Breaking Badger (Honey Badger Chronicles #4) by Shelly Laurenston

Blurb:

It’s instinct that drives Finn Malone to rescue a bunch of hard battling honey badgers. The Siberian tiger shifter just can’t bear to see his fellow shifters harmed. But no way can Finn have a houseful of honey badgers when he also has two brothers with no patience. Things just go from bad to worse when the badgers rudely ejected from his home turn out to be the only ones who can help him solve a family tragedy. He’s just not sure he can even get back into the badgers’ good graces. Since badgers lack graces of any kind . . .

Mads knows her teammates aren’t about to forgive the cats that were so rude to them, but moody Finn isn’t so bad. And he’s cute! The badger part of her understands Finn’s burning need to avenge his father’s death—after all, vengeance is her favorite pastime. So Mads sets about helping Finn settle his family’s score, which has its perks, since she gets to avoid her own family drama. Besides, fighting side by side with Finn is her kind of fun—especially when she can get in a hot and heavy snuggle with her very own growling, eye-rolling, and utterly irresistible kitty-cat . . .

My review:

In Breaking Badger we get to become better acquainted with Max’s girl gang specifically Mads. This is a manic ride involving her teammates, Max’s sisters and the Black Malones. This fast-paced thrill ride takes us all over the world and has a body count reminiscent of a Deadpool movie. I laughed my tail off throughout.

Cruising on Ice (Palmer City Voltage #1) by Kerry Evelyn

Blurb:

The Palmer City Voltage series is a spinoff of Love on the Ice

It’s true that hockey players break hearts.

Sometimes, it’s their own.

Taylor Ranford’s three immediate goals did not include five days of pure torture. There was nothing in her plans about finding herself in the same cabin on a cruise with her longtime crush! The last thing she wants is for the only guy she’s ever had feelings for to treat her like she was his little sister when she wanted so much more from him.

Kingston Brewer’s lateral move to the Palmer City Voltage was a blow to his career—and his ego. With no immediate plans for the next season, he jumps at the opportunity to go on a last-minute cruise with the bouncy-ponytailed cheerleading coach who has always held a soft spot in his heart. After all, Taylor had been there when he needed her and he’d always be there for her. But it doesn’t take long for him to realize his feelings for Taylor go beyond friendship and professional admiration.

When the call he’s been waiting for from his agent comes through, Kingston realizes his shot with Taylor may be now or never. He has dreams, but so does Taylor. Her dream helped him when he was at one of the lowest points in his life and his career. Now, he has to make one of the most difficult choices in his personal and professional life. Does he have the right to ask her to compromise her dreams for his, or will the curse of being a hockey player come true and he is destined to break both of their hearts?

My review:

This is a sweet friends to lover sports romance. These two characters are so perfect for each other you just want to scream at them to get their heads out of their tushies and talk to each other. When they finally get together it is almost a relief. I spent the whole book cheering them on and enjoyed every moment.

Ethan (The K9 Files #1) by Dale Mayer

Blurb:

When one door closes… second chances open another…

Ethan was lost after a major accident abruptly shifted him from a military life to a civilian one, from working with dogs to odd jobs … In that time, he’d spent months healing from his physical injuries. When he connects with Badger and the rest of his Titanium Corp. group of former SEALs, Badger offers Ethan an opportunity he can’t refuse. A chance to do the work he used to do … with a twist.

Cinnamon works from home as a project manager plus is heavily involved in global dog rescues—dogs of all kinds. When Ethan walks into the next door’s vet’s office with an injured shepherd in his arms, she sees another lost soul—just like the canine ones she helps.

Ethan knows he’s about to take a dangerous step, but he’s on the job, and no one—on the job or not—hurts animals while he’s around. This poor shepherd has taken enough abuse, and Ethan fears she is only the tip of a nightmare he’s determined to uncover. But he knows she’s going to lead him in the right direction.

He has his sights set on saving one dog in particular, Sentry: K9 File 01.

