Mace: November (Mystic Zodiac Book 11) by Brandy Walker

Blurb:
One simple request…

Park Ranger Mace Seneca and Astronomer Piper Whitney have a past. One that bears repeating, if the Gods have their way…but, with a few slight changes. They broke up almost a year ago over something utterly ridiculous. She wanted him to come to Thanksgiving dinner at her parents’ house. He didn’t. Instead of explaining that the thought of going freaked Mace out, as he was worried about expectations, he left Piper standing on the sidewalk. Cold. At night. In the middle of November. And on her own.

It should have been the end.

But, when the Gods dip their hands into the lives of humans and Mystics, things tend not to stay over. With a little astronomical fiddling, Mace and Piper are thrust back into each other’s lives. They’re forced to work together in order to recover a meteorite that just happened to land in the State Park where Mace worked. Each of them dread and anticipate the encounter. What would it be like to see the person you still had feelings for? How would you cope with not being an us?

Leads to a second chance…

Working separately during the day and then spending their nights in close quarters, each of them wonder if they could be a couple again. Before that can happen, however, they need to examine how they fell apart so easily, and if they can truly have a second chance at love.

My review:
I love this loosely connected series. I think Mace may be my favorite to date. Eros feels like Chloe has had it too easy to date and needs a challenge. Getting Mace and Piper back together will be a real challenge.
Park Ranger Mace is a First Nations Mystic. Piper is a human Astronomer. After dating for five months Mace pulled a real asshole move and ditched Piper by the side of the road at night. He has missed her ever since but male pride and stupidity have kept him from trying to get her back. Now a year later she has been dropped into his care while she recovers a meteorite that has fallen in his park.  The forced closeness gives them time to examine what they had and gives Mace time to grovel. Can Piper forgive him? Can they start anew? This book is less about the Mystic and the flash boom of new love and more about what it takes to have lasting love. Seeing the characters grow is sweet and painful and fun.

Kill Without Mercy (ARES Security #1) by Alexandra Ivy

Blurb:
From the hellhole of a Taliban prison to sweet freedom, five brave military heroes have made it home—and they’re ready to take on the civilian missions no one else can. Individually they’re intimidating. Together they’re invincible. They’re the men of ARES Security.

Rafe Vargas is only in Newton, Iowa, to clear out his late grandfather’s small house. As the covert ops specialist for ARES Security, he's eager to get back to his new life in Texas. But when he crosses paths with Annie White, a haunted beauty with skeletons in her closet, he can't just walk away—not when she’s clearly in danger…

There’s a mysterious serial killer on the loose with a link to Annie’s dark past. And the closer he gets, the deeper Rafe’s instinct to protect kicks in. But even with his considerable skill, Annie’s courage, and his ARES buddies behind him, the slaying won’t stop. Now it’s only a matter of time before Annie’s next—unless they can unravel a history of deadly lies that won’t be buried.

My review:
Kill Without Mercy is the first in the new ARES Security series by Alexandra Ivy. Like other romantic suspense books it features a group of highly trained former military guys banding together to form an elite security firm. Kill Without Mercy takes place before their firm even opens. What separates this series from the others is the authors turn of phrase. Alexandra Ivy sucks you into this intense story filled with alpha men and a mystery that will keep you guessing right up until the end. Fans of Criminal Minds will love this mind bending tale of murder and mayhem with a bit of love thrown in just for fun. Fair warning you won’t be able to put it down.

Wolf with Benefits by Heather Long

Blurb:
After graduating college and spending a summer breaking the law, Shiloh Sullivan needs to make amends and accomplish something for Willow Bend. When she returns home, her best friend—the wolfish and playful Matt Montgomery—distracts her. In an effort to make his mother feel better, Matt cons Shiloh into telling his mother that she came home for him. The little fib, he promises, is all his mother needs to feel better about his sister’s recent mating and exodus across the ocean. Pretending a relationship with a wolf is impossible and, while Shiloh might be human, she knows the rules...

The friendly-with-benefits arrangement suits Matt fine. It makes his mother happy, helps the pack forgive his best friend, and gives him a reason to pry into the secrets Shiloh’s been keeping. Still, the closer they get and the more rules they break, the more Matt’s wolf wants to change their con game into a mating game. Two problems stand in his way—Shiloh’s very human parents never wanted their children to take the bite, and a wolf from across the line has his eye on her, too. Can Matt keep his best friend and mate her too?

