Karos (Star-Crossed Alien Mail Order Brides #7) by Susan Hayes

Blurb:
Looking for love on all the wrong planets? Try the Star-Crossed Dating Agency.

Karos might have survived the war on Romak, but it left scars on his body, and his heart.

Now he’s on Earth, assigned to guard the first alien embassy. His purpose is simple – protect his new home and everyone in it. This time, he won’t fail in his mission.

This book contains a bodyguard who can kick ass in high heels, and a war-weary dragon who is about to learn that love is the only battle you have to surrender to win.

My review:
Karos tells the story of two warriors fighting for the safety and well-being of their charges and falling in love. This is a short sweet tale that will leave you feeling good.

Fae King (The Crystal Kingdom Book 1) by Milly Taiden

Blurb:
Jerrek Valsys was quite literally cursed. In life and in love. With no wife to see him through those long lonely nights and no way to help tame the beast that currently resides inside him, he’d spent years waiting on his mate with a glowing rock to show up. Seriously. He had. Because the prophecy told him so. But when his beast comes out and finds its mate, he may have to forget about that whole prophecy thing. Even if it means he has to give up his crown as the Fae King.

Kaia Cutestone’s life sucks. She has a job with no future and lives with her dead-beat, soul-sucking brother. The only good things in her life are her friends Jen and Avery. It’s too bad the three of them have just been kidnapped with fairy dust. Yes. Tinkerbell type fairy dust. All Kaia has going for her at this point is that she just ran into the most gorgeous man she’s ever seen. He’s smoking hot, a little dark and dangerous, and she can’t stop thinking about him naked.

Thanks to her love of shifter romance novels, Kaia might be the only person on the planet who can help Jerrek tame his beast and keep him from killing more people. Kaia may not have a glowing rock but she sure is rocking an old ugly necklace. But is that enough to get her a happily ever after and help find her friends?

Reader Note: **This is the start of a fun, action-packed and smokin' hot new trilogy. If you're a fan of fae, elves, and all fantasy creatures, pick this one up. Shifter lovers, never fear, Milly's got a sexy alpha ready for you.**

My review:
The Fae King (The Crystal Kingdom Book 1) by Milly Taiden is the first in a wonderful new trilogy. This book is the terrific tale of Kaia Cutestone (one of three prophesied queens) and the Fae King Jerrek Valsys.  Kaia is smart and sweet and her good nature is often abused by those around her who should know better. When she is kidnapped through a portal and wakes in a goblins prison on a world that isn’t earth she has to find her spine and fast. As horrible as the stuff is that the author puts her through there is enough snark, farce and humor to keep us giggling through it. This is a fun and sexy tale that will leave you looking forward to the next installment.

Redeeming the Badge (Arizona K9 #2) by Dorothy F. Shaw

Blurb:
SHE WAS ALWAYS THE GIRL OF HIS DREAMS

In high school, she was the girl most likely to live happily ever after—rich, popular, beautiful…and maybe just a little mean. But Heather Winters’ dreams of marriage and motherhood haven’t worked out as she hoped. Now she’s back in Arizona, trying to reinvent herself. She knows what she doesn’t want: a serious relationship. She doesn’t remember Robert Caldwell from high school, but the good-looking K-9 officer is everything she’s looking for in a short-term fling.

A routine traffic stop brings Rob face to face with the girl who fueled his teenage fantasies—and she’s even more ravishing than ever. The former homecoming queen didn’t know he was alive back then. Now she’s changed—and she’s hurting. Despite how great they are together in bed, Heather isn’t letting him anywhere near her heart. But he’s got a plan—and with a little help from his canine partner, Tricks, he’ll show Heather that together, they have all the happiness they’ll ever need…

My review:
Redeeming the Badge is second chance romance that is hot as Hades and with a backstory that will twist your heartstrings. Rob was kind of scrawny in high school but he lusted after the mean girl Heather Winters. Fifteen years later Heather is back in town and has changed. Rob has changed too. He is no longer that scrawny kid he is a K9 cop and in top shape. When he and Heather meet again she doesn’t remember him and he can’t believe she isn’t the mean girl anymore. I felt for Heather and fell for Rob. Break out the ice water this one is steamy.