My review:

Ethan is the first in a spin-off series featuring a military vet finding his way after being medically discharged and finding his way to heal through the act of helping abused dogs heal and of course finding a woman to break down the wall around his heart. I enjoyed the interaction between Ethan and Cinn.

This is a story to warm your heart and give you hope.

Spell On Fire (Grimoires of a Middle-aged Witch Book 2) by Renee George

Blurb:

Being a forty-something, newly divorced, single mom comes with its challenges. Finding out I’m a witch is just another one of them. As a new practitioner of tru-craft, I’ve been told that every witch is called to a single element, and they are sent down one of two paths, the Fade or the Bright. Right?

Of course, every rule has the exception, and in this case, it’s me.

My grimoire has revealed a new element I have to learn, and I am walking the ditch between the two paths. I’m going to need the help of a grouchy gnome, a cuddly imp, a fiery ifrit, and a hottie druid to keep me from burning down my life and everything around it.

My new reality is nature’s cruel midlife trick. Surviving Earth magic without blowing up my entire world has been hard enough, if I don’t master Fire, I’ll go down in flames.

My review:

Iris has finally gotten a handle on her Earth magic even if it did take almost dying now the grimoire says she has Fire magic. This has other parties interested for different reasons. It isn’t common for a witch to have more than one type of magic and there are those who are very interested in Iris’s new gift which they want for their own.

This fast-paced adventure introduces us to some new characters and we learn new things about those we met in Earth Spells are Easy (Grimoires of a Middle-aged Witch Book 1). This is a grab you by the shirt and make you read book once you start you won’t be able to put it down till the very end. I can’t wait for the next story.

Cat out of Hell, Volume III by Candace Blevins

Blurb:

Can a centuries-old child vampire be the voice of reason?

Becca doesn’t do anything halfway, and that includes screwing up. She’s made a horrible mess of things, and she has no idea how to fix it.

This is the third and final book in the Cat out of Hell trilogy. It takes three full-length novels to tell Becca and Kendric's story.

My review:

WOW! This book took turns I wasn’t expecting and totally blew my mind! Becca has finally grown up and come into her own and as with everything else in her life she has forged her own path. Far from the sociopathic sadist we first met Becca may still be a sadist but her sociopathy has been tempered by her love for Kendrick and the people who’ve believed in her all along. Becca’s path has changed those around her as well and I think we all come through this a little better for it. Fantastic finale.

Defiance and Dedication (Untouchable #9) by Heather Long

Blurb:

Autumn in New York promises a turn in the seasons as we kick off the next stage of our lives. Colorful leaves falling, dropping temperatures, and the first days of classes loom even as the lingering summer heat and humidity make the city stifling.

Summer was a time to get away, to just be us, and what a magical time it was, but we can only run away from our lives for so long. We have family, careers, friends—new and old—as well as commitments waiting for us. With a new place to call our own in a new city I’m already half-in-love with, we’re not afraid of the challenges ahead.

Of course, not everyone is rooting for us, not everyone wants us to succeed, and some choices may come back to haunt us. But don’t come for those I love and expect me to do nothing. They might want to surround me in a layer of protection, but they’re mine and I’m more than willing to fight to keep them.

Feel free to test me, I’ve never failed one yet.

My review:

This book thankfully picks up right where the last left off. This is book nine of a now twelve book series. This is an emotional rollercoaster ride that ends with a bang. I can’t recommend this story enough. Frankie and her guys will keep you flipping pages and wanting more.

Rogue Wolf (SWAT Book 12) by Paige Tyler

Blurb:

There's been a wicked attraction between SWAT werewolf Trey Duncan and medical examiner Samantha Mills since the two met, but Trey's never worked up the nerve to ask her out. So when Samantha says she wants to cash in the favor Trey owes her for a date, it seems like the perfect time to confess his true feelings. But the trouble with wolves is that they're never far from danger, and this time Trey is going up against a monster the likes of which his Dallas SWAT team has never seen... This time it's going to take everything Trey and Samantha have to crack the case and protect each other.