My review:
Though this can be read standalone I recommend this whole series as it ROCKS! Shiloh was one of the Willow Bend humans responsible for helping set up the new pack. Now she is home and on probation. She is being harassed and ostracized by wolf and human alike. Except for her best friend Matt who comes up with a plan to help her out and if it ends up helping him out too so much the better. What they didn’t expect was falling in love. SO MUCH FUN!

Honey for Nothin' (Sweet & Dirty BBW Romance, #2) by Cathryn Cade

Blurb:
HONEY FOR NOTHIN'
Sweet & Dirty BBW Romance #2

featuring Keys, Kit & Remi in a red hot ménage romance.

Kit hates making choices--life has taught her she makes all the wrong ones. So what’s a BBW redhead to do when she must choose between two hot bikers?

Kit Weeks is on the run from a sadistic biker who wants to own her. Keys Younger is a man who’s finally put down roots in the North Idaho woods. Remington Red Hawk is a man with no tribe and no home, searching for a place to belong.

When the BBW redhead is forced to hide out at Keys’ auto-restoration shop, passion hotter than his welding torch flames between them. But Kit can’t trust a man who calls her pursuer ‘brother’. And Keys has had too many temporary lovers to settle for less than all in from the woman he wants.

Remi wants both of them. When he moves in, should Kit move on? If she stays, what will she have to do to deserve both of them? And her choice must be made as danger brews in the biker brotherhood.

Her two alpha heroes must prove to her that when she chooses them both, just for being herself she deserves all that’s sweetest in life ... honey for nothin’.

My review:
We met gorgeous, arrogant biker bad boy Keys in Show Me The Honey (Sweet & Dirty BBW Romance, #1). He was fun and snarky and totally hot and I wanted more. The author gave us more than I was anticipating but boy is it fun.  Keys and Remi have a sexual relationship and they both think Lindi’s friend Kit is smokin’. When Kit needs to hide out from a big beer-bellied biker with a bad temper they have a chance to get to know her better. Nobody is more surprised than Keys when he finds he likes living and loving both Remi and Kit.
Kit is not the type of character I usually like. She is young, timid and unsure of herself. It was fun watching her grow more sure of herself and learning she doesn’t have to do it all herself. I found myself liking her more and more. She pulled herself out a bad situation and decided to go for what she wants that would make her happy. Remi & Keys.  I really enjoyed this book. It kept me up way past my bedtime. I even broke out the map to get an idea of where all this takes place.
If you like bikers, sizzling hot sex and sassy ladies you will want to read Honey for Nothin'

Magic Stars (Grey Wolf #1) by Ilona Andrews

Blurb:
From award-winning author, Ilona Andrews, an original novella, set in the New York Times #1 bestselling Kate Daniels World and featuring fan-favorites, Derek, and Curran and Kate’s very independent ward, Julie.

Scarred, solitary Derek Gaunt has separated from his Pack, and is truly a lone wolf. With no family he answers to no one; but is fiercely loyal to a chosen few. So, when several of those close to him are murdered, he’ll stop at nothing to hunt their killer through the magic-drenched streets of Atlanta.

Never one to be left on the sidelines, equally determined—some might say stubborn—Julie Lennart-Olsen soon joins in his pursuit; and what began as revenge turns into a race to save the city. Their search pits them against powers they never imagined and magic so old, it predates history. It may cost Derek his life, but there are things for which even he would risk everything.

My review:
FANTASTIC! This first book in a new spin-off from
Ilona Andrews Kate Daniels series features our favorite werewolf Derek and Kate’s ward Julie. If you haven’t read the Kate Daniels series (you should) you can still read and enjoy this. This story is more young adult Derek is 20 and Julie is only 16 but the action, adventure and snark are still there. The writing team of Ilona Andrews haven’t let us down yet. Go buy this book!

I will warn you that reading this may inspire you to go back and re-read your favorite books.

A Fashionably Dead Christmas: Hot Damned Series, Book 5 by Robyn Peterman

Blurb:
This is holiday paranormal romantic comedy novella for your reading pleasure!

It’s Christmas at the Cressida House and all Hell is breaking loose.

Tree? Decorated and lit. Elf on a Shelf? Seated with style. Baby Jesus on the mantle? Fourteen neatly in a row. Life sized Nutcracker? Creepy, but standing proud. Invitations sent to entire immortal family to celebrate the holiday? Possibly the stupidest damn thing I’ve ever done.

Mixing Heaven and Hell on my cousin’s famous birthday seemed like such a brilliant idea. I wanted my baby’s first Christmas to be special—memorable. I’d like chalk my heinous idea up to having been fallen down drunk, but that won’t fly as it’s insanely difficult for a Vampyre to tie one on. So instead I’ll deal with obscene gifts from relatives, kidnapped rock stars and catering by Mother Nature.

To complicate matters, our new family pet thinks the whole house is his toilet. Ethan and I can’t even find a room with working lock on the door to spread a little holiday cheer.

Never, never again. Christmas from now on will be at a freakin’ spa for the undead—no poles for dancing and no slumber parties with the Devil.

I just have to make it through the next twenty-four hours without beheading a beloved one.

Merry freakin’ Christmas—and Happy New Year.

My review:
A Fashionably Dead Christmas is a hilarious, rollicking ride from one disaster to another all with a holiday theme. Astrid wants her baby boy to have a Christmas to remember and she succeeds just not like she had planned. Sit down, strap in and enjoy the ride with our potty mouthed momma and her crazy attempts at normalcy. With a family like hers crazy is the norm. But underneath it all you can feel the love and isn’t that what the holidays are all about?

My review:
Death at the Trade Show is the third in the Target Practice Mysteries by Nikki Haverstock. These cozy mysteries are fast, fun and sweet. Di, Mary and Moo track down a killer at a tradeshow for hunters and archers. There are plenty of suspects, motives and distractions.  Death at the Trade Show is a hit and will leave you wanting more.

About Ranae Rose:

I write what I know and love: adult romance with blue-collar heroes and real-life flavor. Tattoos, handcuffs and men in uniform are a few of my favorite things, and it shows in my thirty+ published books.

I live in the South with my man in uniform, who I married for the entertainment value. Just kidding – it was the handcuffs true love. So far, our happily ever after includes a couple kids, German Shepherd dogs and a mutual appreciation of timely ‘that’s what she said’ jokes.

When I’m not writing, I love reading, good coffee, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and whatever outdoor adventures I can find.

My Kind of Wonderful (Cedar Ridge #2) by Jill Shalvis

Blurb:
UNEXPECTED AND UNDENIABLE...

Bailey Moore has an agenda: skiing in the Rockies, exploring castles in Europe, ballroom dancing in Argentina. Now that she has a second lease on life, she's determined not to miss a thing. What she doesn't realize is that item #1 comes with a six-foot-one ski god hot enough to melt a polar ice cap. She doesn't want to miss out on him either, but Hudson Kincaid isn't the type of guy to love and let go. And as gorgeous as Cedar Ridge is, she's not planning to stick around.

As head of ski patrol at his family's resort, Hud thinks he's seen it all. But never has he run into someone like Bailey. She might look delicate, but her attitude is all firecracker. And her infectious joy touches something deep within him that he's been missing far too long. Now he'll just have to convince Bailey to take a chance on her biggest adventure yet . . . something rare and all kinds of wonderful.

My review:
Jill Shalvis continues to excel. She always writes something with hot heroes and wonderful women and this is no exception. In this book Hud is our hero. Cop, Ski Patrol, friend, coach and all around good guy who never has time to commit to a relationship. Our heroine in this book is what makes it really special. Bailey Moore is celebrating life. She has gotten the first good news about her health in 10 years, She has dumped her cheating ex and is determined to live life to the fullest even if it means butting heads with Hud when she would really rather be butting other parts with our hunky hero. This book will make you laugh and sigh and fall in love with Cedar Ridge.

A Beary Sweet Holiday (Bears of Blackrock Book 3) by Lia Davis

Blurb:
The kitchen isn't the only thing heating up this winter...

Tiffany Black, culinary artist and owner of Beary Sweets Café, is determined to make this year's Winter Solstice celebration one to remember. Especially since it will also be the mating ceremony for her brother, Anthony, and soon-to-be sister-in-law, Connie. She wants everything to be perfect. Unfortunately, you can't always get what you want. When she falls off a ladder in her café and breaks her ankle, she fears her plans are doomed. Until the sexy bear Healer, Holt, comes to the rescue--stirring up more than just recipes.

Mating has never been at the top of Holt's to-do list, and he's known Tiffany all her life. So when the mating urge slams into him after mending her ankle, he's taken aback--unsure and intrigued at the same time. The girl he watched grow up is now a curvy, sensual woman, and his bear wants to claim her. He wants to claim her.

The stubborn female refuses to follow Healer's orders and allow her ankle to heal, and she's hell-bent on catering the winter celebrations. In order to do what needs to be done, she insists that he help her. Since it gives him an excuse to stay by her side, he's all right with that. As they work side by side to make the Solstice unforgettable, their passions ignite, and things turn utterly delicious.

My review:
Short, sweet and sometimes silly I loved this sweet trip back to Blackrock. Though this is part of a series you can read it stand alone. I recommend it as a lunchtime read to perk up the rest of your day. I believe you too will get a kick out of Tiffany and Holt.

Wild Cat (Leopard People #8) by Christine Feehan

Blurb:
In the new Leopard novel by the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Cat’s Lair and Leopard’s Prey, passions explode like wildfire when a young woman’s feral instincts are ignited by a man who’s too dangerous not to desire…

A simple request for Siena Arnotto: deliver a gift to her grandfather’s friend. One look at Elijah Lospostos, hard-bodied and stripped to the waist, and Siena succumbs to a feline stirring she never felt before, and to Elijah’s reckless and pleasurable demands. But when that pulse-throbbing moment ends in the murder of an unexpected intruder, Elijah accuses the shaken and confused Siena of setting him up.

Then Siena discovers the truth of her Leopard heritage, of the secrets in her grandfather’s inner circle, and the sinister plot of revenge that has put her in jeopardy. When Siena’s grandfather is assassinated, she realizes the only man she can trust is Elijah. Now as her Leopard rises from within, Siena and Elijah share not only an animal instinct for survival—but a desire so raw and wild it may be the only thing that can save them.

My review:
I love Christine Feehans work. Her books are always exciting her men are always alpha and the women can redeem even the worst of the worst. I’ll admit I had my issues with Elijah Lospostos he is arrogant, pushy and always sure he is right. Even when he is wrong he insists Siena get past it because he was her mate and loved her so. If this was real life this guy would be in jail. But through the gift of her craft Christine Feehan makes you feel for him and in the end you are happy for them both.  .

Blurb:
Hope For Christmas was originally included in the holiday anthology Santa Wore Spurs. This novella launches The Cowboy Way series.

Cord Dixon, Mr. Laramie in the world of western clothing modeling, loses his job because he refuses to sleep with his female boss. Christmas is coming, and his bills are due, so he takes the only job he can find. A mall Santa. Unemployed and needing a job fast, Hope takes a job as an elf photographer at the local mall. She is not looking forward to her new job, until she meets her sexy Santa. Individually, Hope and Cord’s lives seem to be a hopeless mess. But with the magic of Christmas in the air, they work together to reclaim their lives and find love in the process.

My review:
I’ll admit I got this because it was a free read on Kindle. I love Becky McGraw’s cowboys and Cord Dixon is one sizzling hot cowboy. Hope is a city girl but they both are in trouble and they may each be the answer to each others troubles if their hearts don’t get in the way. But in the way of all good romances hearts get involved and then the fun begins. If you’ve never read Becky McGraw this is a great way to get to know her work. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and so will you.

Falling Hard (Falling Fast #2) by Tina Wainscott and giveaway

Blurb:
In bestselling author Tina Wainscott’s gritty, emotional small-town romance—perfect for fans of Jasinda Wilder and Colleen Hoover—passions run high as a reformed bad boy reconnects with an old enemy . . . and gets her engine revving.

There’s no one Pax Sullivan wants to run into less than Gemma Thornton. Back in high school, she revved his heart more than street racing. But she picked his clean-cut brother over him—only to accuse Blake of an unforgivable crime. Eventually the charges were dropped and Gemma left town, but the hard feelings lingered . . . along with Pax’s gnawing “what-ifs.” Seven years later, just as he quits the police force to open a racetrack, Gemma’s back—and their chemistry is more combustible than ever.

If it were up to her, Gemma would never lay eyes on another Sullivan. She hates them, and they hate her—even Pax, who just so happens to be fixing up her father’s B&B. But the more time she spends with the lean, hard-bodied ex-cop at the inn and on the track, the more Gemma sees that Pax is nothing like his brother. Despite their anguished history, she’s tempted to take their relationship into high gear . . . if she can face the past and risk her heart.