Saving Thea by Melissa Schroeder

Blurb:
Everyone in town knows Thea’s past. Dead mother, missing father…the girl who couldn’t remember. Now she’s returned to our small Texas town to start her life over.

She’s handful of a woman, sexy, vibrant, and she gets my blood hot whenever we interact. I shouldn’t be lusting after her at all since I’m the town’s sheriff and I’m sworn to protect her. Worse—she’s my best friend’s little sister so that whole hands-off policy should be firmly in place.

Unfortunately, it’s not.

See, each time we interact, I fall further under her spell and all those promises to keep my hands off her seem so stupid. But even as we fall into bed, evil is lurking in the shadows ready to strike.

As the killer ramps up the tension, I will have to do everything I can to keep Thea safe from harm, even if it risks my heart.

*This is a standalone romantic suspense with a happily ever after and no cliffhangers. This book was originally titled Her Mother's Killer and includes a new epilogue.*

My review:
Thea Johnson has come home. Her marriage has gone the way of the Dodo and she needs to go back to the beginning. Small towns never forget anything and most of the town believes Thea’s father killed her mother and then took off. Thea knows deep in her soul that isn’t the case. Now it appears someone is out to get her too. Can her brothers best bud the hunky sheriff Duncan keep her safe? This story is filled with twists and turns that will keep you guessing till the very end.

But can Emma Jane trust this handsome, undercover operator to keep her safe when she is in danger of falling into the arms of the deeply seductive, fiery Dragon. . .and never letting go?

My review:
If you like your men dark, dangerous and oh so sexy then Ilya Dragonovich is the book hero for you. No woman is going to tame him except the one who doesn’t want to. In the midst of a nasty divorce Emma Jane Preston needs help and Ilya provides it. Now a year later Emma is under attack and nobody can figure out why but Ilya isn’t about to let anyone harm the dragons mate weather he has claimed her or not.

No Good Men by Thea McAlistair

Blurb:
In 1934, almost everyone struggles to pay the rent, and Alex Dawson is no exception. To support his writing habit, he moonlights with his mentor Donnie as a bodyguard for the mayor. It’s dull work, until the night a handsome, golden-eyed stranger catches his eye–and both his boss and his mentor are killed when his back is turned.

Jobless and emotionally adrift, Alex vows to find the murderer before the corrupt police can pin the blame on him. But he soon discovers he’s in over his head. The golden-eyed stranger turns out to be a mob boss’s cousin, and a suspicious stack of money in Donnie’s dresser leads Alex to discover that his mentor and the mayor were involved in something more crooked than fundraising dinners and campaign speeches. As the death count rises amid corruption, mob politics, and anarchist plots, Alex realizes that the murders aren’t political or even business. This is the work of a spree killer, and Alex and his new boyfriend are the only ones who can stop them.

My review:
No Good Men by Thea McAlistair is a well written mystery that will drop you into 1934 and the depression. The author makes you weep at how homosexuals and black folk are treated and while I guessed the murder fairly early there was enough other things going on to keep me enthralled. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to more from this author and this series.

The Accidental Unicorn (Accidentally Paranormal Book 18) by Dakota Cassidy

Blurb:
Oliver Baldwin has a problem.
And it's a big one.
He has a unicorn horn. A unicorn horn that's pink and purple and shoots glitter everywhere.
But that's not all it does.
So what's a guy who, out of nowhere, has a swirly horn sprout from his head to do?
He calls the ladies of OOPS and in the process gets a bird's eye view of a world he never knew existed.
The good news?
Oliver meets a woman named Vinnie who just might change his mind about never falling in love again.
The bad news?
It's really hard to find the time to get to know someone you think might be the woman of your dreams when you have crazy unicorn hunters hot on your tail, a handful of gods and goddesses who'd like nothing more than to hack your horn off for its special power... Oh, and the threat of imminent death...