My review:

Talk about your slow burn Trey and Samantha have been dancing around each other for two years. Finally they get together in this action packed thrill ride. This is a combination of romantic suspense, scifi and crime thriller and I loved it! Trey may be a werewolf but he is as clueless as any guy when it comes down to the woman who is meant just for him. I read this in on sitting and enjoyed every page.

Wanna Buy a Howl (Paranormal Dating Agency #32) by Milly Taiden

Blurb:

Smokin' new PDA in the Haize world

Completely Standalone

Archeologist Skylar Grace needs an earth-shattering discovery to make her career or remain an unknown amongst her peers. Maybe the word “earth” is too confining. Skylar believes she scams Gerri Wilder into a trip to another planet, thinking she’ll ditch the man she’s supposed to meet. Not like Gerri can actually match her with the perfect man for her. Piece of cake, right? No, it’s really not.

Tamor, Chief of the Seven Tribes, needs to figure out how to save his people from a slow death. He asks Gerri Wilder for help and she sends a beautiful and smart Skylar to his planet. Skylar’s very sassy and her skin’s so soft he can’t stop touching her. But then she tells him she’s there to dig for old things, leaving him completely disillusioned.

When Skylar finds ancient cave drawings, she knows she’s looking at something important, but how is she supposed to decode an alien culture she knows nothing about? If she doesn’t, not only will the people who’ve accepted her as she is die, so will the one man she’s come to love.

My review:

This book has it all! At times I laughed, feared for the characters, sweated from the steam and overall loved Skylar and Tamor. Skylar is my kinda gal; smart, ambitious and honest with herself. Tamor may be Chief of the Seven Tribes but when it comes to earth women he’s as clueless as any guy. Sink into this wonderful escape and enjoy.

Luna's Christmas Surprise by Shelly Small

Blurb:

The holidays are approaching fast and Luna is busier than ever.
Terri has decorated the bar and regulars have left presents
Under the tree.

Hoping things will be quiet this season, unfortunately, that’s not how this
Christmas seems to be going.

One night the bar was trashed and all the presents were gone.
Luna’s clients are turning up dead with the stolen presents
Left beside them.

Luna must work fast to figure out who the killer is before the
Christmas Surprise is ruined.

My review:

Have you read Luna or Redrum by this author? I recommend doing so before reading this so you’ll be more familiar with the characters and their motivations. I loved this story. It is a sweet community gathering around their own type of tale. Christmas in July feel good story with a few moments of fright and angst thrown in for good measure.

An Animated Midlife (Witching After Forty #4) by Lia Davis

Blurb:

Ava Harper's resume keeps getting updated. It started with witch, then necromancer, author, bookstore clerk, vampire wrangler, and most recent, medium. Yes, you heard that right, she can talk to ghosts.New powers bring more responsibilities and things to add to the list of magic she needs to learn. Especially when Ava finds out her mother isn't in a happy place. What else can she do but try to rescue her mother from the in-between place she's been suffering all these years? That doesn't mean it'll be easy. She's going to need the help of all of her team, from her ghoul Alfred to her mischievous cat, Mr. Snoozerton—and his new girlfriend. And Olivia, her best friend, of course. She might even have to call her son home from college for this level of magic. But Ava's life wouldn't be Ava's life if things didn't go a bit awry. Luci tries to help, but just infuriates all of them, as usual. Larry (the skeleton) is still hanging around, and he's lost a finger bone, have you seen it?It might be a lot of hullabaloo, but Ava is determined to figure it out and bring her mother home. And Drew, the town sheriff and Ava’s boyfriend is at her side every step of the way and almost every waking hour and sometimes sleeping hour. Could the sheriff be plotting something of his own and try to tame the necromancer/witch hybrid?

My review:

This book takes up right where A Haunting Midlife left off. Ava is trying to catch up and learn what she can do with her powers but she hasn’t had a moment without crisis long enough to sleep let alone study. This book continues the frenetic pace and reveals new secrets and adds to Ava’s menagerie. This is fast paced insanity and I am thrilled by the ride.

