is the town's frustrating, yet ridiculously attractive head librarian.

Edison Held knows almost everything there is to know about Starfall Point, but Shaddow House was always off-limits, thanks to its elusive owner. If he can convince the new owner, Riley, to let him take a peek inside, there's so much he could learn. But as he gets closer to Riley, he's fascinated by her dazzling wit and fiery spirit. Edison will do whatever he can to help Riley keep her family legacy alive, especially if it means spending more time with the captivating new witch in town.

My review:

Witches Get Stuff Done is a delightful first in what is sure to be hilarious set of tales from Starfall Point. From inauspicious beginnings to barely holding her own Riley is sure to make you laugh and gigglesnort. She takes whatever life hands her and makes it work for her. I really got a kick out of this tale and look forward to the next adventure.
