Bear Naked (Midnight Liaisons #3.5) by Jessica Sims

Blurb:
Nikolina Aasen’s lived a lonely life as a single were-bear female with no compatible mate in their small clan. But when she shows signs of going into heat, her clan decides they need to pick a man who can sire her child.

Nikolina has other ideas, though. She’s thinking of someone tall, dark and handsome…who disappeared sixteen years ago.

Leif Ludvik left the bear clans behind to go totally, completely wild and bury his grief. He’s been hiding out in bear-form for so long that he hardly remembers who – and what – he is. When Nikolina finds him, she’s determined to make the sexy beast her mate no matter the cost…

But will seducing Leif get her the family she's always wanted...or destroy both of their lives?

My review:
This is a short sweet PNR that takes place in the world of Jessica Sims Midnight Liaisons but has nothing to do with the dating service. It can be read as a standalone .  Bear shifters aren’t like the other clans.  They are ruled with an iron paw by the council of elders.  The plans they are making for Nikolina fit into the category of “Oh Hell NO!” so despite being a “good girl” she takes off to find a better solution.  When she finds Leif hiding away on a lonely island she isn’t prepared for the way he makes her feel.  And when the council disapproves of her solution she will need to choose between the life she has always known or the werebear she has come to love.  Fans will love this short interlude while waiting for the next full length book to come out.

Fashionably Dead Down Under (Hot Damned #2) by Robyn Peterman

Blurb:

Welcome to Hell.
Literally.
The Hell where the Prince of Darkness is hotter than Hades, Hell Hounds smell like brownies and the Seven Deadly Sins are addicted to Facebook... Not to mention the soundtrack in the Underworld is Journey. For real.

I should have known no good could come from offing my parents in the space of twenty minutes no matter how psychotic and evil they were…

Now I find out my family tree includes almost every deity and mythological being alive while Ethan, the one and only love of my undead life has a limited time down under before he turns to dust. In the land of Sin, you’d think I’d get some nookie time with my man, but no. Baby Demons, cousins and grandparents put the kibosh on that. Blue balls are the new normal. What the hell does a half-Vampyre Half-Demon have to do to catch a break?

Apparently find a freakin’ sword, calm Mother Nature’s unmedicated mood swings and make sure Mister Rogers keeps his sticky fingers to himself during weekly poker with the Devil.

And I have three days to do it.

By all that’s unholy, I thought Ethan’s Vampyre family was crazy…Trust me, they have nothing on the Demons.

My review:

Laugh out loud funny!  Our heroine grew up thinking she was human.  She was turned into a vampyre found out she was ½ demon and met her vampyre prince mate in the first book, Fashionably Dead (Hot Damned #1).  She has been dragged down to hell and her Uncle Satan wants her to meet the family and solve a mystery.  This is a fast paced, funny, irreverent, sexy read.  I impatiently await the next installment.

Between the Sheets (Boys of Bishop #3) by Molly O'Keefe

Blurb:
After years of running, Wyatt Svenson has now parked himself in Bishop, Arkansas, trying to do the right thing and parent a son he didn’t even know he had until recently. Over six feet tall and packed with muscles and power, Ty likes to get his hands dirty, fixing his motorcycle at night and keeping his mind away from the mistakes he’s made. Then his pretty neighbor shows up on his driveway, doesn’t bother to introduce herself, and complains about the noise. First impression? She should loosen up. Funny that she turns out to be his son’s elementary school art teacher—and the only one willing to help his troubled boy. Ty needs her. In more ways than one.

Though Shelby Monroe is safe in her structured life, she is drawn to Ty’s bad-boy edge and rugged sexuality. What if she just lets it all go: her worries about her mother, her fear of heartbreak, and her tight self control? What if she grabs Ty and takes a ride on the wild side? “What if” becomes reality—intense, exhilarating . . . and addictive. But Ty wants more than a secret affair. He wants it all with Shelby. But will she take a chance and open her heart? Ty is determined to convince Shelby to take the biggest risk of her life: on him.

