Hidden Depths by Emma Holly

The fae have created a pocket between our world and theirs where magic can exist.  We were introduced to part of that pocket in Hidden Talents where we met the hunky werewolves of the Resurrection Police Dept. (Whom I hope we shall revisit sometime soon please).  In Hidden Depths we meet the were-seals of Oceana.
The king is dead long live the king.  The new King  Anso of Oceana is hit hard with the mating heat and takes his lover Ty and two guards to search for his mate.  Much to his dismay he finds her making love to her husband on the beach.  The mating heat is on him and he can’t not take her so he takes her husband too to make her kidnapping easier on her.  There is a chain reaction of chemical and physical attraction between the new king, his lover Ty, James and Olivia Forster.  It seems the mating heat affects them all. Trying to deal with it and its ramifications while trying to shore up his political standing among those who seek to use or remove the new king makes for a great read.
I don’t know how Emma Holly does it but I hope she keeps on doing it.  This is a smoking HOT read and a great story.  Warning: scorching mm, mf, & mmmf sex under the seas.

MUST LOVE VAMPIRES & One Last Bite by Heidi Betts

I was introduced to Heidi Betts through www.AuthorIsland.com .  I started reading her blog http://heidibetts.com/wipsandchains/ on a regular basis before I picked up one of her books.  I try to stop by daily to get a chuckle, Sexy Fail Saturdays don’t count.  Since then I’ve read Curse of the Dragon’s Tears (her story in the Hotter Than Hell anthology), The Bite Before ChristmasBedded Then Wed and Her Little Secret, His Hidden Heir.  I have enjoyed them all.  I just finished reading Love at First Bite and its epilog One Last Bite.  I thoroughly enjoyed them.  I laughed so hard I had to put the book up at one point.  I think my favorite quote is “I don’t think you have to worry.  I’m like a sexual camel.  I can live on that one orgasm for another ten years easy.”  This is the story of twin vampires in Vegas who find happiness with twin sisters.  The story is told in two parts.  Sebastian and Charlotte (aka Chuck) in Vampnapped and Aidan and Chloe in Married…With Fangs.  I will admit I liked Vampnapped a little better.  One Last Bite was hardly necessary but a nice follow up.  Over all a fun read and recommended.

A Werewolf In Manhattan & A Werewolf In Greenwich Village by Vicki Lewis Thompson

In preparation for the release of A Werewolf in the North Woods by Vicki Lewis Thompson I re-read A Werewolf In Manhattan and A Werewolf In Greenwich Village.
A Werewolf In Manhattan is the first book in the Wild About You series.  Emma Gavin is a bestselling author of novels about werewolves.  She gets it.  She is correct on most accounts about werewolves.  Enter Aidan Wallace, pack leaders son and security specialist.  He is tasked with finding Emma’s source.  But the kicker is she doesn’t have one.  Her imagination is just that good.  By the time Aidan discovers this he has become attracted to Emma.  Not good.  She is human and he is sort of promised to the daughter of the Chicago packs alpha.  Hi-jinks ensue.
A Werewolf In Greenwich Village is the e-book sequel to A Werewolf In Manhattan.  It lets us know what happens with Nadia the she-wolf daughter of the alpha of the Chicago pack and her deranged brother.
I enjoyed these.  This series is light fun brain candy.  I fully expect to enjoy A Werewolf in the North Woods which tells us the story of Roarke, Aidans brother.

J.D. Robb’s In Death series

I just finished New York to Dallas by J.D. Robb.  I am just going to say it flat out.  Roarke is my ideal man.  I’ve informed my husband that should Roarke ever get off the page he had best get used to me gone.  Roarke is smart, sexy, good looking, fit, has a great sense of humor and more money than god.  But what I like best is that he loves deeply, devotedly, and unconditionally.  As broken as Eve Dallas is he is there for her.  Roarke has a temper but that’s what make up sex is for right?  Who is your favorite fictional partner?

The Lear Sisters Trilogy by Julia London

Material Girl, Beauty Queen, and Miss Fortune.
Material Girl – Oldest sister Robin is a high powered V.P. at daddy’s company a job she is ill prepared for and frankly sucks at.  Meet Jake a guy from the wrong side of the tracks trying to make it as a contractor while studying architecture.
Beauty Queen – Middle sister former Miss Texas, Rebecca, is newly divorced from her childhood sweetheart with a small child who cries for his nanny.  Meet man whore Matt the lawyer with a heart.
Miss Fortune – Sweet, quirky, baby sister Rachel professional student and self-saboteur. Meet Flynn investigator for Lloyds of London.
I really liked the fact that I could relate to all three sisters.  I wasn’t sure I would because I mean “poor little rich girl” times three.  But even rich girls have daddy issues.  All three girls could be someone you’ve met.  Pushy over achiever Rachel, underestimated good looker Rebecca, and Rachel with a heart of gold who lets everyone walk over her because she never feels good enough.
Warning somehow Jake’s nephew Cole from Material Girl turns into his son in the next two books.

