The Unleashing (Call of Crows #1) by Shelly Laurenston

Blurb:

WINGING IT

Kera Watson never expected to face death behind a Los Angeles coffee shop. Not after surviving two tours lugging an M16 around the Middle East. If it wasn’t for her hot Viking customer showing up too late to help, nobody would even see her die.

In uncountable years of service to the Allfather Odin, Ludvig “Vig” Rundstrom has never seen anyone kick ass with quite as much style as Kera. He knows one way to save her life—but she might not like it. Signing up with the Crows will get Kera a new set of battle buddies: cackling, gossiping, squabbling, party-hearty women. With wings. So not the Marines.

But Vig can’t give up on someone as special as Kera. With a storm of oh-crap magic speeding straight for L.A., survival will depend on combining their strengths: Kera’s discipline, Vig’s loyalty… and the Crows’ sheer love of battle. Boy, are they in trouble.

My review:

The Unleashing is the first in a fabulous new series by Shelly Laurenston.  As with her other books it is liberally laced with humor and snarky women.  Fans of Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark will get a kick out of the Crows and other Clans.  This is action, adventure, romance and pure fun at its finest.  I couldn’t put this book down.

Reluctant Mate (Black Hills Wolves #11) by Chandra Ryan

Blurb:
Aimee Crest is the prissiest, most stuck-up Wolf Jackson Cooper has ever met. The woman has a temper that would send sailors running and enough emotional baggage to keep a shrink in business for a lifetime. A Wolf would do well to steer clear of her. And Jackson would be happy to do just that—if it weren’t for one little thing that makes her irresistible to him. She’s his mate.

It’s a fate Aimee didn’t ask for and one she’s not at all happy about. She doesn’t want a mate. More to the point, she refuses to accept one. Even if that mate happens to be tall, muscular, and damn good with his hands. He won’t be able to seduce his way into her heart. She won’t let him.

But in this battle of wills, there is no middle ground. Somebody is going to have to surrender.

My review:
I’ve never read anything by this author and so had no expectations.  I really enjoyed this story and love the cover.  Aimee Crest gave up her art for the Pack because they needed a lawyer.  She fell in love with a human and when she needed the Pack they let her down.  Is it any wonder why she has a bad attitude? Wolf Jackson Cooper lost his parents at a young age and was raised by humans.  When they discover each other in Gee’s bar in Los Lobos neither is thrilled that the other is their destined mate.  Can they get past all that and find each other? This is a quick paced story with a lot of subtext and a terrific addition to the Black Hills Wolves.  It is well written and I will check into this authors other work.

When Darkness Comes (Guardians of Eternity #1) by Alexandra Ivy

Blurb:
It’s been a hell of a day for Abby Barlow. In just a few hours, she’s survived an explosion, watched her employer die, had a startling dream, and now she finds herself in a seedy Chicago hotel with the sexy, unearthly Dante, a vampire she both desires and fears.

For 341 years, Dante has stood as guardian to The Chalice, a mortal woman chosen to hold back the darkness. A terrible twist of fate has now made Abby that woman. Three hours ago. Dante would have used all his charms to seduce her. Now she is his to protest. And he will do so until his very death.

A terrifying plan has been set in motion, one that will plunge Dante and Abby into an epic battle between good and evil – and a desperate race to save their love…

My review:
Friends have been encouraging me to read this series for some time.  I finally picked up this book after meeting Ms. Ivy at a reader con.  This book is packed with action and adventure.  It kept me riveted right till the end.  That being said it took time for me to like Abby and even longer for me to like Dante but eventually they won me over.  I will be checking out the next book as soon as I can.

Jagged Lovers Series by Catherine Vale - On The Prowl, On The Move, On The Edge

Jagged Lovers Series by Catherine Vale  - On The Prowl, On The Move, On The Edge

Blurbs:
Notice To Readers: The Jagged Lovers series IS a cliffhanger-based series so each part ends with a cliffhanger. In addition, I won't leave you hanging! All three parts are available right now! Enjoy!