My review:
Break out the tissues.  This is an emotionally tough read.  Shelby & Ty have each made poor decisions in the past and they are now dictating their future.  Ty is trying to be a dad to his 11yo son. A son he didn’t even know about till a couple of months ago.  Shelby has issues and is also dealing with a mother suffering from Alzheimer’s.  Ty and Shelby start out using each other as an escape valve from their problems.  When feelings enter the picture it gets downright harsh.  This book is a roller coaster that will have you laughing, crying and sighing.  I’ll admit there were times I didn’t know if I could stand it anymore but then I’d read on in hopes for a happy ending.

Magic Breaks (Kate Daniels #7) by Ilona Andrews

Blurb:
No matter how much the paranormal politics of Atlanta change, one thing always remains the same: if there’s trouble, Kate Daniels will be in the middle of it…

As the mate of the Beast Lord, Curran, former mercenary Kate Daniels has more responsibilities than it seems possible to juggle. Not only is she still struggling to keep her investigative business afloat, she must now deal with the affairs of the pack, including preparing her people for attack from Roland, a cruel ancient being with god-like powers. Since Kate’s connection to Roland has come out into the open, no one is safe—especially those closest to Kate.

As Roland’s long shadow looms ever nearer, Kate is called to attend the Conclave, a gathering of the leaders from the various supernatural factions in Atlanta. When one of the Masters of the Dead is found murdered there, apparently at the hands of a shapeshifter, Kate is given only twenty-four hours to hunt down the killer. And this time, if she fails, she’ll find herself embroiled in a war which could destroy everything she holds dear…

My review:
Get ready for another rip-roaring, action packed roller coaster ride through Ilona Andrews incredible world of Kate Daniels. Curran is called out of town and Kate is called in as Consort to solve a murder and prevent a war between the People and the Pack.  Kate is going to need more than Magic and a good sword to get out of this mess.
This book starts with a note from the author/s saying that this book wraps up one arc and starts another it is not the end, thank goodness as I am a total fan of this series.  There is also a short story featuring Julie at the end.

Fashionably Dead (Hot Damned #1) by Robyn Peterman

Blurb:
Vampyres don't exist. They absolutely do not exist. At least I didn't think they did 'til I tried to quit smoking and ended up Undead. Who in the hell did I screw over in a former life that my getting healthy equates with dead? Now I'm a Vampyre. Yes, we exist whether we want to or not. However, I have to admit, the perks aren't bad. My girls no longer jiggle, my ass is higher than a kite and the latest Prada keeps finding its way to my wardrobe. On the downside, I'm stuck with an obscenely profane Guardian Angel who looks like Oprah and a Fairy Fighting Coach who's teaching me to annihilate like the Terminator. To complicate matters, my libido has increased to Vampyric proportions and my attraction to a hotter than Satan's underpants killer rogue Vampyre is not only dangerous . . . it's possibly deadly. For real dead. Permanent death isn't on my agenda. Avoiding him is my only option. Of course, since he thinks I'm his, it's easier said than done. Like THAT'S not enough to deal with, all the other Vampyres think I'm some sort of Chosen One. Holy Hell, if I'm in charge of saving an entire race of blood suckers, the Undead are in for one hell of a ride.

My review:
Fans of Mary Janice Davidson, Molly Harper and Dakota Cassidy are sure to love Astrid and friends.  I had downloaded this onto my friends Nook when it was being offered as a freebie.  She doesn’t normally read PNR so when she gushed about how good it was I had to check it out.  This is a fast paced, truly funny, tale of a young woman born into a truly dysfunctional family who is turned involuntarily into a vampire when seeking help for her smoking addiction.  Rather an extreme cure.  But she is getting by with the help of some goofy friends and an extremely hunky prince of the undead.

Getting Worked Up (Sapphire Falls #2) by Erin Nicholas

Blurb:
Phoebe Sherwood is in love with the perfect man. Well, except for the fact that he’s in love with someone else. But Phoebe isn’t the type to let a little detail like that keep her from getting what she wants. And as she’s plotting how to get him back, she meets the perfect solution—Joe Spencer. The city boy is in town to retrieve his sort-of fiancĂ©—the woman who stole Phoebe’s man— and when he hears Phoebe’s plan to reclaim their respective soul mates, he’s in

Bright and sparkly. That’s Joe’s first impression of Phoebe. He’s always been attracted to sparkly things—like neon casino signs, sequined evening gowns and Porsches. In fact, his affinity for those things, and the trouble they can cause, are exactly why he’s determined to change his habits and settle down.