The Worldwalker Duology

Truthseeker and Wayfinder by C.E. Murphy.  I am a fan of C.E. Murphy’s Walker Papers series.  Not so much The Inheritors’ Cycle or Old Races so it was with some trepidation that I started and devoured these two books.  I loved it!  Take a tailor from Boston who can hear every time you lie and stick her in the middle of her own fairy tale.  It either works or it doesn’t.  Ms. Murphy made it work.

Unseen Outcast Season: Book 3 by Rachel Caine

Unseen Outcast Season: Book 3 is the third offering in this spin-off of Rachel Caine’s Weather Warden books.  This series is just as intense and quick paced as the others but I think the characters in these books are more relatable.  This is not a sit down and relax as you read series.  It is more like an action movie.  Our poor heroes go from one dire situation to another with hardly a moment to breathe.  These are so well written and Unseen is again another outstanding offering.  If you are a fan of Ms. Caine’s Weather Wardens you will love this series if you are a fan of Ms. Caine’s Morganville Vampires I think you should give this a try.

What I’ve been reading.

"What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though."  - J.D. Salinger (The Catcher in the Rye)

I have been tackling my TBR shelf but felt I needed a break so I reread Lynsay Sands Argeneau vampire series:
A Quick Bite – Lissianna’s story
Love Bites – Etienne’s story
Single White Vampire – Lucern’s story
Tall, Dark & Hungry – Bastien’s story
A Bite To Remember – Vincent’s story
Bite Me If You Can – Lucian’s story
The Accidental Vampire – Victor’s story
Vampires Are Forever – Thomas’s story
Vampire, Interrupted – Marguerite’s story
The Rogue Hunter – Garrett and Sam’s story
The Immortal Hunter – Decker Argeneau’s story
The Renegade Hunter – Nicholas and Jo’s story
Born To Bite – Armand and Eshe’s story
Bitten By Cupid – Tiny McGraw’s story
Hungry For You – Alex Willan’s story
The Reluctant Vampire – Harper Stoyan’s story
I’ve enjoyed them all but I still think Single White Vampire is my favorite if only because it has the scene at the RT convention with the cod piece.  A classic.  I think I am half in love with Tiny McGraw and hope to see more of him in the future. Ms. Sands has three more Argeneau vampire stories coming out the end of this year and beginning of next but none of them are the story I want to read.  What I want to know is when is Anders book coming?

I LOVE Nalini Singh’s work.  I await each book with great anticipation.  This weekend I read Archangels Blade by Nalini Singh.  I am going to withhold my opinion on this one until I reread it.

I am currently reading Unseen Outcast Season: Book 3 by Rachel Caine

Weekend reading

So I’ve been reading a lot this weekend.  Nothing too outstanding but I did have a spew my coffee moment in Lexi George’s story in the So I Married A Demon Slayer anthology, The Bride Wore Demon Dust.  I bought it because I am a fan of Angie Fox’s biker witches.  I’ve never read anything by Lexi George but I’ll keep an eye out now.
I’ve also read Canyon’s of Night by Jayne Castle aka Jayne Ann Krentz and Dark Taste of Rapture and Lord of The Vampires by Gena Showalter. I was not disappointed by Canyon’s of Night or Dark Taste of Rapture but Lord of The Vampires left a lot to be desired.  I will probably continue the series though as the next stories are by different authors. I will continue to follow Ms. Showalter as I’ve enjoyed most everything else she has put out.

For the dogs

Pedigree-BlogPaws-Postcard
According to Pedigree, over 4 million animals arrive in shelters every year due to abandonment, breed rescue, or other circumstances. To help shelters provide the care these animals need, they have an insanely successful campaign called: Write a Post, Help a Dog. Designed for the individual blogger, Pedigree promised to donate 20 pounds of food (one bag) for each blogger that blogs about this campaign. In 2010, 391 bloggers participated resulting in over 7,000 pounds of food donated to various shelters. YEA!!
This year, Pedigree wants to increase their goal to 10,000 pounds of food to be donated to a designated shelter. How can you help? It’s all very simple. Do what you do best—BLOG!
How you can help in 2011
Simply spread the word about Write a Post, Help a Dog 2011 and once again Pedigree will donate 20 pounds of food for each blogger’s post. Here’s all you need to include in your post:
  • The Write a Post, Help a Dog program is aimed at raising awareness and food for the more than four million dogs that wind up in shelters and breed rescues each year.
  • For each blog post mentioning the Pedigree Foundation from now until midnight ET on September 3, Pedigree will donate 20 pounds of its new dry Pedigree recipe food for dogs — its best recipe ever — to a shelter, because every dog deserves leading nutrition.
  • The Pedigree Foundation — a 501 (C)(3) nonprofit organization is committed to helping dogs by providing grants to shelters and rescues and encouraging dog adoption. This year the Foundation has already raised more than $376,570 against its goal of $1.5 million to carry out its work to fund grants that not only help shelters operate, but to further shelter innovations.
The Pedigree Foundation depends on charitable contributions from individuals to carry out its mission to help dogs find loving homes. In addition to writing a blog post, here’s how you can help:
