The Nightshade Guild: Mated to a Mage by Cassidy K. O'Connor

Blurb:

An assassination in the Elven Court; an orphaned infant Princess; and twelve mages who have sworn to protect her.

The Elven court has tasked the Nightshade Guild with keeping Princess Ameria protected until the assassins are found and the Kingdom is stabilized. Isla Ryan has no experience with babies and is less than thrilled to take the first shift. When word gets out that the Elven Kingdom is vulnerable, everyone wants to get their hands on the orphan.

Killian Stewart arrived in Ireland desperate to heal from the PTSD he suffered after three tours of duty. He expected a quiet time on the Cliffs, instead he ends up on the run from creatures he didn’t know existed, with a woman who claims the Supernatural is real, and an infant that can make it rain.

Together, they’ll criss-cross Europe and try to stay one step ahead of the creatures hunting the Princess.

Buy the first book of the Nightshade Guild Series now! A new mage story will be released every month in 2021

My review:

Mated to a Mage is the first in a multi-author series that looks to be fantastic. In this first installment we meet Elven Princess Ameria who was horribly orphaned and is now being placed in the care of the Nightshade Guild a group of magical beings with special skillsets.

In this installment America is given into the care of the Mage Isla. Isla has vowed to protect and care for the Princess and will do it even if she can’t get the child to stop crying. Ameria has decided that the American next door would make a good woobie and will only stop crying for him. Thus setting up his introduction to the Supernatural. This is a really sweet, often funny, race against enemies that will fill your heart and make you smile.

Bring on the next installment

Werewolves Only (Crescent City Wolf Pack #1) by Carrie Pulkinen

Blurb:

I'm done with humans.

Macey may be a top-notch detective, but she doesn't realize how fragile she is. How dangerous my world can be…

Demons lurk in the shadows, and I don't have time to babysit a human. But my wolf would beg to differ.

Instinct tells me to protect her above all else, but what can I do? She isn't mine to protect no matter what my wolf wants…

Fated mates. Forbidden love. A steamy shifter paranormal romance you can sink your teeth into.

My review:

Werewolves Only is an enjoyable story of finding love where you least expect it, familial responsibilities, and the nature of love. I got a kick out Macey learning about werewolves and solving the mystery of her past. I got a kick out of this book and went immediately out to buy the rest of the series to date.

The Experiment (X-Clan #1.5) by Lexi C. Foss

Blurb:

Daciana
I'm an offering. A test. A pawn in an agreement I know little about.

Fly to Andorra Sector.
Allow them to experiment.
Mate an X-Clan Wolf Alpha.
Hope for the best.

Those are my orders. My fate. My current existence. There's nowhere to run, and the moon is a clock I can't ignore. One of these Alphas will claim me, assuming our genetics are a match. And if not, well, that's a fate worse than death.

Tick tock.
Make a choice.
Your future depends on it.

Elias
The pretty little blonde wolf has seen too much pain for her young years.

It makes me want to fix her.
To adore her.
To show her there can be good in this world.
But our future is wrapped up in an experiment.

Either she's compatible or she's not. The moon will determine our fate, or perhaps my inner wolf will decide it for us. Because with each passing moment, it becomes harder not to claim the female who I know in my heart is very much mine.

Run, run, little one.
And don't look back.
For if I catch you,
I just may bite.

Note: This is a standalone novella featuring characters from Andorra Sector, Book One of the X-Clan Series. It has Omegaverse elements and features a happily-ever-after ending.

My review:

I read this in audio form. This sexy and exciting story almost lost me because Daciana was so very broken. Then Elias entered and was so warm and supportive that I gave it a chance and was thrilled I did. Watching Daciana come into her own was thrilling and watching big bad Elias fall for the little omega was totally heartwarming. Listening to the back and forth between characters helped make it more real. Totally enjoyed.

Wanted: Wild Thing (Midnight Liaisons #4) by Jessica Sims

Blurb:

The final book in a romance series set in a “fun, sexy world” (USA TODAY), where paranormals seek love through a dating service called Midnight Liaisons.