But if he’s going to win his girl back, he’s going to need to learn a new way of life. Country line dancing, guzzling homemade moonshine and getting rid of his custom-made suits are what it takes to fit into Sapphire Falls… and he’s got some work to do.

But Phoebe is the perfect coach.

And everything will be just fine… as long as they can keep their hands off of each other and remember which hearts they are trying to win over.

My review:
Delightful small town romance.  Although this is the second in the Sapphire Falls series it can be read stand-alone.  Welcome to Sapphire Falls, where everybody knows your name and your business.  When genius Mason fell in love with Adrianne (Getting Out of Hand - Sapphire Falls #1) he move part of his agricultural research business to Sapphire Falls bringing in new people and new business shaking up the town and its inhabitants. Phoebe’s best friend and the man she has been in love with for the past three years, Matt has taken up with one of the new folk.  Is it her fault she hasn’t said anything about loving him?  Should she have risked their lifelong friendship? Shouldn’t he have known? Now he is going to ask the new girl to marry him.  Enter charming city boy Joe.  He too works for Mason and is best friends with the new girl.  He had plans to marry her but just hadn’t gotten around to asking her.  Can Joe and Phoebe get their respective loved ones to turn to them or will they succumb to the attraction they find flaring between them?  It is definitely interesting in a small town.

Getting Out of Hand (Sapphire Falls #1) by Erin Nicholas

Blurb:
Sapphire Falls has few good memories for Mason Riley. So what’s he doing in the middle of the annual town Festival/class reunion eleven years after leaving town without a look back?

Letting the most popular girl in town—then and now—kiss up to him.

Mason has come a long way from the nerdy outcast Sapphire Falls remembers. His genius IQ has helped him make a name for himself with everyone from the World Health Organization to the White House. He’s also got the bank account to make the Mayor of Sapphire Falls herself—the girl who broke his heart in high school and the one who now wants him to donate to the town’s big building project—take notice.

He can’t wait to tell her no in person.

Adrianne Scott loves Sapphire Falls. The sleepy little town where her college roommate was elected Mayor has been the perfect place to escape the fast-paced, high stress sales job she had in Chicago. She’s happy, healthy and the new project means her dream candy shop can now become a reality. Everything is good in her quiet life. Until Mason Riley comes home.

Mason sure doesn’t look—or kiss—like a socially awkward geek. In fact, he makes Adrianne’s heart pound like nothing she’s ever experienced. Which means she needs to stay far away from him.

A great plan, until her friends inform her that Mason’s donation to the project is dependent on keeping him away from the Mayor while he’s in town.

Now all Adrianne has to do is keep Mason busy, distracted and feeling good about—and generous toward— his hometown… oh, and avoid falling for the world-saving, nerd-turned-hot-guy in the process.

My review:
Fun, sexy, sassy contemporary romance with a fantastic supporting cast.  Fans of Kristen Higgins, Jill Shalvis and Susan Mallery will love Sapphire Falls.  Sapphire Falls is a small town with big ambitions.  To make it happen they need help from some of Sapphire Falls former residents such as the brilliant and wealthy Mason Riley.  It is a case of the nerd makes good and now the high school popular kids want and need him.  Life is good.

Grace Under Pressure by Melissa Schroeder

Blurb:
Excitement, danger, and falling for the man of her dreams all have Grace Under Pressure. College professor Grace Michaels has enough on her plate with her research, her ex-fianc showing up in town, her parents parking their RV in front of her house, and her attempt to entice her sexy neighbor, new sheriff, Ren Morello, into having an affair, when someone breaks into her house and office. Ren wants nothing to do with Grace. So what if she looks like a pinup girl from the 50s or that every time shes in his vicinity, he sports a hard-on? She is a woman who would demand commitment and after his nasty divorce from his cheating ex-wife, Ren wants nothing to do with marriage. All he wants is hard fast sex. The problem is, the only woman he can picture it with is Grace. When the threats to Grace turn almost deadly, Ren finds himself in her company more often than not, and keeping his hands off her becomes impossible. But as the danger grows closer, the attraction grows deeper, and Grace must choose between protecting her heart or her life. Warning, this title contains the following: explicit sex, graphic language.

