Throw in the Growl (Paranormal Dating Agency #31) by Milly Taiden

Blurb:

***Standalone Romance***
Success was within Anna Sullivan’s grasp. But one bad joke and one dead world leader later, and she’s playing shady Vegas bars with junkies in her closet sized dressing room. She needs a different galaxy to restart her career. Gerri Wilder promises to find her love on a new planet. Love? Not interested, but a new audience? That sounds promising.

King Rath is used to people doing what he says. So when he meets sarcasm queen Anna, he’s more than a little clueless on how to handle her. She’s his mate and he needs to get her to fall for him. He doesn't understand half of what she says, but she’s a spitfire and those curves and her smile are making him question everything he thinks he knows about women. He wants her and will do anything to keep her.

There are forces that don’t want the king and his new mate together. Anna and Rath have to fight unexpected enemies while figuring out if they have a future together. Rath may not understand her humor, but he knows she wants him and he can't stand the thought of losing her. Can Rath protect her and get her to realize a relationship between won’t mean the end of her goals?

My review:

Throw in the Growl is an adorably funny and sexy addition to the PDA world. Rath is sweet and grumpy and delightfully clueless to pop culture and earth jargon. Anna as a standup comedian is practically an expert. Watching these two try to communicate is such fun. But love will have it’s way and doesn’t necessarily require speaking to get the message across. I love the new world that Gerri and Rath have introduced us to.

Her Dragon Link (Awaken the Dragon #2) by Milly Taiden & Ava Hunter

Blurb:

Book 2 in the Awaken the Dragon series

Dragon-shifter Aelon is known as the intellectual one of his clan. He isn’t looking for a mate. He’s got a lot going on. Like finding the now exposed temple and using its power to awaken all the dragons. They’re being hunted. He flies straight into a woman whose scent buries into his heart. Once she’s in his arms, he knows she’s the one for him.

Fern is a ski instructor that loves her job. But she didn’t expect to get caught up in a blizzard. She’s saved by a dragon. When she touches him for the first time, he turns into a gorgeous man. A shifter. Her heart immediately calls out for him and she struggles to control her need to throw herself at him. And those sizzling looks he gives her are not helping. Not at all.

When he explains his need for her help, she agrees to go with him. She knows he’s on a mission and hates the idea of people hurting the beautiful dragons. Aelon is sweet and kind. The perfect gentleman she wants to get naked. But is that enough to grow a relationship with him?

My review:

Opposites attract in this sexy tale of the bookish dragon and the female athlete. This story is part of a series but can be read stand alone.  Aelon is a dragon shifter awakened by his brother when his brother had been attacked by dragon hunters (Her Dragon Savior - Awaken the Dragon #1). The bookish dragon believes they will need the assistance of their brethren and is off to find the dragon temple to awaken them. His adventures along the way have him finding his mate and a reason to go on. This is an exciting and sexy adventure that will leave you anxiously awaiting the next book.

Lethal Echo (The Arsenal Book 8) Cara Carnes

Blurb:

She’s spent her life on the periphery of humanity.

Bree Geissenger lives by one mantra: You’re only as good as your latest creation. Tucked away in laboratories, always wanted for her brains, she’s been safe. Unseen. But the new life she has at The Arsenal has upended her carefully constructed world. Unable to cope with the threats against her friends, she fractured. Determined not to be the weakest link, she fled the safety of The Arsenal compound to heal. Regroup. Hunt.

Those she loves will no longer be prey. She’ll ferret out everyone who’s a threat to those she loves, no matter the cost. There’s no sacrifice too great in war. A smart soldier doesn’t work alone, though, which means she must work with the operative she wants more than anything.

He ran from a past he’s swore to never delve into.

Ramon Zapata escaped the underground, clandestine world his parents deemed his birthright. Military life honed him into the weapon he swore to never become and gave him the only true family he’s ever known. Life at The Arsenal was everything he’d wanted, including the brilliant, beautiful scientist who blew his world wide open. To save his new family and the woman he loves, he must reconcile his past and work with the black ops organization who spent years hunting him like an animal.

Failure isn’t an option. Never quit. Never surrender.

*Author’s Note: While this book can be read as a standalone, there are numerous plot threads that continue from previous books. Reading in order will provide a better reading experience.*

My Review:

Lethal Echo gives us a peek into the incredible brain of the Arsenals mad genius of weapons Bree. Bree is a manic perfectionist always afraid letting everybody down. When Ram gently but persistently pushes his way into her world she is ready to give him a chance. I loved watching Bree grow and watching her relationship with Ram fulfill its possibilities. This story ties up a lot of loose threads but offers some exciting new questions. This book is a thrilling emotional ride.