Ryder is hiding a dark secret from her coworkers at Midnight Liaisons. Every time she’s sexually attracted to a man, her dragon side breaks through. Not exactly man-bait! But she needs to lose her virginity before her twenty-fifth birthday, or she’ll become a dragon forever.

Her solution? Big, hunky Hugh, the appointed guardian of her chastity. He’s clearly hot for her, but he has powerful reasons to resist Ryder. Can temptation—and love—possibly find a way?

My review:

Though this is the 4th and final novel (there a a couple of novella’s too) in this series they can each be read stand alone.

In Wanted: Wild Thing we finally get the answer to what kind of shifter Ryder is. Ryder is the flirty, sweet, quirky supposed human who works for Midnight Liaisons a dating service for the local paranormal population. She helps others find their mates but she has yet to find hers. She has a problem in that whenever she touches a guy she is sexually attracted to her shifter side comes to the fore. She has no love for her shifter side. She thinks it is ugly and will frighten off anyone who might come to love her. When she meets Hugh she has reason not to like him but he may be fierce enough to handle her shifter side but at what cost.

I really got a kick out of this series and am saddened that it is ending. This is a check your brain at the door and enjoy the escape type series. This book was a bit more serious than the others but in the end just as enjoyable.

Captured in Ink (Montgomery Ink: Boulder #4.5) by Carrie Ann Ryan

Blurb:

New York Times bestselling author Carrie Ann Ryan returns to the Montgomery Ink world with three souls bruised yet forever connected in this sexy and intoxicating ménage romance.

Julia and Ronin know their relationship is solid. They’ve been through hell and back, but their love has stayed true through it all. When Ronin’s ex, Kincaid, comes back to town, however, the two realize what they might be missing.

Kincaid didn’t mean to leave Ronin behind all those years ago. When tragedy struck not once, but twice, bringing with it the heat of horror, he couldn’t face the past he’d left behind. Now, he’s back and doesn’t know how he fits in with the seemingly perfect couple—especially not when their families will apparently stop at nothing to keep them apart.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.*

My review:

Making a relationship work is hard. It takes care and communication.  Adding another person makes it that much harder but if its right it will be worth it.

Ronin has been in a poly relationship before. When it crashed he survived and found love with Julia. They’ve been happy together for years but when his former lover, Kincaid, comes back to town a broken and beaten man, Ronin and Julia need to see if Kincaid can be a part of their lives and in what role.

This is a really sweet and heartwarming tale of unconventional love that only goes to prove that love is not a one size fits all prospect.  This is a well written, sensitively approached tale of love and forgiveness.

Rescuing Rita (SANCTUM #6) by Pepper North

Blurb:

When she walks in the wrong door at the worst time, will anyone be there to help her?

Bartender Rita Alma discovers the new owner of the bar with a vast display of drugs.  When he forces his full-figured employee out the backdoor, Rita takes the first opportunity to get away while no one else can get hurt.

The last thing handsome, veterinarian Bartholomew Jennings expected to find hiding inside Gumdrop’s horse trailer was a beautiful stowaway.  When she strikes her head getting into his truck, Bart will do anything to help the captivating mystery woman.  Especially, when his Little radar is on high alert.

My review:

Let me preface this with admitting I haven’t read the other books in this series but it stands on its own just fine. Age play isn’t my thing but I’m always open to walking in someone else’s world just to see what the noise is all about. Rescuing Rita is a sweet insta love story of a curvy bartender who ends up on trouble being rescued by a hunky vet who want to be her Daddy. The romantic suspense elements were terrific. Still not into age play but I enjoyed the story.

Special Effects (Gemma-Hydrox #7) by L.J. Vickery

Blurb:

Kels Xafer, drummer for the intergalactic powerhouse metal band, Wortthest, is in huge peril. He’s blissfully unaware there’s a threat until several attempts on his life make it clear someone doesn’t want him around. With the help of the FPU he hopes to discover who wishes him dead. But will his huge attraction to the drangel assigned to his case put both their lives in danger?

Sallsy is frustrated watching all her fellow agents find true love. Where is her happily ever after? She’s waited months for the man she’s crushing on to ask her out, but it hasn’t happened. Taking things into her own hands, she enlists the aid of Gerry Wilder, dating guru extraordinaire, who warns her things don’t always turn out the way one imagines. Is it possible Ms. Wilder knows something she doesn’t?