My review:
The Accidental Unicorn by Dakota Cassidy is a wonderful addition to the series. I loved that the unicorn was male. I loved Oliver, Vinnie and Baloney. The gang is as hilarious as ever. If you want an escape sure to put a smile on your face then The Accidental Unicorn is for you.

The Boulder Wolves Trilogy Paperback by Olivia Wildenstein

Blurb:
Enter a world where humans transform into wolves and hearts beat as hard as they break.
When the Alpha of the Boulder Pack dies, his son vies to become the next Alpha, and no one dares challenge him. Except Ness. The only female in her pack. Thus begins a treacherous game. The rules: winner takes all...including loser's heart.
Just when she thinks the fight is over, her place among the Boulders and at Liam's side is compromised. First, when her cousin claims Ness helped him elude his death sentence. And then, when August Watt, Ness's childhood friend, comes home to Boulder.
Ness is tired of fighting, tired of having to prove herself worthy of her pack's trust. But when an enemy pack arrives and threatens the Boulders, she has two choices: step aside and let the wolves who have pushed her away fend for themselves, or step up and help them fight the newcomers.
Ness has never stepped aside...not for anyone.
Why would she start now?

My review:
Three books that will have you thrilled you don’t have to wait for the next one to come out.
A Pack of Blood and Lies is an exciting tale of a young woman coming to terms with her past and a pack of mostly misogynistic males. Ness has questions and it seems like nobody wants to give her answers. But she is strong, tenacious and will not be denied.
A Pack of Vows and Tears answers some questions and gives us new ones to worry about. Ness is growing stronger and more secure in herself. Her relationships with August and Liam are even more complicated. I really enjoyed this exciting tale.

A Pack of Love and Hate is the thrilling end to a terrific series. I LOVED IT! This story picks up right where A Pack of Vows and Tears left off. Ness is tired of being a push me pull you between Liam and August. She just wants to find out how Cassandra cheated and save the pack (and Liams life). I loved watching Ness grow into a fierce young woman. This is a fast paced exciting story that I didn’t want to end.

So I Dated A Werewolf: a Beautiful Creatures novella by Michele Hauf

Blurb:
Michele Hauf's bestselling paranormal romance world of Beautiful Creatures features vampires, werewolves, faeries, demons, angels, and so much more. This fun, sexy story provides a peek into the world. All stories in the Beautiful Creatures world can be read in any order, no need to figure out series order!
Charming but reclusive werewolf Leopold von Heusen is ready for love. A dating app designed for paranormals vets humans who are ‘in the know’ about their kind, so Leo makes the leap, with hopes of finding ‘the one’.
Sara Kane doesn’t believe in the paranormal, but this dating app provides a foray for the ‘weird relationships’ article she’s writing for a major online blog. The guy thinks he’s a real werewolf? Hilarious! She plans to date him once or twice, get her story, then dump him. But she hadn’t planned on learning his truth…or falling in love.

My review:
So I Dated A Werewolf tells the story of a guy who doesn’t want to front anymore. Leopold wants to find a woman who can accept both sides of him without judgement or being a fur-freak. Sara meets Leopold under false pretenses. She has no clue about the paranormal world. But she is about to find out. Can she fall for a lonely werewolf? This story fell a little short for me because I was not thrilled with Sara’s motives in making the date in the first place. But she and Leopold were so cute together I ended up enjoying the story anyway.

Purrfect Magic (Whisker Witchcraft, #1) by Samantha Coville

Blurb:
Magic is one thing. Three balls of fluff and fur are a completely different story.
The prestigious and highly selective Jourdemayne Academy of Witchcraft only accepts twenty-five new students every year. But Harper Bishop has been virtually guaranteed her acceptance to the magic academy since the day she was born. One of the many perks of being the daughter of two legendary Warlocks.
But attending the academy was never her dream. Magic, quite frankly, bores Harper out of her goddamn mind. She wants to get out, see the world, experience life in all its glory. Passing on the school isn't an option, however. So she arrives for her first day and begins the countdown to freedom.
Until three tiny kittens start speaking to her telepathically.
Which isn't normal, even for witches.
Now it's not just surviving boring spell classes that Harper has to worry about. Something evil and powerful is coming to the Academy and only Harper and her magical kittens can stop it before it destroys everything in its path. What's the worst that could happen?

My review:
Purrfect Magic tells the tale of a girl who has everything and acts like it. Harper Bishop is an entitled brat. I don’t know why she was chosen to save the academy but it may be the only thing going for her. This is a well written story with an unlikable heroine and an even worse bad guy but there are three adorable kittens too provide comic relief. Don’t give up I think Harper may be redeemable.

Flaming Retribution by Laura Hawks

Blurb:
Romance novelist Kendall Roberts finds herself in desperate need of inspiration. Heading to a male review to appease her artistic appetite, she becomes embroiled in a chain of events which could end her life. Male dancer Skye Falcon notices Kendall at his club and is immediately attracted. However, he quickly discovers she is the object of someone intent on killing her. In order to save her life, he needs to solve the mystery before they succeed in their murderous attempts. Numerous fire bombs seem to throw Kendall into Skye's path and she has to wonder what unseen hand is guiding them to be together. Is it fate or is it by devious design?

My review:
Flaming Retribution was an interesting change of pace. Skye Falcon is comfortably well off, a volunteer fireman and a dancer in a male review. He is drawn to romance novelist Kendall Roberts who is sitting in the back row of the theater. She isn’t like the other women there. He needs to find out why he is so drawn to her.
This story is a mystery and an ugly duckling tale that will keep you invested right up to the end. I loved the twists and turns and had no idea who dunnit until the perp was revealed.

Dark Memento (Verona Bay #1) by Katie Reus

Blurb:
Welcome to Verona Bay, a small coastal town where the secrets just won’t stay buried—and people aren’t always who they seem.

She was the one that got away…

Eight years ago Serenity Washington watched as her twin sister was murdered. She was lucky to escape the same grisly fate. With her sister’s killer in jail, she relocated and tried to move on with her life. She married a man in the Air Force and started a family, but when her husband dies unexpectedly she moves back to the last place she remembers being happy—Verona Bay, FL.

Now that she’s come home, it’s all starting again…

Within months of Serenity’s homecoming, she receives a ‘gift’—a bracelet from her sister that was never recovered after her death—and a taunting note. Terrified for herself and her young daughter, she turns to the local sheriff for help. But there’s only so much they can do without proof that the gifts aren’t more than sick pranks. There’s been no DNA, no fingerprints left behind—nothing to indicate who’s leaving them. As the horrifying gifts arrive with increasing frequency, Serenity has no doubt that she’s the ultimate target. But with her sister’s murderer—a confessed serial killer—still behind bars, she has no idea who’s stalking her.

She turns to the one man she’s been trying to keep her distance from…

Former Marine Lucas Jordan has been hung up on single mom Serenity since she moved back to Verona Bay, but she’s made it clear she’s not looking for a relationship. When she’s targeted, however, all bets are off. He won’t sit by while she’s terrorized, and with her and her daughter’s lives in danger he’s prepared to stand his ground and protect them both. Together they face the impossible task of trying to figure out who to trust before they all wind up six feet under.

FIRST IN SERIES.

My review:
Dark Memento is a riveting tale that will keep you guessing. Someone is gas-lighting Serenity. They’re sending her mementos from her twin sister who was murdered eight years ago. But the murderer is in prison. This mind bending story gives us several suspects and winnowing them down won’t be easy. Keeping Serenity and her daughter safe falls to former Marine Lucas Jordan which is fine by him because he has fallen for the young widow and will let nothing harm her. This story is filled with twists and turns and a brain puzzle that will keep you guessing.

Love You So Sweetly (Love You So Stories #4) by Tara Lain

Blurb:
Reading his future in a glass of sweet tea.

The youngest son of one of America’s richest families, Remy Merced is so busy trying to save his family company from collapse, he’s never taken time to figure out if he’s gay, much less if he’s happy. Then his meddling mama hires him an assistant who’s everything Remy thinks he doesn’t want. Cute Harper Treadwell, from rural Arkansas, is a brilliant business prodigy… and openly gay. His wit and charm could confirm Remy’s suspicions about his own sexuality almost instantly—if they weren’t both already partnered.

When Remy’s girlfriend and Harper’s boyfriend get a little too friendly, Remy finds that the path to happiness requires a long drive in an old Prius, a growing appreciation for small towns, and a whole lot of sweet tea. But before they can forge a future—they have to let go of the past.

My review:
Love You So Sweetly is (dare I say it) sweeter than Georgia ice tea. This adorable tale tells the story of the city boy and the country mouse. Remy is smart, driven, confused about his sexuality and perhaps because of his momma’s Arkansas roots he is pretty down to earth for a rich California boy. Harper is smart, driven, openly gay and comes from Arkansas. When these two meet you are instantly charmed and want them to find a way to be together. I’m still smiling.

A Borrowing of Bones (Mercy & Elvis Mysteries #1) by Paula Munier

Blurb:
First in a gripping new mystery series about a retired MP and her bomb-sniffing dog who become embroiled in an investigation in the beautiful Vermont wilderness
It may be the Fourth of July weekend, but for retired soldiers Mercy Carr and Belgian Malinois Elvis, it’s just another walk in the remote Lye Brook Wilderness—until the former bomb-sniffing dog alerts to explosives and they find a squalling baby abandoned near a shallow grave filled with what appear to be human bones. U.S. Game Warden Troy Warner and his search-and rescue Newfoundland Susie Bear respond to Mercy’s 911 call, and the four must work together to track down a missing mother, solve a cold-case murder, and keep the citizens of Vermont safe on potentially the most incendiary Independence Day since the American Revolution.

A Borrowing of Bones is full of complex twists and real details about search-and-rescue dog training that Paula learned through the training of her own dog. With its canine sidekicks and rich, dramatic story, this debut will be a must-have for mystery fans.

My review:
A Borrowing of Bones is a wonderful start to a new series of mysteries. Mercy and Elvis may be down but they aren’t out by any stretch of the imagination. I loved watching them solidify into a team. Mercy is smart and stronger than she knows.  I really liked the terrific cast of supporting characters and really look forward to visiting again.

Blurb:
The Montgomery Ink saga continues with a new series set in Boulder, where a family secret might just change everything.

One mistake at a friend’s wedding rocks Liam Montgomery’s entire world, and everything he thought was true turns out to be a lie. But when an accident lands him in the ER, Liam meets someone that might just be the distraction he needs.

With two sets of overprotective siblings and a puppy that can't help but get into everything, Liam and Arden might just fall harder than either one ever expected.

My review:
Wrapped in Ink is a fantastic addition to the Montgomery Ink saga. I love that the author looks outside the box and believes that everyone should have their happily ever after. I LOVED Arden and her fantastic outlook on life and her resilience. I’d already liked Liam from his bits in other stories but getting to watch him fall was terrific. This story will tug your heartstrings and make you smile.

Eddie: Grime Doesn't Pay (The Brothers Grime Book 2) by Z.A. Maxfield

Blurb:
The Brothers Grime Book 2

Loving oneself can be a dirty job...

Eddie and Andrew have dynamite chemistry, except Eddie is profoundly dyslexic, and Andrew lives to read. Andrew is pathologically disorganized, and Eddie likes things neat and clutter-free.

Andrew is desperately ashamed of his hoarder father--a secret that could pull them apart even as a friend's tragedy brings them together.

When Andrew's father's condition deteriorates and he nearly dies because of his compulsion, Eddie and Andrew must learn compassion begins with loving one's self in Eddie: Grime Doesn't Pay.

My review:
I LOVED THIS BOOK FROM COVER TO COVER!!! This is a beautiful story about how everybody has issues and even the people who look like they have it all together are usually suffering over something. In this book the sexy dancing fool Eddie is profoundly dyslexic and has the biggest crush on his nieces teacher Andrew who lives for books. Andrew is desperately ashamed of his hoarder father. See everybody has something they are ashamed of. I loved these guys and the gang from The Brothers Grime (forensic cleaning company). I really want Dave and Gabe’s stories. This is a smart, really sweet story.