Where There's A Witch, There's A Way (Witchless in Seattle Mysteries, #13) by Dakota Cassidy

Where There's A Witch, There's A Way (Witchless in Seattle Mysteries, #13) by Dakota Cassidy

Blurb:

Goin' to the chapel and we're gonna get married!

No, silly. Not us. Team #Stewin is still enjoying being engaged and a nice long winter hiatus from murder and ghost chasing.

Until we open up Madam Zoltar's for the beginning of tourist season and the first customers are a bridal party from the seventh level of you-know-where!

When the soon-to-be ex-husband of the matron of honor is found dead at the motel where the bridal party is staying and she's accused of his murder--a murder we're convinced she didn't commit--our quiet comes to a screeching halt.

Add in the matron of honors dead twin, who appears to be desperately trying to get some kind of message to us, Belfry who's behaving strangely, and more poofy pink dresses than you can count, and you've got yourself a mystery.

A mystery we're determined to solve! The gang's all here. Join us for another romp in Witchless in Seattle, won't you?

My review:

Stevie and Win get involved in another murder investigation. The suspects are plenty as are the motives. And Bel gets a girlfriend! I really enjoyed this and actually guessed the killer correctly. This is a terrific addition to the series.

Black Hollow: Finding Her Beauty (The Drakki Chronicles #3) by Gracen Miller

Blurb:

What's a crazy chicken lady to do when the chief won't help her catch the thief stealing her beloved pets? A bachelor charity auction is the perfect answer. Amiyah is looking for a strong man to fortify her chicken coop. Keg Drakki is the perfect choice. He's not just strong, but he comes highly recommended, as well. It's too bad their initial meeting doesn't go as she'd hoped.

Keg Drakki is a playboy without a care in the world. He's content to fill his days with debauchery and liquor, throwing bonfire parties in the woods. Then Amiyah wins a night of his life at the charity auction. He's intrigued by her reclusive nature and confused why the residents are leery of her. Yeah, it's odd she walks around with a rooster on her shoulder, but a lot of residents have abnormal familiars.

When an enemy emerges from Amiyah's past, all of Black Hollow is at risk. Will the townspeople come together to battle her demons and gain a powerful ally in the process? Or will this be the end of the most paranormal town in America?

My review:

Welcome to Black Hollow where paranormals can live out and live in peace.  Someone is interrupting the peace by stealing Amiyahs chickens and Sebastian (the sheriff) isn’t doing a thing to help her. When Amiyah wins man-whore dragon shifter Keg Drakki in the bachelor auction he’s amazed at what she wants from him.  Amiyah is a beautifully complicated soul. Keg is deliciously uncomplicated and Sebastian is totally dropping the ball which isn’t like him. Just goes to prove nobody is perfect but I think Keg and Amiyah are perfect for each other. This was a deep and exciting tale.

Inked Obsession (Montgomery Ink: Fort Collins #2) by Carrie Ann Ryan

Blurb:

The Montgomery Ink saga from NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan continues with a second chance romance sure to tug at your heartstrings.

When men in uniform showed up on Eliza Wilder-Strong’s doorstep, she knew her life would be irrevocably altered. She not only lost her husband, but the future she’d carefully planned. A year later, she’s looking to start over—beginning with a solo healing vacation. Only she never expects to see a familiar, tempting face along the way.

Beckett Montgomery refuses to want his little sister’s best friend—especially because she’s a widow. Yet there’s no stopping the connection between them. As the temptation to give in intensifies between them, so do the reasons they shouldn’t stay together.

Painful ghosts from both of their pasts stand in their way and sometimes it’s the living that can haunt you when you’re not looking.

My review:

My heart broke over and over for Eliza. She has been treated harshly by life. She deserves something good just for her. Beckett Montgomery fills the bill. These two help each other heal and come into a future filled with hope. This book requires a bottle of wine and a box of tissues. Don’t read in public unless you are comfortable ugly crying in front of strangers.

Fighting for Jen (Special Force:Operation Alpha) by Cara Carnes

Blurb:

She fights for those who can’t fight back…

Jennifer Davenport vowed to never back down from a fight. Raised in a violent home, she’d survived her share of nightmares and monsters lurking in the shadows. She’s made it her life mission to help all of Counterstrike’s clients start a new life. Her former Delta force brothers get them out, and she paves the way to a better future. Easy, right?