My review:
This is a re-release of Melissa Schroeder’s first book.  This is a sweet, funny, sexy contemporary romance.  Grace is a slightly clumsy college professor with a heart of gold living and working in a small Texas town. Ren Morello is the hunky new sheriff who moves in across the street.  He is recently divorced and wants to keep any and all interactions with the female set no strings.  Grace was cheated on by her ex fiancĂ© but is still the settling down kind and thus not for Ren no matter how sexy he finds her.  I adored Grace and got almost as big a kick out of the secondary characters as I did Ren & Grace.  Another winner from the pen of Melissa Schroeder.

Ready to Wed by Cindi Madsen

Blurb:
Dakota Halifax loves to be in love. In fact, as one of Las Vegas’s premier wedding planners, she’s built a whole career around romance. Which is why her own wedding has to be nothing short of perfect. And then her fiancĂ© jilts her. While she’s waiting in her wedding dress. On a cruise ship already out at sea. Once back on dry land, Dakota tries to pour her heart into her business and weekly wedding advice column, Get Ready to Wed. But how can the heartbroken celebrate others’ true love? When she reconnects with her childhood best friend, surprisingly sexy and all-grown-up casino bouncer Brendan West, Dakota wonders if maybe she can fall back in love with being in love.

But then her ex reappears, begging for another chance, and suddenly Dakota questions if she’ll ever understand love. Can someone once-burned and twice-shy ever find her way down the aisle again?

My review:
This is a delightfully fun romantic romp filled with love and laugh out loud moments.  Dakota is a sweet funny woman who believes in love and lists and color coded tabs.  Brendan was her best friend growing up until his family moved away.  Now he is back just when she needs a friend most.  This reads as a friends to lovers or a second chance romance but mostly it reads as fun.

My review:
This is a terrific anthology by some of the best authors in erotic romance I have ever read.  When the question arises as to what to read after 50 Shades of Grey this would be a great next book.  I’ve read and enjoyed several of the authors in this anthology and found some new ones.  I liked that these are full stories not short blurbs or one chapter teases.
My favorite stories from this anthology are The Scientific Method by Joey Hill, Juicy by T.J. Michaels, and Ink Reunited by Carrie Ann Ryan.  I LOVE Joey Hill’s Vampire Queen series and though this story takes place in that world with characters we’ve met and wanted to know more about this story can be read stand-alone. Juicy by T.J. Michaels is the first in what looks to be an incredible new series.  I really liked the characters in this story and I think any woman who has gone through a nasty breakup will be able to relate to this story.  Ink Reunited by Carrie Ann Ryan stars the irrepressible Sassy from her Montgomery Ink series but again can be read stand-alone.  Again, some truly fun characters.
It is always fun to read something by Opal Carew, Marie Harte and Sasha White. They didn’t disappoint this time either.  I’d not read anything by the team of Emily Ryan-Davis & Jennifer Leeland or by Portia Da Costa but you can bet I will be looking for their work now.
Although I didn’t really dislike any of the stories from this anthology No Limits by Kate Pearce pushed my comfort zone as did Remastered by Madelynne Ellis.  But that is the terrific thing about an anthology like this it helps you to find what you do and don’t like.

Blood Red (Elemental Masters #10) by Mercedes Lackey

Blurb:
Rosamund is an Earth Master in the Schwarzwald, the ancient Black Forest of Germany. Since the age of ten, she has lived with her teacher, the Hunt Master and Earth Magician of the Schwarzwald Foresters, a man she calls “Papa.” Her adoptive Papa rescued her after her original Earth Master teacher, an old woman who lived alone in a small cottage in the forest, was brutally murdered by werewolves. Rosa herself barely escaped, and this terrifying incident molded the course of her future.

For like her fellow Earth Masters of the Schwarzwald Lodge, Rosa is not a healer. Instead, her talents lead her on the more violent path of protection and defense— “cleansing” the Earth and protecting its gentle fae creatures from those evil beings who seek to do them harm.

