Claiming Her Geeks by Eve Langlais

Blurb:
Deena's searched a long time for a man she can claim, but nobody has ever stirred her interest, until Simon and Frank. The moment she meets the nerdy friends, she wants to mark them as her own, but as alpha of her pack, she can't settle for a pair of geeks as her mates even if in the bedroom they make her submit.

At first Deena terrifies them, but as Simon and Frank get to know her, they realize that beneath the tough exterior is a woman who wants a man--or two--to take control. When it comes to fistfights, they might not have the strength to prevail, but in a battle of the mind, and heart, they've got the smarts it takes to emerge victorious... to her screaming pleasure.

Trust fate and two men, to show this she-wolf that with a little bit of bondage, teasing and pleasure, she can claim the geeks who draw her, because after all, even a bitch can't fight fate and her need for love.

My review:
Alpha female meets her match in not one but two geeky males. Even Deena has a picture in her mind about what an alpha’s mate looks like and Simon and Frank don’t fit the picture until they make her see that her mates should be as unique as she is.  As with any Eve Langlais book this is sweet, sexy and funny. My biggest complaint is that there has to make a woman alpha without her being bitchy or butch.

A Santini's Heart by Melissa Schroeder

Blurb:
Carlos Santini has seen the worst of war first hand. After leaving the Marines, he decided to open a therapy ranch. If he can’t fight anymore, he wants to help those who have served and who are still serving. Everything is fantastic, but for one little issue, his assistant, Tia Mendoza. The woman is bossy, sarcastic, and so hot he can barely keep his thoughts straight around her.

Tia loves the work she does with Carlos. She thrives helping other veterans like her brother. Of course, working for a man like Carlos isn’t easy. He has a hot temper and he is so sexy when he loses it. She can’t help but test him, until the day she pushes him too far.

Carlos knows from that first kiss that Tia is the woman for him. But, before they can have that Santini HEA, they find the ranch they both love in danger from some very bad men. As the threats grow deadly, Carlos realizes that before he can claim his woman, he will have to do everything in his power to save not only the ranch they both love, but also Tia’s life.

My review:
What is hotter than a former Marine? A former Marine who is now a cowboy. Carlos Santini was born a Marine. He was born into a Marine family and knew from the time he was a little one that he wanted to serve as one of America’s finest. He has served at a physical and emotional cost which led him to the one woman on earth who could move his crusty heart and deal with his grumpy butt. Tia Mendoza and her brother run the ranch where vets with PTSD can get equine therapy. It worked for Carlos so well he ended up working there and buying into the place when Tia’s brother was killed by a drunk driver. Now two years after they take on the ranch together another of Carlos’s siblings has gotten hitched and he has finally figured out that the reason he hasn’t been dating is because the woman he wants is right there on the ranch.  Now all he has to do is save the ranch and the girl and convince her that they belong together. With some help from the Santini clan he may just win it all.  I love Carlos because despite being hot he has his drawbacks like being bossy and a total grump at times. I love that Tia recognizes she doesn’t need a man to be happy but doesn’t discount the fact that a man can add happiness to the day.  Though this is part of a series it can be read stand alone. A Santini's Heart is a sweet sexy and fun read.

Wedding Moon (Black Hills Wolves #52) by D.L. Jackson

Blurb:
Felix Dawson loves the ladies. As a retriever, a Wolf who runs errands for the pack, he’s met his fair share of buxom beauties outside Los Lobos. After an incident involving a traveling freak show and a mob of angry clowns seeking retribution for his taking the innocence of some not so innocent triplets, he swore to his alpha he’d stay out of trouble and away from human women.

And so far he has, until a vision in white stops him on the interstate outside Sioux Falls. He’s a knight in shining armor kind of guy and far be it for him to pass up a runaway bride in distress. Promises be damned.

Tierney manages to escape what could’ve been the worst mistake of her life. When she ditches her groom before the wedding, she has to run with a one hundred thousand dollar gown, purchased by the man she’d left behind. Good thing someone stopped to pick her up on the interstate, and bonus, it sounds like they’re headed to a remote location where she can lay low, until she can get the dress shipped back and avoid arrest for grand larceny.

When she can’t get anything out of Felix about the private community he won’t take her to, she decides to sneak into the cargo area of his Hummer when he goes into the gas station to use the restroom, jumping from the frying pan into the fire.
And then he catches her.
Geronimo!