Yeah, no. She’s used to threats, but when they turn deadly, she finds herself turning to mysterious, sexy leader of the local MC. The Scythe MC’s President is everything she shouldn’t want yet can’t resist.

Banner “Razor” Nilon left military service wrongly branded as “dishonorably discharged.” Rather than walk away, he chose to fight within the shadows. The Scythe MC was formed for one purpose: redemption. The goal was simple: operate off the radar and prove he and his club brothers were all innocent.

But the club hit Counterstrike’s radar in a big way and the beautiful, brilliant attorney has shaken his entire world up. Walking away when she’s in trouble isn’t possible, especially when the little spitfire defends his club. Yeah, taking on her war to find whoever wants to kill her might not be the smartest plan, but he’ll do whatever it takes to keep her safe—even if it means playing nicely with her protective, billionaire do-gooder big brothers and all their former military operatives. They may not always play by the rules, but Razor’s never met a rule he wouldn’t break.

My review:

As with all of Ms. Carnes books this story will tug your heartstrings and make you feel all the things. You’ll love Jen who is strong, smart and independent. You’ll fall for Razor the leader of the Scythes MC, wrongly disgraced former military and hot as Hades. Sam the little boy who watched his father kill his mother will steal your heart away. This story will hit you in all the tender parts and leave you wanting more. Romantic suspense at its finest.

Furred Lines Peculiar Mysteries, Book 7 By: Renee George Narrated by: Autumn Brandt

Blurb:

Wereraccoon Nicole Taylor, a recent Quantico graduate, is eager to prove herself. She's been assigned to work with oh-so-yummy field agent and werebear Dominic Tartan to catch a therianthrope serial.

Dom doesn't know what to make of the sexy recruit he's been tasked to train. Half the time he wants to ditch her, the other half of the time, he wants to kiss her. Nicole struggles with the urge to sock him one or jump his bones.

Doomsday preppers, a dead body, and a crate full of stolen guns make the case even more Peculiar. Can Nicole and Dom find the killer in the chaos? Or will someone close to Nicole be the psycho's next target?

Peculiar Mysteries series from USA Today best-selling author Renee George are laugh-out-loud, grip the edge of your seat, and swoon as you fall in love tales of mystery, humor, and romance that take place in the small (fictional) Ozark shifter town of Peculiar, Missouri.

My review:

I listened to this while recovering from surgery. Maybe not the best idea if laughing hurts but it sure did take my mind off healing.

Want something a little different? Read this fun paranormal mystery and I guarantee a chuckle or two, a couple of sighs and a darned good mystery. Though this is part of a series each book can be read stand alone. I love that the author has original therianthrope pairings and love Dom (bear) and Nic (raccoon). I can’t wait to revisit Peculiar.

Grumpy Dragon Daddy: A Rejected Mates Paranormal Romance by Milly Taiden

Blurb:

Tyla Cutter is so close to becoming a hunter she can taste it. Her skills are unmatched. Nobody’s as good as she is. But to get her recognition, she needs to kill a dragon. On her own. Her life’s turned upside down when killing this particular dragon becomes impossible. Oh, she’s tried. But she’s strangely attracted to him. Kill him? No. Kiss him? Yes.

Ancient Dragon Andorax wants Tyla. Originally, he wanted her dead. Now he just wants her clothes off. She’s his fated mate and nothing will change that. Not the fact she wants to hunt him down and definitely not the fact she’s gorgeous in her hunting gear. Once he gets her pregnant with his child, all bets are off.

Tyla’s in deep trouble. She’s torn between family loyalty and the love of her life. It’s time to choose between war and peace. Time’s running out. Will it be the family she wants for herself or the one expecting her to become their prized hunter. Can Tyla and Andorax find their way to a happy ending? Or will their love doom not just themselves but both their clans to destruction?

My review:

Love from different sides of the tracks. Tyla’s a hunter Anders is a dragon. Can he convince her she’s his mate before she kills him? I loved the angst and drama in this tale. More Hatfields and McCoys than Romeo and Juliet but you get the drift.  Anther winner from the marvelous Milly Taiden.

My review:

Polar Curve is a sweet tale of second chances. The fated mate instinct tells you who your mate is but you have to communicate it to the other party. These two made me want to Gibbs smack them and say just tell them! I loved these characters and enjoyed the Nanouk brothers.