On The Prowl:
Addison James will do anything to save her sister's life. That includes giving herself to a dangerous stranger, a man with secrets, a man far from human.

Griffin is the only one who can give Addison what her sister needs to survive, but to do so means Addison must give him the very same thing, no matter the cost.

On The Move:
Griffin was a shifter who refused to be loved, but Addison James wouldn’t take no for an answer. With hearts on the line, and a new future on the rise, they were anxious to share their lives together, but fate had another plan for them. Addison finds herself kidnapped by humans who thought they were there to rescue her, but when a new plan forms Griffin needs to act quickly or risk losing his one true mate forever.

On The Edge:
With raiders on the hunt, and Addison long gone, Griffin must find a way to lead his clan while desperately searching for the only woman he's truly ever loved. He failed to protect her once, and if he doesn't move quickly, he just night never get the chance to hold her in his arms again.

My review:

Gifted copies provided by author/publisher for an honest review.

I am so not a fan of serials.  Thank goodness all three installments were available at the time I was reading this or this would be a very different review.
Part 1 - On The Prowl - Addison is desperate to find a cure for her twin sister.  Desperate enough to travel to Peru with her ex to find a flower that will provide the cure.
Part 2 - On The Move – It is time for Addison to live up to her end of the bargain. Just when she becomes comfortable with Griffin and the shifters she is abducted by a bounty hunter.
Part 3 - On The Edge -  Reunited with her ex and her sister all Addison can think about is returning to Griffin.  Griffin is torn between finding Addison and protecting his people.

In my humble opinion this would have worked just fine as a book rather than split into three parts.  These have to be read in order and probably wouldn’t work as standalone.
Addison is smart, driven and a bit naïve.  Griffin is Alpha and at times obnoxious.  Watching him fall was a lot of fun.  If you treat this as a check your brain at the cover, total escape this is a good read.  If you have Kindle Unlimited get these three books as a vacation for your mind.  These books reminded me of 1950’s jungle movies.

Bayou Wolf (Wolves of Willow Bend #5) by Heather Long

Blurb:
The rise of so many lone wolves into a prospective sixth pack brings the Alphas of all the North American packs to Willow Bend for a summit meeting. Having so many powerful dominants in one place brings challenges and hazards—no protocol can be left unturned and none feels it more than Lincoln Buckley, charged by his Alpha to be the liaison with the Delta Crescent Alpha, the fierce and wildly beautiful Serafina Andre.

Serafina stands apart from her ‘fellow’ Alphas, the only female to hold such sway over a North American pack, she has only the Delta Crescent’s interests in mind and expects the challenges from the other male Alphas, dominants all, in their need to protect the females. It doesn’t surprise her in the least to find the wolf assigned to her as liaison has also been tasked with her protection—what does startle her is the interest she experiences with him.

An Alpha doesn’t submit, no matter how much the woman in her craves him, too. Her pack must come first, especially since what Willow Bend proposes is insanity…

My review:
All 5 North American Alphas are meeting in Willow Bend to discuss the future of the rogue pack (discovered in Rogue Wolf - Wolves of Willow Bend #4)There are protocols and posturing and of course politics.
When you are the Alpha of one of the biggest packs in North America and female your love life is going to take a back seat or so Serafina has found.  Time is limited due to duties and male egos are fragile.  Lincoln Buckley is charged by his Alpha to be the liaison with the Delta Crescent Alpha. I will admit to not liking Linc Buckley very much in previous books so I was delighted to see him taken down by a female Alpha. He has come to the realization (probably at the fists of his brothers) that perhaps his earlier actions/reactions may have been wrong.  Also meeting your mate has a way of messing with your mind.
Linc is Alpha enough to stand by and up for Sera but beta enough not to want her position.  This is a delicate dance and Heather Long handles it with aplomb.  I LOVE this series.

Falling Hard (Eight Second Ride #1) by Sandy Sullivan

Blurb:
Levi Bond is a professional bull rider. Eight seconds on the back of a two-thousand pound bull gets the adrenaline pumping, his heart racing, and makes him feel like a million bucks. When he gets it in his mind to check out fellow bull rider, Curt Walsh, he is reminded how easy it would be to fall hard for the rugged cowboy.