And so Rosa becomes the first woman Hunt Master and the scourge of evil creatures, with a deadly specialty in werewolves and all shapeshifters.

While visiting with a Fire Master—a friend of her mentor from the Schwarzwald Lodge— Rosa meets a pair of Elemental Magicians from Hungary who have come looking for help. They suspect that there is a dark power responsible for a string of murders happening in the remote countryside of Transylvania, but they have no proof. Rosa agrees to help them, but there is a catch: one of the two men asking for aid is a hereditary werewolf.

Rosa has been taught that there are three kinds of werewolves. There are those, like the one that had murdered her teacher, who transform themselves by use of dark magic, and also those who have been infected by the bite of these magical werewolves—these poor victims have no control over their transformative powers. Yet, there is a third kind: those who have been born with the ability to transform at will. Some insist that certain of these hereditary werewolves are benign. But Rosa has never encountered a benign werewolf!

Can she trust this Hungarian werewolf? Or is the Hunter destined to become the Hunted?

My review:
Mercedes Lackey is one of my all-time favorite authors.  She is incredibly prolific and has a fantastic gift for storytelling.  Blood Red is the latest in Ms. Lackey’s Elemental Masters series.  These are all stand-alone books connected only by the world they live in and rules of that world.  Ms. Lackey has written her version of a fairy tale in Firebird (Fairy Tales, #1) , The Black Swan (Fairy Tales, #2)  and her Five Hundred Kingdoms series now she writes her twist on the Little Red Riding Hood tale and sets it in the world of her Elemental Masters.  Where the earlier books in this series had a bit of romance in them it is rather lacking in this book.  There is some flirting and a hint of perhaps a future but if you are reading this for romance. Don’t.  If you are reading this for a damn good story by all means you won’t be disappointed.

Come Back (The Come Series #1) by Tilly Greene

.

Blurb:
Cassie Johnston needs to move on from a bad break-up. To start, she
gets a new hairstyle and leaves the hospital scrubs behind for a research
lab coat. Exhausted and yet excited about the new challenges, she’s
unprepared to handle it when her heartbreaker walks back in to her life.

Mikhail Ivanovich tried to do the right thing for the woman he loves, but
he’s haunted by her absence. Burying himself in work hasn’t helped and
eventually he accepts life is too short not to spend it with the woman he
loves.

A heat wave blankets New York City and the two finally sit down to talk
about what happened between them. Will they reunite or are there too
many insurmountable problems standing in their way?

WARNING! There’s a sexy shape shifter living in NYC wearing a 3
piece suit that will do anything to get his woman back in his arms where
he can keep her safe and happy!

My review:
Grrrr!  Come Back is one smokin’ hot shifter story.  Imagine a tall hunky guy with white hair and blue eyes who is big in the world of finance and world politics.  Then imagine him focused on little ol’ you.  Oh my.  Cassie is the recipient of all that focus.  Much like being stalked by a tiger you might say.  Mikhail regrets leaving Cassie and will do just about anything to get her back into his arms and his life up to and including sharing the family secrets.  Will Cassie be strong enough to say yes to the man she loved and who hurt her with his leaving.
I was a little concerned at the beginning of this story that Cassie was something of a wimp.  But as the story progressed so did my esteem for Cassie.  I ended up loving her and rooting for her and Mikhail.  I look forward to becoming more intimately acquainted with the other Ivanovich brothers.

Blurb:
After ending a relationship to a cheating, domineering man, Isabelle Masters takes off in her leased Mercedes, only to be arrested for grand theft and hauled to a local police station. To her surprise, she is rescued by the most unlikely person possible, Gabriel Dare, a man she’s been attracted to for far too long. Gabe offers Isabelle freedom along with an invitation to Eden, an exclusive island resort where everything and anything is possible.

Although Gabe yearns to possess Isabelle, he knows all too well he must fight his primitive need to bind her to him, and instead help bring out the independent woman she yearns to become – or risk losing her for good.

A woman who needs to run her own life. A man who needs to exert control. Can she surrender to his erotic demands without losing her sense of self once more?