Icescrape (Royal Claws #3) by Milly Taiden

Blurb:

Bookish librarians are totally capable of finding missing people in the Alaskan wilderness. Said no one. Ever. So why is Grace Tumbler jetting off to do just that? She doesn’t know. All she has are books and a somewhat positive attitude that she can survive her first-ever trip away from home. That is, until her plane crashes…

Sawyer Agnor, snow fox alpha shifter and mayor of Winterland, has one wish. Meet his mate. He knows she will be just as adventurous as him. Together, they’ll hike active volcanoes and make love in the rainforest. At least, that’s what he thought until Grace literally fell out of the sky. Fate sent him the wrong mate at exactly the wrong time.

With Winterland in danger, Grace will have to decide if she’ll spend the rest of her life living through her books or if she’ll join in the fight. Sawyer soon realizes that having a bookish mate might have been a hell of a lot better for his sanity. Because of Grace’s new and sudden adventurous streak? He hates it as much as he loves it. These fated mates are in for a bumpy ride on their way to each other.

My review:

I loved the bookish librarian as the sassy heroine. Grace really finds herself and she is so much stronger than she thought. Snow fox shifter and co mayor of Winterland Sawyer is going to have his hands full with her. Be careful what you wish for.  This story is a total romp.

Capture the Crown (Gargoyle Queen #1) by Jennifer Estep

Blurb:

Bestselling author Jennifer Estep returns to her Crown of Shards world with an all-new trilogy and a bold new heroine who protects her kingdom from magic, murder, and mayhem by moonlighting as a spy.

Gemma Ripley has a reputation for being a pampered princess who is more interested in pretty gowns, sparkling jewelry, and other frivolous things than learning how to rule the kingdom of Andvari. But her carefully crafted persona is just an act to hide the fact that Gemma is a powerful mind magier—and a spy.

Gemma is undercover, trying to figure out who is stealing large amounts of tearstone from one of the Ripley royal mines when she encounters Prince Leonidas Morricone of Morta—her mortal enemy. Gemma tries to steer clear of the handsome prince, but when she finds herself behind enemy lines, she reluctantly joins forces with Leo. Also coming to Gemma’s aid is Grimley, her beloved gargoyle.

Despite the fact that Andvari and Morta are old, bitter enemies, a dangerous attraction sparks between Gemma and Leo. Further complicating matters is Leo’s murderous family, especially Queen Maeven Morricone, the mastermind behind the infamous Seven Spire massacre.

The closer Gemma gets to the stolen tearstone, the more deadly plots she uncovers. Everyone is trying to capture the crown, but only one queen can sit on the throne…

Guest review:

I'm a big fan of Jennifer Estep's Elemental Assassin series. So when my mom asked if I wanted to read and review Capture the Crown I jumped at the chance.

This book is not a stand alone, it may be the first in the Gargoyle Queen series but it ties in heavily to the Crown of Shards series. I read Kill the Queen, the first in the Crown of Shards series, so I knew the back story of Gemma.

The book is definitely Jennifer Estep's style. Strong heroine doing what she feels needs to be done. She tries not to let her heart lead her astray. Especially when the man after her heart tried to kill her when they were kids, and his mother still wants her dead. Can Gemma focus on saving her kingdom? Or will she and her heart be betrayed?

Rogue Alliance (Wolves of Chaos Valley) by Lia Davis

Blurb:

Local veterinarian Mari Frost is happy for the first time in her adult life. It’s been three years since she divorced her jerk of a husband and she moved to Chaos Valley. However, like all things, even happiness comes to an end.

Letters start to arrive at her home and the clinic. When the messages become less flirty and more demanding, she considers going to the Alpha of the Blackclaw Pack. But this isn’t pack business, and she doesn’t want to bother Lor Gentry with something the human authorities can handle.

When she notices a wolf stalking her, she second guesses her decision not to tell Lor, the Alpha of the pack. She doesn’t get to report the crime to Lor before the Chaos starts—something that hasn’t happened in nine years—and a rogue wolf kidnaps her.

Ward Hansen swears he isn’t behind the messages and that she is his fated mate. But that can’t be, because Lor has also claimed that she’s his. Mari isn’t ready to be in a relationship with one man. She definitely isn’t about to mate with two.

Mari’s real stalker waits in the shadows. Can she trust that her two wolves can keep her safe from a crazed rogue?

My review:

This is a tale of growth, forgiveness and love. Watching Mari learn to stand up for herself and allow herself to love again made my heart happy.