My review:
A runaway bride story with twists and turns that will keep you flipping pages. Felix is an easy going wolf with a sense of humor and adventure that has gotten him and his brothers into trouble on more than one occasion. He is trying to be good but who could ignore the distress rolling off the pretty young woman who has hopped in the cab of his truck semi dressed in an expensive wedding gown. Not him apparently. He does everything right. He removes her from the danger and drops her at a truck stop before heading back to Los Lobos. Unfortunately she didn’t get the memo and hitches a ride that will change her life. Drew, Gee and Ryker are going to have fun with this one and so will you.

My review:
Four fantastic new short stories that take place in the Psy-Changeling world by the fantastic Nalini Singh.
Echo of Silence – The gives us a look at the workings of an undersea station and a really sweet and endearing love story between a Psy tk and a human engineer that culminates amidst the tragedy of an earthquake.
Dorian – Dorian has long been one of my favorite characters and while we know what happened to him this story fills out how he felt dealing with it all.
Partners in Persuasion – Several Psy-Changeling stories have dealt with the problems of dominant / submissive personalities and each is as different as the characters themselves. In this story we have a submissive male who has been burnt by love with a dominant female and it has affected his relationships to this point. But now there is a dominant cat that has his wolf sitting up and howling. Can he put his heart on the line one more time?
Flirtation of Fate – My favorite of the four as we have watched the flirtation and give and take between Kenji and Garnet through several books. In this story we find out why things are the way they are between them and see if they can resolve their issues all while solving a locked door murder mystery.
This book is a prime example of why Nalini Singh is an auto-buy author for me.

Site on temporary hiatus due to broken bones

I was involved in an accident and had to have two plates and several pins placed in my leg. Between the pain and the pain medications I am not thinking to well. I have a couple of posts that I had done previously but until I can read without assistance I don't feel right about posting reviews. Wish me speedy recovery and I hope to be back soon.

Line Brawl Giveaway

Blurb:
Not all fights are one on one. In a team, no man should stand alone.

‘You can’t keep me.’

Shawn ‘Easy’ Pischlar has given his speech so often, it should be written on the white board in the Dartmouth Cobra’s locker room. Too many of his own teammates have heard the words.

And the games he’s played are finally catching up to him.

To hang on to his freedom, Shawn gave up on ever having someone to call his own. A young woman who expects nothing from him slips into his life and has him ready to toss the rulebook. While the man he loves tempts him to burn it.

Keeping them both would be easy, only…caring about them isn’t.

Because when he lets himself care, he remembers why he wrote the rules in the first place. Every lover, from the casual, to those who steal a piece of his heart, shouldn’t expect more than pleasure. More than passion.

Playing the game, on and off the ice, is his whole world. One he isn’t ready to change.

Except, life doesn’t stop for the game. And when old scars are ripped open, and he’s left bloody and beaten, the rules won’t help him put the pieces of his life back together.

To win this fight, he’ll have to break each and every one.

My review:
** spoiler alert ** Bianca Sommerland doesn’t skimp this book will take you through an entire gamut of emotions. This is not a book for those easily offended. I loved Shawn ‘Easy’ Pischlar the guy nobody could pin down. Mr “One Night Only” until of course he fell for his best friend Ian “Bruiser” White. Of course there are issues there and then he meets and is smitten by the pure but not so innocent Justina. Karma is a bitch and Shawn is about to get a dose. There is Carters little sister Sam the girl you love to hate, an assault from an old heartbreak, and lots of team goings on. This book will take you on one hell of an emotional rollercoaster ride and then there is the hot sex. Break out the tissues and a cold drink and enjoy.

Shadow Born (Shadows of Salem #1) by Jasmine Walt and Rebecca Hamilton

Blurb:
Chicago Police Detective Brooke Chandler is keeping a secret… and if she’s not careful, it could get her killed.

Brooke is no stranger to the supernatural. In Chicago, vampires are just as prevalent as drug lords, and infinitely more bloodthirsty. So when her partner and fiancé dies in a mysterious fire while chasing down a lead in Salem, she suspects something dark and otherworldly is at play.

Blessed with the ability to see into the past by touching inanimate objects, Brooke transfers to the Salem PD, hoping her talent will help her get to the bottom of things. Between dodging assassination attempts and being stonewalled at every turn, the going is tough. Add in a mysterious fae club owner with secrets of his own and a personal grudge against her, and it becomes nearly impossible.

If Brooke wants to play in the supernatural sandbox, she’s going to have to roll up her sleeves and get dirty. But how many people will have to die for Brooke to discover the truth about her fiance? And is she even ready to know?

My review:
Shadow Born is a terrific new addition to the UF genre.  Brooke has secrets even she doesn’t know but they are coming out and she is going to have to deal. She is strong even in her confusion. Add in a gorgeous hunk of elf who claims to have had an affair with her in the past and she is going to have to be even more careful because no matter what she is a heart is a fragile thing. Shadow Born is full of twists and turns and I can’t wait for the next installment.

My Angel (Good, Bad And Kinky, #2) by Tilly Greene

Blurb:
Not everything worth having is easy to obtain.

Ann Miller was murdered as a toddler and ended up in Heaven without ever really living. She’s never questioned what she missed experiencing, not until she earns her Guardian Angel wings. With them fluttering happily around her, she discovers what being in love truly feels like and wants to embrace it fully.

As a drummer for the band of the decade, Tom Baker leads a decadent life that takes a toll on him, and he works hard to take back control of his life. Ann is there to watch over him and the more time she spends with him, the more she wants. Then her luck changes. Ann is given the chance to live again with the man she loves, but there are conditions. She must wait for him to proclaim his heart first...and there’s a time limit.
Genre: Erotic Romance / Paranormal Rating: Erotica - Controversial (Contains adult content, language, and graphic sex)

My review:
Like any other Tilly Greene book this has hot, kinky sex in it but that isn’t what makes this follow up to Call Me Lucifer so great (or not the only thing). No, what makes it great are the characters. Ann is Tom’s guardian angel so she knows him inside and out and loves and wants to be with him anyway. Tom has gone through the bad boy rocker phase of his life. He is now clean and sober and ready to commit to a special woman who likes his kink as much as he does. Ann just has to convince him that she is that woman. I especially loved the ending.

Curious Minds (Knight and Moon #1) by Janet Evanovich & Phoef Sutton

Blurb:
Emerson Knight is introverted, eccentric, and has little to no sense of social etiquette. Good thing he’s also brilliant, rich, and (some people might say) handsome, or he’d probably be homeless. Riley Moon has just graduated from Harvard Business and Harvard Law. Her aggressive Texas spitfire attitude has helped her land her dream job as a junior analyst with mega-bank Blane-Grunwald. At least Riley Moon thought it was her dream job, until she is given her first assignment: babysitting Emerson Knight.

What starts off as an inquiry about missing bank funds in the Knight account leads to inquiries about a missing man, missing gold, and a life-and-death race across the country. Through the streets of Washington, D.C., and down into the underground vault of the Federal Reserve in New York City, an evil plan is exposed. A plan so sinister that only a megalomaniac could think it up, and only the unlikely duo of the irrepressibly charming Emerson Knight and the tenacious Riley Moon can stop it.

My review:
A hold on to the seat of your pants new series with trademark Janet Evanovich humor and the twisted mystery of Phoef Sutton.  Emerson Knight is quirky, smart, hot and loaded. Riley Moon is smart and sassy and learning to let loose. These two are destined to shake up the world and each other. I couldn’t put this down.

Journey (Journey #1) by Claudy Conn

Blurb:
What would you do if you wanted a normal life and another one was thrust into your hands?
What would you do if you had attained success and relative (if not complete) happiness and you were pushed onto a path that clearly designated it as ‘no return’?
What would you do if he, the man of your dreams walked into your life and you knew, absolutely knew, that one day he would leave because he was from another realm with secrets you couldn't discern. Would you seize the moment?
Riley Doogan decided to seize the moment, and it cost her all the normalcy she had ever hoped to have in her life and that life was now fraught with terror.
Part one of Riley’s journey takes us on waves of passion and exploding tides of adventure, just the kind she had never wanted to have. She had wanted the ‘white picket fence’ the dog, the children and a good, loving man. What she got was bloody hell and a passion she had never thought even possible!