My review:

Scifi/rock-n-roll romance. Such fun! Gerri Wilder is never wrong. So when she tells Sallsy she is crushing on the wrong guy she really should pay attention especially since Gerri knows who the right guy is. Sallsy is sweet and sassy and someone I’d love to hang out with. Kels is hot as Hades and talented to boot. Watching these two dance around each other is hilarious.  This story made me laugh out loud and sweat a bit. A total romp.

Romancing Paris (Warwick Dragons #3) by Milly Taiden

Blurb:

Paris Warwick, dragon shifter and reclusive artist, prefers being alone. No mates, no kids, and barely any friends. It’s all just a distraction from his art. He never goes out to clubs. Ever. Of course, the one night he goes out changes his life. When he sees her. His mate. He knows he can’t walk away from the beautiful Corinne, so he vows to only have one night with her. That’s it. Then it’s back to loneliness, right?

Corinne DuBois is on the run, free for the first time since…ever. It took her years to plan the perfect escape, and only one night to ruin it. The sexy stranger from the club had some pretty fertile mojo because she is definitely pregnant. Too bad he gave her a fake name. Two months later, with little hope, she is comforted by a sympathetic, elegant woman, who gives her a job and a place to stay. Lucky her, for once.

Turns out, her mysterious one-night stand was Johanna Warwick’s son. Corinne can’t help but fall for her baby daddy when he tells her that they are destined mates. Too bad her past just caught up to her, threatening the new life she was starting to build with Paris.

My review:

We have all wanted to hide from the world at one time or another. Paris Warwick is hiding from his family name, his past and most importantly from future hurt. He is perfectly happy to hide out in his loft creating art. Except his muse has gone on strike which leads his only friend to drag him out for a night on the town. Most shifters would be thrilled to find their mate but Paris isn’t your everyday shifter. Fate will win out and put you through the wringer if you try to defy her.

I loved Paris! He is a wonderful soul. Corinne makes a wonderful tool for the fates and truly deserves happiness.  I will admit that Johanna is my favorite Warwick but I’ve enjoyed watching the boys find their happiness.

Special Ops Seduction (Alaska Force #5) by Megan Crane

Blurb:

She's the last woman he ever wanted to see again...

After an official operation turned deadly, Jonas Crow began a new life in Grizzly Harbor with Alaska Force. But when fellow soldier Bethan Wilcox joins the group, she forces him to remember things he actively prefers to forget. That’s unforgivable enough. But now the two of them are forced together on a mission to uncover deadly secrets tied to their complicated past, and with the heat between them at a boil, forgiveness is the least of his worries...

And the only woman he needs.

Bethan Wilcox, one of the first women to make it through Army Ranger school, didn't join Alaska Force to deal with Jonas's foul temper. Or her own errant attraction to him. Thrown together in a race against the clock, they have to pretend to be a couple and play nice to throw the enemy off their scent. She knows better than to let their pretend love feel real...especially while time is running out.

Jonas has always been good at saving the world. But it’s Bethan he needs to save this time around—if she doesn’t save him first.

My review:

He grew up neglected on the streets and made himself into an elite warrior. She grew up not fitting into the mold her wealthy parents wanted for her. Joining the Army started out as a rebellion but she made herself into the best of the best. Now they are working together at Alaska Force and things are tense between them.

Jonas is a hardass. He is tough on everyone but he is especially cold and tough on their one female operator even though she meets and often exceeds expectations at every turn. Bethan has never met a challenge she couldn’t meet except Jonas. When they are forced together on an undercover mission will they be able to adapt and overcome past animosities or will they let the past ruin their future? I loved Bethan and always wanted to be her. This book sucked me in and kept me flipping pages till the very end. Though it’s part of a series it can be read standalone.

Crimson Moon Hideaway: When Reapers Fall (Women of the Fold Book 2) by Terri A. Wilson

Blurb:

Some mistakes are too painful to forgive.