My review:
We met Pax in Falling Fast. He was the cop who quit because his dad, the Sherriff, was pushing to arrest the wrong guy, his best friend. So going into this I was predisposed to like Pax. This story will push buttons and force you to think without it being preachy. This is an incredible story and I still like Pax. You can read this story standalone but you will get more out of it if you’ve read Falling Fast. I can’t wait for Grace & Tanner.

Her Captain (Tempting Signs) by Taryn Kincaid and giveaway

Blurb:
Capricorn Slate Claybourne, an ex-Seal and former sniper who has seen and done things in country that no man should endure, returns to his bucolic hometown on Pieberry Island, desperate for the mundane, everyday routines he once wanted to escape.
A broken, soul-dead man unable to be around people, his body still a lethal weapon when his night terrors wake him from sleep, Slate’s failed to keep the promise he made to the commander who died in his arms: to look after the older man’s baby girl.
But animated Aries Holly Harper is not the pigtailed tot Slate expected her to be, when she lands on the island to take over the decrepit Pieberry House, determined to turn it into an inn for summer tourists, and even more determined to yank Slate back into the land of the living.
First she crashes into him at the island’s holiday Winter Festival, dumping a towering stack of pies at his feet, then she drags him off to a fortune teller against his better judgment. Except for the sizzling attraction smoldering between them, they’re incompatible in every way.
But when a furious December nor’easter traps them together at Pieberry House, will Slate and Holly overcome their pasts and discover they are two halves of a whole?

My review:
Warrior with PTSD and promises takes on perky and persistent progeny of the OIC that died in his arms. Holly Harper is not the pigtailed tot Slate expected her to be and he isn’t the fun loving prankster her father wrote to her about. But she is determined to bring him back to life. These two will out stubborn each other all the way to the alter.  Her Captain is sweet, funny, sad and sexy. There is no way to read this without feeling something. A fantastic addition to this loosely connected series.

Blurb:
Coming home doesn’t always solve things … but it does pave the way for second chances.

Time goes by … years spent silent and alone, cut off from those he loves. Until it’s time to come back, a scarred veteran, in many ways broken and looking for a meaning to his life. Perhaps it's not too late to right some wrongs. Make amends. Kiss a certain pair of sweet lips one more time.

If only Renny would damned well let him.

It doesn’t take Caleb long to realize Renny’s just the thing this croc needs to bring him back to life. Yet, what if he loses control again? He doesn’t want to take nibbling on her thighs to a whole new level.

Too bad, he can’t stay away, especially not when he discovers her secret. Add in a strange creature stalking the townsfolk and there is no way he’s leaving her alone.

Years ago it just about killed him to leave, but Caleb’s a changed man now. A darker kind of animal, and this retired soldier is ready to kill so he can stay.

Welcome to Bitten Point, where the swamp doesn't just keep its secrets, it sometimes eats them.

My review:
Eve Langlais does it again! In this first spin-off of the Kodiak Point series Croc shifter Caleb goes home to Bitten Point. He runs into surprises and secrets he isn’t totally prepared for but he isn’t the only one who has changed. Croc's Return is filled with fun characters a twisted mystery and a sexy crocodile shifter. Excerpt

Dennis Hascomb is a creep. Carefully taught by his exploitive parents, Dennis has used his YouTube Channel to out, label, and blackmail fellow students Southern California University. All it’s gained him are a lot of phony friends and passionate enemies. Then, at a post-game party, Dennis meets Raven Nez, the gay, Native American tight end for the SCU football team, and the beautiful guy blows all of Dennis’s ideas of life and love out of the water. Suddenly Dennis doesn’t want to be a creep, and he’s pretty sure he doesn’t want to be straight either. But changing your moral and sexual stripes in the jungle Dennis calls a family can be dangerous -- and painful.
Out and proud, Raven lives a charmed life in the warm embrace of his loving, wealthy, and proud family. Expected to honor his family and people, including marrying a Native American man, Raven never disappoints.  Raven uncovers a heart and soul in Dennis, and both are laid at his feet, but facing the reality of Dennis’s life may be uglier than Raven can bear and more than his family can stand.  Funny how two guys from such different families can both be living somebody else’s lives.

Dennis’s heart kept pounding in his throat as he crawled out of Walt’s car in the parking lot of the burger place and watched Raven’s long legs emerge from the front seat onto the pavement beside him. Jesus, he was about to go eat with this guy who looked like a god. Man, that was some kind of new milestone. He leaned over and peered in the front seat. “Thanks for driving, Walt. And for including me. Good to meet you.”
“Yeah. Same here.” Walt gave a wave to Raven. “See you later, lover.” After Raven slammed the door, Walt drove off.
“He seems like a great guy.”
Raven nodded as he walked toward the door of the diner. “Yeah, he’s the best. Been my friend since we were kids.” All those strong planes in his face seemed to soften. “Sometimes I’m not sure how I’d get through a day without Walt.” He pulled his jacket tighter and seemed to shudder against the breeze. Weird that Dennis wanted to wrap his arms around Raven to keep him warm. Weirder since he probably couldn’t get his arms halfway around the guy’s chest.
“But Walt’s not your boyfriend?” He swallowed hard.”
Raven seemed to take a breath. “Uh, no. Just friends.”
“I heard he was your guy.”
He shrugged. “We exaggerate our friendship a little to keep our families from trying to hook us up. I’d appreciate it if you kept it to yourself.”
“Sure. No big.” Why did he want to laugh? Maybe just because Raven Nez trusted him with a secret.
They got inside and were given a booth in the back. Walking behind Raven, Dennis got to watch people stare. Women’s lips parted and stayed open like they couldn’t catch their breath. A few people nudged each other, probably recognizing him from TV or the newspapers. The height, the hair, the overall gorgeousness. Hell, who wouldn’t stare? They slid onto the bench seats opposite each other and ordered burgers with fries and Cokes.
Raven smiled. “I really enjoyed getting to see that film in a new light. You were right. I’d never noticed the complete lack of law in the film—except for the law of the crooks. But the nihilism thing. I don’t know. The film is so exuberant and full of fun. I don’t think it says that God or meaning is dead, you know?”
Dennis grinned. Wow, Raven got it. The waitress brought their food, and Dennis dug in. So great getting to eat something his mother hadn’t cooked, and with another person—kind of like a friend. Of course, Raven wouldn’t be anything like a friend if he knew who Dennis was and what he did. He fought a shudder.
Raven took a huge bite, chewed, then tried to talk around his swallow which was kind of cute. “Butch and Jules get away, don’t they? I mean, it seemed like they both found something.”
“Yeah, interesting observation. I mean, it’s like one found God.”
Raven nodded. “And the other found love.”
Together they said, “Same thing.” Raven laughed and spit some bread on the table. It was fun to see him a little less than cool.
Dennis wiped his mouth with his napkin. “You ever been in love?”
“Not yet.”
“Is, uh, falling in love with a guy the same as falling in love with a girl?” He snorted. “Sorry. Dumb question. You just said you’ve never been in love.”
“And I’ve never been with a girl.”
“No kidding? Not even in high school or anything?”
“No. I knew I was gay when I was little. My grandfather raised me to accept the idea that some people are two-spirited, so I was actually excited when I realized I was. I rushed to tell my folks.” He shook his head. “As you can imagine, they weren’t quite so thrilled.”
“That must have been tough.”
He shrugged, but he didn’t look casual. “My grandfather intervened and told them stories of the old ways.” He shoved a couple of fries in his mouth.
“So your grandfather brought your parents around?”
“Not really. They accept my being gay, but they don’t like it.”
“Hell. Accepting is huge compared to some people I know.” Dennis shuddered. “So Indians, I mean, Native Americans accepted, uh, homosexuality?”
“Some tribes. It’s not the Native way to deny something out of existence or make laws against stuff that happens in nature. In some communities the two-spirited were actually revered and considered closer to spirit. Of course, often they were more like what we might call transgender. Not just guys who love guys.”
“Hell, that seems a lot better than being told you’re bad by your church for something you can’t change.” Jesus, he should change the subject. This one made him want to cry.
Raven shoved back his empty plate and sipped his Coke. “Yeah. I volunteer at the Gay Youth Shelter and, man, between their parents throwing them out and their churches calling them perverts, a lot of those kids barely escape suicide.” He stared at the dark liquid in his glass. “Some of them don’t escape.”

“That’s crazy.” So crazy he totally got it.