My review:
Riley is a young woman in transition. She is now on her own as her grandmother has recently passed away. She meets sexy enigmatic Finn who wants to buy a piece of her grandmothers property. This pulls Riley into a world of witches, demons and other beings all who seem to want something from her. Journey tells us of the beginning of Riley’s path. It is a fast paced read that will keep you turning pages.

But things are in the works for Ravens, things she doesn’t even know about. Ian isn’t the only one that sees her in his future, and good or bad, Ian and Manifold are the only ones that will be able to keep her safe.

My review:
If paranormal rock and roll romance sounds like something you would like than you can do no better than S.A. Price. Just What You Need (Men of Manifold) is a spin-off and a great place to start. Sexy Ian Blackwell is human and the front man for the band Manifold. The rest of the band is made up of paranormals. Ravens Santiago is a tech savvy web goddess for Will It records. She is also a latent power. Ian is determined to make Ravens his but there are others who want her as well. Can the sexy singer make his claim and protect her from those that want to hurt her? Perfect Timing (Back on Track Series Book One) by J.C. Layne

Blurb:
Jes Harper loves her life. Being the production assistant for one of the most sought after producers in the industry, Brett Winters, she gets to spend her time doing what she loves – listening to music. Working with the musicians is fun, too, but after being burned by them twice before in love, she’s sworn them off for anything more than friends. But, Brett’s best friend is back in town and perfect in every way, and he could change her mind…if she’d just let him.

Mitch Lansing has lived the musician life – the drugs, the women, the partying – but he’s over that now. At 40, you tend to want to settle down, even if you’re a musician. He’s happy to be back home with his best friend, Brett, and recording his own music. One look at Brett’s assistant and he knows he’s found the perfect woman for him…if he can just convince her of that.

When coming on strong doesn't work, Mitch decides to take it slow and vows to not give up. Day by day, piece by piece, he chips away at the wall around Jes’s heart. Can he prove to her that not all musicians are the same? Or will a ghost from his past ruin everything for them both? The other musicians from her past broke her heart...Mitch could shatter it completely.

My review:
I loved and hated this book. I love Jes Harper a petite late 30’s early 40’s woman with a heart of gold. She has been burned by love and lives through her work as a production assistant for a music producer. She no longer dates musicians so her love life is nonexistent. Enter the hottest male she has ever seen Mitch Lansing. Her bosses best friend and a musician.  He is 40 and has passed the drugs, sex and rock and roll lifestyle. His attraction to Jes is immediate and overwhelming. I love that his attraction to Jes makes him feel like a teen again. I really like his patience with her. I read this book in one sitting. So I guess you are wondering what I hated about this book? The author leaves us hanging with questions that won’t get answered till the next book. Arrrgh how long will I have to wait? Write faster.  A really fun and sweet book.

Sniper (Special Ops #2) by Julie Morgan review and giveaway

Blurb:
Sniper Tom Brody enjoys his life in the Special Ops. He also enjoys his best friend, Antonella, maybe a little too much. Brody and Antonella have an agreement: friends to never cross that line.

Toni has hidden her feelings from Brody for as long as she can remember. Both want to cross the line, so much so, they act on it just before his next deployment.

When life appears to pick back up upon his return home, tragedy strikes. When an idle threat becomes a reality, Brody will encounter a fight he never thought he would have to face; search and rescue for the woman he loves.

My review:
Sniper is a friends to lovers romance military style. Sniper will have you on the edge of your seat and reading way past your bedtime. Sergeant Tom Brody is very good at his job and believes it to be worthwhile. His best friend Antonella is nurse and though they each think the other is hot they refuse to cross the line for fear of ruining their friendship. When the time comes it is off the chart explosive. These two are so sweet together. Tom’s job is protecting the homeland but can he protect the woman he loves? Sniper is like my favorite dish sweet and spicy. This is the 2nd book in the Special Ops Series by Julie Morgan and can be read standalone.

Sara Cannon just lost her job … and apparently her mind, because she can’t bring herself to care that her orderly lifestyle is coming apart at the seams. She’s leaving her downtown condo behind, moving out where pickup trucks share the roads with Harleys, and a local MC rules alongside law & order. Where the sexy, irritating MC president lives right on the other side of her fence. A line she crosses every summer night in her fantasies.

Ivan ‘Joystick’ Vanko has the life other men dream of. He’s the president of the Devil’s Flyers MC of Airway Heights, Washington, surrounded by brothers willing to lay down their lives for him. He owns legitimate businesses to cover the illicit club pipelines the law can’t uncover. Many locals call him before the sheriff, which means they owe him. Women want him, giving him no reason to let one into his bed full time, or into his heart. So why does he have the urge to do just that with his gorgeous, annoying neighbor?

Sara is recreating herself amid the ruins of her old life, when she makes a huge mistake—she hooks up with Stick. He takes all she has to offer and then tosses her out of his club. Now she’s out for revenge … and she’s not waiting to serve it cold. The man who controls it all may be about to find his summer too hot to handle. Will he ride away, or turn up the heat even more, until she melts in his arms?

My review:
Like your guys rough, tough and alpha? Ivan ‘Joystick’ Vanko is all of those things rolled up in a hot Russian package. Ivan the president of the Devil’s Flyers MC of Airway Heights, Washington just across the border from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Sara Cannon quit the job she has had since she was a teen when office politics finally get her down. She moves from Coeur d'Alene to her grandmother’s house in Airway Heights to be near her bff’s. She never counted on the hot mess that is Ivan.  He sure wasn’t ready for her. Can these two meet in the middle? Hot, sexy fun. Though this is part of a series it can be read stand alone.

Her Guardian Wolf (Black Hills Wolves #48) by Jax Garren

Blurb:
When Elle Montgomery’s domineering ex turns out to be a literal monster—a werewolf claiming her as his mate—she hires fireman Caleb Hunt as a bodyguard. Afraid to love again, she pours her passion into her work as a jewelry designer. Before long, her bodyguard becomes her best friend…her too-sexy best friend. Determined not to lose what they have, Elle ignores the growing lust she feels every time Caleb’s beautiful blue eyes look her over.

Ten years ago, Caleb reluctantly left the Tao pack and its cruel alpha rather than become part of that twisted regime. When he meets Elle, his mate, he finds a new purpose as her bodyguard. His skittish mate, though, won’t tell him what haunts her, and he can’t tell her what he really is—a werewolf in love.

When Elle’s ex returns, determined to claim her at all costs, Caleb learns her secret—she’s terrified of werewolves. They hit the road to outwit her ex. Along the way, Caleb is determined to defeat Elle’s deranged ex, change her mind about wolves, and bring his mate home to Los Lobos for good.

My review:
Lord love a patient man. Wolves are patient hunters and Caleb is tested daily. His mate is human and has no clue he is a werewolf. He wants to claim her but she has a secret and until she trusts him with it he is afraid to trust her with his. This is a tale of redemption and learning to trust.  I love Elle. She is strong, independent and has faith in herself. Caleb is a work in progress but needs to know when he has paid for his sins. These two are great together.  A feel good read.

Dragons Crown (Elder Enterprises Book 2) by Jo Vanz

Heavy is the head that wears the crown. A statement that rings so true for Katie and Paul. They must learn to rule the dragon race while still finding time for one another. When someone decided to stand in their way, Katie and Paul seek outside help. Can they save the Dragon race from the dark road it was heading down?

My review:
Have you read Dragon in the Rough (Elders Enterprises Book 1)? No! Then stop, go back and read it before reading this. It is terrific and well worth the read and it will make this fantastic book better. Dragons Crown picks up right where Dragon in the Rough left off and though this is a short book it packs a punch. Change is coming to the Dragons and Katie and Paul are determined that the change be for the betterment of all dragons. The problem is they have enemies both within and without. They need to gather those they can trust and get to work. It’s a bitch working through your honeymoon.  I can’t wait for the next book.

Blurb:
The Prophecy - "Every generation the nine daughters of Zeus are reborn, and with their rebirth are also nine Guardians. They will be marked by the gods, and given gifts to protect his treasure. Their abilities will only be unlocked when they find their muse."

Melanie Jacoby teaches English at Crystal City High School. She's also the reborn Muse of Tragic Poetry, but she isn't prepared for the tragedy of finding her roommate dead at the bottom of the stairs.

Nate Malone is the detective assigned to the case, but as the evidence points to an accidental fall, the visions begin. He sees a killer in a gold Kronos mask.

Mel is the next target.

The Order of the Titans are eager to bring about the return of the Golden Age of Man, and they're prepared to kill the Muses to complete their mission. But Nate's desire to protect Mel is almost as strong as his hunger for her.

And tragedy isn't part of his plan.

My review:
Lisa Kessler has a hit in this new series! What would modern day Muses do? What would they look like? And who wants them dead? Find the answers to these and other questions in Lure of Obsession.  This is a wonderful romantic suspense with a bit of paranormal thrown in. Melanie is the type of teacher I wanted and Nate needs someone like her in his life. Can’t wait to see who steps up for the other Muses.

Death, Taxes, and a Satin Garter (Tara Holloway #10) by Diane Kelly

Blurb:
FOR RICHER OR POORER, IN BUSINESS AND IN STEALTH.

Can IRS Special Agent Tara Holloway break up a clever ring of tax cheats who love money, dishonor the IRS, and disobey the laws of justice?

When Tara agreed to be her best friend’s maid of honor, she knew it would be a ton of work. But planning a bachelorette party is a piece of (wedding) cake compared to her latest mission for the IRS. Her target is radio host Florence “Flo” Cash, star of “The Flo Cash Cash Flow Show.” Not only has Flo been giving her listeners shady tax advice, she’s set up an elaborate barter system that leaves Uncle Sam out of the equation―and Tara tied in knots…

While Flo flouts the IRS at every turn, Tara has yet another case to tackle: a catfishing Casanova who’s relieved several lonely ladies of their cash, credit cards, and dignity. When her best friend’s big day arrives, it’s all Tara can do to keep from crying uncle. But when Tara snatches the bridal bouquet and her boyfriend Nick catches the satin garter, could Tara’s days of filing single tax returns be over?

My review:
Who would’ve thought a book about an IRS Special Agent would be fun? Death, Taxes, and a Satin Garter may be the 10th in the series but it was the first I’ve read and I can guarantee there will be some backlist bingeing in my future. IRS Special Agent Tara Holloway may be small but she is feisty and tenacious. I kept thinking of a fox terrier. Smart, funny and won’t let go. Tara is in the middle of 2 big cases and acting as maid of honor for her bff. Also she has a boyfriend to keep her on her toes. I got a total kick out of this book and highly recommend it if you want a fun light escape.

When the leader of the Animal Gang learns the truth of her skills, Molly’s simple life as a baker in her family’s shop is threatened. Could the Blue Wolf enforcer she’d been pining over help her escape and embrace her gifts . . . or is she just putting his life in danger?

Edo’s entire life had been one exception after another, never the norm on any path his life leads him. Using an ability he sees as mundane, he meets the beautiful baker while on a mission for his alpha. As she is hunted by the rogue gang she entrusts her secrets and her heart to him. But can he protect her in the diesel city and still serve his alpha and pack?

My review:
Di mi! I loved this book! It is even better than the first in this series. I don’t normally read steampunk or diesel punk but this series is the cats pajamas. I’ll admit it took a bit to catch on to the lingo but even so I fell for Molly and Edo. If you want a fun romance with a sassy gal and a guy just trying to keep up, check out this read even though it is part of a series it can be read stand alone. I guarantee a smile on your face and a sigh on your lips.

Winter's Path (Seasmoke Friends #2) by Kelly Moran

Blurb:
My name is Matt Holcomb, and I'm the good guy. The boy next door. I'm the safe bet and I always do the right thing. Then one night two years ago, I made a terrible mistake that caused irreparable damage, and the guilt is killing me. If I'm ever to make the leap and find love again, the woman would have to be perfect. She can't disrupt my carefully constructed control. I met my best friend Jenny Winter as a teenager and have loved her ever since. She's gorgeous and talented. Her voice could make angels weep. Yet she chose someone else and I swore I'd never fall for her again. Until something happens between us and passion ignites. But she's not the right woman for me, and crossing the line with her would not only change everything, it'll take away the only good thing I have left.

My review:
Winter's Path is Matt and Jenny’s story. Just as Ian was destined for Summer (Summer’s Road) Matt was destined for Jenny. This is a sweet, sometimes sad and often sexy friends to lovers tale as told by the incredible Kelly Moran. I really liked Jenny and couldn’t wait for Matt to get his head out of his butt. Though this is the second in the series it can be read stand alone.