Catrina Fernandez faced an impossible dilemma, and every choice has a consequence. When a woman from hell gave her a solution it seemed like her only option. However, she never realized she’d have to lose her soul in the process. Now as a reaper and a highly sought-after hired assassin she’s created quite the reputation. But she never forgot the only man she truly loved, especially since he was the first man she killed.

Finn McPherson worked as a reaper and a hired assassin for three hundred years. He never mixed business and pleasure until he met the one woman who moved his soul and needed a savior. Throwing caution to the wind, he offered her his protection but never imagined she would shoot him.

Now, these two reapers will meet at the Crimson Moon Hideaway and sparks will certainly fly, in and out of the bedroom. Too bad their roles are reversed this time and Finn will have to choose between killing the love of his life or being killed by his employer.

My review:

Love wins! This book features two souls separated by forces beyond their control for a very long time. When they find each other they are bound to kill one another. The author says this story pays homage to the movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie a movie I haven’t seen so I may have missed some inside jokes but no matter I really enjoyed the story anyway. This story can be read stand alone but will be more enjoyable if you’ve read Crimson Moon Hideaway: Time Wasn't Ready (Women of the Fold Book 1) first.

Loving Bea (Special Forces: Operation Alpha) (Counterstrike, #4) by Cara Carnes

Blurb:

She’s a magnet for trouble...

After they saved her from a violent marriage years before, Bea Stanz made a vow to fix her own problems and not rely so much on her brother and his fellow operatives at Counterstrike. Her newfound independence has been far from easy, but Bea 2.0 is determined to handle whatever comes her way. When a simple errand exposes a dangerous international kidnapping ring, she turns to the one man who’s taken her protection as a personal mission.

He swore to keep her safe…

Joe “Hazard” Santos left military service and joined Counterstrike after they rescued his sister. Protecting innocent women and children is his new mission, one he won’t fail. The beautiful, impulsive, and passionate little sister of a fellow operative is a task—one who blew into his life like a hurricane. He’ll do whatever it takes to keep her safe, even if she doesn’t want his help.

They will need every resource at their disposal to face this threat, but will all of Counterstrike and a Delta team be enough to succeed?

My review:

Another winner from Cara Carnes. The author adroitly mixes characters from three different series to give us a pulse pounding romantic suspense. Joe may be the perfect man. He’s patient and kind. It doesn’t hurt that he is all buff –n- tough and stuff. Bea is bent but not broken and having survived the storm she’s come back better and stronger than even she knows. Watching these two work together to save others is amazing but watching them come together in love is transcendent.  Totally recommend.

Deep into the Dark (Detective Margaret Nolan #1) by P.J. Tracy

Blurb:

Deep into the Dark features up-and-coming LAPD Detective Margaret Nolan

Sam Easton - a true survivor - is home from Afghanistan, trying to rebuild a life in his hometown of LA. Separated from his wife, bartending and therapy sessions are what occupy his days and nights. When friend and colleague Melody Traeger is beaten by her boyfriend, she turns to Sam for help. When the boyfriend turns up dead the next day, a hard case like Sam is the perfect suspect.

But LAPD Detective Margaret Nolan, whose brother recently died serving overseas, is sympathetic to Sam's troubles, and can't quite see him as a killer. She's more interested in the secrets Melody might be keeping and the developments in another murder case on the other side of town.

My review:

Deep into the Dark blew me away! I had no expectations from this author as I’d not read anything by her. (That will change.) I was a bit confused as this was billed as a new series featuring Detective Margaret Nolan but the story deals more with Sam and Melody than Detective Nolan. AND IT WORKS! We deal with the twisted mind of the killer, Sam’s PTSD and Melody’s self-esteem issues as well as several murders and then you have Detective Nolan holding her own against her older more set in his ways mentor and partner. The story, a well crafted murder spree takes us on twists and turns and throws a few red herrings at us but comes to a satisfying conclusion. I will be picking up the next installment and will be checking out the authors’ backlist.

Blurb:

She’s the sexiest woman he’s ever seen…and his new assignment.

He wants to get to know the vivacious beauty better, but his plan was to wine and dine her, not scrutinize every aspect of her life. She hates secrets – but she’s keeping a big one.

Bobbi is on a classified mission to learn who is spying for the enemy, and she’s running out of time. If she fails? It’s just the stability of the galaxy that’s at stake – no pressure.