Curt Walsh has the career he’s always wanted—professional bull rider. He’s good—more than good, he’s one of the best, but he’s off his game at the moment. Confusion about his sexual preference is running him ragged. He likes both men and women, but what he really wants is Levi Bond, his friend and fellow bull rider.

What happens when two macho bull riders fall for each other? Riding bulls is only eight seconds, but sharing a life together outside of the arena is an even bigger challenge. Are they ready to face it together?

My review:
m/m
Sandy Sullivan writes sexy reads.  That being said I was a little overwhelmed (as were our heroes Levi and Curt) by the amount of sex at the beginning of this book.  It was like they were hitting it whenever they weren’t eating, sleeping, driving or riding a bull.  However, just as I was getting ready to give up they started talking and the story grew legs and carried me away.  This is a fun cowboy story with a whole lotta hot cowboy on cowboy loving.

Soul Rest (Knights of the Board Room #7) by Joey W. Hill

Soul Rest (Knights of the Board Room #7) by Joey W. Hill

Blurb:
Celeste has worked her ass off to establish her freelance blog as a source of accurate crime news for the Baton Rouge area. Being a workaholic, focusing solely on her career, was her choice. Five years ago, she had a life-changing experience in a BDSM club that made it clear she is a submissive, but she believes her past makes embracing that path impossible. Then Sergeant Leland Keller walks into her life on a crime scene. He’s the Dom she’s always feared and hoped she’d meet, and he recognizes her as what he’s been looking for as well. But she fights submission as much as she longs for it.

Leland always thought he was looking for a docile, sweet-natured sub, but the heart wants what it wants. He can tell Celeste is aching for love and surrender. Having served in the military and now as a patrol sergeant in one of Baton Rouge’s most dangerous districts, he doesn’t shy from a challenge. His job is to protect and serve. He’s not going to let her down.

My review:
It is because of books like this that Joey W. Hill is on my auto-buy list.  She has an incredible gift with words.  In this Knights of the Board Room finale we are treated to the multi layered tale of Baton Rouge police Sergeant Leland Keller and journalist Celeste Lewis.  We have met both of these characters briefly in other KOB books but if you haven’t read them this book stands alone just fine.  Soul Rest is an erotic journey of discovery with BDSM elements. There is also romantic suspense as Leland struggles to save Celeste from a gang member who feels she is getting too close to exposing him as a murderer, her past and from herself.  He needs to prove to her that she is worth loving long term and that he isn’t going anywhere.  And then of course we are treated to Ben & Marcie’s (Hostile Takeover -Knights of the Board Room #5) wedding and after party where we get to touch base with the original Knights of the Board Room and guests.  As with any Joey W. Hill book if beautifully recounted kinky sex is not your thing- skip this book.  But if you want to read a super hot scintillating erotic romance give this book and Joey W. Hill a try.

You can read the free story where we meet Celeste for the first time here.

Lust Actually (Tempting Signs #1) by Heather Long

Blurb:
12 Authors. 12 Zodiac Signs. 1 Explosive Series. What seductive, contemporary romance will you find today? ARIES.

Ethan Andrews makes his living reading people and tailoring his sales pitch to what they want. He lives his life on the road, traveling from city to city, hotel to hotel, and it all works for him until he meets Norah Silver—the woman he wants to come home to.

Norah Silver has a plan, one that requires focus and dedication. She’s working sixty to eighty hours a week between her two jobs—one for money and the other for her passion. She thrives on giving solid relationship advice that may be based in the stars, but also grounded in reality. The last thing she expected was to find a sizzling love connection of her own.

Sparks fly when these two stubborn Aries launch into an impulsive relationship. Telling themselves lust is actually enough turns out to be a lie, but can these rams bend enough to recognize it or will their off the charts chemistry explode before they really get started?

My review:
ARIES.  The ram.  Enterprising, Incisive, Spontaneous, Daring, Active, Courageous and Energetic, the Aries are the proverbial infants, guileless and optimistic to the fault. However, they also are impatient, impetuous, vain, proud and egoistic.  When two Aries get together it makes for a rather passionate relationship.  Sure the sex is off the charts but they both can’t be right all the time.
I absolutely fell head over tail for Ethan.  He is charming, comfortably well off and has an incredible amount of patience. Every bit of which he will need in order to settle the totally driven and nervous Norah.  These two rams butt heads but love is stars.

A Taste of You by Irene Preston

Blurb:

Hell's Kitchen has nothing on the flames Giancarlo and Garrett ignite at Restaurant Ransom...
Garrett Ransom is America's hot chef du jour. He has a Michelin-starred restaurant in New York City, a hit reality TV show, and a new man in his bed every week. Yes, he secretly thinks his business partner, Giancarlo "Carlo" Rotolo, is hotter than a ghost pepper, but he would never jeopardize their friendship with a fling. Then Garrett overhears some juicy gossip among the crew and realizes he'll have to break Giancarlo's cardinal rule, no banging the staff - for Carlo's own good, of course. Just a taste of Carlo should be plenty. Long-term relationships aren't on Garrett's menu.
Giancarlo's been in love with Garrett forever. He's sure Garrett will eventually realize they are destined to be more than business partners. But when Garrett installs his latest boyfriend as their new chef d'cuisine and announces plans to leave Carlo in New York while he opens a second restaurant on the west coast, Carlo is forced to re-evaluate his life.

Can a high-strung British chef and a nice Italian boy from Brooklyn find the perfect fusion of fine-dining and family-style?

My review:
m/m
Business partners to lovers.  Carlo has been the longest relationship Garrett has ever had. They have been friends and partners for years but never lovers.  Garrett doesn’t do love and Carlo knows this but it doesn’t keep him from loving Garrett from afar.  But things are heating up in and out of the kitchen and changes are happening.  Maybe some good things maybe not but change it is happening.
I enjoyed watching these two get together.  Still I don’t think that Garrett deserves Carlo but if he is who Carlo wants then I am happy for them both.

Savannah prefers to lace up her running shoes, but Quentin is determined to create a treatment plan to help her settle in for the long haul.

Can a decade of pain be healed with a healthy dose of love? Or will Healing Springs fail to live up to its legendary name?

My review:
Not over You is a sweet second chance romance that will make you laugh and cry.  The characters have gone through hell and are trying hard to make it out the other side.  There is intimacy but most of the sex is fade to black.  Every now and then you need to read a book like this to remind you that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and there are good people out there.

Fashionably Dead in Diapers (Hot Damned #4) by Robyn Peterman

Blurb:

And I thought being half Vampyre/half Demon was hard…That’s nothing compared to being a mother. Sweet baby Moses in a boob tube, there aren’t any books on raising True Immortals so let me give you a few tips…
~Make a map of every closet and bathroom in your home if you enjoy having sex. Sleep deprivation can cause confusion and a map will help if you only have seven minutes and thirty-one seconds. You’re welcome.
~Parenting books are useless if you're not human. If your child is half Vampyre/ half Demon I would suggest not using parenting books at all--they can backfire like a mother humper. Trust me on this.
~Have sex.
~When your child tells you he has an imaginary friend, do not discount this as fantasy. Often times your child isn't imagining anything. If he persists with alarming and violent stories about this fictional buddy it's probably a Troll. Do a thorough search of your home and kill it. Decapitation works best. Some imaginary friends are harmless. However, it's wise not to take chances.
~Have sex again.
~When in large crowds, make sure you hold tight to your child's hand. Losing a child in an amusement park is terrifying. If you're truly paranoid a parent could consider putting a chip in their child. If you do this don't discuss it at dinner parties. People will think you are weird.
~At least cuddle.
~Playing with dolls is fun. Being one? No so much. If your child ever finds a Genie in a bottle, flush it immediately. Many children wish for things that are very difficult to reverse...like being doll sized. If this happens, move to Oz. There are many people of small stature there. And yes, it really does exist.
~Find a closet and go to town.