Blurb:

NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan begins a new witchy paranormal series where a magical town keeps its secrets, but those in it must find a way to keep themselves safe.

The moment Sage Reed makes her way to Ravenwood, she knows the small town lives up to its mystical lore—even if she doesn’t believe that she’s a witch. After losing her husband, she’s ready for change, and her aunt’s bookstore affords the perfect opportunity.

A new enemy is on the horizon, one who hides in the shadows, whose history is steeped in lies. And if Sage and Rome aren’t careful, Sage’s new powers won’t be the only thing that spirals into flame.

My review:

Dawn Unearthed is the story of a young widow becoming what she should have been but for a curse placed on her family line and the town of Ravenwood. Evil has come to Ravenwood and new resident and powerful untrained witch Sage Reed needs to come up to snuff quickly or perish alongside her newfound family and friends. This is a story of love and hope and new beginnings and the powerful start to a new series and I look forward to the next installment.

Cat out of Hell, Volume II by Candace Blevins

Blurb:

Becca’s back in Hell. Her worst nightmare. She’s almost certain His Majesty and Kendric will get her out, but how long will it take?

Before long, she understands that Lord Xaephan never intended to lose her for good. He wanted the Prince of Darkness to train her more harshly, to finally well-and-truly break her, so Xaephan could rescue her and be her hero — and have a blank slate to rebuild her as he wished.

The Lord of Lust seems quite determined to keep her, and she’s no longer certain of rescue. He's also quite angry with her when he realizes she’s fallen in love with the vampire, and she has no intention of ever willingly submitting to Xaephan again.

My review:

This book picks up right where the last book left off and Becca’s in for a world of hurt more than the physical the emotional damage done to her in this book was hard to deal with. I have to trust the author to give us relief in the next book.

The Haunted Homecoming (Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries #10) by Angie Fox

Blurb:

Apple cider, bonfires, football, and—ghosts.

It’s homecoming weekend in Sugarland, Tennessee and ghost hunter Verity Long is tickled to see so many souls—living and dead—back in town to celebrate. But not all reunions are happy ones, and when Verity stumbles upon a dead body by the football field, it appears someone has already evened the score.

My review:

The Haunted Homecoming hits on three very important facets of southern life. Football, homecoming and a woman’s relationship with her momma. Verity has to deal with all that Frankies love life  and  a cold case of murder in this witty mystery. When they discover Verity’s mommas best friend the homecoming queen dead and shoved into a time capsule from the 1980’s things get interesting very fast. This may be a murder mystery but there are some laugh out loud moments that will keep you entertained while finding out who dunnit. A fantastic addition to the series.

Fierce Cowboy Wolf (Seven Range Shifters #4) by Kait Ballenger

Blurb:

Cowboys by day, wolf shifters by night: These bad boys are ready to heat things up in a sexy paranormal wolf shifter romance from author Kait Ballenger.

She’s all he wanted, but was unable to claim…until now.

Sierra Cavanaugh has worked her whole life to become the first female elite warrior in Grey Wolf history. With her nomination finally put forward, all she needs is the pack council’s approval. But those stuffy old wolves refuse to elect her unless she finds herself a mate.

Packmaster Maverick Grey was reconciled to spending the rest of his life alone. Now, upon entering into treaty renegotiations with the other Seven Range clans, he needs the elite warrior vacancy filled—and fast. If Sierra needs a mate, this is his chance to claim her. But Sierra has an agenda of her own for their union, and they’ll need to work together against the assassin intent on barring the deal. For these two rivals, the only thing more dangerous than fighting the enemy at their backs is battling the war of seduction building between them...

My review:

Duty and protecting the pack are all that Packmaster Maverick Grey lives for. Sierra has loved Mav all her life but when he married another she puts her energy into becoming a warrior of the first order. Now Maverick is a widower and Sierra has been put in to become an elite warrior. When the elders deny her advancement because she is unmated they put together a “fake marriage” plan. But as any good story goes if you want to make God laugh make plans. I at times wanted to box both their ears for idiocy above and beyond but ultimately loved this tale.

Blurb:

Hell hath no fury? Try it with hot flashes

She finds herself herself in midtown Manhattan, reluctantly employed by a CEO who loves pencil skirts and stilettos, and happens to be the Angel of Death.

My review:

Forty is bringing some major changes to Louisa Jericho. She quits her job finds a new avocation and a hot guy to teach her the ropes. She gets to question her life choices make new friends and enemies and finds new strength in kindness. I loved watching her start her new journey and look forward to seeing where it takes her next.

Her Dragon Protector (Awaken the Dragon #3) by Milly Taiden

Blurb:

Book 3 in the Awaken the Dragon series

Eating a sheep isn't usually a big deal for dragon-shifter Tarn. But waking up in a new time and getting shot at for his little snack comes as a surprise. Although he escapes, he finds himself at the mercy of the most beautiful woman he's ever seen. His mate. He wants to heal quickly to show her all the dirty things he wants to do to her. To prove he loves her, of course.

Eva’s tired of living in a big mansion with loneliness as her companion. Tarn brings happiness and romance into her life. Okay, so he's a little outdated when it comes to flirting, but that's what makes him charming. Unfortunately, Tarn learns all the latest slang and it's no time before he makes it clear he wants to tap her backside. She should be embarrassed, but the sizzling looks he gives her make it really hard to not be excited instead.

Tarn and Eva need to figure out why he has woken up and why her father is acting so strangely. Dragons are being destroyed with their own magic. It must be stopped. They track down the poachers that want him dead. It's a battle for survival while Tarn and Eva figure out if their romance can survive the dragon hunters.

My review:

Just awakened dragon-shifter Tarn has a lot to learn about this modern world. Eva is an artist with a big imagination. When Tarn tangles with a grumpy alien hunter with an automatic rifle its Eva who nurses him back to health and teaches him about this new world he’s awakened in.

These two characters have a lot to go through before admitting their attraction might be something more. I loved Eva and her big heart. This book is a wonderful escape.

Crimson Moon Hideaway: A Ghostly Affair by Robbie Cox

Blurb:

He watched his wife walk around Crimson Moon Hideaway trying to find him a new bride. Weird to some, perhaps, but it was all right. You see, his wife is dead.

Now a widower, Geoff Johns booked a weekend at Crimson Moon Hideaway to escape all the sad faces cast his way, as well as the uncomfortable conversations asking how he was holding up. His wife was dead. How did they think he was holding up? Of course, that doesn’t stop her from popping up in the hopes of finding him his next bride. And on top of that, it’s the full moon, which meant tonight, his werewolf would try to end his vegetarian diet.

Corine Faraday left her therapist’s office wishing she had listened to her gut and not the opinions of her colleagues. Now, a little boy was dead, and she felt like a failure. She was through helping people, even herself. And then she notices a strange man talking to himself by the pool.

Can two souls who have lost so much find happiness at Crimson Moon? Perhaps a better question is can Erika Johns let go long enough for the others to find each other? One-Click A Ghostly Affair and find out!

My review:

This book deals with a lot of sensitive subjects but does it in a sweet and respectful way.  Geoff inspires caring from two wonderful women despite the fact that there is a part of himself he hates. He is a werewolf not a shifter. He has to shift with the full moon and doesn’t turn into a wolf he turns into a monster. He doesn’t remember what he does in that form and fears hurting someone.

This story had me aching for Geoff, Erika and Corine as they each deal with the current reality and their own issues. This story will make even the hardest heart melt.

Blurb:

Since receiving her special powers as a sensator, Wren Chase is trying to get used to her dual life. Being the lead writer for Posh Vogue Magazine is stressful enough, but never knowing when a new sensator “case” will show up only adds to the stress.

The time has come for another big case and a brand new ghost helper has arrived. This one is like, totally awesome. Unfortunately, she has another not-so-awesome magical garment attached to her. Wren’s sense of style will suffer once again. But for the good of her cause, she’ll do it.