She’s not the only one after the spy. Nova Force’s best are on the case, too, including Kurt. He's as sexy as sin and ranks higher than chocolate on her to-do list. When the enemy strikes, Bobbi and Kurt are thrown together on a mission only one of them is trained for, and a romance neither one of them expected…

My review:

Spy vs. spy. In this delicious tale we have everyone looking for a mole. That has Kurt and Bobbi unable to explore the chemistry between them until the mole is found. This is a sexy and exciting tale that will at turns have you laughing, sighing and holding your breath. Exciting.

Misadventures with a Lawyer by Julie Morgan

Misadventures with a Lawyer by Julie Morgan

Blurb:

In the court of love, will either of them object?

Legendary lawyer Chase Newstrom is as famous in court as he is with the ladies. His work-hard, play-harder mindset is why he’s never lost a case…or lacked a model on his arm. But a recent twist before the bench threatens to derail his perfect record.

Chase turns to law firm intern Ainsley Speire to solve his case’s problems after hours so he can gallivant around town with yet another lady friend, and Ainsley, despite being driven and focused, is none too pleased with her boss’s demands. She’s had to cancel long-standing plans at the last minute, again…and vows it’s for the last time.

Ainsley sits down with Chase’s most expensive Scotch in one hand and fancy pen in the other and pours it all out, literally and figuratively. When Chase finds the note—and a passed-out Ainsley—he’s intrigued. Perhaps there’s more to the soft-spoken Ms. Speire than he thought.

Ainsley wakes to Chase’s trademark cocky grin, and Chase sees a new spark in Ainsley’s eyes. Anything between them would be an HR nightmare, but is there a chance Chase and Ainsley are willing to work together on one more case? A case that promises a lifetime sentence of love?

Misadventures is a romantic series of spicy standalone novels, each written or co-written by some of the best names in romance. The stories are scandalous, refreshing, and, of course, incredibly sexy. They’re the perfect bedside read, a ‘quick blush’ for the reader who loves a page-turning romance.

My review:

Misadventures with a Lawyer is a modern romance that explores the dangers of love in the workplace. I’ll admit that I wasn’t too fond of Chase at the start as he was an oblivious manwhore. I loved Ainsley even if I thought her taste in men was questionable. The heart wants what the heart wants. This fun tale will make you giggle and sigh. I loved Ainsley’s sister and hope she gets a story. This is a fun escape.

In the Midnight Howl (Peculiar Mysteries #3) by Renee George

Blurb:

When an anonymous whistleblower from Peculiar, Missouri alleges that the mayor’s wife is a fraud, the Shifter Tri-State Council sends one of their best investigators: werebobcat Wilhelmina “Willy” Boden. Willy’s reluctant to investigate her friends who live in the small shifter town, especially handsome werecoyote Brady Corman—but she has a job to do.

Yeah. A job that gets a helluva lot more difficult when the town’s local pain-in-the-ass, Evelyn Meyers, is found dead. Willie jumps on board the investigation and soon discovers that both the town’s beloved Sheriff and Brady’s teenaged son are prime suspects, along with half the town.

Willy’s sense of duty won’t let her ignore evidence or turn a blind eye to injustice. Her loyalty to her friends will be tested as she digs deeper into Evelyn’s death and a secret kept by most of the town. And her relationship with Brady may be over before it even begins.

What’s a werebobcat to do when her instincts tell her one thing, and her heart the exact opposite?

Peculiar Mysteries series from USA Today bestselling author Renee George are laugh-out-loud, grip the edge of your seat, and swoon as you fall in love tales of mystery, humor, and romance that take place in the small (fictional) Ozark shifter town of Peculiar, Missouri.

My review:

In the Midnight Howl is an adorable laugh out loud paranormal cozy. If you haven’t read or listened to Thank You For Not Shifting (Peculiar Mysteries #2) you might want to in order to fully enjoy this as this book deals with characters we met in that book.  I love Willy! She is my kind of gal. No girly girl she doesn’t know how to deal with her burgeoning feelings for Brady. She does know how to investigate a murder and she does just that in this delightful tale.  Highly recommend.