My review:
Dare to Surrender is part of the Invitation to Eden series and the Dare to Love series. This book can be read as a standalone.
Welcome to Eden, where reality is whatever you wish it to be.
This is a sweet often heartbreaking tale of two lost souls finding each other.  This is an intensely erotic tale that will have you reaching for either the tissues or the ice water.  This story sucked me in from the first page and didn’t let me go until the very end.  I’ve not read the other Dare to Love stories yet but you can be sure I shall in the very near future.  I really liked Gabe and Isabelle grew on me.  I really liked Lucy and hope we get her story soon.

Loving the Omega (Redwood Pack #7.5) by Carrie Ann Ryan

Blurb:
Maddox Jamenson almost lost his mate before he knew she existed, but his life is now exactly how he’d dreamed it. The war with the Centrals is over, and his family is healing one day at a time. Ellie is reveling in the simple perfection that is her life and family now, but that doesn’t mean she can shed the self-doubts and concerns that come with being a new mother, mate, and Redwood.
When a disturbance in their quiet life threatens to ruin everything they’ve fought for, Maddox and Ellie will have to learn not only to rely on each other more than ever, but find within themselves the power to forgive.
Author’s Note: This is a novella set after book 7 to give you a taste of Maddox and Ellie. It is best that you have already immersed yourselves in the Redwood Pack world, however even new readers will enjoy a glimpse of one of the Redwood’s favorite couples.

My review:
We got Maddox and Ellie’s story in Shattered Emotions (Redwood Pack #5).  They and the pack have been through a lot since then but things have started to settle down.  Loving the Omega is a quick look into how Maddox and Ellie are getting on now that the war is over and they have a chance to be a family.  Without spoilers all I can say that despite all of the awful things that have happened to the Redwoods this short story may have the scariest event in it yet.
I like that Carrie Anne Ryan understands that we aren’t quite ready to say goodbye yet and continues to give us these short glimpses into the lives of our favorite couples.

Naughty Bits Part IV: The Highest Bid (Naughty Bits #4) by Joey W. Hill

Blurb:
To understand her customers’ desires at her lingerie store, Naughty Bits, Madison has been exploring her own deep yearnings with the help of neighboring store owner—and oh-so-sexy Dominant—Logan. After overcoming her fears and allowing herself to truly submit, Madison is ready for her ultimate sexual adventure: an auction where she’ll be offered up to the highest bidding Master.

But when her fantasy brings her face-to-face with her true feelings for Logan, she’ll have to figure out if she’s ready to trust her heart as well as her body to him forever…

My review:
In this fourth and final installment of this serial we see that Madison and Logan have explored some more and Logan feels that it is time to give Madison the erotic fantasy she has described to him.  To make it work Madison is going to have to drop more of the walls she has built up inside of her mind and freely trust Logan. Joey W. Hill brings you into the mind and heart of her characters so that you feel what they feel and you care about them.  I suffered every moment with Madison and was grateful that Alice and the universe had brought her to Logan.  Can Madison let go of the past and embrace the future?  Find out in this sensual and erotic romance.

Rough and Tumble (Rough and Tumble #1) by Crystal Green

Blurb:

On the dusty outskirts of Vegas, there’s a down and dirty saloon where all sorts of lethally charming—and genuinely dangerous—men carouse to seduce the women who happen to venture inside on their way to and from Sin City.

After Molly Preston flees a dead-end job with a lecherous boss, she finds herself in even hotter water after one of her best friends makes the wrong bet in a poker game with a sexy bad boy drifter in a backroom of the Rough & Tumble.

The man’s name is Cash. And he offers Molly an indecent proposal—one hot night with him—that could erase her friend’s debt to him in one fell swoop. She wants to say yes, even if this electrifying man seems just as unsafe as he is tempting.

One night becomes two...then more...and soon Molly is road tripping with Cash in the desert and exploring boundaries she never knew existed. But will indulging in this kind of pleasure leave her “normal” life in the dust?

My review:
This is a bad boy/ good girl love story.  And while I enjoyed the story it took me a bit to get there.  I had problems with Molly not going off on Arden when she gets put in the position of paying off her debt.  But as Molly and Cash grew closer I started to like her more.  As Molly loosens up so does Cash but in a different way and when they come together in the end well all I can say is *le sigh*.