My review:

Another foul mouthed, freekin’ hilarious, laugh out loud adventure with Astrid, Ethan, their baby and friends.  The title headings are funny child rearing tips and Astrid is a total hoot whether she knows who she is or not.  When a Vampyre/half Demon and a Vampyre Prince have a True Immortal as a child things are going to happen.  Just look at Astrid’s totally dysfunctional family.  But Astrid is determined to be a great mother and f*@k anyone who gets in her way.  When their son is stolen by the fairies Astrid, Ethan, and friends head to Xanthia to get him back and hilarity and mayhem ensue.  This book isn’t for those without a funny bone.  I loved it.

Forever (Eternity #1) by Allyson Young

Blurb:
Dean Chambray is an arrogant, handsome, undercover crime boss, awaiting a certain man he must take down. Women line up for him, but when they put out, he puts them out.

Enter Amy Copeland, product of foster care, the streets and glitter of Vegas. Resolving to change her life, she abstains from relationships.

These damaged souls meet, and beneath the searing lust lies a deeper sense of belonging. Cautiously building a life together, Dean falls back into misogyny. Betrayed, Amy flees.

Recognizing his folly, he struggles to find her, while the pincers tighten around his small organization. Desperate, Dean resorts to kidnapping when she refuses to return.

It takes patience and considerable effort to convince Amy to trust him again, and accept he loves her. Then, caught up in a pre-emptive strike, her life is at risk. Dean must rescue Amy from certain death, making her his own, forever.

My review:
I won this book from a “new to me author”.  It was a familiar read with a few wonderful twists and turns.  The supporting cast was not just there for comic relief.  There is some smoking hot sex so if that isn’t your thing pass this book by.  Both Amy and Dean have issues and neither knows how to have a “normal” relationship.  It was fun watching them figure it out. I will be checking out this authors backlist and looking forward to the next in this series.

A Wolf's Promise (Black Hills Wolves #10) by Cara Carnes

Blurb:
A woman does what’s necessary to get her man…

When Drayce Freeman rocked Kinsey Jamison’s world one passionate night and then turned tail and ran the morning after, she did the only thing a self-respecting woman would. Chase him down and prove they had the zing. Fortunately her BFF, a jaguar shifter, gave her the 411 on wolves—or most of it, that is. She’s ready to do whatever it takes to get her man—even if it means taking on the whole pack.

The last thing Drayce needs right now is the sexy human his inner wolf wants to claim showing up in Los Lobos. The headstrong, goofy female refuses to take no for an answer. Living on the fringes of a rebuilding pack is hard enough, but now he has the widow of his pack mate and a rugrat to deal with. Adding a human to the mix would be a mistake. Duty sucks.

My review:
Our hero has enough on his plate without an unforgettable one night stand invading Pack territory to look him up.  Our heroine knows that magic like the chemistry between the two is not something you run across every day and wants to explore it further.  Take these two add in trust issues, dog v. cat and a dysfunctional Pack trying to get it together and you have a fun, sexy read.  A terrific addition to this series.

The Accidental Countess (Once Upon An Accident #1) by Melissa Schroeder

Blurb:
Being a spinster was much easier than becoming the accidental countess and it definitely didn’t prepare her for falling in love.

Colleen MacGregor doesn’t like rich men, especially rich titled men. Still, her guilt won’t allow her to leave Sebastian passed out in the snow. Before he can leave, they are caught in a compromising situation. Under an agreement he will leave and never bother her again, Colleen marries a man she barely knows to save her reputation. Before she can really stop anything, she is whisked to London, where she is transformed into an Original and captures the attention of the ton—not to mention her husband.

Sebastian Ware thinks he’ll never see the sharp-tongued spinster again. He never planned on becoming the next Earl of Penwyth… or on falling in love. But before he can declare his feelings, he must protect her from an enemy who wants them both dead. Racing against the clock, Sebastian strives to save them both so he can turn their accidental love into a love for eternity.

My review:
The Accidental Countess is a fun historical romance.  Bluestocking spinster saves entitled rake. She has no plans to marry but when found alone with him it is either marry or have her reputation ruined.  Things would have been fine but right after they marry he finds out his cousin has passed away and he is now an Earl.  Ooops, no annulment now.  As with any good historical there is romance, mystery, dancing and of course some snappy dialogue.  I truly enjoyed this book.  If you are looking for smoking hot read Ms. Schroeder’s contemporary novels.  This book has some intimacy but nothing like Melissa Schroeder’s other books.

Alpha's Truth (Fallen Alpha #2) by Rebecca Royce

Blurb:
Montana Alpha Beaux Nelson believes in living his life the way werewolves were meant to—as naturally and free as possible. He honors the moon with every hunt and breath in his body. When he discovers his true mate is the healer of another pack, he’s determined nothing will come between them—not even her kidnapping. Pursuing her across the continent, Beaux will take any risk to claim the woman meant for him…but surviving her rejection is another matter.

Lake Fennell has never thrived as a healer should, her gift acts out, she changes others without their permission and has failed to save those precious to her. When she discovers Beaux may very well be her true mate, she flees rather than face the possibility. In her haste, she falls into the arms of the True Believers. Months of torture later, she can barely believe it when she wakes to find herself with the one man she shouldn’t want and can never have. In order to save them both, she must leave her true mate, knowing she might not leave his heart intact. But if she doesn’t do what she was born to do everything will be lost…including the world she’s fought the hardest for.

My review:
This book hit home.  If my husband was a werewolf he would be a lot like Beaux Nelson.
Beaux is incredibly patient.  He survived Lucien, he survived losing a wife, but he may not survive losing his True Mate, Lake Fennell. He wants/needs her and when she runs he chases.  He has been chasing her for 8 months 6 of which she was kidnapped by the True Believers (a human antiwere hate group).  Now he has rescued her but she has been through hell and as much as she may want him back she won’t mate with him.  This book had me laughing, crying and yelling but it was so worth it in the end.  This book can be read standalone but I recommend reading at least Alpha's Strength (Fallen Alpha #1) so you better understand the tensions between the alphas.

Return to Me (Covington Cove #1) by Kelly Moran

Blurb:
With every beat of the heart comes a memory of what could have been…

Ten years ago, Cole Covington was just another rich kid who got everything he wanted—including young and trusting Mia Galdon. Then one night everything changed, and two hearts were shattered. Cole buried his guilt in the military, where love was just part of the past. Now Cole has come back home, emotionally damaged, guarded, and unprepared for what’s waiting for him…

At the urging of Cole’s sister, Mia has returned to the Covington family’s coastal home in Wilmington as a private nurse to help Cole recover. With her uncertain personal life at a crossroad, Mia doesn’t have the luxury of saying no to the job. And she soon finds out that the attraction is still alive. So are memories of betrayal. But Mia will discover more than the power of resilience. She’ll discover a secret Cole has held for years, one that will force them to confront the past and give new meaning to letting go, forgiveness, and a future worth fighting for.

My review:
Return to Me is an incredibly sweet second chance romance.  Mia is a wonderful character. She is strong and sweet, unassuming and kind.  Cole has sacrificed time and again and now he is hurt and needs what only Mia can give him.  These two have a second chance at love but will the things that tore them apart the first time do it again?
This book wraps itself around your heart, sucks you in, makes you laugh, cry, ache and sigh. Well done Kelly Moran.

A Grave Mistake (Blackmore Sisters Mystery Book 6) by Leighann Dobbs

Blurb:
When a mutilated body shows up in their seaside town of Noquitt Maine, the Blackmoore sisters realize that an ancient relic they've been trying to locate has been hidden under their noses the whole time.

... Too bad they aren't the only ones that know it's there.

Stalked by a mysterious candy-chewing killer and threatened by paranormals, the girls must race against time to interpret a decades old clue left in an overgrown graveyard before the relic falls into the hands of their evil enemy Dr. Mortimer Bly.

The search turns personal and the girls find their paranormal skills tested on every level while they try desperately to find the relic, a vessel with mystical properties, before it falls into the wrong hands.

My review:
Another fun mystery featuring some bad guys we have seen before.  The girls are back.  The bad guys announce themselves with a dead body in town clutching a map a lot like the one their aunt sent them.  This gets the girls racing against the bad guys and following clues.
I was a little disappointed in this book.  Not that the story wasn’t good it was.  It just felt like I’d read it before.  I want to know more about Mateo.  I am thrilled that the ending hints the girls will be going to a new location for their next adventure.

Curious (The Finn Factor #1) by R.G. Alexander

Blurb:
Are you Curious?

Jeremy Porter is. Though the bisexual comic book artist has known Owen Finn for most of his life—long enough to know that he is terminally straight—he can’t help but imagine what things would be like if he weren’t.

Owen is far from vanilla—as a dominant in the local fetish community, he sees as much action as Jeremy does. Lately even more.

Since Jeremy isn’t into collars and Owen isn’t into men, it seems like his fantasies will remain just that forever…until one night when Owen gets curious.

Warning: Contains explicit m/m nookie. A lot of it. Very detailed. Two men getting kinky, talking dirty and doing the horizontal mambo. Are you reading this? Do you see them on the cover? Guy parts will touch. You have been warned.

(R.G. Alexander, BDSM, spanking, m/m, Hot romance, steamy romance, first time)

My review:
Friends to lovers m/m style.  Curious is a fast paced, well written, fun contemporary mm romance and I really enjoyed it.  I wasn’t sure I would because of the title.  I’ve read several books where the guy is hurt by guy friends who are just “curious”. Jeremy is sure that is what is happening here with his best friend Owen and it just may irreparably break his heart.  Watching them explore and discover new things about themselves was just fantastic. There is mild consensual bondage and spanking. The Finn family is terrific and I can’t wait to read more.

Blurb:

He’s waited years for her…

And she knows exactly how the pack’s alpha, Drake Neilson, views her; as a convenient lay. So far she’s managed to avoid his advances, but she knows his patience is growing thin.

With the pack in danger Ria is forced to face what Drake has been telling her all along, she just might be the strongest of the pack.

My review:
I met this author at a reader/author con.  I had never heard of her before.  She convinced me to give her book a try and I am glad I did.
I love shifter stories.  Full Circle is a wonderful debut novella.  Drake is a strong Alpha who has known for some time that his mate is the half human half wolf shifter Ria.  He has waited for her to grow up and develop a sense of self.  She has come back to the pack after college and her parents deaths.  His wolf won’t wait anymore and he has to find a way to claim her without scaring the heck out of her.
I look forward to visiting this world again.

Alpha in Disguise (Black Hills Wolves #9) by Afton Locke

Blurb:
When her mother is shot by a rancher, Lara Wolfe becomes the last Dominant of Yellowstone’s Lamar Canyon pack. Her mother’s dying wish sends her to South Dakota’s Black Hills to find her mate, but Lara would rather continue her mission—saving her pack.

When Ogden Woods, lumber supplier for the Tao pack, offers the newcomer a place to stay, an explosive attraction reveals they’re mates. Afraid of unleashing his inner Dominant and a secret that could get him exiled, he’ll do anything to avoid mating.

Although he begs Lara to stay in Los Lobos where she’ll be safe, she can’t turn her back on her pack. As her mate, Ogden is bound to protect her, but following her means risking his home and his very life. Are they willing to pay the price?

My review:
Not my favorite of the series as I wasn’t a big fan of the hero nor the heroine.  I got their reasons for what they did and why but it just didn’t do it for me.  That’s not to say this is a bad story because it isn’t bad it just didn’t do it for me.
Ogden Woods, lumber supplier for the Tao pack, is playingOmega to hide secrets from his past.  Lara Wolfe is playing with fire to avenge the wolves killed from her pack.  Neither is happy about finding their mate.
